i'm going to direct you to this post where I explain this. and keep in mind that many of the reblogs on this post are from other gifmakers, who feel very similarly. but here is the part most relevant to this ask:

I understand that I am creating something to be seen by other people and I don’t get to control what people say or do in the tags. if you read this and think fuck that, I can do what I want, you’re right. the purpose of this post is to remind you that you can do whatever you want, but the consequence may be that the people who are creating content for your fandoms stop posting altogether because they get sick of reading everyone’s negative opinions.

but yes, if what you have to contribute is negativity, then I'd rather you not reblog my post and make your own post. gifmakers are not asking you to reblog everything, we're saying if you like something, please reblog it.

because i think what people don't understand is that if I hated a movie/show/whatever, I am not going to spend my time giffing it. It is way too much effort. It takes too long and I do not want to look at something for an hour if it's just going to make me mad. so when you reblog something, you should assume that OP is at least neutral about it unless they say otherwise or the point of the gifset is to complain. it may be true that OP is not neutral about it or doesn't care, but it's honestly just polite.

I honestly believe this is where the language is headed. There is precedent: the 2nd person pronoun "you." In Ye Olden Times, "you" was exclusively plural. "Thou" was the singular 2nd person form of address. So what happened?

Well, referring to "you" became a mark of respect, similar to the royal we. There were people one should address as plural, and others one could call "thou." But it was confusing. It was hard to tell who you could call "thou" and who you should call "you." Sound familiar?

OP's father is right. We don't need to know. "They" works for everyone. "They" is never wrong: even if the anti-wokes will object, "they" has been in singular usage for centuries already. Gendered forms of address will die out, just like the objectively more useful singular "you" did.

My elderly father started talking about how frustrating he finds “the pronouns thing” and I was like. Oh no. He had such a good stand on this, he’s been they/them-ing his cishet siblings for god’s sake! Is he regressing?? And he was talking about how difficult it is to remember, and how onerous it feels to expect strangers to keep track of it, and I’m like oh no oh no.

Then he says, “I mean, the problem isn’t the gender thing. The problem is four words: she, her, he, and him. We got rid of stewardess and turned it into flight attendant. It doesn’t matter if the flight attendant is a man or woman, so we got rid of it. We just need to get rid of those. I don’t need to know.”

“You don’t need to know… people’s gender?”

“No. I don’t care, I don’t need to know, and I don’t want to remember it.”

So we can relax. It’s just a continuation of his crusade to they/them the world. He doesn’t want to remember anyone’s gender. He’s abolishing the genders.

i personally think gifmaking should be a paid marketing strategy and gifmakers should be given special hd files through legal channels by networks in order to ensure proper promotion of their show with minimum effort on their part

This is a very hard post to write, and for days I debated on whether I should even post it or not. But I feel as though this matter is something everyone should be aware of, so that things happening in this beautiful country of mine don’t get covered by politicians trying to rewrite events in the future with elections coming.

There is a big city in Buenos Aires that is currently under water. The number of dead people found keeps increasing. There are children that have been swallowed by the strong currents and their parents are desperately trying to find them, not losing hope in a truly hopeless situation.

Bahía Blanca is under water. People are losing their homes, their businesses, their livelihoods. People are losing everything, including their lives.

It is not the first time this city is affected by weather phenomena and by the sea growing out of control. This is a tragedy that could’ve, SHOULD’VE, been prevented, but no politician is ever interested in doing anything. Even now a big part of relief efforts comes from the public, from civilians donating food, clothes, mattresses, money—and it’s still not enough. Police and army forces are rescuing civilians just as civilians are rescuing themselves and their pets.

There are many wrong things happening in this beautiful country. In Argentina. There are many truly wrong heinous things happening, and sometimes I feel like I’m going crazy because what’s happening here seems to be of little importance to the rest of the world.

Maybe that’s why I’m writing this, why I’m posting this. I want people to know what’s going on, so it doesn’t feel like the world doesn’t care.
