The Spirit of the Surge
The swirling depths of your
Somber ocean eyes
Haphazardly, harrowingly.
They follow me from coast to coast
Aboard the haunted vessel I forged
From my very own dreams and dread.
With or without you, I believe that I have gone adrift
And vanished into the foamy marine;
The waves thirstily replenishing around me,
Pulling me too far from the waterfront to see
The cerulean gaze that once pierced my cold, soggy
Waterlogged heart.
Each night I've felt your salty breath grace my skin,
Grasping out for me, yet being sundered by the cruel storm.
Thunder reverberating, lightning electrifying the air,
Terror ringing deep into my hollowed-out bones,
Monstrous fear clinging to my choked throat,
Ensnaring ne like the tendrils of a livid kraken.
Just like you, the sea is beautiful.
But, just like you, she is terrible.
Regretfully, she enacts her vengeance.
She sheds her thunderous tears
And they come crashing into me, striking me right through the heart,
Piercing my heavenly vessel.
She begins to sink asunder
Growing further and further away from the shore
Until we are little bit dirt and debris,
Drifting in the cold ocean current.
Until all that remains is the shivering ghost of my love
And the scorching spite of Kymopoleia.
#poetry#nat writes#i wrote this a year ago as an exercise and decided to revamp it#it was written to the song Mulholland Elegy by Doug Spata#the concept is a take on the sailor lost at sea#he went to the sea to escape a scorned lover only to rush into the arms of death in a shipwreck#even if he was far away from her he could still feel her presence in every waking movement#my head cannon is that he was actually just violently ill from like being a sailor because omg#sailors used to have mad health problems#scurvy be like 😀🤮#anyways#I'm very proud of her 🥺🥺#also its meant to have six lines per stanza the formatting was just a bit wonky
