          The sheer immensity of Harrenhal had provoked dizziness in Visenya. She had heard the story innumerable times. For four decades, King Harren Hoare had built greedily and obsessively, sacrificing thousands of slaves, and beggaring the riverlands and the Iron Islands. The indestructible construction had been no match for Balerion, whose fire had consumed the tyrant and his sons inside it, ending their line. Most Westerosi believed that the phantoms of the Hoares wandered the castle halls. The fortress is costly to maintain, and it devours its possessors. Qoherys, Harroway, Towers… All extinct. Whether cursed or not, Harrenhal remained a strategic location – the largest castle in the Seven Kingdoms.

          The current castellan – Larys Clubfoot’s great-uncle – Ser Simon Strong had recently surrendered Harrenhal to Daemon Targaryen. The presence of Caraxes might have contributed to his hasty decision. Following the victory at the Burning Mill and the subsequent submission of Stone Hedge – terminating Green strength in the riverlands – Queen Rhaenyra’s allies had commenced their gathering at Harrenhal, in accordance with the Prince Consort’s stratagem.

          Visenya had departed Dragonstone on the same night that Daemon had summoned her, having been granted safe passage by the Velaryon ships patrolling the Gullet. At the outbreak of the war, the Sea Snake’s fleet had closed off Blackwater Bay, choking trade to and from the capital.

          As soon as she had dismounted her dragon in the castle yard, she had sensed the eerie ambience that had haunted Harrenhal’s colossal curtain walls and fissured, melted towers. Formidable and dreadful. Harren’s monument and tomb. Blackwing had responded to Caraxes’ fervent shriek with her own, flapping her wings at him. Happy to be reunited.

          Her father had offered her a warm welcome and a tight embrace, had even insisted that she sit on his war council, wherein she had befriended Alysanne Blackwood, whom she had grown quite fond of.

          At last, Visenya had thought, on the morning that Daemon had sent for her. Though she loved him dearly, her father hadn’t invited her there because he had missed his daughter. Visenya had met with Daemon alone, in the Hall of the Hundred Hearths – she had counted thirty-five – grander than the throne room in King’s Landing, the discolored ceiling looming loftily above them. Her father had donned his chain mail over his crimson tunic.

          Does he sleep in that? Or am I the threat?

          ‘Ser Crispin and the Kinslayer are marching on Harrenhal,’ Daemon had informed her, instead of “good morrow”, pressing a rolled parchment into her palm, ‘They mean to join forces with the Lannisters’, at Stoney Sept.’

          Her heart had jolted at the mere mention of his title. Aemond… At the Usurper’s farce of a coronation that the Hightowers had compelled her to attend – dressed in green – Visenya had kissed him farewell, forsaking any glimmer of hope for a future with him. I have demonstrated where my loyalties lie. I have chosen my family.

          Her lilac eyes had skimmed over the scrawled message on the sheepskin, the wax sigil foreign to her. The White Worm?

          ‘You are strangely poised,’ Visenya had observed, suspicious, studying her father’s amused expression.

          ‘I’ve been waiting for this,’ he had confirmed, smirking wickedly, curling his hand around the hilt of sheathed Dark Sister. Another one of his traps… and he’s pulling me into it. Daemon had gently cradled her cheek, purring, ‘I have a mission for you, sweetling.’

the way that for halloween, after trick or treating, one of my best friends made us watch the most fucked up horror movie ive ever seen which scared me fucking severely and had me shaking and on the verge of crying by the end, leaning on my boyfriend like crazy and at one point literally having him shield my eyes from the goddamn screen, and my friend literally fell asleep before the fucked up shit started to ramp up all that crazy. it’s almost 7:30 am and i’m trying to sleep but i just cannot stop thinking about this fucking movie, in the worst and most derogatory way possible, and we watched tf out of little shop of horrors after to sort of try and cleanse it but man i can’t. i hate horror movies that have too realistic of a premise and this one was about hackers and the dark web and human trafficking and shit like that which really exists. there wasn’t a lot of gore and there was a bit of stuff that broke the suspension of disbelief a bit by virtue of being.. a little ridiculous, but they kept it to a minimum with the Stretching The Realism Too Much, and the premise was so horrifying that, like, first of all i don’t think they’re even allowed to show the type of shit that was established to happen within the story, and also leaving it up to the imagination is, in some cases, much more effective. i know a lot of what’s running around in my mind rn is “god that one scene was so fucking horrible i can’t imagine how terrible a full video of that fucked up shit would be… but i can try” like my brain not shutting up bc of adhd is a problem frequently but like you’ve gotta be kidding me this time. we finished watching that movie like 7-8 hours ago and i was shaking then and im still so so fucking horrified and i kinda feel sick. it was a good movie i’ll say, but at what fucking cost? i need to hustle to make rent the next two days i don’t have time to stay awake thinking about how fucked up that movie was

LITERALLY!!! this is happening to so many of these “fringe” female characters. The fake caring only when it concerns centering characters or narratives they like, even it makes little sense. Hence the popularity of helaemond. But a lot of those people do not speak about Helaena outside of her connection to Aemond 😵‍💫. And then you have the people pissed at the idea of Aemond (team green legend) getting even more fleshed out character work. It’s why those same people are obsessed with scenarios where Aemond switches sides for whatever reason. They find him hot and compelling but don’t want to admit it… couldn’t be ME! Also it is connected to Aemond being the resident self insert guy. People are so focused on shipping and who they want him with. And an older, dubiously acting witch is not what they envision for him. And like not to judge bc hello fic writer here, but it is annoying how people misread very in your face story telling simply to fit a ship.

people seem to forget that Aemond seems pretty… repressed in multiple ways because of trauma. I feel like having that scene of him visibly uncomfortable at that brothel lady to him “keeping a woman to rape” would be a crazy turn imo.

If they want to make it seem like alys cares about the strongs, I think they should’ve set that up in the first season. Or at least made the older strongs we saw not like… awful or annoying lmao. I don’t see her caring about harrenhal as a place outside of gaining some power that’s been taken from her. I would love the idea of since harrenhal is considered haunted, she gets “powers” from that place. Like she feels stronger (pun intended) being there versus “normal places”

And like you said, most people who like alys and Aemond together are very realistic about how murky their relationship can be. No one is expecting Aemond to be Prince Charming, just like no one should be expecting alys to be the perfect self insert protagonist. Anyway regardless of what happens, I think it will eat just based on how Ewan talks about Aemond. Ewan gets him so our boy is in good hands 🙏🏽

hey! i dont wanna make this too long but i LOVED honeyboy so much im actually so speechless about it. a friend recommended this fic to me and when i saw the word count i went :0 bc in all my years of reading on tumblr ive never come across a fic that was over 25k and although thats a bit disappointing because im a sucker for long fics, this one was 54k words of pure amazement? wonder? goodness? idk, all i know is that it was so good im just so ..yeah

knowing this is a really really long fic that you surely put your blood sweat and tears into, i knew i had to sit and read this with absolutely no interruptions whatsoever so i did whatever i had to do and sat my ass down and 3 and a half hours (maybe more maybe less) later im here writing this (its currently 6:27am if you want a time check) and those 3+ hours did NOT go to waste im telling you

i loved the story from the beginning to the end and i love reading slowburn bc it just is so good you know? ive really been in my mingyu feels ever since in the soop and ive just been feeling it with this story like my heart HURT a lot throughout this fic. usually when i read long stories, i take a break every now and then because i have a low attention span or i wanna prolong the story (thats mainly cause most of them are obviously way shorter), but this one? i literally am not kidding when i say i read it through and through without a pause in between because its just so captivating and so good like amongst these 3 hours i felt myself becoming attached to the story and i went, dang what should i do with my life when i inevitably end this one. i just love long stories with impeccable writing like that.

12. symbolism: tell me about some cool symbolism in spn! your pick

*puts on my english major hat* im about to put more effort into this than anything ive ever written for college. ok top 10 supernatural symbolism...this isnt in any particular order its just whatever i think of first. also it might not be actual top 10 im just remembering random shit. this has gotten out of hand so im putting it under a read more

1. the most obvious one, the impala. many have discussed this before me and im probably just repeating what others have said, but the impala is an extension of deans body/a representation and mirror of both his physical and mental state. obviously the impala gets destroyed in the season 1 finale when dean is dying. and he rebuilds it in season 2, while he is trying to regroup and rebuild from the death of his father. ive seen a post about how dean losing it and smashing the impala is a metaphorical form of self-harm which is :(( also, the impala staying covered and hidden away while dean is living with lisa and ben with this reading is so interesting. i do think dean loved the idea of a normal life with lisa and ben more than the reality (not that i dont think he loved them! any scene with dean and ben makes me soft). but this also makes it that much sadder because supernatural considers dean unable to live a life that doesnt involve hunting; the impala is hidden and dean is a shell of his real self. in season 7, they once again have to hide the impala away and use other cars. the impala is gone and hidden away; something is wrong. dean is hurting. he isnt his full self. why? whats missing during that time? cas. and in season 10, when dean is a demon, he stops caring for the impala. you know, because something is wrong with him. because hes a demon.

2. dean knocking over and breaking the angel statue in the beautiful room. he makes it fall with a single touch, hardly a push. and all it took cas was a single touch for him to fall and break. dean, of course, doesnt mean to shatter cas, though he does mean to make him fall. dean repeatedly argues with cas, acting as the human opposite to cas’ emotionless faith in heaven, pushing him toward the edge, pushing him to rebel, pushing him to choose humanity. and it works; cas learns to love through dean, and through that he rebels against heaven and falls in “every way imaginable.” and when he hits the ground, he breaks, shattering all his faith in god and everything, leading into the godstiel arc as he tries to put his pieces back together.

3. the streetlight as a halo over cas’ head in on the head of a pin. it flickers when anna appears, which is physically meant to show her power. however, it also shows cas’ wavering faith in heaven. interesting how anna, the angel who chose humanity over heaven and decided to fall, is the one making cas’ halo flicker. he is beginning to question things. he is beginning to feel. he is beginning to fall.

4. deans leather jacket in the first few seasons. its not actually dean’s, of course. it belonged to john. dean picks it up and puts it on while he and sam are searching for him, physically shouldering the weight of johns expectations of him. its too big on him. and dean is 26 at that point. hes well past done growing; he’ll never fit perfectly into that jacket. no matter what he does, he’ll never fit perfectly into johns expectations: the perfect son, the perfect soldier. and leather jackets are heavy even if they fit well. there is a physical weight on his shoulders now, a manifestation of the weight of the world and the weight of being a parent for his younger brother and everything john has piled onto dean since he was a child. he eventually stops wearing it (bc some absolute legend stole it irl), and i wish they’d taken that as an opportunity to have dean grow out of the shadow of his father, but supernatural is a bad show so they didnt.

5. mary, who just happens to be named after the mother of jesus. the perfect wife, the loving mother, the tragic figure, the victim, clad in white, the color of innocence. except shes not. she was raised a hunter. shes lived the bloody dark side of the world hidden from most. she loved her children, but she wasnt a perfect wife and mother. she didnt know how to cook. she and john fought, and he even moved out for a few days, and she needed her four-year-old son to comfort her. she is not the virginal mother; shes an imperfect person just trying to do her best. the dabb-era deconstruction of the very concept of mary makes me crazyyyyyyy if you couldnt tell.

7. serafina the angel (the pantheistic view in that episode makes me crazy but we wont get into that). serafina, whose name is audibly similar to seraph, the class of angel that cas is. coincidentally, the only seraphim we see in the show are cas, who falls in love with dean, and akobel, who married lily sunder. serafina, who fell in love with adam, the literal progenitor of humanity. and who is the character in supernatural that has always stood for humanity as a whole? dean. serafina literally had me convinced that deancas would happen in the finale.

8. the removal of -iel from cas’ name. dear god this one drives me crazy and i doubt it was on purpose. castiel, the shield of god. for eons he existed as a warrior and tool of god. and then along comes dean winchester, who does a very human thing. he gives him a nickname. cas. he removes the “of god” part. he removes god from cas, because dean doesnt value him for being a good soldier or a good son. he values him simply because hes cas. and cas questions everything, his loyalty to heaven, his blind faith that god would one day return. he is no longer a warrior of god. he is simply cas, the shield, and this time he chooses to be a shield for humanity, for the winchesters, for dean. for the michael sword. the shield protects the sword. cas dies shielding dean. this got off topic but its just sooo insane.

except,, maybe SHE doesnt exactly know how to do that EITHER—because think about it, as far as we know the only friend she ever HAD (that she remembers) was chris, and he died when she was around ten im guessing. her last sleepover, if they even had any at ALL what with sooha's mother's wariness and chris being a boy, would have been five or six years ago; the only stuff she knows about Fun Teenage Sleepovers probably comes from movies, books, and tv shows. so here sooha is, faced with seven boys who have never had a single normal experience in their lives, determined to give them as many of those missed experiences as she can, while she... has ALSO never had a single normal experience in her life. so, in a way, its all new for her, too—this whole having a group of friends and going out to do fun things with them thing. the boys ask her what exactly you DO at a sleepover, and she stumbles, gathering together all of the little things she's picked up from various pieces of media over the years: you wear pajamas, and you sleep in sleeping bags, and do each other's makeup and gossip, and watch movies, and eat junk food until the sun comes up. sooha says something about the REAL meaning of sleepovers being to not sleep at ALL and spend time with your friends, and shion furrows his brows and asks, "why is it called a SLEEPOVER in the first place, then?" and she does too because she doesnt have an answer. so they have their sleepover, and maybe its a little weird, maybe not like a normal sleepover, or how a sleepover SHOULD be—sooha wonders constantly if theyre having fun, if shes doing it right—but its good. its nice. and then at the end of it, when they ditch both the sleeping bags and the counterintuitive "dont sleep at the sleepover" rule, all forming one giant cuddle pile on heli's bed and pulling her into the middle, none of them say anything if she cries a little bit.

only related to the rest of this ask by proxy of it also being about the dark moon, the other day my beloved mutual artzyy (@heeyunies) and i were discussing the logistics of solon being a hybrid—namely, if he bit someone, would they turn into a werewolf, a vampire, or a hybrid of both? the general consensus we reached was that it would depend on just what sort of hybrid he WAS. i even made a little chart!

if he's an artificial/lab-created hybrid like he is in OUR au (born a werewolf, fed vampire blood to become a vampire later on), i feel like he's... not really a hybrid in the way a lot of living creatures are hybrids; mules, zorses, that sort of thing. because the fundamental truth (or at least the fundamental truth in my theoretical werewolf/vampire canon) is that werewolves and vampires are opposites: werewolves are the pinnacle of life, in a way, and vampires are. literally dead. they are THE undead. the two supernatural races are completely incompatible—which we've already mentioned before as the reason solon's body sort of shuts down, locking his powers away when he receives the vampire "gene". if we look at vampirism and lycanthropy as viruses or infections, it's more like they're both existing in solon's body at the same time but seperately, fighting to take control of the space rather than mixing. solon's werewolf genes are repressed by the vampire genes when he's in his "human" form, so if he were to bite someone then and inject his "venom" they'd turn into a vampire. BUT if he bites someone while transformed, his werewolf genes have fought their way to the forefront again, and the victim turns into a werewolf. theres always the hypothetical case where he bites someone once as a vampire and then bites the SAME person again as a wolf, which could turn THEM into a hybrid, too, but im guessing that would happen to ANYONE that got bit by both a werewolf and vampire.

and then theres the other case my friend and i thought of, not canon to you and i's au but still hypothetically kind of cool—where solon is an organic/natural/biological hybrid, one parent being a werewolf and one a vampire. here, like i drew in the chart, the genes have time to actually mix and come together naturally, so rather than being either a werewolf OR a vampire depending on which side of him is most dominant at the time, solon is always a hybrid, and hypothetically then his bite would turn OTHERS into hybrids, as well. this is entirely hypothetical because, well, the way i see it vampires are literally dead and incapable of sexual reproduction, so that could never happen—or if they ARE capable of it their kid is just a regular human, because vampirism isnt genetic. still fun to think about tho :P

soooo we watched more! woohoo

we finished the hunter exam arc???? i THNK? lmaoooo at the end of the ep (21 i thiiiiink) we were on, satotz was like BUT THE HUNTER EXAM ISNT EVEN OVER YET or w/e lol aigh??? whats up w/that

anyways a lot happened in the last few eps that we watched....man i shouldve written this earlier but i litrelly havent been online. anyways

so during the hunter exam stage 4...gon is literally perfect (as i always have to say), him reuniting w/leorio and kurapika was rlly sweet :’) 

of course he immediately offered to help....goodest boy 

and wow that kid has such a powerful nose bvhjksfbjsk he rlly be a gr8 sniffer 

ok literally the part where leorio was in the cave and was like GON KURAPIKA DONT COME IN HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and they both full speed sprint into the cave with 0 hesitation.....we love a 0 brain cells family 

i love leorio so much he really just b running around w/a switchblade and a breifcase, both of which he barely used during the exam lmao

so bummed that leorio slicing up tht snake happened offscreen. how tf did that even work, he doesnt have a goddamn sword

gon just being able to hold his breath for almost 10 mins makes so much sense somehow...he rlly is one of those shounen protags who is just casually a ridiculous human being and doesnt even fully realize that its weird 

that shot of him carrying everyone out of the cave was so sweet

and of course gon vs snakes....hes so perfect....he trusts his friends so much :’) 

also random aside but im so glad tonpa is out and idk if i talked abt this in my prev post but i feel like in most shounen he wouldve been like, so inspired by gons shounen protag energy that he wouldve changed his tune and taken the exam genuinely and either passed or declared that hed definitely pass next year - but no, he was awful til the end, this aint that kind of story (yet...?) 

have i mentioned that i hate hisoka? cause i hate hisoka. nasty ass crusty clown bitch 

what else happened in the phase 4 stuff. oh yeah killua clowned on those triplet dudes (and hanzo lowkey), which was great

ok the opening not having changed this whole time is so funny. imagine if it never changed and its still basic and cheery when everything gets crazy and dark lmao 

ooh my god i forgot to mention this last time but i feel like gons backpack is full of hair gel and hair gel ONLY, he only brought hair gel and his fishing rod. this is canon ty 

oh gosh when killua and gon reunited at the end of the 4th stage....OOOUGH so precious...those two are so cute god. i want a compilation of their cute moments together i hope that exists 

GOD OH FUCK the scene on the airship where kurapika and gon talked bc gon was clearly bothered by something (what happened w/hisoka obvs. i hate that clown bitch) and OUGHHHH OH GOD gon crying LICHRALLY killed me oh man :( i was literally just chanting NO NO NO!!!! at the TV cause seeing tiny baby boy upset was so sad....and ik it gets soooo much worse oh god i cant handle it 

the whole convo was really good and really anti-shounen (once again...feel like thatll be a theme lmao) bc like, it was a healthy convo where gon talked honestly abt his feelings instead of using some shounen protag BS phrases like ‘it doesnt matter!!! ill be stronger next time!!!’ or w/e....and kurapika is a such a good parent oh man :( 

again, cant get over how genuine and uncomplicated the teamup of the main 4 characters has been....literally no ‘we’re competing and only teaming up for convenience/the hunter exam comes before our friendship’ nonsense

the bracket setup was so interesting oh man....very funky and creative. and then it wasnt really fully utilized lol, i feel like thats indicative of a bigger patten - hxh so far has been really creative and interesting, and clearly uninterested in setting things up simply to check off boxes on a shounen tropes checklist....i can already see what makes it so great if this keeps up bc daym, so many shounen have their interesting themes drowned out by the overwhelming necessity for the plot to hit certain shounen story beats, smothering otherwise new/fresh ideas and rerouting them back into the same old over-trodden shounen trope territory 

on a meta level, i wonder if the author was like, allowed more leniency (’do whatever bro’) bc hed already been successful w/yu yu hakusho. i havent seen/ready yyh so idk how ‘typically shounen’ it is but thats st that im curious about 

aaanyways. the tournament starts w/hanzo beating up gon for THREE HOURS STRAIGHT. jesus dude. so yeah obviously leorio and kurapika are the best parents ever and them getting so righteously angry over seeing this happen to gon is so heartwarming and good and also a big big mood 

they love their son okay. also that was fucked up. ALSO i find it interesting that thats only the second time we’ve seen kurapikas eyes turn red 

i bet that hisoka saw that also and somethign something phantom troupe, see bottom of post in predictions section 

seeing gon get beat up like that made my heart hurt :( especially when hanzo broke his arm...oof. 

god also i cant believe hanzo is 18 hes literally bald hvbhjafbjs whats w/hxh and making everyone a teen or younger lmao god 

also omfg i love that leorio and kurapika are lichreally 19 and already have kids wow thats amazing especially considering their kids are 12. its so funny that theyre such Parents already considering that the age gap is kinda hilariously small, espec bc i thought that they (mostly leorio) were a lot older at first lmao 

the fact that gon gets to win that fight against hanzo was a legit shock to me....again, anti-shounen. we’d normally want to see what our protag can do in a fight - espec in a tournament-style arc where the consequences arent as high typically - so we’d want him to go further, which is easy here bc to move on he has to lose, which is easy bc gon is a baby w/no offensive capabilities (that we’ve seen)

god ive talked abt this already but its so fascinating how we havent really had any full-on fights???? espec w/the main 4 characters????? we still barely know what they can do....WE STILL HAVENT BEEN INTRODUCED TO NEN???? 

ive been spoiled (i guess?) to the existence of nen but thats abt it. what can it do? what is it? fuck if i know lmao. so i could totally see them pulling a ‘we were using nen the whole time’ w/like hisoka or st, OR a ‘YOU were using nen the whole time w/out realizing it’ w/gon

ok anyways. that hanzo fight was rough but also gon is literally the best. he was trying to bargain w/hanzo to figure out a way where they could come to a conclusion that would satisfy them both - despite hanzo clearly outmatching gon in skill, so the effort on hanzo’s part would be pointless and simply for gon’s benefit....basically the entire proposal sound ludicris and insulting to suggest (or st, idk how to phrase it), but since its gon of COURSE he only has the purest of intentions and means it so genuinely that you cant even be mad at him 

hanzo just knocking him out lmaoooo and then hes just out for the rest of the tournament???? thats so wild and...whatdya know....un-shounen! 

then he wakes up n his lil x-shaped forehead bandage....ough so cute

also the whole convo he and satotz had abt gon’s victory and hunter license and earning/deserving it was so good :’) 

also i feel like the show did a good job of humanizing characters like satotz. i legit thought he was a robot or st at first but it feels more like hes just A Guy now,....albeit a weird guy, but thats to be expected. its like, yeah this guy also took the hunter exam at one point, wow.

anways this is already long and i havent even gotten to the killua stuff yet lol so im gonna stop here for now. and introducing a new segment..........the prediction corner! where i dump my speculations/predictions, entirely for my future self’s benefit 

PREDICTIONS: 

first off as i alluded to above, i think that hisoka has some sort of connection to the phantom troupe (does he know them? maybe not, but he knows where to find them? idk) and when he saw kurapikas red eyes, was able to figure out that whole deal and said st to kurapika during that fight like ‘hey i can help you find the phantom troupe if you want :))))’ 

i kinda said this earlier but i predict that kurapika might get really wrapped up in revenge and go off the rails a bit. we’ll see, so far that hasnt really happened, but for some reason i kinda think that it will? we’ll see

i (incorrectly) predicted that killua would have known that illumi was there the whole time, considering that he was able to noticing the hunter exam dudes following him in phase 4, etc....but BOY was i wrong about that oof 

iiii think that the whole ‘the hunter exam isnt over yet!!!’ stuff will be an opportunity for killua to pass this year still, maybe? idk abt that tho
