Ending off of S1, albeit (extremely) sad, I wasn’t expecting the S2 script to include much of Suho. The original webtoon had made it clear that Suho would be a passing memory for Sieun. It just so happens that Jihoon and Hyunwook had so much chemistry they rewrote the course of what would have been.

Then again, it’s not only because of the og webtoon characterisations that led me to believe Suho wouldn’t be mentioned a lot in S2. It’s because as much as sieun and suho clearly had a close relationship, what S1 never did was have sieun narrate his inner thoughts and emotions. Hence in fact, all of us viewers, were never privy to Sieun’s feelings apart from the incredible emotive acting on Jihoon’s part — we are never completely sure how deeply Sieun felt for Suho. Which is why I was so pleasantly surprised at how the writers made efforts for Sieun to recall Suho in every episode, and Beomseok, in frequent scenes.

Right off the bat in S2E1, we see Sieun have war flashbacks to S1 with Beomseok and Suho. Both Beomseok and Suho? Fuck yeah. We need to remember that both were close to Sieun and of course, impacted Sieun emotionally.

As the season progresses, it’s made clear that the writers prioritise featuring Suho and Beomseok, rather than have them appear in one off scenes. Beomseok always returning in flashbacks and of course, the dream sequence with Sieun in the boxing ring. We see clearer than ever now what morals and fatalistic viewpoints separate Sieun and Beomseok, even though they are both lonely souls hidden beneath everything.

We don’t even need to talk about Suho — Sieun physically and mentally cannot forget about him. Sieun continuously writes his feelings out on text messages which he then sends to Suho’s number, suffers from insomnia because of Suho, and is endlessly reminded of Suho when he fights.

It’s not easy to write a compelling “ghost that haunts the narrative” trope without it being too sappy, but god, the way WHC2 did it for both Suho and Beomseok was compelling and believable. Because of course, Sieun cannot simply forget about either of them. These two will eternally be locked into his reflexes — which the directing and script cleverly includes and remembers.

Your snack bowl had been discarded and you didn’t even remember the last time you had blinked. Your eyes were glued to the screen of your laptop like some kind of hypnosis was occurring. The small teddy bear that your boyfriend had won at an amusement park for you a month ago was clutched tightly in your arms, serving its role as emotional support quite well.

You were in awe at how thrilling the scenes of the drama were. And, though violent, it was quite beautiful the way the fight scenes were choreographed and executed. You had visited Jihoon on set a lot while he filmed, but you never could tell quite how the end result would turn out. The final released version of Weak Hero Class 1 did not disappoint, though.

You were on episode 4 already even though you had only started earlier this evening. You only took one break to get more snacks and emotional supports (your blanket and the teddy bear). The show was already pulling at your heartstrings— or maybe it was your boyfriend’s phenomenal acting. 

The episode was nearing the end and Sooho, Youngyi, and Sieun were in the hospital after the fight with Gilsoo and his gang. An adoring frown etched on your face at the sweet scene. Sieun was very different in character to Jihoon, but there were similarities you could spot and it made your heart warm.

Jihoon panicked. “Baby, what’s wrong?” He pulled you closer, holding you in his arms and scanning your body to make sure you hadn’t hurt yourself physically.

You tried to form a coherent thought to answer his question, muffling a response into his shirt, “He’s just…”

Jihoon furrowed his eyebrows, “He’s just what?”

“He’s just… so… cute.” You sobbed, hugging Jihoon tighter.

“What? Who’s cute?”

You paused, a smile slipping onto your lips as you caught a hint of jealousy in his voice. You waited until he nagged you again about who this guy you thought was cute was before you finally told him.

“You’re crying because of Sieun?” He questioned curiously.

“He smiled, Jihoon.” You told him again, this time with even more emotion.

“I know. I acted out that scene.” Jihoon said helplessly. You weren’t crying anymore and his earlier panic had subsided, but instead he was left confused as to why that particular scene had left you in such a state.

“I wanna hug him.” You frowned, replaying the scene again.

Jihoon stayed silent at your comment, not bothering to bring up the fact that you kinda were hugging Sieun right now, since Jihoon was Sieun. But he just smiled and pulled you a little closer to his chest.

“Baby.” He mumbled softly.

“Hm?”

“Am I your favourite actor?” 

You sat up slightly, pulling away so you could actually look at your boyfriend’s face. “No, I think I like Hyunwook more.” You deadpanned.

Jihoon frowned, “But you were even crying over me. You haven’t cried over Hyunwook.”

“Who says I haven’t?”

Jihoon whined in protest at your teasing and you giggled and snuggled closer to him again.

“Isn’t it a bit too violent for you to be watching, though?” He whispered.

OH BOY…. my first thoughts after finishing season 2, all i can even think about right now is suho. the whole season i felt his presence there especially with how sieun never let go and always showed up.

after him being in a coma for over a year i truly wasn’t expecting anything (especially since it looked like they used a double for all the hospital shots) (and i thought the beomseok cameo was all we were getting)

let me just say… when sieun started running after the phone call i knew. and i started crying immediately. i have a lot of thoughts about his eunjang friends running with him but that’s for another time (but i love them so dearly) BUT!!

the way when fucking choi hyunwook showed his face, something in me released and healed. i sobbed, my body SHOOK with my cries of relief, i don’t know when another show made me so emotionally invested i felt that my own best friend had been in a coma and just woke up. like damn these characters aren’t real!!!!!

but fr after watching season 1 it affected me so so much i couldn’t stop thinking about sieun and suho for weeks, and i rewatched it of course prior to the season 2 release which just opened old wounds. but wow i’m so so glad they saved him, i am so so happy i literally cried tears of relief

Now that I have completed watching DP season 2 I have to sit and collect my thoughts because it was so heavily packed that i have no words to really give justice to it. It's one of its kind, it makes you really think about who the system really is favouring and protecting at the end of the day. It makes you realise that any institution in any country, has their own moral dilemmas for the people in that institution, it makes you ponder, can there really be any change? Or is it how it's always going to be. Do the people in that institution are just puppets in the hands of the higher ups? That line from min-u to beom-gu about how this is happening so he knows not to question or mess around or that dialogue from ji seop where he is testifying in the court saying that the military promises to protect the country, doesn't that mean that the people in the military are bound to be protected as well (or something like that) and this hits you because yess aren't they supposed to be protected from all the abuse that is always overlooked. It makes you understand the extreme steps people take when they are constantly abused and tortured for so long that the fine line between right and wrong is often blurred. It makes you understand the need in people to escape the prison that the institution becomes where they went to be trained to protect the nation but cannot protect themselves only. It makes you wonder about free will and how there is no autonomy of choice for people. All the stories of the deserters will be close to my heart but I will never ever forget nina, she has etched a mark in my heart that will forever be there. I saw bae nara in the weak hero and I was like what??? And then I saw he was in season 2 of DP and i had to had to watch it like cmon!?! and now I am not the same person any more. they didn't have to do this to us. Like who's gonna pay for all the therapy man?

Watching all the boys from weak hero turn up in DP made me giddy with happiness, it was like finding treasure in a treasure hunt. Imagine my surprise watching jun young and then getting to seee my boy choi hyunwook like broooooooooooo. The range these actors have is commendable. I squeaked in my seat like a lil teen girl when I saw hyunwook coming on screen smoking and the different personalities he showed made me go all damnnn like wow I knew this boy could act but still.

Watching jang su living and smiling a normal life along with jun ho it kicked me in the gut as well because it was such a contrast to all the shit he made people go through and all the shit show the series went through showing how the abuser moves on in their life with no remorse of their own. And then watching seok bong coming and meeting jun ho smiling but with a scar on his face was a whipash but a good metaphor to tell you that yes life does get better despite everything

Also it would be a disservice to talk about all of DP without talking about jung hae in, there is something about this guy that just tugs you in your heart and years later i am always going to be proud of jun ho as a character knowing he sleeps well in night and that's all I want for him.

All in all it was 10+/10 experience but i would never ever do that to myself again.

Jihoon saw his future and was given the chance to go back in time. He does it all again but this time, change it for the better. To keep himself, and her.

Is he famous at school? Nope, he’s not. 

Girls who worship the ground they walk on are undoubtedly part of a different group of guys. Nevertheless, Park Jihoon enjoys a lot of popularity with the girls. Although he doesn't speak much in class, he is not shy. His self-control when giving a presentation in front of his class would surprise you. Jihoon won’t talk to you unless you talk to him first, won’t greet you unless you do— he just doesn’t like initiating anything.

But that doesn't mean he won't socialize. His loud outbursts during group projects and occasional jokes during discussions with his favorite instructor were common occurrences. He has two faces, just like a coin. You’ll either get the head or the tail.

“Stop staring at him.” Daeun sat right in front of Y/N, who was staring mindlessly at Jihoon, about eight chairs away from them. “You’ve been doing that for the past three days. He’s definitely gonna notice.”

Y/N blinked. Three days? So, it’s Thursday? Fuck. She needs to go back to work or else, she’s really gonna get fired this time.

“I wasn’t staring at him.” Y/N pursed, putting her focus on the opened book at her table. 

“Sure, you weren’t.” Daeun rolled her eyes. “Ever since Hyunwook mentioned how he finds Jihoon handsome, you’ve been looking at the guy through his soul.” Hyunwook, the social butterfly Y/N considers as her other best friend. He knows almost everyone in school, and everyone knows him.

Y/N sighed. 

Daeun’s right. She has never looked at Jihoon, ever. At least, not in that way. He was just an ordinary guy, who happens to go to the same classes as her. She used to laugh at his lame jokes in class, smile when they make eye contact, and even converse with him during vacant hours. 

But now, every time his eyes wander around the room, she finds herself looking away and avoiding his gaze. Every time he would get up from his seat to do something, she would now press her cheeks on the table, pretending to be asleep. She’s not scared of him or anything… it’s the butterflies in her stomach, and her heart beating loudly that makes her want to run away.

The commotion of students running to their seats snapped at Y/N and Daeun. Their instructor walked in, placing a pile of test papers on the desk, with an unamused look on his face. “Fix yourselves. We’re having another test after this.”

As he was about to turn his back and write on the board, Hyunwook arrived with all eyes on him. “Good morning, Teacher.”

Mr. Kim raised his eyebrows, “Choi Hyunwook, how many times have you arrived late in my class?”

“It’s my first time, Sir.” He smiled. Y/N grimaced. This dumb bit—

“Are you sure?”

“Hundred percent.” The room echoed in laughter. Daeun shakes her head in amusement, while Y/N scowled looking at her best friend’s teasing smile.

Hi! Do you think Sieun and Soho will become an official couple if there's a Season 3? Or will the director end it as just a platonic or friendship-based relationship? I’ve seen people reacting strongly—someone even said they might tone down the connection between Sieun and Soho because of the negative feedback from some fans

hihi! I have to be real here, I don't think they will ever become an official couple in S3 (if there's S3). First off, WHC had such a huge commercial success even without Netflix's support, such that Netflix sought to buy over its rights. With that huge commercial success, comes the burden of being a cash cow series and as you said, lots of negative feedback (regardless if its homophobia or people who wish to keep the relationship platonic) if the directors decide to make shse a couple. There are also too many people out there who are against BLs for some reason. Netflix isn't going to turn away such a large portion of the fanbase just to cater to us folks who wish to see a romantic relationship. If they keep shse homoerotic, they win on both ends of the fanbase: Us who will scream over the slightest affectionate interaction, and those who can still argue that shse are close friends. It really sucks, but showbiz and queerbait still work hand in hand for buzz.

Though, given how much the directors as well as the actors themselves seem to be aware and have even breathed life into the shse dynamic themselves ("I asked them to think of the show as a melodrama, a kind of first love" - Director, "It's like a high school love" - Hyunwook etc), I don't believe they will tone down the connection between Sieun and Suho. Writing wise, it's just too jarring, because platonic or otherwise, Suho literally haunted Sieun all of S2. It's clear Suho means the world to Sieun. Toning down their relationship may just backfire, for fans who love their friendship and for fans who see them romantically involved. It's really obvious that they're doing damage control. Suho and Sieun will remain great friends, don't worry.

It's not beyond hope that they may add in scenes that go beyond typical friendship affection. Well, if they do kiss, then. Fuck me alright happy pride

You know, My Beloved by Lee Hi is kinda giving me Yichan and Cheongah vibes. They lyrics kinda give me the angst of whenever Yichan was struggling at the end (and we never get to see how Cheongah comforts him or how she finds out about him which makes me angry still). And I know for a fact that he would not want to watch her cry, and could probably endure that hard patch in his life of readjusting because she’s there with him. (It’s in the lyrics around the end, I think). Overall, the message is giving them in a sense and I can’t explain properly 😅

Also the mv too. They’re goofing off in the art room (Cheongah and art), and his hospital bed is right next to a window (Yichan’s was next to the window too), and Hyunwook and Suzu are hugging and I’m just like: Cheongah and Yichan would do the same, I just know it. And idk, it’s just them to me.

Please, does someone else see the connection too, or am I just insane? 😭😭😭

last series was DP (deserter pursuit) season 2, i meant to watch it when it came out but i got so ANNOYED because people only watched it because of kim hyunwook… (don’t get me wrong, i love him, but the series is great whether or not hes in it). SOME OF THEM EVEN SKIPPED SEASON 1 OR EVEN ONLY WATCHED HIS EPISODE??? boiled my BLOOD. so i’ve only now watched it…..

contradictory really as a writer but i don’t actually read all that much… like ‘real’ (if you’d call it that) books anyway.

i do want to restart the CSM & TBHK mangas sometime though… i read them in like ¿2020? and then dipped; also quit CSM because the anime side of the fandom annoyed me LMAO

strong girl namsoon!!! i love both lee yoomi & ong seungwu so i thought i’d may aswell watch it, usually i hate romance dramas but i’m actually enjoying this one.
