why does nobody ever talk about how often jd says "perfecto"

So, I did a little sarcastic-y review from the salt mines for RNM 3x09. Warnings for excessive sodium content, Maribel mourning, a desire to recycle cardboard, and, of course, Malex opinions. Without further ado:

- Every time Michael smiles I forget for like 5 whole seconds how much I hate that Malex keeps me shackled to this show. Too cute that he brought Alex lunch (and probably hoped he could sneak a glimpse of him) and they're going on their first date (omg omg omg).❤❤❤❤❤

- Kyle should yell at people more. Starting with his garbage friends who left him in a barn without proper triage or jello cups while he was in a coma (why didn't they just keep him at DS if he's having appointments there anyway? Nevermind... ). Alas, he's starting his understandable rage tour with Uncle Edgelord, who, naturally, makes a dramatic statement and tries to leave. I am so glad Kyle called him on that.

- Delmanes would be cute if Greg didn't have the personality of cardboard. They've created a character who is actually only here to remind us of how special and amazing Maria is. Turns out that's not super interesting. And it's so painfully obvious that it's a pair-your-spares situation. I really wish they'd just give her Kyle, he has the patience of a saint. Anyway, Isobel's pigtails are cute af (rip my Isobel/Maria/Kyle heart - I would have taken Isobel interrupting Delmanes and Heather's post with pigtails today as signs if not for genetics).

- Anatsa and Isobel's development seems to have taken place completely off-screen, like everything else gay on this show, so I'm guessing it's gonna stick. Honestly...I guess this is controversial but Isobel and Maria have really good chemistry and a history. I know their bond is supposed to read "sibling" but it doesn't for me. And rather than waste time watching them flirt with these one-note (ah, Greg chimes in right on time with a convenient line any rando could have delivered) LIs, I'd much rather see them get closer. The whole related thing has thrown a wrench into it for me. That said, it's nice to watch a woman be encouraged to go after another woman. 🎉

- Alex the sci-fi/fantasy nerd figuring out immediately that the hallucination is his own subconscious is 100% legit. Much like Kyle not letting his uncle pull a classic tall-dark-and-broody exit, I appreciate Alex's 4th-wall break moment.

- Not Max and Liz proving that discussions about s2 drama can occur on Roswell New Mexico?! What? Must be a straight thing. Lucky them.

- Isobel is actually acting a lot like Sherlock Holmes when he's on a case, from the wardrobe to the focus, and it's hot. Also, totally believable that Isobel would be able to pull up that pod from under the ice because we know she's been training even if it didn't happen onscreen. Because she told us. Just a suggestion.

- I love the idea of Jim Valenti as a double-agent, but I don't see how Eduardo thought he could keep Kyle safe by never knowing him. It feels like there's a lot more here Eduardo isn't saying.

- It wasn't a sister-fight that Maria and Isobel had, but whatever (no one got physically shoved or brought up a horrifying memory from 100000 years ago to shove in someone's face in public - doesn't count).

- Also, why would you waste a glass by throwing it into the fireplace? Wouldn't it just explode back in your face? Man, the show is trying so hard with Maria and Greg, I want to give them some kind of romance-novel award for effort (but not success).

- Not Liz and Max showing us that it's possible to move forward by discussing your past mistakes like adults instead of pretending they didn't happen!? What? Must be a straight thing. Lucky them.

- Draw a line on the bottle? No way, Valenti, he obviously wants you to chuck that whole thing straight into the fire in a fit of passion to prove that his words had an emotional impact.

- Also, Kyle wins the prize for this episode for that speech to Uncle Edgelord. Everyone go home. When do I get a Kyle and Alex spin-off where they travel the world, defying sci-fi tropes and seducing beautiful men and women?

- Not Liz and Max talking loudly about aliens while breaking and entering! This one is actually very believable, I take it back.

- It was idiotic of Liz to trust Heath. And Echo keep having this same fight because MAX IS RIGHT BUT THE SHOW WON'T LET HIM BE. Which is so obnoxious. I would forgive Liz for almost any sin (like, idk, getting a better romantic storyline because she's straight) because she's gorgeous and smart and tough and I wanna go live with her and her mad scientist energy on a deserted island somewhere. But she's being real dumb rn.

- I love the t-shirt and if Vlambase doesn't sell one I will. But he couldn't have held up a radio and blasted some Barry White? I feel like that would have cleared everyone but Alex put of the building real fast. Also, what is time on Roswell NM? Was Alex just setting the alarm every so often for kicks? Does Eduardo really not check in on staff who are working with dangerous technology for days on end? Also, why is this entire plot happening over a single goddamn episode instead of two or more so that we can really feel Alex wasting away under the machine's influence? The reason this twist is at all surprising is also the entire plot's undoing - Alex's demeanor wasn't exactly one of a man obsessed (or an addict, tbh) in his last scene.

- Anyway, back to Rizzoli and Isles. I definitely am always super excited to hear the details of my sister's sex life. All the time. That is totally a sister thing except where it's really not. Do any of these writers actually have a sister? I feel like they must because the Michael/Max/Isobel sibling chemistry is always bang on but Maribel is just...flirty lady city. Oh, and look, the beard just showed up with coffee to cockblock - it really is R&I!

- Back to Alex's plot line, which, much like Isobel's coffee, is Express To-Go. He's become haggard and worn in the time it's taken Michael's mom to find a cute sweater in the void. Seriously, we wasted like 3 whole episodes where Alex was presumably sitting in DS twiddling his thumbs and now he's being worn down by the machine in a single episode? Why didn't this plot start back in episode 3 or 4? Like...look, I don't come on here to be an asshole. But I just really hope they're taking note of what worked this season and what didn't because HOLY PACING FIASCO BATMAN. Just because you're giving us Malex doesn't mean everything else can just be hot garbage (not the acting, Taylor's doing his best to sell this). Also, when did Alex put his leg back on? I have so many questions but they aren't the good kind, so Michael better ride in soon and save this mess.

- Regarding what Nora is saying, it's fine, it makes sense but the zero build up makes it completely ineffective. Alex is afraid he doesn't love enough - it would have been nice to see that over several episodes instead of just being told in a burst of sudden exposition but, you know. Nice straight things we can't have, I guess.

- If Michael and Alex want their relationship to "purr" they could, idk, talk through their past misunderstandings like people in relationships do. Or the show could keep throwing exposition bombs at them, idek.

- Are those empty toilet paper rolls inside the machine? I knew the CW was budget but come on...

- And we finally get the Heath connection and it's to our brand new trope-y character, Wise Old Black Man Dallas. It's surprising but only because the 4th alien didn't exist before this episode. So, good job.

Overall, not the worst episode of RNM ever. I only wondered why I watch this show maybe 3 times this episode. And Michael's enthusiasm for Alex was adorable.

Thoughts on Roswell NM: S2 Ep2

I fucking LOVED IT!!!!

Yeah can the Ortecho sisters get a fucking break? I just want them to be happy!

I loved the whole female empowerment thing with Maria and Isobel!!! Can we just discuss how cute Maria’s outfit was! But yeah although Izzy was not feeling the whole thing, I’m glad Maria was there to tell her not to be afraid. Also, that moment where Maria touched her crystal on her necklace, I’m sure she has a feeling that Izzy is pregnant. Now do I think Iz should take that damn poison to get rid of the baby, absolutely not. She might end up killing herself BUT I do think she needs to tell someone, Liz or Kyle, and maybe they could help. I feel like they would respect her decision but want her to go at it in a safer way. But I would also like more Maria/Isobel scenes, it’s an interesting dynamic that I would like to see more of. I’m excited to see how this plays out.

OMG MARIA AND MICHAEL!!!! They were perfect!!! Like I said, last episode was not it, they were both annoying me lol. I don’t like unnecessary angst or whatever that was BUT THIS EPISODE WAS 10/10! The way he comforted her about her mom cause he was going through the same thing and OMG WHEN HE TOLD ALEX HE LIKED HER AND HE LIKED BEING AROUND HER I SCREAMED!!! I loved that he told Alex how he felt. The way Michael is so open to talking to Maria and is able to just open up and admit his feeling truly fucked me up. When he was telling her how he would rather see her smiling and being happy and how he likes being around her and the way she makes him feel I- I can’t deal their fucking cuteness overload alright that was...wow that was a lot! I love them! I LOVE THEM!!!!

Oh and that girl that was talking to Kyle, Steph I think was her name, yeah she’s an alien, right? I wonder what she’ll be up to....

and as they're talking about the past back when things were good between them, the old feelings start to come back to the surface and they remember why they were great together

"sleep in your bed?" gabe interrupts.

jack flinches from how he says it but nods anyway.

gabe lets him hang in suspense for awhile even though they both already know the answer is going to be yes

SuspiciousPopsicle - 10/08/2017 Jack tries to break the awkward silence by starting in on the story Gabe told earlier--'the way i remember it was...' so and so. the stories they remind themselves of with Jack's little girl safely tucked in bed are darker and sadder and harsher than either would have told her. Jack pours himself a drink as they talk. he pours gabe one too, without asking, and they take turns pouring after that. The minutes turn hazy, blurring into one another. The kitchen is too warm, they're sitting too close, leaning heavily against each other, shoulder to shoulder, heads bent over their glasses like conspirators. Neither knows who initiated the kiss. It's slow at first, hesitant, an old habit picked up in the midst of drunkenness and shared loss. It grows heated before either fully realize what's happening, but, by then, neither wants to stop. Gabe remembers the offer of a bed. He lets his full weight press against Jack, knocking him slowly from his chair. When they fall together, they don't hit the floor, but dissolve through a cloud of nanites and land with a bounce on the cheap mattress. Shadow stepping works the alcohol right out of his system, and Gabe finds his head clear. Jack is still kissing him, however, needy sounds spilling from his throat as his hands clutch at Gabe's coat. It would be easy--so easy--to just let go, blame it on the alcohol tomorrow. The temptation is too much to resist, and Gabe bears down atop Jack, kissing him back with fervor as if this will be his last chance to regain everything he lost.

He ducks his head to bite the back of Jack's neck, sucking at his skin, leaving a string of lovebites from his hairline down the side of his neck to the crook of his shoulder.

'You never stopped being mine, Jack,' he growls against his skin. 'Not back then. Not now. Not ever.'

Chapter Seventeen: ... And New Courage.

Luna was happy.

Truly so.

Even after the little mess-up in the morning with Prompto, he was still kind enough to show her around the Citadel as Noctis went on with business.

He showed her so many things, giving her a view she never had before, one that held wonderful lights and beautiful picture-perfect scapes. He gave her a full tour, included with stories of different adventures and silly situations about everyone that lived here.

It was like looking through the eyes of innocence, the way Prompto described a world that only recently had begun to see true freedom and peace.

It gave Luna a warm feeling, one that she just knew Noctis must have had.

And they had become fast friends, each of them enjoying the company of another who knew Noctis.

After the tour, with the sun still having a bit of sky to travel through, they had went to the garden, Prompto showing off all the different angles for capturing the flowers’ beauty when she brought it up.

“Prompto?”

He stopped mid-rant, crouching in front of a bed of daisies, glancing up from his camera to give her a smile that seemed to be forever filled with sunshine.

“Yes Lady Lunafreya?”

She smiled back.

“Ah, Luna is just fine Prompto.”

He laughed, rubbing the back of his head for a second before trying again.

“Ah, then what can I do for ya Luna?”

She nodded, coming down to crouch next to him and looking at the daisies for a second. Prompto gave her a look but went back to taking pictures.

Luna waited, hearing the shutter go off.

“I was just wondering how it feels to be in love?”

She heard the camera fall, knew that they were both lucky the thing had a strap around Prompto’s arm, and saw it swing uselessly in the air. She looked up and couldn’t help but laugh.

Prompto’s face was red, red enough that his freckles seemed to be ready to pop off any second. He was staring hard at the daisies, like they were going to give him an answer and his mouth opened and closed as he tried to dredge one up.

How cute.

“Ah, uh… I, uh… wouldn’t know.”

His voice cracked, just the tiniest bit, and he groaned, putting his face into his hands.

Luna left him for a moment, leaning in and smelling the daisies.

Prompto opened his fingers, looking past the shyly at her.

“Is it really that obvious?”

She smiled, looking at how the flowers seemed to be more alive, wondered if Prompto talked to them as he shot photos.

“I think it is. But I also believe that is a lovely thing.”

Prompto groaned, his fingers closing again.

“… Do you think he knows?”

Luna sighed at that, giving Prompto a look that she knew he didn’t understand.

“Oh Prompto. If only you knew.”

When they had gotten back to Noctis, he had wanted to spend time with her and they had sat around a table with tea served by Ignis and guarded by Gladio. Prompto had been dragged off by the man Nyx and Aranea, their excuse wanting to practice while being shot at.

So they were alone, talking about everything and nothing, discussing things from the notebook - Noctis has kept it, even after they had gotten out of contact for that bout of time - and about how they both had grown since that time.

They were in the subject of his father when Noctis snorted.

“Did Prompto tell you about how he and Dad met?”

And then he had shared the memory, his face melting into something soft and filled with a love that not even Luna could compete with.

He stopped, giving Luna a raised eyebrow as she smiled at him.

“What?”

She sat back and shook her head.

“Noctis, tell me. When did you realize it?”

He blinked for a second, a small smile appearing on his face, ghosting but there.

“Realize what Luna?”

She shrugged, drinking her tea and looking out. The view was good, a giant window showing off a balcony with one of the best views of Insomnia.

Luna smiled, wondering if Prompto and Noctis came out here to take photos.

Noctis gave her another look before drinking his own tea, Ignis coming to make some more.

Luna turned back, her eyes bright as she thought of Noctis showing Prompto this spot.

“I was wondering when you realized you loved Prompto.”

Noctis instantly turned and spit, his tea going onto the floor and Ignis gently putting the teapot back down.

Noct coughed for a second, his cup clattering onto its plate.

He didn’t look at Luna, his cheeks catching a nice blush as Ignis started cleaning up.

Luna just waited, feeling her smile get bigger.

“Oh jeez Luna.”

He sighed for a second, his eyes out the window before he turned back to her, his eyes bright and his cheeks flushed.

“It was a few years ago… when we were nineteen.”

Luna could just imagine the time, the year that Noctis last had to enjoy his teenage years before the future cracked down on him.

“How did you realize?”

Noct groaned, his face turning redder as he wiped a hand across it.

“It just kinda happened… I woke up and he was there and it just… clicked, I guess.”

His voice got soft at the end but Luna heard it, the sincerity and truth behind them.

She sighed, giving Noct a look.

“Then why haven’t you told him yet?”

Ignis scoffed, serving more tea to both of them. Gladio barked out a laugh from where he stood.

“Got ya there princess.”

“A fine question that even I have asked Lady Lunafreya.”

Noct blushed harder, muttering out a “shut up” to his friends before turning back to Luna.

“It isn’t only about me.”

The tone was instantly a lot more sad and serious. 

One that Noctis rarely used.

Luna frowned, seeing how Noctis’ face morphed into something decidedly not happy.

“I can’t just be going around confessing my love to anyone and I don’t want to put Prompto in a situation that has him choosing because of outside factors.”

“Noctis.”

He turned away again, his face turning into a scowl.

“And anyways, on the off chance Prompto does choose me, there is a chance we wouldn’t be accepted. Not only would that outrule a heir but also, it would the first kind of relationship in Lucis. How could I put my people, my dad, Prompto through something like that?”

“Noctis.”

He closed his eyes and shook his head, Luna getting the distinct feeling  that Noctis had gone through this train of thought for too long.

“No Luna, You don’t understand. I can’t put my feelings first in this situation. I have a responsibility to my people to lead them on! I have an obligation to Prompto to not get him sucked up into such things! You don’t know him like I do! He would be devastated if he thought for one second that he was ruining my image of King or consider himself a burde-”

Luna grabbed his face, her hands cupping his cheeks gently and and turning him to face her.

“Noctis. Listen to me. You have a heart too big; a soul too kind for the person that you are. I knew this from the moment I had met you. I highly doubted that anyone would understand and be able to deliver the happiness I knew you deserved. But you found him Noctis. And no one else has helped you. You did it all by yourself. So give yourself this one request.”

Noctis made a whine and looked at her, his eyes going wide for a second. Luna smiled at him, feeling her eyes water just a little.

“Prompto is old enough to make his own choices. As are you. The country will follow their King as long as you stand firm. So put your feelings first for a moment Noctis. You owe that to yourself.”

Noct sighed, watching Ignis and Gladio pack the Regalia, the game of tetris kinda impressive with how much crap Ignis managed to fit into the trunk.

Prompto brought another bag over, handing it to Gladio before giving Noct a look.

“And for a second, I thought you would wish something actually amazing for your twenty-second bday. A road trip Noct? Being a little spontaneous aren’t we?”

It wasn’t really that.

Noct had planned out the trip two weeks before his birthday, when Luna had urged him to confess and go through the trials of love with Prompto himself. 

His dad had given him the idea, letting him know that it would probably be his last chance before he officially took on the role of future King on his twenty-fifth birthday. 

Both Ignis and Gladio had ensured his safety on the trip, telling him that if he was going to chase after Prompto the whole time, someone had make sure he didn’t die. 

And Cor had hinted that if he was going to get Prompto to go along with it, he would probably need an excuse for it.

So he had made it his birthday wish, knowing that Prompto wouldn’t reject it, no matter how weird it was.

Noct shrugged, looking away from his friend for a moment.

“It seemed like a good enough idea. And we’ll meet up with Luna in Altissa at the end. It will be fun.”

Prompto looked at him disbelieving, one eyebrow moving up as his eyes twinkled with mischief.

“Somehow, battling daemons and tracking down rogue MT dropships is not my definition of fun dude.”

Ignis closed the trunk, sighing out triumphantly.

“Well, that is all for the preparation Your Highness. We are all good to go.”

Noctis smiled.

“Well then I guess we should get started then, huh?”

The 60-20-20 Budget Puts Needs Before Wants. Here’s How to Try It

I always thought the right budget breakdown was the tried-and-true 50-30-20 method, where 50% of my monthly take-home pay goes toward living expenses, 20% toward savings and 30% toward whatever I want.

But when I finally got a financial advisor, I was surprised to hear that his recommendation wasn’t 50-30-20 after all — it was the 60-20-20 budget.

During our first meeting, we discussed all of my finances. I explained to him that I own a home in a costly state (hello, New Jersey), commute to work in New York City, aim to save a large amount every month and have little debt.

With all of this and more in mind, his recommendation of the 60-20-20 budget made perfect sense. I immediately became a huge fan of how the money I save and spend on whatever I want is equal — each 20%. Plus, knowing I was allowed 60% of my monthly budget for my living expenses, I had a little more flexibility over my fluctuating bills like groceries and electric.

Why the 60-20-20 Budget?

In reality, you can budget your take-home pay any way you want, but the 60-20-20 budget is great place to begin.

Let’s say your monthly take-home pay is $4,000. According to the 60-20-20 budget, you should allot 60% (or $2,400) to your monthly living expenses, 20% (or $800) to savings and then 20% (another $800) to your personal wants.

My financial advisor, Northwestern Mutual insurance agent Nicholas Verard Zanoni, said this method can help you build structure into your budget and learn how to save.

“With this rule, 60% of your [take-home pay] will typically go toward your lifestyle expenses,” Zanoni said. “These are your needs — food, water, shelter and standard of living. Things like your fixed expenses. Then 20% is for your discretionary spending. This is your fun money — traveling, drinks, sporting events, concerts, eating out, etc. And the last 20% is to be saved or invested.”

It’s not much different than the 50-30-20 budget, but it puts more of a focus on fixed expenses and savings than personal wants and spending.

“This is a rule-of-thumb guideline to start out with and visualize,” Zanoni said. “Whether it’s 50/30 or 60/20, it’s really just splitting hairs in a lot of ways. Ultimately, my goal is to help coach my clients at first to spend 80% and save 20%.”

When you take a step back and look at how much of your take-home pay goes into each of these three buckets, you can better analyze your spending in order to make smarter savings decisions.

How to Get Started With the 60-20-20 Budget

If you’re ready to utilize the 60-20-20 budget, start by taking inventory of your finances. Write down every monthly expense you can think of and keep track of them in a spreadsheet. Then look at how much you’re spending through the lens of the 60-20-20 budget.

From there, consider using a financial app to help you find ways to cut back and save even more.

“People should focus on treating their savings like a bill, an obligation and not so much of an option,” Zanoni said. “Focusing on fixed expenses and saving helps identify the money that might be being spent unnecessarily or without much recognition. More often than not, most individuals are not aware of all of the things they spend money on.”

This budget could help you be more aware of your spending habits, especially when you’re doling out the dough for things you don’t really need (hi, super cute sweater from H&M) or that you’re not using (hello, monthly streaming subscriptions).

Instead of equally spending $800 on savings and $800 on your personal wants, perhaps you’d want to put $1,000 toward your savings and only spend $600 on your personal wants. That would shift the 60-20-20 budget to 60-25-15, and you’d be saving more.

“In order to reach the goals we have for ourselves, we very typically find that we need to increase savings to 25 or 30% over time to reach those goals,” Zanoni said. “People may not be able to start out at 20%, but that’s what we want to help them achieve and work toward at first. Over time, we will need to be saving more as we continue to progress in life every single year.”

Lastly, Zanoni said to keep your goals in mind and consider working with a financial advisor who can help you stay on track.

“Focusing on that budget and making sure that they work with someone to help optimize that budget for all of their goals is really the most important part,” Zanoni said.

Budgeting is all about finding ways to set yourself up for financial freedom. Starting now can really make a difference in the future.
