Just to preface this, it’s more about me rambling about aesthetic appeal than I am trying to say anything about the actual churches, like, as organizations.
But then I remember the Protestant church my aunt went to and I’m like 😬 that thing was Sheetrock and one stain glass window and I’m pretty sure they were more conservative.
This isn’t even a total pride thing, I sometimes feel awkward attending church because I’m not doing worship stuff, I’m literally just mad about the architecture and any interior decoration being dismissed. I’m being a sort of art nerd about it, not a church nerd.
Wait. Did tumblr delete the entire section where I rambled about churches made of boulders and gothic inspired interiors? At least the tags are still there
#emma posts#the church I went to as a kid did have cheap basement doughnuts too. besides potluck stuff#I admit the inside of the boulder church isn’t super exciting#but they have two stain glass windows and big vaulted ceilings#the kind with the sort of curved arch beams#again. I’m not even Christian anymore but I feel like the cool architecture and decor needs defending#I’ve been in enough boring church basements though#especially because that’s where my dance teacher could find a place to practice#but I refuse to call a building made of boulders boring#or the actual awesome looking interior of my mom’s childhood church#but yeah. I’ve been in a lot more boring churches than I have interesting ones#I think I went to a wedding in a replica stave church once#i don’t remember that well since I was a kid but I’ve been to that place since then#it’s like a half museum half does services of some kind on occasion setup#I have been in a lot of churches that made me think ‘this is literally just some building’#but not all were Protestant#gonna be honest. The brach of Protestantism does seem to have a correlation with which ones look boring and unwelcoming#as well as the age of the building. it seems like new churches around here aren’t even trying#again. this is me nerding about the aesthetic appeal of the buildings#I can ramble like this about schools too for example#and to an extent libraries#just public buildings#I’m reluctant to show actual pictures of the churches I’m talking about because I feel like it would reveal a lot about my location
