John As An Unreliable Narrator in “Post TRF and the CLUEs”

I write it as "Post-TRF”, because I think it’s possible that in S3 and S4, we’re still on the roof, working through the thirteen possible scenarios.

John restarts his blog on April 20th, posting about A New Beginning. Basically, it’s there to draw our attention back to the fact he has a blog, and talk about Sherlock. In the next entry of April 26th, he posts photos of old cases, in A Few Pictures. We’re inching forward, case by case, but it shouldn’t be misconstrued as reliable. He mentions codes, bombs, saving two kids (Eurus and Trevor foreshadowing?), Sherlock loving The Hat (Which...what?! It will make sense, below), and playing Cluedo/Clue (Which chronologically, like the hat, should have been before Henry’s house from HoB. But, they have special significance, we didn’t entirely understand at the time).

These entries are in the Mary-era, and we know that, because she replies to the ANB saying they should go have a drink. Harry gets annoyed that people are suggesting drinking as a solution (which becomes a larger issue in S4), but also demands to know who Mary is. Because, John still hasn’t mentioned her on the blog or apparently to his own sister.

By November, John is set to propose, but Myroft brings Sherlock back just in time to interrupt the occasion, and even knows the restaurant, with an offer of a good wine. Although,

This isn’t an actual description for a wine from any particular vintner; it’s a collection of estates, so either Sherlock should already know the vintner or something is going on (like the concept of a chateau/the house in TFP being similar) or Mycroft is suggesting a location for Sherlock to go after he meets with John? I bring up this latter point, because in S4, it’s not clear if Mycroft knew Mary was part of AGRA or not.

(Sherlock even seems skeptical on that point.) *Mycroft just lowers his head, and smiles a little* Sherlock: He’s already killed looking for that memory stick.  AGRA always worked for the highest bidder.  I thought that might include you. Mycroft: Me? Sherlock: Well, I mean the British government or whatever government you’re currently propping up. Mycroft: AGRA were very reliable; then came the Tbilisi incident.  They were sent in to free the hostages but it all went horribly wrong.  And that was that. We stopped using freelancers. Sherlock: Your initiative? Mycroft: My initiative.  Freelancers are too woolly; too messy.  I don’t like loose ends – not on my watch. (So, it was Mycroft that ended the arrangement, potentially giving AGRA a reason to work for Moriarty--the other person with money and an agenda. In S3, he already seemed to be questioning whether Moriarty’s network was truly dismantled, but he’s playing this close to the chest.)

Most of this doesn’t make sense, unless you take into consideration that this is then followed by 13 blog posts (thirteen possible scenarios), and TAB/S3/4.

So then, why does it end with the Cluedo reference? Because we had to come full circle, and back to Twitter, as well as fit in the pieces from S3/4. The victim did do it, but he had to carefully arrange the situation, so it would be believed. @darlingtonsubstitution​ did a wonderful three-piece meta about working all the way through, because we started getting hints back in S1. @gosherlocked wrote a post about Mrs. Hudson’s wardrobe showing us important milestones. There is also the issue that in HoB, Sherlock refers to Mrs. Hudson’s dress being new, even makes a big deal about it, but she was wearing the same dress in ASiB.

Then, there is the issue of ‘entanglement’. It’s not just romantic, although when physicists illustrate Entanglement Theory, they use images like this:

Finally, this is where we see Lestrade being upset about the blog and who gets credit, first becomes a “thing”. It resurfaces in T6T, because it’s related to The Parasite, and the dates where John doesn’t have blog entries. @teaandqueerbaiting

It explains the odd situation of Sherlock being close enough to hear what John said about another miracle, and not being dead, but far enough away that anyone working for Moriarty wouldn’t see him standing in the same cemetery where he’s supposedly buried. Even if (like the cane we see later in TLD) the tombstone had a recording device in it, it would still have had to have been retrieved. 

In the end/the beginning, we’re back to ASiP, as pointed out by @darlingtonsubstitution If not ASiP, at least ASiB, when you consider the fate of the actual mirror in 221B.
