and I think thats why so many people were put off elise and sonelise in sonic 06. the proportions were different, they tried to mash realistic humans with sonic-styled characters and it just. didnt work

The whole “Sonelise is beastiality” claim is a distasteful joke that’s morphed into a flawed critic of their relationship in Sonic 06.

To properly address it in a post, Sonic is an anthropomorphic cartoon hedgehog. He’s rarely if ever treated like a real life animal where they lack proper human forms of communication and consent. Sonic can do both of these things.

Throughout the game of 06, Sonic reciprocates feelings for Elise and is all for a romantic relationship with her (shown in multiple cutscenes with them together, the trial of love, and when he’s resurrected with a kiss) and we even see REAL animals through soleanna such as birds and dogs. Sonic should less be seen as a hedgehog and more as what he’s meant to be- a cartoon character.

To finish this off, i’ve seen a new “joke” form from those who are against sonelise. They claim that Elise kissing sonic back to life is an example of pro-necrophillia. We’re seeing the cycle continue once more of a joke being morphed into a genuine critique because “sonelise bad”. This is obviously an homage to fairytales where the prince revives a princess via the same methods, but you’ll never hear people spout the necorphillia card at those tales.

If you dislike Sonelise simply because you don’t like the dynamic between Sonic and Elise than that’s totally fine- but please stop making up controversies in order to make Sonelise shippers look bad.

I'll give the hot take that Sonelise as a ship is fine and that generally shipping mobians with humans is okay. People who claim its "beastality" clearly don't understand that term, mobians are not the same as animals, they can talk, they can have a conscious stream of thought and they can have just as complex feelings as humans do

Honestly I'm pretty sure half the reason Sonelise gets so much hate is just the art style of Sonic 06, Elise looks like she's from final fantasy and Sonic looks like Sonic. The reason why Topaz x Rouge, Roger x Jessica Rabbit, etc are more widely accepted is though obviously one is an anthro species they're drawn in the same art style. Personally, if they went more of a Sonic Unleashed route then Elise would just look more natural next to Sonic as opposed to the uncanny valley

The only pairing I can think of that's gotten a lot of hype and has two characters in conflicting artsyled is spider noir x spider ham (I forgot what their ship name is) in which we have the cartoon pig with the angsty black and white character, however that's intentional and arguably not as exaggerated as the style clash in Sonic 06. Hell, the entire point is there are several different characters in various art styles that contrast against each other. As opposed to 06 where we're just supposed to accept that this hype realistic girl looks natural next to a cartoon hedgehog

Heya! Just found your blog, I just usually follow the #sonelise tag for new art and it recommended you and your art on my dashboard!

May I just say I'm happy someone else ships Sonelise; while not my OTP, I always thought they were stinking cute, and I dislike how much everyone gives it the shaft, mainly by hating on Elise.

There's nothing wrong with Sonelise! Like, if people can ship Shadria — which is arguably worse because of the whole sibling dynamic between them — without backlash, often just by turning Maria into a hedgehog (to remove the whole "bestiality" shtick (though it's not actually bestaility)) which really doesn't change the problem, with her very rarely just being her human self, then I sure as fudge can ship Sonelise because they actually show interest in each other and are just... stupid cute!!

So yeah! Really happy to know others ship Sonelise, and your art, my goodness, your art is SO CUTE!! ^^

Most people just don’t like her because she was shipped with sonic but like… It’s not even that weird of a ship in my opinion? I'll never get why the whole Sonamy vs. Sonally war was, and apparently is still, a thing, besides the obvious shippers being shippers. The two were never once confrontational or hostile towards each other. They got along perfectly fine, yet dumb ass ship wars would make you think they were sworn enemies. Same thing goes for things like Sonamy vs. Sonelise, etc. It's like there's some unwritten fandom rule where the more characters get along in canon, the more they somehow MUST hate each other.

I think it's common in every fandom and an effect of wanting to demonize the other to prop your own ship. Before shipping became activism and you could simply accuse ships you didn't like of being pedophilic or incestuous, the way to fight a rival ship was to paint the "rival" as the biggest monster you could imagine :\ So you have Sonally and Sonadow shipper painting Amy as a yandere bitch, Shadamy shippers painting Sonic as an abusive jerk, Sonamy shippers painting Sally as an abusive bitch...

One of the many '06 jokes ran into the ground was "how come Amy didn't flip her shit when Elise kissed Sonic and didn't attack her? huehuehue" Maybe because she understood that it was a matter of life and death? And she bonded with Elise previously? One time her personality didn't revolve around "MUST HAVE SONIC OR ELSE", and you just have to take the opportunity to shit on two female characters who became friends.

Okay but like, it’s going to sound weird to a lot of people, but to me SonElise was the first shipping with Sonic and a girl (at least with a canon interest anyway) that I actually liked.

I only remember a few before.  Those were Son///Amy, Son///ally, and Son///Mina, and for a brief while Son///Fiona (Son////iona??? fuck idk).  The way they were presented to me were less than favorable.  Son///Amy because Sonic really didn't seem interested in her and her advances could get down right violent at times, like in Sonic X.  She was also badly portrayed in Sonic Battle, utilizing self harming exercise to get Sonic’s attention.  That’s...pretty awful.  I know they tried to play it off as comedic but I found it disturbing quite frankly.   And the fandom I had to deal with pretty much sealed in place that I will never like this pairing.  Again, I love Amy.  It’s just they’ve not done a good job at representing her in a good light at times when it comes to Sonic.

Then there was Son///ally.  Which was out of the question from the get go cause for the longest time I loathed Sally.  I don’t anymore but I’m sure it’s clear to everyone that they painted her and Sonic’s relationship in a terrible light.  Use the slap scene in 134 for example.  Plus they made Sonic act horribly OOC regarding her and other girls.

Then there’s Mina.  Poor girl...  I really tried to make this one my ship for Sonic.  But really, Sonic treated her like shit.  Not on purpose or anything.  Then she had to critically injure herself to protect Sonic’s actual love interest, Sally.  And she only did it because she liked Sonic.  Not really because she cared about Sally.  So yeah, it’s pretty toxic.  I’m happy she moved on with a new guy and yet again, they make Sonic OOC and be jealous of this new dude for some reason.  Even though he refused Mina himself.

Don’t even need to go into detail of why Sonic and Fiona make a horrible couple and a lot of people would be in agreement on this.  This only happened in a cheap attempt to cause a rift in Sonic and Tails’ relationship.  Not to mention she turned on him at the drop of a hat for the overrated green Sonic copy.  Fiona’s just...an all around horrible character and horrible person.

I could give an honorable mention to Bunnie but...was that even relevant?  I think it was somehow to stick it to Sally and Antoine for whatever reason.  Was it because the wedding?  Fuck, i don’t even remember and that wasn’t even Antoine in the wedding.  The shit Archie came up with was just that.

I figured there would never be a Sonic x Female character ship presented in any canon that I would ever like.  All I really liked at the time was Sonaze just because.  But they were presented as friends which is why they’re kinda left off the topic.

But then I watched Sonic 06 cutscenes, around six years after the game came out.  I already heard plenty of horror stories about Elise.  That she was undoubtedly the “worst Sonic love interest”.  I wasn’t expecting much going into it.  Just another terrible Sonic love story.  I was more interested in just the story in general cause I never played the game and still wasn’t able to at the time of the viewing.

And I watched it and...actually...what I saw was in my opinion was the best representation of how Sonic should act if a girl likes him.  And Elise wasn’t forceful or dramatic with him either.  She was almost like Sonic himself.  Just shy and awkward.  I was shocked.  Their moments together actually touched my heart.  Nobody felt OOC in the least.  Is it absolutely perfect?  No, of course not.  But from everything else I saw with past love interests, this one by far was the most palatable.

Honestly, I think it would have been considered one of the best Sonic ships if not for one thing.  Elise is a hyper realistic human and she looks awkward against a cartoon hedgehog.  Sure people can go on about her not having a personality and that it wouldn’t matter anyway.  Which is true.  But there’s still a lot of people who would change their tune if she was Mobian.  I don’t feel this needs to happen at all, as I said countless times before.  I think she’s fine the way she is.

Which is why SonElise will always be my most favorite ship for Sonic of all time.  People warned me about it being horrible but it turned out to be one of the more genuine and non-toxic relationships for Sonic.  Disagree with me all you like but these are my genuine feelings.

Hey Topaz x Rouge shippers, can I ask you a question? How do you get past the fact that Topaz is a human and Rouge is an animal? Like, everyone criticizes Sonic and Elise cause of that same dynamic but sense Rouge and Topaz is gay it's fine? Don't get me wrong, i don't ship Sonelise or even Shadria for that matter, and queer Rouge in general is mega swag, but.... Why Topaz? A human character? I get that most of the other female Sonic characters are confirmed minors or minor coded while Rouge is 18, but I'm pretty sure Wave is probably 18 too? And my waifu for Rouge of choice, Relic the Pika, from the Reboot Archie comics seems rather young adult like to me.

Hopefully this does something but...

I’m hoping that maybe in the case of fyeahsonelise it’s the url.  And I just have to change it which I don’t mind.  But I doubt it’s the case since I’m not actually saying the word “fuck”.

Just frustrated with all of this cause, the SonElise tag gets nothing. I’m trying to just post screenshots from the game that could be considered SonElise so that maybe other people who like this unpopular ship will have something to look at, maybe gain some new followers.  But a lot of people do have their filters turned on understandably, because people upload some truly nasty shit.  ANd yeah, it’s frustrating that pictures of Sonic and Elise doing nothing remotely sexual is considered “sensitive content”.

You may not like the ship and that’s fine.  You may think it’s stupid, pointless, cringey, hard to look at because of the appearance valley, hate it because you hate Elise.  Still there’s nothing morally wrong with. It’s not abuse, it’s not pedophilia (there’s a bigger age gap between Sonic and Amy, Elise is 17 like for real look it up and Sonic is 15).   It’s not bestiality or necrophilia even though everyone likes to joke that it is but the actual truth is that it isn’t.  They are two consenting underaged teenagers not engaging in sexual activity. I’ve seen more suggestive pics between sonic and another mobian that don’t get marked.

Also, it's clear that we aren't going to agree on all everything, and it doesn't mean that I'm "misinformed or making things up".

"Certain things are objectively right or wrong" okay but there are things about sonamy that are intentionally up to interpretation and left vague.

The dynamic was made a onesided cat and mouse relationship because it was thought it would be ooc for Sonic to be in a romantic relationship.

Just how there is evidence to support sonamy, there's also evidence against it, both from the games and outside sources. Sonamy isn't always a mutual thing, it isn't always a case of Sonic being shy, sometimes he's just uncomfortable or disinterested by Amy's romantic advances. It's what I mean by it's often vague, there's official information that supports both sides.

Alot of the time you can see it as Sonic having a soft spot for Amy and appreciating her, but not being romanticly interested because it just isn't his thing, or Amy is being too pushy and he isn't comfortable. Or you could also choose to see it as something more.

And no, they aren't in a relationship. Sonic has been confirmed several times to be single by multiple people who worked on the franchise and is likely to stay that way.

Yes, he doesn't outright say no sometimes (ignoring that there HAVE been times were he straight up up said she isn't his girlfriend like in Advance 3, and told her to stop, like in the rival battle in Heroes) but he often shows his disinterest with her romantic advances through his body language. Just because he doesn't outright say it doesn't mean you can't see he isn't interested with some things. It's part of the whole dynamic, Amy's girlfriend status being "self proclaimed".

Also, if they were in a concrete relationship, I doubt we would've gotten 06, which heavily teased SonElise. Which, to be fair despite my gushing over it, you can also choose to see it either way, as mutual feelings or onesided (if you ignore the end credits that is, which makes it obvious it was hinted to be mutual feelings). And even with SonElise, while it was hinted, Sonic wasn't in a relationship with Elise either. Being in a romantic relationship isn't Sonic's thing in canon, he'll never truly commit.

And when I say obsessed, I mean more she is head over heels in love with him. And this has been shown to varying degrees in the games. Some of these portrayals HAVE been unhealthy, like in Battle were she hallucinated from trying to lose weight for Sonic, or she threatened Cream in Rush for questioning her crush on him. There have been times were here love has been more obsessive and gone too far, in multiple instances.

That was before, though. Nowadays, yes, the feelings are hinted at more, but still nothing is concrete. I'd say the feelings being hinted at in a less vague way began in Unleashed. Yes there was the trial of love in 06, but that game was more pushing towards SonElise overall.

Since Unleashed, there's been varying levels of teasing. Sometimes Sonic is just disinterested, like in Gens. Other times, more is hinted at, like in Frontiers.

Sonic is still single and not in a relationship with Amy, but feelings are hinted at occasionally because it's a popular ship. Just because he isn't in a relationship doesn't mean feelings can't be teased. It's why I consider it fanservice, because it doesn't go anywhere. It doesn't change the status quo, which is Sonic being single and him and Amy being good friends. It's moreso giving shippers food while not doing anything with the teasing.

Sega is in a good spot with sonamy right now. It teases it to please fans, but doesn't make anything official or concrete. And it's more than likely to stay that way.

And as far as my opinions on the ship go, I still don't think it would work out in the long run personally. It's clear Amy desires SOME kind of commitment from Sonic, and he just isn't for that. It isn't fair to her and will most likely leave her frusterated, as we've seen several times before when Sonic isn't up for her romantic advances.

I really do feel for Amy fans, she wasn't treated well in the 2000s. So I see why some Amy and Sonamy fans are so defensive. But at the same time, you can point things out and criticize things about Amy and SonAmy. Amy hasn't always been perfectly written. SonAmy hasn't always been perfectly written, and it wasn't always written to be a perfectly mutual thing.

You can ship what you like, but please don't try to invalidate what I'm saying by saying it's baloney. Again, we can agree to disagree on this, because it's clear our opinions differ on this and we aren't going to agree. But just because you disagree with me doesn't mean my opinion is wrong or has no basis to it, or that I'm just making things up.
