I never thought the piece of art that would most perfectly capture the complicated, loving, and fraught relationship between mothers and daughters with generational trauma would be a fucking d&d campaign about stoats and nuclear power plants.
Like at it’s core this is the story of exile, filled with all the generational trauma and grief that comes with it. In just seconds, they lost everything they’ve ever known but each other. They lost their childhood homes, their community, and their way of life. All to find that the thing they were taught to respect and thought was an offer of safety, was just secrets, control, and more danger than they’ve ever known.
People joked for years that Brennan made capitalism the big bad, and then Aabria turned around and went “what if we give communism a turn?”

Part 2!
Tumblr media
The next day as Bella woke up going into the kitchen hoping to beat her family to breakfast and go to work early.
As she ate her food and left she quietly and quickly left the house. She thought things would be easy until "Morning Bella!" Said Camilo she groaned "Hi Milo."
"So where are you headed?" "To work. " "I'll join you. " "No..no there's no need." "Yes there is mama said I had to watch you to keep you safe if not she'll flood the village like she did when you where 16."
Bella left the house and never told anyone thus having Pepa flood the village 😑.
The teenage boy influenced her to sneak away that's when all hell broke loose and she never snuck out again.
"Ok ok you can come." "Great also Tia Julieta packed some of her healing meals ."
Disappointed that she couldn't use her beautiful long hair she spoke "I was actually going to use my hair milo. " He looked at her with a stern look "No don't ever use your hair on anyone else in the village..ever!"
"Ok ok jeez I'm just kidding Camilo! " She wasn't but she knew that was better then arguing with Camilo and the others.
"Ok good girl. " He pet her head as they went to work.
Lunch time
Bella walked to the stairs hoping not to see her family until Agustin saw her "Mija how was your day?" "Oh great papa." He looked at her hair as if he was examining it like he always does.
"I didn't use it papa." "She didn't use it tio." Said Camilo "Good must make sure that you are safe." He hugged her tight before walking into the kitchen.
"Antonio your shift! " Said Camilo as he went to shower as his brother walked down the stairs smiling "So..what do you want to do?"
"Nothing but rest." He shook his head as he took her to his room with his pet cheeta "Long day huh?" "Yup. " "Camilo watched you again huh?" "Yes and yes boy this family is a piece of work!" She said stuffing her face in a pillow.
"Look at this way everyone here loves you. "
"Yes I know tonio I know maybe that's the problem they love me too much."
"Lunch is ready guys!" Said mirabel
As everyone ate Bella wondered how would it be if she healed someone with her hair? Again like she use to? "Uh..we did well with the food today mama." "Oh great job mija and Camilo told me all about it I'm so proud of you! "
Oh how she wished she could be like other girls in the village..free.
Dolores saw She wasn't eating her favorite food. "Sis are you ok? You haven't touched your favorite food?" Everyone turned to see that she hasn't taken the first bite which worried them especially Julieta she got up to check her fevor.
"Oh dear are you sick?" "No mom I'm fine." "Are you sure?" "...well no actually. " Isabella got up "Who's Messing with you again I'll finish them!" "What no?! It's no one It's just that I wonder why I don't use my gift? "
"You did use your gift today you painted that beautiful picture on the wall near the river, a couple of houses-" "No Camilo I'm talking about my hair!"
She said frustrated everyone looked at her then at Mirabel "Bella you know what abuela said about using your hair-" she said calm but Bella as had enough
"No! No I don't know Mira why don't you tell me?!" "Bella-!" "No Julieta this is crazy!"
"Bella!" "Bella do not speak to your mother that way!" Said Agustin as she got up from the table "I don't know what crazy secrets your hiding but I'm so done I'm leaving!"
"No you can't! " Said Pepa thundering in fear "Why?! I'm old enough to take care of myself now! "
The cracks in the wall showed up as she walked up the stairs as Bruno was getting scared "No no no mija you..you must stay here!"
"Why tio Bruno? " "because you have to..you- before he could say anything Pepa covered his mouth "shush mama said to not speak about this and we keep our word." She whispered to her brother "I'm leaving. " I'm sorry you can't escape us my dear. " Camilo charged at her pinning her to the ground "Hold still sis."
Julieta pulled out a needle "What is that?!"
She scramed "Something that'll help you forget this..f o r e v e r." She said sticking her in her arm "Soon everything will be the way it should be."
Cliffhanger!

HELLO ANON I AM SO SORRY IT TOOK ME 12 MILLION YEARS TO WRITE THISPlease accept these 1670 words as an apology (i.e. I got really into this one for some reason lol. Thanks so much for sending me the request!!!!)
Also thank you, anon, because you got me to write the first day of @vldwhumpmas2017 without even thinking about it!
Soft holiday Klance under the cut
“I’m ho-ome!” Lance sang, kicking the door shut behind him.
“How did we even forget cranberry sauce? It’s an essentialpart of Christmas dinner! You’re lucky I realized it before tomorrow becausebasically nothing is gonna be open!”
Keith winced at the grating sound of his boyfriend’s happyvoice, but quickly smoothed his features out again, determined not to revealhow he was truly feeling and ruin his first Christmas with Lance.
Truthfully, he felt awful. Everything was sensitive. All thelights were too bright, the soft hum of Christmas music from the radio tooloud, and even the soft sweater he was wearing to contain his chills felt roughand painful against his skin.
He ignored the lightheadedness he felt as he rose to greet Lance, and the crescendo of the ever-present ache in his head as he approached thechattering man, careful to avoid kissing anywhere near his nose and mouth inorder to avoid contagion.
When Lance squeezed him in his arms he couldn’t help the grimaceof pain that caused him to flinch back and away from his boyfriend.
Lance looked mildly concerned, but brushed it off as Keith’susual moodiness. He’d never been very good at holidays. As he set about thekitchen to prepare food for the next day at Lance’s family’s house, he couldhear the faint sounds of Keith doing his own thing in the apartment.
“hh…nh-ahktch! Hih! Hah-kchtch!Exgtchew!” Keith sniffled in the aftermath of the small fit, desperatelyhoping Lance had been too busy in the kitchen to realize that Keith wassneezing.
“Salud!” Shit.
Keith only ever sneezed fittishly if he was sick, or soLance told him. When he wasn’t sick his fits were more drawn out—much differentfrom these harsh, wet outbursts that tumbled over themselves, as if his bodycouldn’t expel enough of the irritant at a time. Lance could always tell basedon his sneezes whether Keith was coming down with something, the weirdo wasbasically psychic.
It seemed like Lance hadn’t noticed yet though, thankgoodness. He wasn’t sure how long he’d be able to keep up the charade though, what with their rapidly approaching car trip to Lance’s family’s home forChristmas day. They were to get up at 3 the next morning to drive 10 hours andhopefully make it there in time for a late lunch and spend the next few days withthe family. Keith could do this. If he put his mind to it, he could make thisillness go away before the morning.
“Wonderful! I’m done with the casserole. We just have to popit in the oven when we get there tomorrow! You wanna get ready for bed, hotshot? You look beat.”
Lance smirked at the way Keith jumped in surprise, then glaredgood-naturedly at his boyfriend. “As if, you’re the one driving tomorrow, so youget to sleep tonight. I’m going to get us packed.”
“Awww but I don’t wanna sleep aloneeee! It’s gonna be cold andlonely without you next to me.” Lance pouted, giving Keith a puppy dog face.
“Sorry, Lance, but you want to have gifts to give when we’rewith your family, don’t you? I need to wrap the presents and get the rest ofour stuff together. I’ll be there when you wake up, don’t worry.”
Lance, though still pouting, seemed satisfied with Keith’sanswer, and Keith let out a small sigh of relief, which immediately caused a fitof grating coughs that he managed to swallow. He was thankful when the tallerman didn’t seem to notice, and turned to leave after only a quick peck on thetop of his head. Now, onto the issue of the evening, wrapping the presents. Hepulled out the sodden tissue he’d hidden from Lance earlier and swiped at hisnose, feeling a bit of moisture gathering there.
His shivering only increased as the night wore on, but he finallyfinished at 1:30 in the morning—the car was packed with their suitcases and thegifts, they had snacks for the road, and the coffee maker was set to make Lance’smorning coffee at the push of a button.
The sneezing had gotten worse as well, and Keith was thankfulthat Lance wore headphones to bed, because he could barely muffle the fitsanymore.
“Hehh…uhh…hih! Hah! AxchSHhh!HhKshh! Hkshew!”
He winced as the last one refused to allow itself to be stifled, ripping through his throat painfully on its way out as a punishment for theharsh treatment of its brethren.
He flopped onto the couch, pulling the small throw blanketthey had resting there over himself in an attempt to ease some of hisshivering. He could still get an hour or so of sleep if he could just…
“Hh-Heh’GkSHU!”
Stop the itch in his nose…That one snuck up on him, and he absentlyswiped up the mess with another destroyed tissue. He’d only used a few, findingdryish spots to pinch-wipe his nose with since he couldn’t exactly use an entirebox of tissues or Lance would notice both the absence of tissues in the box andthe significant increase of used tissues in the trash. He noticed that kind ofstuff unfortunately. Someone could light a small fire in the garbage can andKeith probably wouldn’t notice. He might notice a burning smell, but he wouldn’tcare enough to investigate. Lance was just more perceptive, which was why Keithneeded to be so careful. He achingly got up and threw the tissue away, decidinga fresh one wouldn’t be the end of the world, and rearranged the contents ofthe trash to hide it. It was gross, but it got the job done.
He dragged himself back to the couch, doing his best tocover himself with the blanket again, ignoring the small shivers he feltprickling their way through his skin again, and he soon fell into a restlesssleep.
He woke up feeling so much worsethan before. Everything ached and he was shivering like mad, terrible pricklesof fever shot up his nerves in his arms, causing him to groan a little. Thatwas when he noticed Lance.
Quick Lance POV because screw it
Lance had awoken feeling sleepybut excited for the day to come. He was a bit disappointed that Keith hadn’tjoined him in bed like he’d said he would, but kind of relieved because themovement definitely would have woken him up and he had a long day of drivingahead of him.
He trudged past the living room tomake his coffee, delighted to find that Keith had prepared it for him already. Hehit the button and shoved his travel mug underneath the machine, groggilywatching the steaming caffeine fill his cup. As he took his first warming sip, itoccurred to him that he should wake Keith so he could get dressed as well. Ashe moved towards the sleeping man, still cradling his mug, he noticed howuncomfortable Keith looked. He was flushed and shivering, the throw blanket tangledaround his legs and his face was contorted in pain. Lance slowly approachedhim, knowing how light of a sleeper the other man could be, and touched hisforehead lightly, tsking at the dry heat he felt. They wouldn’t be making it tothe McClain family celebration of Christmas today.
“Sí mamá… Él está enfermo… Tiene fiebre, sí…No… ¡No he dado nada a ello parala fiebre porque estaba durmiendo! Okay okay. Voy a-oh crap. Está despiertoahora…Te amo también. Voy a llamarte después de que he cuidado a mi novio.”
Keith blinked slowly in confusionat Lance’s rapid Spanish. Why weren’t they on the road? He sat up, attemptingto stand, only to be pushed down by Lance’s soft hands.
“Wh-what-” he cut himself off, coughing deeply into his arm, tears pooling in his eyes. He’d ruined Christmas.
Lance noticed the guilt in Keith’seyes and rushed to console him, “Keith, baby, it’s okay. We are going to havesuch a wonderful time here! I’ll take care of you here and we will go to myfamily’s house later in the week!”
“B-but… Hh… you said your abuela was only there for a-ihh few days. You’re dot goig to be ableto see her!” Keith wailed, or attempted to wail, his broken voice hitchingthroughout his speech, giving out on the last word and sending him into anothercoughing fit, which turned into a hitching buildup.
“Hih! Hehh-hhh…Hah-dkshCHUH! Ihkgshkk!”
He panted after the short fit, cheeksglowing with fever and embarrassment as he tried to sniffle back the congestionhe felt,
“Y-you cand just go without mbe,Lance. I don’t want you to mbiss seeig your abuela.”
Lance carefully took Keith’s facein his hands, lightening his touch when he saw the wince it caused, and forcedKeith to look at him with tear-filled eyes.
“Listen to me. I’m not leavingyou. Especially not when you’re like this, okay hon? I’m never going to leaveyou behind.”
Keith only sobbed harder, futilelyscrubbing at his eyes with his sleeve,
“What’s wrong, baby?” Lance cooed.
“I-it’s just that I d-dod’tudderstad how I g-g-got so l-lucky.” Keith rasped between sobs and light hiccuppinggasps for breath.
Lance smiled fondly, wrapping hisshivering, sniffling mess of a boyfriend in his arms, snapping out of hisreverie when he remembered the sickly heat that seemed to be coming off Keithin waves.
After making Keith take medicine,Lance carefully brought the dozing man to their shared bed, gently settling himunder the blankets and curling up next to him.
Silent night…Holy night… Lance hummed along to the radio playingsoftly in the background, feeling his heart swell with warmth when Keith smiledand snuggled closer to him. Maybe missing Christmas back home wouldn’t be theworst thing in the world. He glanced at the clock, which read 5:02 AM.
He’d call his mom back at a morereasonable hour.
Spanish!
Sí mamá… Él está enfermo… Tiene fiebre, sí…No… ¡No he dado nada a ello para la fiebre porque estaba durmiendo! Okay okay. Voy a-oh crap. Está despierto ahora…Te amo también. Voy a llamarte después de que he cuidado a mi novio.
Yes, mom. He’s sick… He has a fever, yes…no… I haven’t given him anything for the fever because he’s been sleeping! Okay okay. I’ll-oh crap. He’s awake now. I love you too. I’ll call you after I’ve taken care of my boyfriend.
