a difference between post-tianchuang zzs in the show vs in the novel that fascinates me is that the zzs from the show is miserable but unaware. hes got all these ideas as to why he deserves to be miserable but hes unaware as to why he might got all these ideas. hes, in a way, ignorant to his own fatal ways. zzs from the novel reads to me as fiercely resourceful. he would survive any catastrophe and come out with an educational experience. he is so agonizingly aware of himself i wouldnt put it past him to hold mental conferences on how to proceed on any and every thing. that means, his decision to fuck life and drink himself to death while enjoying everything he never could is calculated and conscious. his struggle with letting ppl in is, therefore, not just a struggle to grow but also to let go of an alternative life led in solitude that, if u ignore that hes slowly decomposing to death, wasnt going to be bad at all. so its absolutely incredible that he DOESNT take the easy road, the secure road, the safe road. and maybe thats the crucial point; its a challenge and its fun. and zzs is nothing but a gambler who likes fun and wkx. and the unexpected camradery and connection wkx brings. and being chased by wkx. and actually he doesnt want to die he just wants to find a different way of living. but its difficult and pointless to think about this when its set in stone that youre GONNA die. why ponder smth that won‘t change anything, thats a waste of time AND painful.

Ardeth x Reader
•Pretty please could you do one with Ardeth where it’s set in the first Mummy and during the fiasco with the Medjai trying to stop them from waking Imhotep, read gets shot in the thigh by one of the Medjai on accident and Ardeth helps her get better and Evie and Rick tease her about it?•
Tumblr media
Jonathon immediately started sipping at the twelve year old scotch whisky hed found in the satchel from the warden. You took the bottle from him a second later and took a swig of your own, being careful to avoid the broken part of the bottle.
The fire light danced over everyone's features and you couldnt help but notice that Rick seemed tense. He stared into the flame and exhaled heavily.
"Turns out the others had some misfortune of their own, three of their men were melted," he grimaced at the last part and Evy's eyebrows drew to the middle of her forehead.
"Maybe this place really is cursed," Jonathon supplied, taking the bottle back from your grip to help nurse his sudden anxiety. You stuck your tongue out at him.
You'd come along with the Carnahan siblings in their wild journey, Jonathon being one of your most difficult but treasured friends. You loved the both of them but now you felt some small kernel of regret and found yourself wishing at every sign of danger that youd stayed in the comfort of the library.
You realized your mind had gone elsewhere and your gaze set on the flickering flames because when you zoned back in everyone was gone. Your heart restricted with nervous energy and you quickly rose to your feet. You looked over the ruins and believed you heard shouting.
You paced in the sand for a few seconds but knew if something was happening you couldnt stay at your little camp in good conscious. What if your friends were in trouble? You walked down the path quickly but the closer you got to the violence the more you slowed.
You wouldnt be any use to anyone dead you told yourself but you knew you were scared, flinching at every gunshot and shout. The Medjai galloped around cutting down men just as fast as your people shot them off their horses.
With a quick scan of your eyes you found Jonathon ducked behind a slab of stone, gun in hand. You came to sit next to him and he whipped around suddenly, startled by your presence. In his excitement he squeezed the trigger, his shaky hands and loose grip setting the bullet into your shoulder.
It took you a minute to register what was going on. There was a loud noise and some tight pull in your skin and then you were on the ground. You blinked slowly and shook your head but then Jonathon was touching your face and squishing your cheeks and begging you to be alright.
You began to sit up but a sharp ache in that same shoulder stopped you. "I um... sort of shot you, Y/N, sorry about that," with Jonathon's lame apology you finally thought to look at your arm. Blood had seeped into your nice top and you meant to berate Jonathon but instead your eyes rolled back and you were gone.
You woke up some odd hours later, an ache in your limbs and temple. Evy's hand was clasping onto yours and she beamed when you looked her way. "Oh thank god you're awake!" She then got up, asking you to stay put.
You looked around to see you were propped against your bags and blankets with one across your lap. You were in a man's shirt and you assumed it was one of your friends'. A second later she Evy was back with the two men and another you didnt recognize.
He was the first to go to your side, his face was calculating and he sat next to you his fingers going straight to the buttons on your shirt. "H-hey!" You said, smacking his hand away.
His dark eyes rolled and he tucked a lock of hair behind his ear. "I'm checking your wound," his voice was steady and warm, grounding. You pouted because now you'd embarrassed yourself in front of him.
"What in gods name happened?" Jonathon looked to the ground in shame and rubbed the back of his neck but it was Rick who spoke up. "You got shot, Jonathon came to use for help. The Medjai had made their warning clear so they started to leave but Ardeth, with some convincing, agreed to help us out and treat your wound,"
Had Jonathon told them he was the one to do it? Most troublesome friend indeed.
"This does not mean our warning is any less. O'Connell." Ardeth growled and you shivered. "If Imhotep rises you will all be at fault for the destruction and death that follows.
The room went silent with the weight of his words but you cleared your throat. Your cheeks heated as you looked him in his eyes and you were sure you could get lost in them but he went back to prodding at your shoulder. "Thank you," he simply nodded.
Your friends went off but Ardeth got you knew bandages and you talked to him as he made sure you were going to be okay. He rarely spoke back and you felt disheartened.
"Soon enough it will only be a scar. Your friend may have been careless but it went straight through and missed any bone or arteries. Quite lucky Miss Y/N."
You nodded in response and now he looked a little upset. "Dont fret, you are not in any danger from this at least," was he trying to comfort you?
You blushed and sighed "Thank you Ardeth, your words are comforting. I'm more afraid of what is to come though. My friends are stubborn... I dont think your warning will work.
His jaw tensed but he rested his warm palm against your cheek. "You are probably correct. I too have worries over what hell Imhotep will bring with him if he truly does rise," his statement surprised you almost as much as his sign of affection.
You leaned into his warm hand and he brushed his thumb across your cheek. "I think I like you more than your friends, I wish you well. Stay safe miss Y/N and please try not to get shot again.
"I hope I see you again," you admitted.
His lips quirked up. "Hopefully under different circumstances," and then he was gone.
Rick and Evy were the first up. "He feels really bad Y/N, he probably wont come back for a little bit" she said when you asked why her bother wasnt with her. You supposed he had to get over his guilt, youd forgiven him already, it would make a funny story at least.
The two talked amongst themselves and their flirting masked by bickering nearly killed you so you stared at the miles of sand and you wondered where Ardeth might be at this moment. Nearby of course, or at least you hoped.
"She looks like a love sick puppy," Rick commented to Evy but you didnt seem to notice.

One woman worked multiple jobs and downsized her lifestyle to live out her biggest dream.
In high school, Brooke Schoenman took a trip to Italy with her Latin class. She returned home determined to see more of the world.
I remember being fascinated with how people like me were living in other parts of the world, speaking different languages, she wrote in an email.
And that fascination would stay with her, leading her to take the biggest adventure of her life.
At 23, while working full-time as a help desk agent, Brooke made up her mind she would give herself two years to save enough money to travel the world.
She wasnt just working toward saving for a vacation or two. No, she wanted to spend a minimum of one full year living abroad, fully immersed in other cultures.
So she made a plan: She would cut down on unnecessary expenses. Shed sign up for overtime at work. Shed go out less. Shed take part-time jobs. Shed downsize her lifestyle in every way possible all with the goal of saving up $30,000 in two years to fund her adventure.
It wouldnt be easy saving that much money, but Brooke was determined. And she was fortunate enough to be able to devote as much of her time, money, and energy as she could muster to her ambitious plan.
“There was a time that I would work at my day job from 7:30 am to 4 pm,” she wrote on Making Sense of Cents, “and then head off to do some evening waitressing … from 5 to 10 pm.”
It’s the kind of schedule many people who need to bring in extra cash to cover their financial goals and needs are familiar with.
And it was worth it for her.
I think having a bigger-than-life goal in mind helped, Brooke explains. I was saving for a life-changing experience something so far from what was normal to me and anyone I knew at the time. It was exciting!
Along the way, she celebrated even the smallest victories.
If I took a change jar to the bank and it was twice as much as I thought it would be, I would make a point to celebrate,” Brooke writes, “and sometimes I would allow a little splurge.
The occasional treat was just as important as celebrating the small wins.
“I tried to cut out everything in the beginning, but soon learned that the mental toll of less fun and less freedom to eat out or go to the movies was too much, Brooke writes. You have to budget in some fun money, even when you’re going for a big huge goal.
By doing this, she didnt get overwhelmed by the magnitude of her goal. She remained motivated. (Knowing that you’re not starving yourself of all life’s pleasures is important for any savings goal. It means you can actually stick to your plan instead of burning out too early.)
A year and a half in, Brooke had saved $23,000. She decided that was enough.
Brooke describes herself as someone who hates to wait.” So, she explains, When I started to get close to my fall-back goal of $25,000 (about $23,000 after plane tickets and gear), I decided that starting my life of travel half a year earlier was an acceptable option.”
So, she bought her plane tickets and set off to travel the world.
Traveling was more fulfilling than Brooke could have imagined.
From archeological digs in Menorca, Spain, to watching the jungle wake up at sunrise in Tikal, Guatemala, she pushed herself far beyond her comfort zone and experienced things that many only dream of. She even decided to make Sydney, Australia, her new home.
She’s continued to lean on the tips and tricks she learned during that year and a half to fund other (shorter) adventures, like a three-and-a-half-month trip to Turkey, China, Mongolia, Russia, and Kyrgyzstan.
Today, Brooke’s budgeting isn’t nearly as extreme as it was for her initial goal, but she remains money conscious.
And she’s helping others save too by sharing advice and travel stories on her website: HerPackingList.com. Though her site’s geared toward travelers, her tips are relevant for anyone saving toward a goal. (This calculator is also a big help in figuring out how to reach your savings goals.)
Brooke truly believes that saving up for a big goal is achievable. Though, she adds, saving doesn’t come in a one-size-fits-all package.
Everyone will have different circumstances surrounding their saving process. Maybe the cost of living where they are is higher or maybe they can’t forego hanging with friends at bars and restaurants, Brooke writes. Once you can pinpoint the real reason the saving isn’t working, you can test out alternative strategies and budgets until one works.
Saving is hard. There’s no doubt about it.
And $23,000 is a lot of money. For someone doing their best to just get by, such a large amount in such a short time frame may not always be possible.
But Brooke made the sacrifices she needed to save for the future she envisioned. And her experience shows that with perseverance, goals that seem like dreams can be attainable it just takes patience, planning, and time.
So while your savings goal may not be a trip around the world, securing your financial future is just as exciting. Because while we never know what the future holds, preparing financially helps open some doors. Help make your dreams a reality by setting your financial goals today.
