This episode received good ratings, though it wasn’t as hype as previous episodes have been. We presume this is likely due to the primary focus on Gabi and Falco over the Survey Corps/Warriors. Overall, though, the episode was solid for most respondents.

The majority of the most favored Gabi/Falco moments from the episode were in the second half, starting with Gabi’s unfortunate encounter with the horse with 29.9% of the vote. Behind that is Kaya and Gabi’s argument about why Kaya’s mom had to die with 27.5% of the vote. At 21.6%, Kaya remembering Sasha was favored and at 13.2% was Kaya taking Gabi and Falco to her old home.

Would have chosen the horse thing for my favorite moment but went with Kaya remembering Sasha instead. At this point so close to the end of the manga I'd rather focus more on moments with characters I enjoy than obsessing with a character I utterly despise having some misfortune (to put it mildly)

This pie chart was a bit more colorful than the previous one, with the largest piece going to Mikasa’s headache with her flashback to the night Eren saved her (26.2%). Behind that moment, 16.7% most enjoyed Hange confronting Floch and Co. about their involvement in leaking information about Eren, 16.1% favored seeing Hange remembering Sannes’ warning. 14.9% liked seeing Mikasa and Louise’s brief conversation in the dungeon and 13.1% liked the moment with Magath and the Warriors discussing their retaliation.

Nearly half of respondents were most touched by the moment at the end of the episode where Kaya talks about Sasha saving her and says she wishes to become a person like her. 29.6% got most emotional over seeing the flashback to the night Eren saved Mikasa, and 18.3% were most impacted by Hange remembering Sannes’ warning.

Jean doesn’t do anything in this episode really, but he sure did come dressed in, erm, a unique outfit. Overall most people were neutral or felt that he needs to up his fashion game. Although 34.3% altogether ranked on the higher end, feeling he’s a total fashion icon. We’re questioning the legitimacy of these claims or whether they were just being sarcastic for the fun of it. lol

WHO WERE YOU MORE EXCITED ABOUT TO SEE SHIRTLESS? 159 responses

Eren thirst won out on this question, with 70.4% being most excited to see his half naked body in the previous episode. Though Reiner stans came through for him in their support of his shirtless moment this week with nearly 30% of the vote (and commentary).

When asked if respondents would like an excuse to have a conversation with our chaotic bae Yelena, 40.2% said they would absolutely love a reason to talk to her. 29% aren’t sure if they would want to or not, while 16.6% were a solid “no.” 14.2% didn’t care about this question.

There was a brief moment in the manga after Gabi’s misfortune with the horse where Falco thinks to himself about how he’s not yet ready to tell Gabi about his involvement in Eren’s attack on Liberio. 35.8% had completely forgotten this was a thing at all, while 24.2% felt it would have been a nice thing to keep, although ultimately unneeded. 20.6% feel it wasn’t a big deal since he tells her later anyway, and 9.7% feel that this thought of his will come up at a later time. 

I honestly forgot about it but it would have been really cool to see his thoughts in a better way, if that makes sense.

MAPPA ALSO CUT THE BEGINNING OF PIXIS AND YELENA’S CONVERSATION WHERE HE ASKS HER ABOUT HER CELL, TO WHICH SHE RESPONDS IT WOULD HAVE A BETTER VIEW WITHOUT THE BARS. THOUGHTS? 165 responses

Though a small detail, a few lines were cut from Pixis and Yelena’s conversation as well. 42.4% feel that it was unneeded and feel ok with the cut. 23% thought it wasn’t necessary to begin with, and 20.6% had completely forgotten about this as well. A handful didn’t care or feel saddened by less Yelena content.

HOW DOES IT FEEL GETTING TO RELIVE GABI’S EARLY CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT AGAIN? 167 responses

We get to reexperience Gabi’s evolution from a perpetuator of Marleyan propaganda to someone who learns to “understand Reiner’s feelings” and see that those she was taught to hate are just like her. 25.1% of respondents feel unbothered by her initial resistance to see things any other way as they know where her arc is headed. 22.2% were never annoyed by this facet of her character to begin with and are totally enjoying the ride. 15% love her but can’t help but feel frustrated by these early moments of her development. 13.8% have always felt annoyed by her character and so their feelings remain unchanged, and 10.8% simply stated that they had forgotten just how annoyed they felt by her at all in the early portion of this arc. 

It's annoying AF but looking back/knowing what I know now makes me more empathetic to her storyline. She still annoying AF rn, though.

Back then I was just antsy to get back to the other plot lines. But I’m enjoying this a LOT more this time around.

The majority has spoken. 54.8% feel that if Gabi had been the one to encounter Eren at the hospital, her views would have mostly remained the same, as opposed to Falco who was probably a better person to put into that role narratively speaking. 24.4% don’t want to say for sure as there is no way we will ever know, and 14.3% feel that she would have had her views altered to a slight degree, but would still not have been as empathetic to Eren as Falco was.

DID KAYA TALKING ABOUT WANTING TO BE LIKE SASHA HAVE MORE EMOTIONAL IMPACT ON YOU WHEN INITIALLY READING IT IN THE MANGA, OR IN THE ANIME? 168 responses

Overall, the anime had a profound effect on the emotions of the audience. 36.9% state that they were equally impacted in both mediums, though if a side was chosen, 32.7% felt that the anime made the scene more impactful, versus only 19% who thought that Isayama nailed it better in the manga. Only 11.3% were unaffected by this scene in either medium.

PORCO AND PIECK GOT ADDED DIALOGUE IN THE ENDING SCENE, ARGUING THAT THEY MUST RETRIEVE GABI AND FALCO DUE TO THEM BEING VALUABLE WARRIOR CANDIDATES, AND THAT IT WOULD TAKE YEARS TO RETRAIN A NEW BATCH. WHAT DID YOU THINK OF THIS INCLUSION? 167 responses

MAPPA included dialogue of Porco and Pieck vouching for saving Gabi and Falco ASAP, arguing that they should get them for the sake of the warrior program and that losing their talent would be a blow, and it would take ages to train up new warrior candidates. This is most likely just their excuse to appeal to Magath while wanting to save Gabi and Falco because they care about them. 41.9% felt that their commentary added more depth to the situation and the urgency to retaliate against Paradis and get Gabi and Falco back. 28.1% were simply content to get more content of them. 18% weren’t super excited about it, just stating that it was alright, while 9.6% just felt “meh” about the addition. 

I like how they all piled on about the need to take immediate action

I want to say I enjoyed it and it added depth but thinking about it longer makes it sound like they only care about rescuing them only because their valuable warrior candidates. Like, it makes it seem like they don't actually care that much about them, even if I know that's not the case. LOL

WHICH MOMENT FROM THE PREVIEW ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO? 165 responses

The vast majority (65.5%) of manga readers are most excited to see Zackley blowing up in the anime (bye bye, poop machine!). At a distant second was seeing Eren his cell at 22.4%. Only 7.3% are looking forward to seeing Mikasa and Armin pleading with Zackley to see Eren, and Yelena and Pixis got minimal love. 

My memory is not working well, did Wit showed Zackleys poop machine or was it supposed to be shown in the next episode?

WE GOT CONFIRMATION THAT EPISODE 16 OF THIS SEASON IS GOING TO END ON CHAPTER 116. THOUGHTS? 159 responses

The plurality of respondents (42.8%) seemed a bit disappointed, but had no problem accepting this cliffhanger. 27% seemed rather displeased, but nonetheless were also understanding of MAPPA’s decision. In contrast, 10.7% looked back to the Promotional Video (which had content from up 122) and expressed their PAIN. 8.2% actually wanted the season to end on this cliffhanger, so they were rather pleased instead. We also received a lot of write-ins.

I want people to stop complaining about the trailer “lying to them”.  Also my anime only gf is going to be very frustrated with where episode 16 ends.

I thought it would end with 122 according to the preview and it would have been, IMO one of the best cliff hanger ever since all the logic of the plot turns around with revelation about Eren path shenangians. However, I think it's really fine since it allowed MAPPA to take its time to show us the story without making to much choices or compromise. It also means longer s4 part2 if there's one.

In a nearly unanimous vote, the large majority of respondents feel that the series is best wrapped up with a “part 2” of the final season over the potential for MAPPA to conclude things as a movie (or as movies). Hopefully we’ll have an answer from MAPPA on this front at the end of this run. :)

Another season or movie series works as long as they keep to the source material

I’m happy with either. 

I really really reeeeeeally hope it's not movies. I do not want movies! It would take literal years for fans outside of Japan to get a proper conclusion to the series. Last time people waited years for a season so many people stopped caring, moved on and the popularity took a huge hit it never recovered from. I'm worried that due to Demon Slayer's success they're gonna get greedy but SNK movies wouldn't even make a fraction of what Demon Slayer made. That series is a behemoth over there, it's insane. And I love SNK but Evangelion it is not, and people aren't going to wait and will lose interest. Just please, NO MOVIES!

I thought it was overall really good and funny because of the scenes where falco and gabi were just arguing,, it didn’t have much blood and all but I still really liked it!

I never noticed this in the manga, but seeing gabi constantly almost give them away and falco anxiously making up excuses felt like watching reiner and bert again 😂

Bless MAPPA for delivering on the shirtless scenes after we got robbed in Season 3. lol :p But seriously, this episode's scenery was gorgeous.

Gabi beating that guard was way more brutal in the anime, but the scene of her slapping Lisa's hand away was badly done here.

It was a bit boring, but it was needed for character development

One thing I noticed about this episode is how heavily it featured female characters being influenced by other female characters/female characters in general (Louise and Mikasa; Kaya and Sasha; Kaya and Gabi; arguably Hange depending on how you identify them) which was a nice reminder that of the fact that AOT isn't one of those shows that falls heavily in the 'one token girl' dynamic. Isayama worked to include a wide variety of female characters with very differing outlooks, which clash occasionally, without it ever being about romance. 

Like most of this season (except episodes 1 and 7 maybe), I appreciate Mappa's work but that's all. I'm sad, disappointed, and I guess it's a good thing this season will end on chapter 116. Let's hope they will have enough time to adapt Part 2 and make it legendary, because this first part is good at best. Also, I totally forgot how annoying Gabi was back then. I really like her now, but geez, she was awful this episode.

The horror of mikasa's newly resignified memory... PERFECT. i was fearing they would use wit's romanticized scene... which worked just fine in the first season BUT NOT NOW! because the whole connotation of the memory is different. ALSO! the scenery was insane!

Damn, MAPPA's killing it on the scenery this episode. I really enjoyed the animation as well as the plot and voice acting.

In spite of the animation quality I had to give it an obligatory 1 because it was a Gabi episode, and anything involving Gabi automatically decreases the overall quality of the story

Staying Tuned for a Soap Opera — Thoughts on: Stay Tuned for Danger (STFD)

Hello and welcome to a Nancy Drew meta series! 30 metas, 30 Nancy Drew Games that I’m comfortable with doing meta about. Hot takes, cold takes, and just Takes will abound, but one thing’s for sure: they’ll all be longer than I mean them to be.

Each meta will have different distinct sections: an Introduction, an exploration of the Title, an explanation of the Mystery, a run-through of the Suspects. Then, I’ll tackle some of my favorite and least favorite things about the game, and finish it off with ideas on how to improve it.

If any game requires an extra section or two, they’ll be listed in the paragraph above, along with links to previous metas.

These metas are not spoiler free, though I’ll list any games/media that they might spoil here: STFD, FIN, RAN.

The Intro:

Stay Tuned for Danger is another short game, though it owes its runtime more to the limitations of 1999 than anything else. Full of wacky, overwrought characters and hilariously over-the-top threats, puzzles, and ‘incidents’, STFD isn’t a smart game, but it’s a mildly fun one, and definitely improves as the second in a series.

STFD relies heavily on constantly rising action, meaning that things never calm down — the game escalates and escalates until it’s over, which encourages the player to finish the whole thing in as few parts as possible to get the full effect.

It does have its problems — way too many things to click on that are pointless, an obvious villain, frustrating and out-of-place puzzles, and the clunkiest interface known to man, but it saves itself from the scrap heap by embracing, rather than avoiding, its own campiness.

The Title:

Funnily enough, this title is actually straight-up ace. It’s a snappy take on soap opera clichés, and is the only game to have a four-letter abbreviation, lest we take Nancy into the world of sexually transmitted diseases.

Er…considering how Rick looks, make that further into the world of sexually transmitted diseases.

Plus, this game puts a heavy emphasis on the continually rising action of its events, so the “stay tuned” part works really, really well. A+ work here.

The Mystery:

Fresh off of the success of finding a killer in Miami, Aunt Eloise once again hears of trouble and sends Nancy Drew barking after it. This time, it’s off to New York to investigate some death threats that a soap opera star is being sent.

Hold the presses, I know.

With everyone working as hard as they can to be unhelpful, it’s up to Nancy to massively invade everyone’s privacy and discover who’s writing the threats (and making the bombs, and dropping the lights, and…) before Rick Arlen actually gets seriously hurt or killed.

Through a lot of snooping, after-hours sneaking, and clunky interrogations, Nancy manages to “figure out” the culprit when he presents himself at the end despite 90% of clues pointing to him, has to solve a puzzle in the nick of time, and treats the audience to a hilarious-looking “capture” of the culprit.

The Suspects:

Mattie Jensen is the one renting Aunt Eloise’s apartment, and the person Nancy first encounters. Not only is she the (co-) star of the show, but she’s also the only one who stuck with her original agent, Dwayne Powers. 

Her mother is too involved in her life, she moves like a plasticine doll, and is a Horrible judge of character, employing Dwayne Powers and having dated Rick Arlen, but Mattie seems genuinely concerned for Rick’s life, asking Nancy to help by snooping around, and offering her aid to the amateur detective.

Mattie’s not short on motive, having been dumped by Rick and having her career endangered by his anticipated contract-breaking in order to get into films and out of soaps, but she’s not really a “suspect” once you’re 1/3 of the way through the game.

This is one of Her Interactive’s favorite tropes — a suspect cleared early on so that Nancy can have a helper — and it shows up for the first time here. In this case, Mattie helps Nancy go undercover as a budding young actress in order to help her investigate more fully.

Rick Arlen is the other co-star of the soap opera (“Light of Our Love”), playing the male main lead. Tired of the small soap opera notoriety he has right now, Rick longs for the big screen, leading him to try to break his contract with Bill Pappas and leave the show.

Rick is a blowhard egomaniac who’s willing to flirt with any woman he sees — even the young amateur detective Nancy Drew — but that’s pretty much all the depth that he has. He dates a lot, but he’s too shallow to keep any relationship for long, either dumping them (Mattie) or being dumped (Lillian).

There might be a moment or two where you think he might be behind his threatening notes to give him an unimpeachable reason to leave…but then you remember that this is Rick Arlen, and he has No Shame, and doesn’t see anything wrong with breaking his contract.

He does send the first few notes, signing them with an anagram of his name (which somehow Her thought was brilliant enough to use twice in one game), but that’s it as far as his involvement goes — he’s not a man with a death wish; he’s an egomaniac. Pure and simple.

The only other thing about him in the game is that he ditched Dwayne for a better agent, which is treated as, like, the Height of Disloyalty. However, knowing that Dwayne is balls-to-the-wall nuts, not a great agent, and hates Rick for dating Mattie….I’d switch to a new agent as well. Sure, it’s not super kind, but it’s not at all an immoralmove to make, and it’s the best thing he could do if he wants an actual enduring career in showbiz.

Dwayne Powersis Mattie’s agent, Rick’s ex-agent, and all around bleeding psychopath with delusions of grandeur. He’s also one of the most obvious villains in the whole series (tying with…well, RAN), blames Rick for his failing business (when the truth is that he’s just not very good at it and has stopped trying at this point), and casts his Cool Alter-Ego Owen W. Spayder as his crimesona.

Dwayne isn’t diagnosably medically insane like the culprit in FIN, but he’s crazy all the same, from his Loud Speeches about hating Rick, to his skulking around the set in a hat and beard, to his ridiculous bombs and light-droppings, etc. etc.

He’s upset that he couldn’t make it as an actor himself, and resigned himself to helping others with their natural talents. Not only does he let this turn him into an attempted murderer, but he also gives this Huge Speech at the end…which lets us see, yeah, he wouldn’t have made it as an actor (and as if RAN needed to reinforce that point, it does anyway).

Dwayne is interesting in that he’s the only suspect to escape twice and the only villain to be the villain in two games, but…quite frankly, he’s not interesting enough to deserve those distinguishing characteristics. Dwayne isn’t enough to carry one game, let alone two, and it shows.

Lillian Weiss is the snappish, cold director of “Light of Our Love”, who is suspicious of everyone and has the clout of being one of the only characters who can fire Nancy without it resulting in a second chance.

She also happens to be the smartest and most likable character in the game (except for Bill Pappas, of course), willing to accept when she’s been wrong and call Nancy to come back in, who figures out who’s pulling these “pranks” around the set, and poured a pitcher of water on Rick’s head while dumping him. 

She also sent him poisoned chocolates which, knowing the guy, I fully condone. She gets to live out Rick’s dream by going to Hollywood, so that’s nice and karmic as well.

Lillian isn’t ever really nice to you, nor does she lose her snappiness, but she is a good guy, and she’s allowed to be smart and capable without being warm and fuzzy, and I personally think that makes her more multi-faceted than most early ND characters were allowed to be.

Millie Strathorn is the elderly owner and founder of WWB and prop master for “Light of Our Love”. She’s also not quite sane, mixing fantasy and reality at any given moment.

Her “motivation” is that she hates Rick and tries to keep submitting scripts to write him out of the show, and this show apparently doesn’t have a Writer (we’ve got a producer, director, and two stars + talent agent, but no writer?), but her scripts keep being rejected anyway. 

Probably because, once again, she mixes fantasy and reality, and definitely wrote a scene where Rick Arlen and “Rory Danner” face off and mud-wrestle, stabbing each other in the face.

Either that or a ménage àtrois between Rick, Rory, and Yuri (Rory’s “evil twin” in the show”. Which would be Very Tricky to shoot with 1999 technology.

Anyway, Millie makes you solve a few middling riddles and then pretty much effs off for the rest of the game, making her a crazy memorable (not to mention straight-up crazy) character despite her lack of screen time (and overall pointlessness).

William Pappas is the never-seen yet always entertaining producer of “Light of Our Love”, who is super pissed about Rick trying to break his contract is “Light of Our Love” and says that he’ll kill Rick before he let him walk out on him. This threat, of course, is just Bill venting, and after Nancy defuses the bomb in Rick’s dressing room, Bill is more than happy to help her out.

As a suspect, Bill sucks, wholly and completely — to the point where he’s just not a suspect. As a character, however, he is a Delight and a Treasure, bursting with pointless personality. I aspire to be Bill Pappas.

Ralph Guardino is the twice-seen security guard at WWB who gives you access to the building, then promptly effs off until he appears to arrest Dwayne at the end. And yes, his name is just “Guard” with “-ino” added at the end. I guess Her used up all their imagination on weird and wonderful pictures to photoshop their characters into.

Ralph, like Bill, isn’t really a suspect at all; he exists because the story needed a job done, so they created a character to do it. He’s also Bill’s cousin, so there’s some added “meaning” that’s actually pointless as well. There’s nothing offensive about Ralph, per se, but there’s nothing good about him either. He’s just kind of…there.

The Favorites:

The general soapy tone of this game makes it fun, and Dwayne’s villain reveal/speech is only matched in its dramatic campiness by…well, his speech in RAN.

Bill Pappas is my Hero and I wish he’d gotten more screen time (though I love that we never see him), and Nancy’s delivery of “Prop Master of DEATH” alone is worth the price of admission.

The Un-Favorites:

First off, the fact that they forgot to put in the desk key really bothers me. I know that the only stuff in there are fake fan letters to Rick from Mattie, encouraging him to stay (which doesn’t point to guilt at all, and so is pretty pointless), but like…it’s locked. It must be important.

I know Her Interactive wanted to advertise their 100+ “close up shots”, but it drags the game down to look at everything — especially since hidden in those 100+ are 5-10 that are Super Tiny and that you have to click on, even if they don’t tell you anything new, or you’ll get stuck and be unable to progress.

Nancy’s inability to see Dwayne as the villain even when it’s patently obvious is a pretty serious knock against this game. Neither Bill nor Ralph are considered actual suspects, Mattie is cleared early on, Lillian is too snappish with you (too obvious, to Her Interactive’s way of thinking) to be it, and Millie is too old to do the physical stuff (and, with her wanting Rick’s character killed off, is also too obvious) and so as early as 1/3 into the game you’re left with Dwayne and Rick. As Rick needs himself to live so he can go on to Star in Movies, you’re just left with Dwayne, who all the clues point to anyway.

The Fix:

Fixing STFD would require totally re-coding it to fix sound and playability issues on newer computers, updating the graphics, fixing characters so that they don’t look like blow-up dolls…all those Quality of Life improvements are super important and vital to a fix.

But fixing it would also require some re-writing. I realize that Millie is in the game as a nod to the original writer of Nancy Drew, and it’s…well, definitely an homage, if not a good homage, but taking her out would go a long way to streamlining the game.

There are simply too many culprits for Her Interactive’s general ability to write multiple fleshed-out characters who are all plausible suspects (especially with Nik being gone), and so the result is that the incidents, character traits, and character appearances are spread too thin for anything but blatant caricature. Millie is simply the easiest character to remove, along with Bill Pappas and Ralph (who only appears twice anyway).

You could fold Millie into Lillian without too much trouble, get rid of Bill (though it breaks my heart to say it), have Ralph’s name appear early but have him only appear at the end to arrest Dwayne, and it would lighten the load that the story breaks under considerably. I don’t think this would make it an A+ story, but it would at least be less cluttered, and STFD is cluttered enough without needing extra help.

A week had passed since you met Sebastian, Chris, and Bee. Bee was an absolute delight and you and her were becoming best friends quickly as you texted each day about the trials of being actresses. You sent funny snaps back and forth about being in hair and makeup, staying up late to learn lines, the typical actress life.

You were now at an interview for Jimmy Kimmel live. One, for promoting the movie you just started directing, second, to announce that you had been chosen for the newest Marvel movie. Just as you emerged from the dressing room to await for your announcement, you ran into Sebastian.

“Oh, my god, hi,” you greeted happily.

“Y/N, wow, what are you doing here?”

“Interview. You?”

“Same. Wow. You look...great,” he said, gesturing to your cocktail dark blue dress.

“Thank you, as do you.”

“Hey, about the other night, I’m sorry I was so...well, god damn goofy acting. I had a little to drink before the premiere and--”

You smiled sweetly and put a hand on his.

“Sebastian, it’s fine. I was just giving you a hard time because I thought you were interested,” you informed kindly.

“Oh, haha, well now I don’t feel as big of a jackass.”

“You’re not,” you assured. “You were sweet.”

“Well thank you, it was so nice to finally meet you, I’m a huge fan of your work.”

“Really? Thank you, that means a lot coming from you,” you commented.

“Yeah?”

“And here she is, star of Budding Rose, Ms. Y/F/N!” Jimmy introduced.

“Oh, there’s my cue. See you out there,” you said with a wink. With that, you came out, waving both hands and blowing kisses. You kissed Jimmy’s cheek and he yours and you went and sat down as you began to talk about your new movie you were directing.

“And so I hear this isn’t exactly a rom com,” Jimmy noted.

“Haha, no, not at all. It will be sweet for about ten minutes then after that, it’s going to focus more on loss and grief.”

“Wow, that’s some heavy stuff. Why that route?”

“I just think we don’t have a lot of films that don’t show that side of life. We don’t get to see the suffering. I think it might be because we watch movies to escape, but we also watch movies to say ‘Hey, I relate to that’.”

“Very nice, very nice. We’re looking forward to it. Now, this is just starting production, correct?”

“Yes, we just started filming a week ago and we are under the gun to find a lead male role.”

“Is that so? Why start filming without your lead then?” Jimmy wondered.

“Well we had one, but he didn’t work out, and everyone was already set. My leading lady is ready, the extras and other cast members are all set, we’ve reserved the sets and locations already so we’re going to film what we can without him.” You then turned to the audience. “So if anyone knows a willing and able actor, send him my way!” you said with a laugh. The audience joined in with yells and applause.

“Well, what about our other guest for this evening that’s going to be your new co star?” Jimmy asked.

“You mean Sebastian Stan?” you said and the audience erupted into cheering. “He’s a good option, isn’t he?” you asked, getting the fans revved up.

“Yeah, what about him?” Jimmy urged.

“It’s not a bad idea,” you admitted, holding onto your knee that was crossed over your other leg.

“So speaking of the new co-star, it might be a good time to bring him out, huh?” Jimmy asked. He gave Sebastian’s announcement and he came out, looking stunning and dashing as ever. That boyish grin and his hair styled perfectly. You stood and he shook Jimmy’s hand and then came over and kissed your cheek before you scooted out of the way to let him sit in the “hot” seat.

“So, Sebastian how are you?” Jimmy asked sweetly.

“I’m good, Jimmy, you?”

“I couldn’t be better. I have two very talented actors here tonight,” he informed and the crowd cheered in response. “Which, now both of these young talents are going to be in the new Avengers movie after Infinity War.”

An applause.

Seb turned to you and frowned ever so slightly, he was asking you a question with nothing but his eyes and you answered with a small smirk.

“Can you tell us who your character is?” Jimmy asked.

“No, not yet, unfortunately, but I hope I live up to the expectation, that’s all I can say,” you said, crossing your fingers.

“Oh, I’m sure you’ll blow everyone away,” Sebastian suddenly said and now it was your turn to be flustered.

“Oh, uh, yeah, I hope,” you stuttered.

After that, the typical interview process went on, but you and Sebastian stole a few lingering glances at each other. When the interview was done and you grabbed your things in the dressing room, Sebastian was at your door.

“Hey, you were great out there tonight,” Sebastian noted with a half smile that made your heart flutter.

“Thanks, so were you. You interview really well.”

“Thank you. Hey, I was wondering if, you...uh, if you’d like to get drinks or something?”

“Sure, yeah,” you said happily.

He lead the way to a quaint bar up the street. Once you ordered, he asked, “So, Avengers huh?”

“Yeah, I am pretty excited,” you admitted before taking a sip.

“Is that so?”

“Oh, absolutely. I’m probably the biggest fan of the franchise so to be a part of it, ugh,” you said, placing a hand over your heart. “That would be the dream. So how is it working with everyone?”

“On the Marvel cast? Man, it’s phenomenal. I think you and Scarlett and Elizabeth would get along great. Bettany is a freaking trip man, and Rudd is just straight up cool. I really don’t think I have any issue with anyone on that set. It’s like you took best friends and said, ‘Okay, go make a kickass movie’. I mean, working with them doesn’t feel like work. RDJ is laid back but professional, Chris is hilarious. I promise you, you will do just fine.”

“Oh, good, thank you. It’s always a little intimidating coming into like an already established cast, you know?”

“Yeah, I’ve encountered a clique or two, if that’s what you mean,” he agreed, a playful smile on his face before he lifted his crystal glass to his impeccable lips.

“Yeah those are the worst. You’re trying to work but they sort of keep you at arm's length, it causes the movie to suffer.”

“Tell me about it. Another thing that can cause that is the director. Have you heard of this Alan Fosburgh?” he inquired, his eyebrows knitting together then going up, his signature ‘question’ face.

“Alan? Yeah we worked together one time on this little Indie flick. He is really good about letting you sort of bring your own energy, especially on a project like this. He gives just enough direction to sort of guide it but he doesn’t control the film and I think that’s great,” you informed, your eyes half rolling as you remembered the asshole producer you were working with.

“Sounds like you have experience with that,” he commented.

You played with the stirrer in your drink. “It’s just...Okay, that project I’m directing, there’s a producer who is just...I honestly have never worked with someone that’s more of an ass.”

“Oh?”

“Yeah he’s sexist, he’s rude, he’s insinuated I can’t do my job, he claims I’m too young to know what I’m doing.”

“Wow, this guy sounds like a dick,” Sebastian commented before taking another sip. “Why don’t you fire him?”

“It’s not up to me. The production companies want him, and I’m stuck with him, he’s under contract.”

He wondered, “Who is it?”

“I don’t usually like to throw people under the bus,” you started, slightly hesitant. “But in this case, this guy deserves it. His name is Mike Harold.”

“I’ve never worked with him,” he informed before frowning and leaning forward.

“Yeah he’s done quite a bit of stuff, here and there but...He just railroads me. It’s so frustrating. I want my screenplay to get the justice it deserves but it’s hard to do that when a producer changes every one of my calls. And we’re just starting filming! I have no idea how much worse it's going to get as filming goes on!” you exclaimed. You suddenly laughed. “Sorry, I didn’t mean for this to be like a therapy session or anything, I’ve just been so involved with work I’ve sort of neglected social responsibilities and haven’t talked to anyone about this yet.”

“No, no, feel free to vent. It’s not good to keep that stuff inside.”

“You’re right,” you commented. “I don’t know. I just, God he drives me up the wall. He asks me why I’m doing everything I do. He says he’ll show me things but instead he just does stuff and doesn’t tell me why he made that change. He’s called me unoriginal, uninventive, and a whole slew of other nasty comments.”

“Jesus,” he murmured. “And are you sure there’s nothing in his contract that could constitute him being fired based on the treatment he’s giving you?”

“No, because right now he could be doing what’s considered ‘artistic assistance’ which basically means any direction or choice or decision I make, he can come behind me and change it with full discretion, regardless of the shitty comments he makes to me in the meantime.”

“That’s awful. I’m so sorry,” he offered sincerely.

“Thanks. I just wish we could find common ground. I have literally tried everything with him. Overly sweet suggestions, firm suggestions, asking questions, offering help. Like I’m trying to work every angle to find out how to work with him, and how to click but...nothing.”

“Man, that sucks. If it doesn’t get fixed, do you think the project will suffer?”

Your eyes slightly widened as your brows went up. “I--I hadn’t thought of that part, but I would think so. If we have conflicting views on how it's supposed to play out, then yeah, the film won’t flow or be cohesive. Ugh, god, I hope that doesn't happen.”

“Well, me either, but for the sake of your first screenplay and big chance at directing, I would really try to find something to work with this dude. You don’t want the film to tank because of this jackass,” he offered.

You shook your head. “You’re right but...I don’t know. I need to think of something.”

“You will. I’m sure of it,” he said, that beautiful ray of sunshine smile painted across his face.

“Thanks, Sebastian. It really helps to have a friend to talk about this sort of stuff.”

“Yeah, absolutely. Any time you need me, I’ll be there, Y/N.”

“Same to you, Sebastian, if you need anything at all, you can count on me,” you vowed, a giant grin on your face as you reached across and gripped his hand.

A strange look crossed his face as he half smiled and nodded. “Good. I’m really glad we met,” he admitted.

“Yeah, me too.”

“I’m really looking forward to working with you, even if it isn’t for another year,” he noted with a laugh.

You returned the chuckle. “Yeah, it can’t get here soon enough for me, I tell ya.”

“You really like a lot on your plate, don’t you?” he asked with an inquisitive grin.

“What makes you say that?”

“Well ever since you hit the Hollywood scene you always have movie after movie coming out and you’re directing as well as writing screenplays, not to mention all the interviews, premieres, and promo shit we have to go to.”

You shrugged and smiled. “I don’t know I just...I really want to get all I can out of my career.”

“I feel the same way,” he agreed.

“Yeah?”

“Yeah. I mean i might not be as gung-ho about it as you are but I can get taking on a lot of projects. When I’m not working I can get a bit stir-crazy.”

“Oh, you mean this is sanity for you?” you teased and he rolled his eyes with a pleasant smile.

“As a matter of fact, it is. You don’t even want to see crazy.”

In a husky voice you rasped, “Maybe I do.”

Sebastian licked his lips as he leaned forward and said, “Well maybe you can see it one day.”

“I think I’d like that,” you informed in a low voice.

The waiter came by to check on you two and shattered the sultry moment, and you two sort of repositioned in your seats, the talk fading into more shop talk and other small things you were excited about or worried about on current projects. Once you were done with your drinks and needed to call it a night, Sebastian walked you outside and hailed a taxi.

“Well this was great,” you said with a smile as he opened the door for you. “We should do this again sometime,” you said. “Maybe lunch or dinner?”

“Yeah, I would like that,” he said with that smile that could stop you in your tracks.

Neither of you said anything for a moment, you were gazing into each other’s eyes, Sebastian holding the door open for you. You knew you needed to get in, but you felt planted, rooted in your spot. An overwhelming urge to just lean forward and plant a soft, chaste kiss to his lips was taking over you. How bad would it be? How awful would it be to just reach out and take what you wanted? You always had in life, why should now be different?
