Dan is not happy. His limbs are too small, his hands too pudgy and his body too squishy. And his so-called cousins are the same, despite the fact they were all finally going to turn eighteen (again in his case!) literally the next day!

Talon is just bemused at the tiny (even smaller than the ones who usually follow it!) talons that appeared in front of it with no warning. Sure they have strange green eyes instead of yellow but they smell like Talons, have claws like talons and fangs like talons, and even sound like talons! Hm… It has even more hatchlings now!

The thing about gods is, they are formed with belief.

A god is made from belief and worship. The things that people think are true, and the things that they revere. Once a god is formed, it no longer matters how reverent the worship is - as long as it is worshiped, as long as it is believed in, as long as tribute it made to it, it will simply change to fit the worship it receives.

The type of worship, it turns out, does not matter.

The Vegetable Lamb is not made as traditional gods are. When it forms into existence, there is no religion in its name. It is made into being in a soup kitchen, and it knows of itself two things.

One: It is one of many. Though it has not known it before, it is the sort of thing that is grown, nodes upon nodes, fruit on a plant of grass roots. It comes into being with awareness of dozens of buildings across the country, and it knows each and every one of them as its body, fruit on the plant of itself. It is the sort of thing that grows and branches, and it is the sort of thing that gives - and it has given, since long before it was first awake, since long before it was first alive.

Second: It is a demon, and its nature is an antithesis to much that is holy.

It is aware, for a moment. It exists, conscious but unpolarized. And then, in one of its temples, something is given, and worship is received, and it becomes aware of one more aspect of itself.

Three: Its purpose is to give. To feed those who cannot feed themselves. So long as it is willing to do so, it will persist. If this spirit dies, it will falter, and it will fail.

It is a thing that was made for charity, and so it begins to make things which to give.

The Vegetable Lamb is a young god. It is new to the world, and its worshipers do not know it exists. It still exists, regardless.

For now, this means little. In a few years, it will mean a lot. But it has to get there, first.

You know given the shading, I feel like Cheddar Cheese is supposed to look suspicious, but I can’t tell if that’s because he’ll actually be the culprit or if it’s just a red herring

Also so they supposedly work together, but only Cheddar Cheese is a detective? Then what’s Macaroni’s job and relation to Cheddar Cheese? I suppose we’ll find out
