So I washed Mabel’s snuffle mat tonight and the look of betrayal on her face is sending me 😂 I didn’t know she was that attached to the thing
#for anyone who doesn’t know; a snuffle mat is basically a fabric mat with a bunch of felt rectangles stuck to it to mimic grass#it’s a combination toy/slow feeder bowl. mabel has a tendency to scarf her food down and immediately throw it up if we give it to her#in a normal bowl; so she only gets wet food in a plastic bowl & her kibble goes in the snuffle mat#she has to sniff it out and eat the kibbles more or less individually. so meals take longer; she’s less gassy (thank god); doesn’t choke on#her food; and it’s also a calming activity. sniffing tires dogs out more than exercise does#obviously they still need their exercise but sniffing works the brain and can be good for dogs who are experiencing cognitive decline#(like mabel who is a senior dog) or dogs experiencing anxiety (again; mabel; who is a rescue)#mabel’s a terrier also so she loooooves sniffing. she is obsessed with snuffle mat. even when it’s not mealtime she goes and checks it out#multiple times a day to make sure she got all her food. i put treats in there sometimes too to keep her occupied and build a positive#association. it works well#but yeah.. today i looked at it and was like ‘hmm.. gross!’ because it’s covered in food residue and terrier slobber and god knows what else#so i chucked it in the washer on a cold wash (it came out fine btw) and the betrayal on mabel’s face…….#i held it together better when my parents washed my stuffed animals lmao#anyway it’s on the airer now. it’ll be dry in time for breakfast for sure#i just found it funny the way she was standing in the hallway looking at me like 🤨#she has the most expressive face. i wish i’d gotten a picture#personal
