This was posted in May?
Have not bought pads since then.
I spent $60 on cloth pads (10 small ones, 4 overnight ones), and I use the small ones to cover for the dreaded Butt Crack Back-Sleeping Leak with the overnight ones. I'm still even going through my liners.
My usual restock purchase was one 27-count bag of overnight pads ($23) and two thin 48-count overnight pads ($11 each). So that would maybe last like... two periods, probably three, but I'd restock before I got too low. So that's ($23 + $11 + $11)/3 = $15 a period, basically. Excluding tampons, which I also haven't bought in a while, but have bought at least once since May, and excluding liters, which is the same situation (bought at least once since May).
So at $15 a period, it'd take four periods for these cloth pads to break even. And it's been at least six, maybe 5.5 since I was still shy with using them for the first two. But that means the pads are officially at the "saving me money compared to buying single-use ones" stage.
As for cleaning them, I do it two ways:
1. In the bathroom sink, rinse and squeeze until it runs clear, then throw on some soap (... unscented hand soap, sue me) to suds it up and then rinse and squeeze until it's clear again.
2. At the end, in the bathroom sink, I blast that shit with hot water and powder detergent and 'laundry soap', and let that soak while I go take a shower. At the end of the shower, while I've got my hair wrapped, I let the water out and ring these all out. Then I blast it with hot water and that powdered soap again (a teaspoon of it, basically) and swish 'em around like a washing machine. Then I wring them all out, individually fill them with hot water again, individually wring them out, and then hang them up on coat hangers to dry for a few days. Then I chuck 'em back in the drawer.
That takes fifteen, maybe twenty minutes, excluding my shower. And 70% of that is waiting for the sink to fill up.
And like.
That's it.
And from this point on, it's all money saved.
Pretty fuckin' sweeeeeet duuuuuuudeeee
Not to be gross or give TMI around menstruation...
... but the other week, I bought some random, cheap, well-rated reusable pads off of Amazon. And I've been waiting for my next period to use them, and uhhhhhh
Wow
I'm just wearing one to see how it feels, and not only is it a massive difference from the regular pads, but it's a massive difference from the period panties I was wearing too!
It's comfy. It almost feels like fleece on my snatch - super soft, and instead of a regular pad that's made out of plastic (with like a somewhat rigid shape that I've never even considered rigid until right now), it's actually hugging me! Like, it's actually neatly all up in my business in a way that makes the surface comfortable, but not in a way where the bottom 'absorby' bit is bunched up or anything. The bottom part (the part against my underwear) is like a regular level of rigidity that I'd expect from a normal pad - okay, a little less rigid - but the surface fabric is a comfy, fleecy cloth. :D
So already this is a vastly improved experience! I dunno - I wasn't expecting to get an actual kick out of just wearing one. I was only doing it to save money. I'd've been perfectly happy to have had the exact sme experience as a regular pad, but this is super nice and plush!
Next test: absorbency 🥴 Fingers crossed - I hope the period panties have given me the practice I need to trust a non-corporate pad that I've had advertised to me all my life
