im actually curious about the salmonid politic climate. what's going on in fish politics
This question is too vague for me to answer without responding with a whole book that I don’t think I have the energy to write right now… But I’ll give you a little rundown of current issues :] :
Anyway, a current main concern that doesn’t involve inklings or octarians or other outside relations is that Salmonids are made up of thousands of Clans of varying ranks that each have rulers. This system (because of old cultural traditions that bleed into modern politics) encourages a lot of infighting between the LOWER RANK clans to either:
A. climb ranks, which is mostly out of practice (because the wealth disparity is so giant it’s near impossible to climb to a higher rank without being forced up by a clan leader that controls your land),
OR, B. more popularly; secure opportunities for more benefits by destroying neighboring clans, which is beneficial to the low rank clan leaders because these higher ranks donate resources and armies to them, they do this to maintain loyalty to their name, and they use lower rank clan-cities to house / harvest their own resources.
This idea states that larger clans will have more resources, meaning the economy in a larger clan or a low rank that’s fed by a larger clan will be more prosperous, but it’s the clan leaders in control of the desires and actions of the given sectors for Salmonid disputes and battles, which most of the time do more harm for common folk than good, being consumed by a higher rank isn’t a good solution to this issue but because these Salmonids are so often mistreated by these Low-Rank Clan Leaders that their hate for them causes their politics to be misplaced.
Larger ranking Salmonids are trying to absorb these smaller ranks into their own cities instead of feeding them wealth and land— they do this because they have a larger plan of creating an economy of Salmonids consisting of a section of about 3 Salmonid high ranks within the current western population (which; as of now, stands as the largest and most affluent and is typically the region that is referenced in politics.) which obviously most smaller ranks hate— because being taken in and absorbed entirely instead of being taken care of and uses to house resources means the Rulers/Leaders within the clan will lose most of their main authority.
Most clans outside of the west are less large, and often don’t have any “ranking leaders” and mostly just have a single high rank, and considers its PEOPLE, low or middle rank. This “king and civilians” type leadership is more common south.
