Note: This has several direct references to my longer story, The Vyrantium Job, but the basic knowledge you need for this to make sense is that Lucanis, Spite, Rook, Viago and Teia have an ongoing polycule arrangement that is part pleasure, part political alliance. Rook is a Grey Warden who currently works as an independent contractor for the Crows so that she can be with Lucanis.

“What’s the matter?” he smirks. “Never seen money before?” “Not like this,” she admits, pulling on the strings of the pouch and peering into it. There is something like awe in her expression. Viago frowns, wondering for a moment if she’s regretting her distant involvement in an eventual assassination, if she’s troubled by the weight of coin that’s given for murder. Maybe Lucanis was right, and she’s too soft for this world of Crows. Still, he doesn’t press her. “Wardens don’t really get paid,” she says eventually. “This is mine. I earned this.” Oh, Viago thinks. This is an entirely different kind of innocence than he had anticipated. She is not troubled by the violence, but instead, somehow, by simple capitalism.

I was looking back at the teaser pictures for OnlyOneOf's seasOn's greetings (please tell me if you have found a good source for ordering it? I have not spotted the information), and I realized something about the individual photos: they all look like they're looking at their partner out of frame:

Similar lighting, looks like the same room, Kyubin looking down towards the light source (window) where Yoojung is sitting. Yoojung's eyes are closed, but he's got his head tilted up.

Rie standing, Junji sitting, again the rooms and lighting match, it looks like their eyes are going towards where the other would be.

This is the one that made me go, oh wait, I think these are meant to be at the same moment photos. It really does look like Mill is looking up to where Nine is sitting (though Nine is of course looking towards where the camera is).

It's a fun lead in to the couple images that I'm still so enamoured with, and a nice bit of staging that they are sort of framed like they are engaging with each other.

I really do want this seasOn's greetings for the way they've done gentle, soft intimacy in these moments. (I'm also hoping that we follow last year's pattern and get a comeback announcement very soon.)
