Having a two week break during a tour usually meant resting as much as possible before starting back up. For you though, it meant spending as much time with your boyfriend as possible before you're on the other side of the country.
Staying with Spencer brought normalcy to your life. Paparazzi weren't down your back, people minded their own business, and it was easy to blend in– he brought the calm to the storm that is your life. Today, you were feeling that it was time to get out of the house, and the only motivation that could muster you up out of bed was to potentially visit Spencer.
Y/N: paperwork day??
His response was almost immediate.
Spencer: Yes. There’s not much left to do. I’ll probably be coming home earlier today.
Y/N: awesome!! :) have you had lunch? i can bring you something!
Spencer: I have not. You don't need to come all the way here, I don't want you to feel uncomfortable.
You smiled while reading his messages. He was always considerate of your feelings.
Y/N: noooo, i want to, spence. i want to meet the rest of your team as well…?
It took him longer to reply to this one, and you were scared you crossed an unspoken boundary.
Spencer: They can be a bit much, but as long as you're comfortable I would love for you to meet them.
You smiled, immediately letting him know you'd be there within an hour. It was almost exactly an hour later when you were walking out of the elevator onto his floor, clad with a baseball cap and sweats, holding your joint lunch in one hand and your phone and sunglasses in the other. You could spot Spencer within seconds, and as you got closer to his desk, you heard who you presumed to be his coworker whistle to him.
“Oh, pretty boy, I think there's a special delivery for you…”
Spencer whipped his head up, seeing you lift the brown bag as you continued to walk towards him. He stood up when you got to his desk, and took the bag from your hands, placing it next to the stack of papers before engulfing you in his arms. You– being completely used to this behavior– let out a giggle when you heard a muttered “who is that guy and what has he done to Reid,” coming from a woman off to the side.
You let go after a minute, and turned towards the three people currently standing with you. “Hi, I’m Y/N!” You sweetly smiled at them as they gawked at you, and you felt Spencer’s hand sneak up to your shoulder, giving it a squeeze.
The built man in front you eyed the interaction immediately, and gave a grin as he extended his hand. “Derek Morgan. It's great to finally meet you.”
You shook his hand and turned towards the two women, “Emily,” she too put out her hand for you to shake.
“I’m JJ,” the blonde said as you shifted to look at her. A gasp was heard from across the room, causing everyone to swivel their heads towards the sound, and there stood Penelope.
“Y/N!”
“Penny!” The two of you met in the middle for a hug. “It’s so good to see you.”
“Likewise, pumpkin.” The two of you giggled as the office doors above the bullpen opened up. The chatter below caused two men to make their way down with the rest of the group.
“Y/N, this is Aaron Hotchner and David Rossi,” Spencer said, moving back over to you and slyly placing his arm around your hip. Of course, he wasn't as sly as he intended because everyone on the team clocked the move.
“It’s nice to meet you,” the older man smiled.
“My son loves your music,” Aaron said, causing you to pale as you thought about the very explicit album you recently released, “the radio edits,” he added, noticing the relief flood your face.
You let out a breathy laugh and backed your body into Spencer's instantly melting into his body. “Right, well, I’m really glad I’ve met you all. Any time you want to hang out at a show just say the word. I’d be happy for you to come.”
They all hummed in appreciation, and Spencer gave you a squeeze, “do you want to have lunch?”
Looking back at him, you gave a nod, but before you could move an inch, Penelope spoke up. “Do you want to have lunch all together? The conference room is available and I don't think anyone has taken their lunch yet…”
Staring into Spencer’s eyes, you silently asked him if he was okay with it, and when he gave a subtle nod, you turned to Penelope with a smile. “We would love to! As long as that's okay with everyone?”
Everyone agreed, and you all sat around the round table getting to know each other as you dug into your lunch.
“Okay, I’m sorry, Spence, but I need to know what songs were specifically written about him.”
JJ’s question caused a blush to appear on Spencer’s cheeks and you stifled your laughter. “Um, well… the entire 'favorite’ album is about him.”
“Oh wow, an entire album?” Derek’s words were directed to Spencer, but instead of acknowledging him, he dug back into his sandwich.
A short laugh was released from your lips at the interaction. “Yes, a whole album. The uh, last five songs on my album ‘rebuilding’ are about him too.”
“And any singles?”
You lifted your eyebrows at the eagerness that came from Emily. “‘Espresso’, and 'Unconditionally’, but that one isn't officially out yet for streaming.”
“Wait, go back,” Penelope paused the conversation, “you said the last five songs… so ‘Picture You’ is definitely about Spencer?”
Now you and Spencer were both blushing. Clearing your throat, you looked everywhere but at the people around the table. “I mean… I like for my listeners to think about whoever they want… given the context of the song…” Spencer’s hand went to your knee, inching his hand towards your thigh and rubbing it gently, letting you know you're both in the same boat.
“But you…” Emily started, a small smile creeping onto her face, “thought about… Spencer.”
“Mhmm.” And that was all she was going to say on the matter.
“My man!” Beside Spencer, Derek clasped him on the shoulder and gave him a shake, everyone around you snickering.
As embarrassed as you were, you knew these types of conversations were bound to happen when meeting the people closest to Spencer, so in the end, as long as you had him, it didn't matter how embarrassed you were. For Spencer, it was the same. He understood your world the best to his ability, and he knew you showed your feelings best through your music. So what if he had to deal with a little bullying from his team?

Casual
pairing: Sirius Black x slytherin! potter! reader
parts: 2,
summary: Y/n Potter has been in love with Sirius for as long as she's known him. During their 6th year at Hogwarts, they start hooking up. Sirius declares it casual, but are they both truly ok with this secret?
a/n: hey! this is my first series involving Sirius!. it's on Chappell's song "Casual." hopefully you enjoy it. The reader is James's sister and is friends with most Slytherins.
warnings: smut, angst, secret fwb situationship, jealousy, explicit language
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In this world, love was a blessing. True love, that is. Casual lust and scattered “I love you”s were commonplace at Hogwarts. That’s just how it is; if you place a bunch of teenagers in a huge castle, you’re bound to be lied to. Sirius Black was the main culprit of said lies. He’d tell anyone he’d love them for an hour of relief. Unfortunately, his lie was towards his best friend’s sister. Y/n Potter. She’s in the same year as him, unfortunately, she’s a Slytherin and a Potter. Not to mention, she’d been in love with him for years. Not lust, not attraction, just pure and genuine love for the man.
Her friends called her a fool for falling for it. “The only thing he loves is his reflection, which’ll only last until he’s 20.” She knew they were right. Sirius only told people he loved them to get in their pants, she was no different. The Potter name didn't help her either. Her brother had yet to know, thankfully Remus kept his mouth shut.
She was somewhat different, though, at least from his other hook-ups. She wasn’t a one-night stand. Sirius and her had gone on like a game of hide and seek that never ended. Maybe she was a fool, a loser as Marlene called her, but she doesn't mind. Not when it was her name Sirius was whispering, it was her legs he was in between, it was his bed she was on.
“Fuck… you’re beautiful, Y/n.” he groaned in her ears as his hips hit her own. He kissed her neck and went up her cheeks then her lips, just as he’d done yesterday and the day before. Hitting all the right spots, telling her sweet nothings as the world they knew became one of moans and cries. “All this just for me, love. I feel so special.” The effect this man had, he knew what those words did to the girl. Building her up, literally and figuratively, then tossing her. He always came back, it was the same pattern as always.
Sirius drew her these worlds, so pretty and perfect. Dreaming what life with him could be as he fucked her brains out, only to then have her leave by kissing her goodnight. Soon he came inside her, filling her up with hopes of commitment. “Here,” he offers her his hand as his cock leaves her, she’s now cold and empty once more. She grabbed his hand, guiding her through the empty room and into the bathroom. They showered together; she cleaned his hair the way he liked while he cleaned her body the way she liked. They weren't strangers, even before the arrangement. Sirius is like a brother to James, but he is the universe to Y/n. He held himself as the sun, yet she was a mere human who could only stare at him through rose-tinted glasses. Even now as he caresses the marks he left on her neck, he’s miles away. Soon they get dry,  kiss goodbye, and he says calmly, “No attachments, baby,” then closes the door. She goes down the stairs, past the portrait, hiding from Filch, and then going to her bed. Sound asleep, wearing his shirt and her favorite bottoms, her best bra under his bed with the rest. It’s casual. It always is.
————————
“What’s between you and Sirius? I’ve heard rumors, you know?” Lucius said, a mouthful of eggs nearing his lips. His eyes carried a hint of worry as he ate, never once looking away from the girl.
“Nothing, he’s my brother’s friend. What more could it possibly be?” truthfully, her eyes glistened at the thought. She remembered the night before and knew it was bound to repeat again. She was looking right at the black-haired man, but he sat with his back to her, not even sparing a glance. Her brother waved and smiled as always, unbeknownst to the betrayal, yet his best friend didn’t even look back. He just continued to talk and laugh.
“Well, someone said they saw you leaving his dorm…”
“You can’t  trust Gryffindors, Lucius, you know better.”
The blond shrugs and continues eating. Occasionally he glances between Sirius and Y/n, noticing her pupils fill with love contrary to the frown her mouth holds. “You Potters and your words.” he sighs defeatedly.
The friends moved along, talking about classes, family, their plans for summer, etc. Even after the bell rang, the two moved like a pair of conjoined twins. For once she didn’t notice the holes burning into her friend’s skull by the eyes of a certain member of the Black family.
James swung his hand around the other’s shoulder, “What’re you looking at, mate?”
“Just Slytherins, nothing special.”
“Better not be talking bout my sis.”
“I’d never.”
“Good. I’d have hexed you. Just an older brother thing, you understand.”
  Yet Sirius didn’t understand, at least not when it came to the aching feeling in his chest when he saw those two. They’d been like this since first year, it’s been bothering him since first year. He knew they were friends, and both confirmed it, yet he couldn’t help but feel cheated on. “Yeah, yeah. We’re still on for the Ravenclaw party right?” Sirius looked up at James, quirking his head to the side.
“Of course! Evans is gonna be there, I hope. At least that’s what Y/n/n says, she told me to wear something casual.”
Casual. Of course.

Angel Dust/Anthony x Trans FtM reader Songfic
Warnings: Homophobia/Transphobia, talk of suicide,drugs, alcohol, overdoses.
Chappell Roan currently has my heart with this song and I immediately felt the pull of Angel Dust with it...sooo...I think this'll be so cute 🥰 trust that im working through thr few requests I've got left so feel free to request more fandoms <3
-Writer Icy♡
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Y/n stared out of the window, watching the fields of Tennessee blur past, the early morning sun casting long shadows over the countryside. This town had never felt like home, not truly. Not since they realized who they were—a boy in a body that didn’t quite fit. That discomfort, that gnawing feeling, had always been there, just beneath the surface. But it wasn’t until they met Anthony that everything became clear. Anthony, with his loud laughter, confidence, and unapologetic flamboyance. His bright eyes like neon and his Italian accent that fit his face just right. They had met at a dive bar when Anthony had flown in from LA, all talk of dreams, lights, and big cities.
Y/n had never met anyone like him. Anthony made LA sound like paradise, and the way his eyes sparkled as he spoke about performing made something click inside of them
I know you wanted me to stay
But I can't ignore the crazy visions of me in LA
And I heard that there's a special place
Where boys and girls can all be queens every single day
"You ever thought about leaving this place?" Anthony had asked one night, the two of them sitting on the hood of Y/n’s car, the stars twinkling above them. Y/n had hesitated, then nodded.
"Every day."
"You got that fire, N/n. I see it in you." Anthony had said with a grin, his cigarette dangling from his lips. "You could be anything out there, you know? Come with me to LA. I perform at this club called the Pink Pony Club. It’s a place for people like us, people who don’t fit anywhere else."
Y/n had laughed, a bit incredulous. "You think I could perform? Like… on stage?"
"Hell yeah!" Anthony had punched them lightly in the arm. "I can already see it. We’d tear it up together."
I'm having wicked dreams
Of leaving Tennessee
Hear Santa Monica
I swear it's calling me
Won't make my mama proud
It's gonna cause a scene
She sees her baby girl
I know she's gonna scream
---
Leaving home had been a fight, though. Y/n's mother had found the plane ticket tucked away in their drawer.
"You’re not leaving," her voice was sharp, eyes wide with panic. "What do you think you’re doing, Y/n? Running off with that boy to God knows where?"
God, what have you done?
You're a pink pony girl
And you dance at the club
Oh mama, I'm just having fun
On the stage in my heels
It's where I belong down at the
Y/ had squared their shoulders, heart pounding but resolute. "I’m going to LA, Mom. I’m going to perform with Anthony at the Pink Pony Club."
"That’s not real life!" Her hands flew up in frustration, voice rising. "This isn’t who you are! You’re just confused, Y/n!"
"Confused?" Y/n's voice broke. "You don’t even know who I am! You’ve never listened, not once! I’m not confused—I’m finally figuring it out. I’m leaving."
Tears had welled up in their mother’s eyes, but Y/n had already turned away, grabbing their suitcase. The pain in their chest was sharp, but it was nothing compared to the suffocating life they would have if they stayed. They didn’t look back.
Pink Pony Club
I'm gonna keep on dancing at the
Pink Pony Club
I'm gonna keep on dancing down in
West Hollywood
I'm gonna keep on dancing at the
Pink Pony Club, Pink Pony Club
---
LA was everything Anthony had promised. The lights, the energy, the thrill of the stage—it was a world that Y/n had only ever dreamed about. Performing at the Pink Pony Club became their life, the rush of adrenaline from being on stage filling every void that had once been left empty.
The first night Y/n performed with Anthony, it felt like magic. The two of them danced together, the music pulsing through their veins, lights casting them in a warm, ethereal glow. Y/n had never felt so alive, so seen. On stage, in front of the world, they were exactly who they were meant to be.
I'm up and jaws are on the floor
Lovers in the bathroom and a line outside the door
Black lights and a mirrored disco ball
Every night's another reason why I left it all
As the months passed, the connection between Y/n and Anthony grew stronger. It started with stolen moments backstage, laughing about the wild characters they encountered at the club. It grew into late-night conversations about their dreams, their pasts, their shared pain of feeling like outsiders. Slowly, their friendship turned into something deeper. Something more.
I thank my wicked dreams
A year from Tennessee
Oh, Santa Monica
You've been too good to me
One night, after a particularly electric performance, Y/n found themselves sitting next to Anthony on the rooftop of their tiny apartment. The city stretched out below them, buzzing with life.
"You ever think about what it would be like if it all just stopped?" Anthony asked, staring out at the skyline.
Y/n frowned, glancing over. "What do you mean?"
Anthony shrugged, his usual bravado dimmed, his fingers absently tracing the rim of his drink. "You know, if all the lights went out. If it all just... ended."
Y/n's heart clenched. "Anthony, are you okay?"
Anthony looked at them, his expression softening. "I’m fine, toots. I just think too much sometimes."
Won't make my mama proud
It's gonna cause a scene
She sees her baby girl
I know she's gonna scream
But they knew better. There was a weight to Anthony that hadn’t been there before, and it scared them. With all the partying they did, drugs, drinking...everything had made them wonder…
God, what have you done?
You're a pink pony girl
And you dance at the club
Oh mama, I'm just having fun
On the stage in my heels
It's where I belong down at the
Pink Pony Club
I'm gonna keep on dancing at the
Pink Pony Club
I'm gonna keep on dancing down in
West Hollywood
I'm gonna keep on dancing at the
Pink Pony Club, Pink Pony Club
---
The overdose came suddenly, though, in hindsight, Y/n had seen the signs. The long nights, the pills that became more frequent, the way Anthony’s laughter started to sound hollow.  Y/n had tried to help, but they hadn’t known how. They weren’t enough to save him.
Anthony was gone.
Don't think I've left you all behind
Still love you and Tennessee
You're always on my mind
And mama, every Saturday
I can hear your southern drawl a thousand miles away, saying
The funeral was a blur of pain. Y/n’s world crumbled, and they found themselves back in Tennessee, standing at the doorstep of the home they had once fled. The fight with their mother was inevitable.
"I told you!" she had screamed, her face red with anger. "I told you this wasn’t real! And now look! Look where it’s gotten you! God what have you done?!"
God, what have you done
You're a pink pony girl
And you dance at the club
Oh mama, I'm just having fun
On the stage in my heels
It's where I belong down at the
Y/n had been too numb to argue, the guilt and grief sitting like a stone in their chest. They had felt like an outsider everywhere—LA, Tennessee, and now even in their own skin.
Pink Pony Club
I'm gonna keep on dancing at the
Pink Pony Club
It wasn’t long after that Jade found themselves in the same spiral. They continued preforming but they went harder everytime. Double the alcohol, double the drugs...double the pain. The pain of losing Anthony had been too much, the crushing weight of trying to survive without him too heavy to bear. It was easier to numb it all. To slip away.
And then one day, everything went dark.
When Y/n opened their eyes, they were in Hell. Landed hard on the front steps of some hotel where people were talking.
The irony wasn’t lost on them. Hell was loud, chaotic, filled with the type of characters that would have fit right in at the Pink Pony Club. But amidst the chaos, there was one face they never expected to see again.
Anthony.
I'm gonna keep on dancing down in
West Hollywood
I'm gonna keep on dancing at the
Pink Pony Club, Pink Pony Club
Except now, he wasn’t Anthony. He was Angel Dust, a larger-than-life version of the man Y/n had fallen in love with. It was shocking at first, seeing him again. Y/n’s breath had caught in their throat, their heart racing as Angel dust sauntered over, that familiar smirk on his lips.
"Toots? Is that really you?" Angel asked, voice teasing, but there was something soft in his eyes.
Y/n nodded, too overwhelmed to speak. They couldn’t believe it.
"Well, well," Angel grinned, "guess you really couldn’t stay away from me, huh?"
I'm gonna keep on dancing
And just like that, the years of pain, the grief, the loneliness melted away. They were back together, in Hell of all places, but it didn’t matter. They found a new club, one even better than the Pink Pony Club. The lights were brighter, the crowds wilder, and on stage together, it felt like they had never been apart.
I'm gonna keep on dancing
Y/n and Angel performed night after night, their love for each other rekindling, this time without the weight of the world dragging them down. The bad was still included...but it was dulled. It felt more at home at the end of the night. In Hell, they could be exactly who they were meant to be.
Jukebox January: Day 3
the original post tag of all my posts
Today I'm doing C and Č, since I do have one Č song on the list! (I know there's a special characters day, but I have a different plan for that.)
California - Chappell Roan
I'm pretty sure I cried the first time I listened to this song, and I still cry regularly, because it hits that close to home. If I remember right, this song was written after she got dropped from her label and her partner broke up with her, all in 2020. For me, who had a hard time after graduating and feeling like I'm too old to achieve things (despite the fact I'm only still in my 20s!) it captures the feeling all too well. Also, I'm from the Midwest, and I grew up dreaming of places like California, so the perspective is very relatable to me.
Četri krasti - Prāta Vētra
Outside of Latvia, people may know them as Brainstorm (and as the best from Eurovision 2000, I will take no arguments). They're another favorite band of mine who's been around since the 80s. This particular song is the first on the album they released after their bassist died in 2004, and I think it makes a lot of the lyrics on this album very impactful. Prāta Vētra's lyrics are often layered in metaphors, and I'm always having to interpret them in a language I'm learning, but this one is particularly inspiring to me.
Carpe Diem - Joker Out
Could I really not put this one in, considering how much this band has become part of my life in the past half a year or so? Actually, while I enjoyed this song at Eurovision, I didn't vote for it--I voted for Latvia in the semifinal and Croatia and Finland in the final. The song that really got me into Joker Out, that'll be for tomorrow. I do have to say, though, my favorite things about Carpe Diem are the bassline and the structure of the song. In Eurovision, with the time limit of 3 minutes, I think it's hard to make songs that don't follow the exact "standard pop song" structure, but here we have two verses that are quite different, the guitar solo closer to the beginning than the end, and it even comes in 14 seconds under the time limit. I like it, I think it flows nicely.
Control - Poe
This song comes from one of my favorite albums in the world, which sadly kind of disappeared into obscurity because of some record label merger which resulted in Poe being dropped, losing all distribution of her album, and getting tied up in court over a bunch of things that happened around this. It's sad, because this is an artistically incredible album, with the songs woven with recordings of her father and young daughter speaking. It also ties in with the novel House of Leaves, which her brother wrote (though I've never read it, so I can't speak much about it). This song is so powerful and inspiring. I think my favorite lines are "All those things that you taught me to fear/I've got them in my garden now and you're not welcome here".
A couple more under the cut!
Champion - Fall Out Boy
When I want to feel better, this is one of the songs I reach for. "I'm a champion of the people who don't believe in champions" is the line that stood out to me from the first time I heard this song. I know Sia co-wrote this one, too. I have a complex relationship with Sia's music because some of her songs were really inspirational to me, but she's done some questionable things in recent years. Still, a song that feels good and gets me feeling inspired.
Crawl Out Through the Fallout - Sheldon Allman
Okay, so here's where I reveal my love for the Fallout games' lore. I've actually only played Fallout 4 (I have New Vegas too, but haven't played it yet). But I've always been fascinated by the duality of how nuclear technology is portrayed in society and media, how it's both futuristic and apocalyptic. So that's why I really love the Fallout soundtracks (and some other similar songs, which might pop up later.)
My Queer Playlist - Part 4
This is my playlist from 2020 to Present
2020 - She : Hayley Kiyoko - This is about Kiyoko’s struggles when she was coming into her own as a young, gay, aspiring pop-star.
2020 - L.O.V.E. Me : Hayley Kiyoko - Kiyoko sings that she wants someone who is honest with her and will have her back the way that Hayley would have their back. So girl don't tell me you love me if you don't really want me. I'm working through my issues, yeah, I'm gonna kiss you
2020 - Boss Bitch : Doja Cat - Doja has had boyfriends and girlfriends and describes her sexuality as fluid. This fierce song is of female empowerment and being your own love. A Boss Bitch is the she-ro of her own story. She takes charge of her future and embraces being a “boss” in all aspects of her life. To “shine like gloss” is to excel in a noticeable way. I'm a bitch and a boss, I'ma shine like gloss. The song charted again in 2023 thanks to being featured in an iconic lip sync on RuPaul’s Drag Race
2020 - Physical : Dua Lipa - The song is about sexual liberation. The video begins with first red, then moving to purple, yellow, blue, and so forth, as Dua leads every color of the rainbow into a spectacular dance groove.
2020 - I am Gay : Liza Vassilieva - While other similar songs are often packed in metaphors, this one is quite direct, which I think makes it unique. I am gay (Gay). Doesn't matter what you do or say (Say). So excuse me if I sound cliché (Ché). I just wanna be myself. Every second, every hour, every day, ‘cause I am gay (Gay)
2020 - Chasing Rainbows : Big Freedia feat. Kesha - Freedia lists the various ways she's been put down throughout her life by schoolyard bullies, religious figures, and record labels. Kesha makes clear we won't be put down any longer when she sings You know me, bein' free. Won't be silent, I pray for my enemies. The video has Freedia using a jar of love to make a potion, then gets lifted into the sky by a rainbow where she meets up with Kesha and begins spreading their message.
2020 - I’m that Bitch : RuPaul - 'I'm That Bitch' is a powerful declaration of self-confidence and empowerment by RuPaul who declares herself the Queen of Drag.
2020 - Kings & Queens : Ava Max - Ava told Paper magazine the song “Kings and Queens" is an anthem for all queens — girls & gays — ready to take over the world, because we would have a better world if queens took over. Billboard declared this the "unofficial anthem of the parade-free 2020 Pride season" when the world was in lockdown during the COVID-19 pandemic.
2020 - Pink Pony Club : Chappell Roan - Chappell is from a small conservative town in Missouri where she kept her gay identity under wraps. She wrote this song about that period, about wanting to escape from a life that didn’t quite fit. She dreamed of going to California, which she thought of as more accepting and glamorous, where she would become a go-go dancer. Dancing at a gay bar (which in the song she has named the Pink Pony Club) would mean being surrounding by glitter and acceptance and be a place where her true self could take center stage. I heard that there's a special place where boys and girls can all be queens every single day
2020 - I’m Ready : Sam Smith & Demi Lovato - The song is about being ready to risk it all for a new love. As members of the LGBTQ community, Smith and Lovato are familiar with how shamelessly loving who you want to love is inherently a risk in a society that doesn’t fully accept queer relationships. But on this song, the two declare that they’re up for the challenge, and ready to reap love’s rewards. The video is basically the Glam Olympics
2020 - Secret Lover : Yuma X -  The lyrics talk about how hard it is to have a secret lover and not be able to talk with them in public, and counting down the nights until they’re back together again. In the video, two couples go away together and the boys fall for each other while the girls get suspicious of the growing bond.
2020 - I am America : Shea Diamond - This theme song for HBO's We're Here (a show where drag queens travel the USA doing makeovers while sharing life lessons), declares we're here and just as American as cherry pie
2020 - Malibu : Kim Petras - Kim is a trans woman who released a virtual pool party during the COVID-19 pandemic that includes cameos by queer icons Demi Lovato, Jonathan Van Ness, Todrick Hall, Pabllo Vittar, Jessie J, Scott Hoying, Aquaria, Nikita Dragun, Amanda Lepore, Dorian Electra, Bowen Yang, Slayyyter, and Teddy Quinlivan
2020 - Dance Alone : Tayla Parx - Tayla wrote "Dance Alone" about the night she met her girlfriend. I don't wanna dance alone. I'm not ready to go home. Not until the lights come on. So meet me right here
2020 - Be Me : Vincent - Gay singer Vincent recorded this song for Season 5 of Queer Eye on Netflix. Was hiding away. For a minute I was thinking that I couldn’t be saved. But just like a prayer you were right there.
2020 - Rain on Me : Lady Gaga & Ariana Grande - Put two of the biggest pop icons together and of course you’ll get a song that everyone is clamoring for. The message is of persevering through troubles and embracing the pain. It’s a fierce message of being strong and getting through the hard times. “Rain on me” is like saying “bring it on.” I'd rather be dry, but at least I'm alive. Rain on me, rain, rain
2020 - Bring Back My Girls : RuPaul - Fun song based on one of the catchphrases of RuPaul’s Drag Race
2020 - Freedom : Tommy Atkins - This song was originally released by Wham! in 1984 and is about wanting to commit to someone, to be exclusive, to not want the freedom of being able to see other people...and the other person not wanting that. Tommy Atkins changed the “girl” to “boy” in the line boy, all I really want is you to make it a gay couple. George Michael wasn’t out in the 1980′s but I can imagine if he were, this is how he would’ve written the lyrics. Atkins’ recording reached the top 5 on download charts across the U.K., Canada and New Zealand. The recording made history, becoming the first country hit in the U.K. and Europe to feature overtly gay lyrics.
2020 - Somebody to Tell Me : Tyler Glenn - This is the theme song for the Hulu show Love, Victor, which is about a gay teen coming out. The lyrics of this song are amazing. It begins with someone in the closet and scared their secret will slip out. 'Cause I've been talking secrets into the mirror. Never ever more than a whisper. Lips airtight. Scared when I sleep at night that my subconscious take over and let out everything I don't wanna fall out, yeah. What they need is for Somebody to tell me it will be alright, somebody to tell me it will be just fine
2020 - Mood Ring (By Demand) (Pride Remix) : Britney Spears - The song was originally only released in Japan in 2016 and has Britney comparing her up-and-down roller coaster love to a mood ring. Fans found it and for years pleaded for it to be made available for streaming platforms. In a surprise move, Britney gave it a “Pride remix” and released it in 2020 during Pride month.
2020 - Smalltown Boy : Orville Peck - Orville recorded this cover of the 1984 song by Bronski Beat and released it during Pride month. The song is about a young gay man who leaves his hometown due to intolerance and persecution in search of acceptance and liberation in the city.
2020 - Hallucinate : Dua Lipa - This is about feeling so attracted to someone that it feels like you’re hallucinating. The video has a cartoon Dua Lipa hallucinating rainbows & pan-colored rainbows and it is very trippy.
2020 - Easy : Troye Sivan & Kacey Musgraves feat. Mark Ronson - This is a song about trying to salvage a dying relationship. Sivan sings of how being in love with his partner was easy and begs him to please don't leave me. The track was allegedly written about Sivan's breakup with American model and photographer Jacob Bixenman, whom he had dated from 2016 to 2020.
2020 - Head and Heart : Joel Corry feat. MNEK - Joel Corry is singing his inner turmoil after meeting someone who might not be good for him. His head is telling him to stop, but his heart is certain it's more than a crush. There’s no gendered pronouns in this song, so he could be singing about a girl or a guy or someone who doesn’t fit the binary.
2020 - Say Something : Kylie Minogue - In this video, Kylie gives the gays everything they want: horses, stars, shirtless male dancers, glitter, and glamor.
2020 - Midnight Sky : Miley Cyrus - Miley says this song is a message of freedom and empowerment, that people should create the environment that they want to live in. This song also references the end of Miley’s marriage to Liam Hemsworth (Lotta years went by with my hands tied up in your ropes. Forever and ever, no more) and her subsequent relationships with Kaitlynn Carter (See my lips on her mouth, everybody's talking now) and Cody Simpson (Said it ain't so bad if I wanna make a couple mistakes. You should know right now that I never stay put in one place). Talk about pansexual realness.
2020 - betty : Taylor Swift - The song is about someone who’s in love with Betty but sees her dancing with a man. This song captures those feelings of being queer and closeted, not knowing if the person you’re crushing on will have you because you don’t know if she’s even into girls.
2020 - Be Alright : MKSM - MKSM is openly gay and views himself as a voice for all people who feel they don’t belong. This video captures some nice vignettes of a relationship between 2 women. The song lyrics are about accepting yourself and your relationship as it is, it doesn’t need to be perfect. Dance with our issues, won’t try to fix them, trusting we’ll be alright. And Remember the time when we were enough, there’s nothing to prove, it’s just me and you.
2020 - Diamonds : Sam Smith - Poor Sam, they’ve had a bad string of relationships which get turned into songs. This time their lover turns out to be a gold digger who leaves after getting what he wants. Sam refuses to give into heartbreak, defiantly dancing even if while crying.
2020 - Magic : Kylie Minogue - The song is a hopeful message of a brighter future, and that in every tragedy there is comfort to be had. Focus tonight on dancing and let tomorrow worry about itself.
2020 - High Heels : Mel C - The former Spice Girl has been an outspoken ally of the queer community. Mel C spent a year touring the world with Sink the Pink, a group of drag performers. “High Heels” was inspired by her time with the drag performers, who are featured in the glittery music video. The song is about an amazing night out dancing. The lyrics include the self-love mantra You gotta love yourself above anybody else.
2020 - positions : Ariana Grande - The lyrics talk about being able to change positions for your man, which got a lot of attention in the gay world. Many times gays are classified as ‘tops’ or ‘bottoms,’ while many, perhaps even most, are ‘vers,’ and the lyrics of the chorus can be seen as supporting this. The video shows the versatility of women as Grande is President of the United States while having time to make dinner. For her Presidential Cabinet of advisors, Grande brought some queer friends--Tyler Ford, Misha Lambert, Victoria Monet, and Tayla Parx. Whether it’s gender roles or bedroom fun, we shouldn’t limit what positions someone can perform
2020 - Kids Again : Sam Smith - Sam is reminiscing on a past relationship, one he’s not exactly gotten over. Sam recalls all the fun moments they shared and thinks about what if they could go back in time to restore the relationship. Knowing time travel is an impossibility, Sam concludes they can’t live in the past when they were seemed like kids.
2020 - Man’s World : Marina - This song is about how the world is designed by men for men, and whoever doesn’t fit the traditional manly standards is out, including women, LGBTQ+ individuals, and even Mother Nature. This has been going on since at least the Salem witch trials. Burnt me at the stake, you thought I was a witch centuries ago, now you just call me a bitch. Marina criticizes the Sultan of Brunei and mentions the Beverly Hills Hotel, which he owns. Owned by a sheik who killed thousands of gay men, I guess that's why he bought the Campest Hotel in LA then.
2020 - Prisoner : Miley Cyrus feat. Dua Lipa - It’s a song about being in controlling relationships where their lovers manipulate them to stay, which makes them feel like prisoners. In the video, Cyrus and Lipa are dancing and smoking together, grinding on and licking each other's bodies and singing the song's chorus face to face. When they eat cherries, it suggests they want to leave their manipulative male lovers to be with each other.
2020 - My Head & My Heart : Ava Max - The song is about Ava’s ex-boyfriend, should she return to him or not? Her heart says yes, her head says no. The video supports Mermaids, a UK-wide charity working to support transgender, nonbinary and gender-diverse children, young people, and their families. Drag queen Bimini Bon Boulash lip syncs & dances in the video.
2020 - Lucid : Rina Sawayama - Rina sings about a dream girl she is fantasizing about. Hey girl, you are what I've been dreaming of, oh
2020 - Break Up Bye Bye : Frock Destroyers - From the first season of RuPaul's Drag Race UK, contestants Baga Chipz, Blu Hydrangea and Divina de Campo wrote their own verses and performed this song. The group name is a play on the name of the band The Cock Destroyers.
2021 - Condragulations : RuPaul - This song is based on a catch phrase from the show RuPaul’s Drag Race
2021 - Treat People with Kindness : Harry Styles - The sexually ambiguous icon released a song with a message much needed in this time of hyper-partisanship. Harry released a line of merchandise using the song title in celebration of Pride Month. While the song’s message isn’t deep or complex, who can disagree that all people should be treated the same regardless of gender, race or sexual preference?
2021 - Undivided : Tim McGraw & Tyler Hubbard - The message is to abandon black-and-white thinking and to be more accepting of others. The first stanza hits me, while it can apply to a wide number of things, it seems especially applicable to a queer kid getting picked on. See Billy got picked on in school for things he couldn't change. He tried his best to play it cool but in the seventh grade you either fit right in or you don't fit, that's just the cold hard truth. I wish that I'd have been the friend that Billy never knew
2021 - It’s a Sin : Years & Years - A beautiful cover of the 1987 Pet Shop Boys’ song. The song was released at the same time as HBO’s 5-episode show It’s a Sin, which included Olly Alexander, lead singer of Years & Years, and is about a group of friends who move to London in 1981 and how their lives were impacted by HIV/AIDS. A portion of the proceeds from the song went to the George House Trust charity which provides HIV support, advice and advocacy services.
2021 - Girlfriend : Rebecca Black - An unapologetically lesbian anthem about wanting to reunite with an ex-girlfriend despite others’ dissenting opinions. The glitter-filled video has Rebecca reuniting with an ex at a picnic.
2021 - UK Hun? : United Kingdolls - In season 2 of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK, the drag queens Lawrence Chaney, A'Whora, Bimini Bon-Boulash, and Tayce formed the group called United Kingdolls. They wrote and recorded their own verses to the song, which was released and climbed to #27 on the UK Singles chart.
2021 - Fan Behavior : Isaac Dunbar - Openly gay singer Isaac sings this song about the unexpected pleasure the singer gets from an obsessive fan’s attention as it feeds his sense of self-worth.
2021 - Agatha All Along : Kathryn Hahn - From the Disney+ show WandaVision, this delightful song was popular in the gay community. This song comes on when we learn Agatha is a witch. Witches in television and film have long been popular with queer people because witches can pass in society as non-magical people, but when their true selves are found out they become the victims of a witch hunt.
2021 - Serotonin : Girl in Red - Marie Ulven Ringheim is the Girl in Red and is a queer icon. Serotonin is a hormone which regulates our feelings of internal happiness. Marie shares that she has a deficiency and deals with depression but takes medicine. I'm running low on serotonin. Chemical imbalance got me twisting things. Stabilize with medicine. Her transparency in this song about her struggles with mental health helps listeners with their own personal mental health challenges by letting them know they’re not the only ones. CW: self harm. This song’s lyrics includes intrusive thoughts where she considers self-harm and even suicide.
2021 - CINDERELLA Pt. 2 : CHIKA - No Prince Charming here, Chika is wooing Cinderella, who is a step up from the girls Chika usually hangs with. Something about you is different. You're all that I'm missing. I'm thinking about making you mine
2021 - Queen of the North : Brooke Lynn Hytes feat. Priyanka - Brooke Lynn was the first Canadian drag queen to compete on RuPaul’s Drag Race and was dubbed “Queen of the North.” Brooke Lynn continues to use this title as host of RuPaul’s Drag Race Canada, she included the first winner of that show, Priyanka, on this song.
2021 - MONTERO (Call Me by Your Name) : Lil Nas X - To all those people who told Lil Nas X he was going to hell for being gay, he gave them what they wanted in this video, and of course the same people then complained.
The video is composed of three acts. The first act takes place in the Garden of Eden where Lil Nas is tempted into sin by a snake. After Lil Nas’ character gives in, the camera pans toward the tree of knowledge, which is inscribed with a Greek phrase that translates “After the division the two parts of man, each desiring his other half.” The phrase is taken from Plato’s Symposium which recounts a story in which humans were originally two bodies stuck together—some man & man, some woman & woman, and some man & woman. When the bodies were separated by an angry Zeus, each longed for their other half—which explains why we feel love and desire for other people and our different orientations.
Act 2 of the video begins in the Colosseum where Lil Nas emerges shackled and wearing a Marie Antoinette-like wig. When Lil Nas starts to ascend to heaven, he is not greeted by St. Peter, but by the Greek mythological figure Ganymede, who has long been a symbol of homosexuality
Act 3, before Lil Nas can reach Ganymede, a pole emerges from below; Lil Nas’ fingers curl around it, and he sails downward to hell. As Lil Nas walks up to the Devil on his throne, he passes a phrase in Latin that states, “They condemn what they do not understand.” The narrative here is that in ancient religions different sexual orientations were okay, but before Ganymede could welcome Lil Nas to heaven, Christianity takes over. However, Lil Nas brilliantly uses his queerness to subvert oppressive systems as he defeats the Devil. He was condemned to hell but he is thriving.
2021 - My Girlfriends are my Boyfriend : Demi Lovato - A fun, upbeat dedication to Lovato's friends, her support system, who stay with her after a breakup or anything else that happens in her life. It’s very easy to read this song as instead of a boyfriend, now she has girlfriends.
2021 - Starstruck : Years & Years - Starstruck is about the rush you get when you’re with somebody you’re really into, it’s about holding onto a good feeling and not letting it go.
2021 - Lucky : RuPaul feat. Gottmik, Kandy Muse, Rosé, & Symone - the 4 finalists of RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 13 wrote lyrics and performed this fun song.
2021 - Chosen Family : Rina Sawayama & Elton John - Rina Sawayama, who identifies as both bisexual and pansexual, teamed up with gay icon Elton John for this song. The concept is that in the queer community, family isn’t always the people who share your last name, it’s those you surround yourself with and who support you.
2021 - Kind of Lover I Am : Demi Lovato : Pansexual Demi sings, That's the kind of lover I am. Doesn't matter you're a woman or a man, that's the kind of lover I am (Lover that I am). You can safely put your heart in my hands.
2021 - Confetti : Little Mix feat. Saweetie - The video includes three Drag Queens, and the three women of Little Mix showcasing their own Drag King personas
2021 - Feel Something : Joshua Bassett - He is known for starring in Disney Channel’s High School Musical: The Musical. Joshua came out as gay in May 2021 and later released this song about people who feel numb and want to feel something. Queer people who are in the closet and suppressing who they are can feel numb, and coming out can be the beginning of no longer suppressing those feelings so that you feel something.
2021 - Got No Choice : Brooke Eden - In 2015, Brooke was preparing for a tour when she fell in love. When she told others the good news, she was warned to keep this a secret or it could ruin her newly-begun career. She followed their advice, but in 2021 Brooke came out publicly as gay, got engaged to her girlfriend (the one she fell in love with in 2015), and released this song where she sings of having no choice but to fall in love with her partner. The video features Brooke and her girlfriend and ends with the words As happy as we are now, it wasn’t always sunshine and rainbows. If you’re not there yet, it’s ok — you’re not alone! and this is followed with contact info for The Trevor Project
2021 - It’s a Sin : Elton John and Years & Years - This arrangement of the 1987 song by the Pet Shop Boys was recorded by the gay icons Elton John and Years & Years for the 2021 Brit Awards. The words are about a person’s lifelong feelings of shame and guilt for being taught that being gay is a sin. It was released as a single with proceeds going to the Elton John AIDS Foundation
2021 - Sun Goes Down : Lil Nas X - Lil Nas says he named the song “sun goes down” because it’s at night when those thoughts you try to avoid really start to hit and you can’t escape them. He sings of wanting to run away, and of feeling lonely, about depression, and suicidal thoughts. In the music video, we watch the singer return to scenes from high school, like working at Taco Bell and praying by his bed. We also watch him go to prom alone where he has a cry in the bathroom as he realizes just how lonely he is. After a bit he emerges feeling changed, and finds himself getting into the music and becoming the center of attention.
2021 - Romeo : Bryce Xavier - Bryce emotionally writes about having a romance you can’t reveal publicly and the pain which comes with that.
2021 - Boy Bi : Mad Tsai - Super cute song about the internal struggle of coming to terms with being bi. I love this lyric: Like I'm watching a Disney movie and the couple gets it on, but who should I look at, is it Shang or Mulan?
2021 - Judas : Big Freedia - Big Freedia identifies as gay, gender nonconforming, genderfluid, and nonbinary and gives this Lady Gaga song a bounce music makeover. The song is about always falling in love with the wrong type of man, and is a metaphor about learning to forgive yourself in order to move on with your life.
2021 - Chance : Hayley Kiyoko - Hayley is singing about how she should have taken chances, there are lost opportunities because she didn’t give it a shot. Cuz I never let her take a chance, let her take a chance on me. The video shows what happens when you do take a chance and portrays those early parts of a relationship when you’re head-over-heels for someone
2021 - Boys who like Boys : Eli Lieb - Eli sings these words against the anti-gay people who have a problem with boys who like boys. Maybe we just want a little love...Go keep on hating, I'll just keep dancing
2021 - Born this Way (The Country Road Version) : Orville Peck - For the 10th anniversary of this iconic song, gay singer Orville gives it a country music makeover
2021 - Something to Say : Michaela Jaé - This is Michaela’s debut single. My favorite lyric from the song is It’s Black and Brown and Yellow and White. Let’s stand for something. Love tonight. Michaela rose to fame on the FX series Pose as Blanca Evangelista, an HIV-positive trans woman, and the founder and mother of the House of Evangelista in New York City's ballroom culture, and Michaela became the first transgender actress to be nominated for the Critics' Choice Television Award for Best Actress in a Drama Series.
2021 - Younger Me : Brothers Osborne - In February 2021, singer-guitarist TJ Osborne came out as gay. The announcement instantly made Osborne the most visible gay man in country music. TJ wrote the song “Younger Me” about his experience of coming to terms with his sexuality. The lyrics look back at the difficulty of being different but also assuring his younger self that it’ll be alright. Younger me, hanging out but not quite fitting in. Didn't know that being different really wouldn't be the end.
2021 - Marry the Night : Kylie Minogue - For the 10-year anniversary of her blockbuster album Born that Way, Lady Gaga chose several artists representative of the LGBT community to make covers of some of the songs. While Kylie isn’t queer, she’s well-loved by the gay community for her allyship and her danceable pop music. Minogue contributes her sparkly pop sound to the lyrics about loving of the nightlife and partying
2021 - She Said : Fletcher - The singer was innocently flirting with a girl at a party and it became a wild sexual encounter. She said, "Let's do something different" "I'll show you a good time" I could tell she meant it. She said, "Here's what you've been missin'" Oh, she opened my eyes. Ooh, she hit it different
2021 - I’m a Winner, Baby : RuPaul - Another song by RuPaul that was featured in his hit television show RuPaul’s Drag Race
2021 - The Edge of Glory : Years & Years - Olly Alexander sings this Lady Gaga song about celebrating someone’s life just as they are.
2021 - Yoü and I : Ben Platt - Ben, who is best known for his role as the lead in the musical Evan Hanson, sings this Gaga song about walking from New York City to Nebraska to get your boyfriend back.
2021 Come Through feat. Lemon : Priyanka - Priyanka, first winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race Canada, teams up with her fellow Canadian drag queen to sing this song about not staying in a relationship that isn’t good for you and holds you back. I'm here to slay, don't got all day, I gotta wipe you away
2021 - Industry Baby : Lil Nas X - In the video, Nas loses a court case and goes to jail where he has a lot of sex. He takes what seems like a punishment and turns it on its head and says, “What if I actually had the best time?” We have people like Sam Smith and Troye Sivan who make their queer identity part of their art, but what Lil Nas does is he makes queer sexuality a part of his persona. Like Madonna who forced people to deal with women’s sexuality, Lil Nas X is doing the same with queer sexuality.
2021 - Goodbye : LP - Lesbian singer LP’s song contains the gentle reminder to release the things that no longer serve us.
2021 - Movin’ : David Archuleta - David came out publicly in June of 2021. A month later he released the song Movin’. There’s two versions, the regular version and the “After Hours” version. The video is a mashup of the two versions, and it’s interesting that the first minute of the video contains 3 men and 3 women, but then in the “After Hours” portion it is just David and the 2 male dancers.
2021 - Cold Heart (PNAU Remix) : Elton John feat. Dua Lipa - Elton John & Dua Lipa sing a song composed of 4 of Elton‘s past singles: “Rocket Man,” “Sacrifice,” “Kiss the Bride,” and “Where’s the Shoorah?”
2021 - Future Starts Now : Kim Petras - Petras, the first transgender performer at the MTV VMA awards, explains this song is “a metaphor for life: things are going to change whether you want them to or not and you can either roll with it and make the best out of it or let it drown you.” The video has it rain so much it floods everything and we see the Eiffel Tower sticking out of the water, and at the end of the video the tower collapses, and Petras appears on the wreckage to welcome a new future
2021 - Silk Chiffon : MUNA feat. Phoebe Bridgers - We have many songs about longing and heartbreak, it’s refreshing to have one about queer love and joy. Life’s so fun, don’t need to worry about no one. She said that I got her if I want. She’s so soft like silk chiffon.
2021 - Angel Baby : Troye Sivan - This is a very sweet love song (queer people need more of these). Troye sings he was giving up on love when you came out the blue on a rainy night, no lie. And now I just wanna live in this moment forever, 'cause I'm afraid that living couldn't get any better. Started giving up on the word "forever," until you gave up heaven so we could be together. By saying ‘you gave up heaven,’ he acknowledges his lover sacrificed a lot to be with him (and is probably a reference to religious teachings that gay love leads to Hell), and Troye declares him his angel baby.
2021 - That’s What I Want : Lil Nas X - This is a song of gay longing. Lil Nas is lonely and wants someone to love him. The video is steamy, he finds someone to love and the love turns physical right away.
2021 - Jolene : Lil Nas X - While at BBC Radio 1, Lil Nas performed Dolly Parton’s 1973 hit song. Having Lil Nas sing this changes the whole feel of the song. It’s a man begging Jolene to not tempt my man, don’t take him away from me. Lil Nas should release this as a single!
2021 - Rise : Calum Scott - This song is inspired by Calum’s own coming out experience and is about how no matter how difficult things seem now, we will rise. For every valley, there's a mountain. For every answer, there's a new question. Is it worth all this? I'm pushing myself to the edge. 'Cause we're all looking for a reason. Find a shelter from the storm within
2021 - Cherry : FLETCHER & Hayley Kiyoko - Lesbian Jesus, aka Hayley Kiyoko, and Queer Queen FLETCHER team up for this flirtatious queer bop. The video has the pair in a love triangle, they’re both dating the same girl, but they don’t know until they show up at her door at the same time. Instead of fighting over her, they both head inside with her.
2021 - Coconuts : Kim Petras - The song is an ode to self-love and body positivity by celebrating the singer’s ‘coconuts,’ aka her breasts, by using all sorts of metaphors to describe them, such as piña coladas, ripe mangoes, hot air balloons, and the Olsen twins.
2021 - Catwalk : RuPaul feat. Skeltal Ki - RuPaul continues to put out catchy singles , this one about walking down the runway.
2021 - Y’all Means All : Miranda Lambert - Lambert released this song in support of the LGBTQ community. The song was used in the trailer for the sixth season Queer Eye on Netflix. You can be born in Tyler, Texas, raised with the Bible Belt. If you're torn between the Y's and X's, you ain't gotta play with the hand you're dealt. Yes queen, go queen, dip it like a Dairy Queen. Put your inhibitions in a big U-Haul
2022 - Living My Life in London (feat. The Cast of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK vs The World : RuPaul - This song features each of the contestants who’ve gone to London to compete in this new television spinoff
2022 - C’mon Baby, Cry : Orville Peck - The song opens with a recognition of the sadness in someone's eyes. Peck acknowledges the common saying that it's darkest before the dawn, but he points out that the person has been smiling for so long, masking their true feelings. This sets the stage for the central message of the song: it's okay to cry. Throughout the song, Peck draws parallels between his own sadness and that of the listener, creating a sense of shared experience and understanding. He reassures the listener that they are not alone in their pain and that it's important to acknowledge and express your emotions.
2022 - Boyfriend : Dove Cameron - You should replace your boyfriend with me, that’s the message that Cameron sings to the woman she’s interested in. Thinking I'm gonna steal you from him. I could be such a gentleman. Plus all my clothes would fit. I could be a better boyfriend.
2022 - About Damn Time : Lizzo - In a minute I'ma need a sentimental man or woman to pump me up, talk about bisexual realness
2022 - Love Me More : Sam Smith - Have you ever felt like being somebody else? Feeling like the mirror isn't good for your health? Every day I'm trying not to hate myself, but lately, it's not hurting like it did before. Maybe I am learning how to love me more. Wow, these lyrics of learning to embrace ourselves unconditionally, that’s so relatable.
2022 - No One Dies from Love : Tove Lo - The chorus says No one dies from love, guess I’ll be the first, as a way of showing the weight of the loss she’s experiencing in her heartbreak. In the video, Annie 3000, a humanoid robot, plays Tove Lo's love interest. After Tove Lo lets the cyborg develop human feelings for her, she cruelly dumps it for a newer machine but Annie 3000 isn’t ready to be replaced.
2022 - This Hell : Rina Sawayama - Rina, who is pansexual, wrote this in response to the attacks against LGBTQ people based on religious beliefs. The opening stanza of the song is fire. Saw a poster on the corner opposite the motel. Turns out, I'm going to hell if I keep on being myself. Don't know what I did, but they seem pretty mad about it. God hates us? Alright then, buckle up, at dawn we're riding
2022 - For the Girls : Hayley Kiyoko - This video is a parody of The Bachelorette with all the drama that you’d expect. Hayley is the Bachelorette, and Becca Tilley (she was the runner-up contestant on the 19th season of The Bachelor) appears at the end of the video to win over Hayley. Following the release of the music video, Kiyoko revealed she’s been in a relationship with Becca Tilley for four years. Watching this video has me asking could we get a women-only Bachelorette show? How is this not a thing already???
2022 - Team Queen : Betty Who - This cute song was written for the Discover+ show The Book of Queer.
2022 - Girls Make Me Wanna Die : The Aces - “‘Girls Make Me Wanna Die’ is a nostalgic call back to our adolescence and shared experience of being young, queer, and painfully in love with your best friend,” explained The Aces, a group who grew up in Provo, UT. On a beautiful Sunday, we're laying in sun rays. She's wearing my beat-up jean jacket so damn well. One swipe of a finger, she leaves and I linger. She's killing me with desire for someone else
2022 - Boys in the Street : Calum Scott - A dad rejects his son who comes out gay, How am I gonna answer when my friends tell me my son was kissing boys in the street? With time, dad accepts that his son is still part of the family and in the end his dad learns to love his son without reservation.
2022 - Break My Soul : Beyoncé - The album was dedicated to Beyoncé’s gay uncle and this song is a self-empowerment anthem and an ode to the Black, queer community. The song inspires us to fall in love and release ourselves from the stress of the hate around us
2022 - What I Want : MUNA - In a world that’s too quick to tell us that queer desires are wrong, MUNA is here to say There’s nothing wrong with what I want. What is it that MUNA wants? Too many shots, some good drugs, and finding a crush on the dance floor in a gay bar. This line is so reflective of the queer experience: I’ve spent way too-too-too many years not knowing what. What I wanted, how to get it, how to live it. And now I’m gonna make up for it all at once
2022 - Bad Habit : Steve Lacy - Lacy identifies as bisexual and sings of his regrets of not having made a move on someone, but by the end of the song the two of them get to explore their mutual attraction.
2022 - Tongue : Rêve - This song has a great electronic sound that feels like it’s right from the club. The lyrics are about Rêve’s attraction to a woman who is skilled in using her tongue, if you follow what I mean. Everybody says she’s a cunning linguist.
2022 - Everybody’s Gay : Lizzo - Everybody's gay, Lizzo said so. This song is about dancing in a queer bar surrounded by LGBTQuties of every gender and how she feels safe there without all the straight men hitting on her. Everybody’s gay, yeah (It’s a happy place in here, baby, you’re safe).
2022 - Becky’s So Hot : Fletcher - Fletcher wrote this song about her messy feelings towards the current girlfriend of her ex. Fletcher can admire that she’s beautiful, but is also angry at her even though it’s her ex who she should be angry at. Are you in love like we were? If I were you, I'd probably keep her. Makes me wanna hit her when I see her 'cause Becky's so hot in your vintage t-shirt
2022 - Cozy : Beyoncé - Beyoncé’s Renaissance album is a love letter to the Black LGBTQ+ community. This song was produced by Honey Dijon, a legendary trans DJ, and throughout the track are excerpts from trans activist and performer TS Madison. The song’s lyrics are about self-love, self-empowerment, and trans empowerment. Beyoncé makes a reference to the Progress Pride flag in the lyrics with each color being mentioned. Black like love too deep, dance to the soles of my feet. Green eyes envy me. Paint the world pussy pink. Blue like the soul I crowned. Purple drank and couture gowns. Gold fangs a shade God made. Blue, black, white and brown, paint the town red like cinnamon. Yellow diamonds, limoncello glisterin'. Rainbow gelato in the streets. Renaissance, yachtin' in Capri. Karla Rodriguez wrote a review where she said the song "feels like someone is speaking affirmations over you, making you feel so damn good about yourself".
2022 - Pure/Honey : Beyoncé - The song consists of two parts, "Pure", a ballroom track, and “Honey” is disco. "Pure" samples "Feels Like" by MikeQ & Kevin Jz Prodigy and "Cunty (Wave Mix)" by Kevin Aviance, fwho are all part of the Ballroom scene. MikeQ is a DJ and part of the House of LaBeija. Kevin Jz Prodigy is a Ballroom commentator and belongs with the House of Movado. Kevin Aviance is a drag queen and is a member of the House of Aviance. "Honey" samples "Miss Honey" by Moi Renee and who was a New York drag queen who became known for super-camp performances and in 1992 released the track ‘Miss Honey’ which became a ballroom classic
2022 - Heated : Beyoncé - Beyoncé knows she's hot, but her lover has got her so "heated," she has to fan herself off. During the song, she pays tribute to her gay first cousin, Uncle Jonny, who helped her mom create and sew designs, and he died of an AIDS-related illness in the early '90s. Uncle Jonny made my dress. That cheap Spandex, she looks a mess
2022 -  Same Old Country Love Song :  Brian Falduto - A playful song that goes through the typical elements of a Country love song and then declares: It’s the Same Old Country Love Song, but It’s Gay
2022 - Break My Soul (The Queen’s Remix): Beyoncé - LGBTQ club culture is featured in Beyoncé’s Renaissance album. Since Madonna brought House culture to the masses with her 1990 hit “Vogue,” Beyonce mixed it with her song “Break My Soul.” Beyoncé changes out Madonna’s list of actors from the Golden Age of Hollywood with a list of iconic Black music artists and legendary ballroom houses
2022 - Femininomenon : Chappell Roan - Chappell told Teen Vogue that this song "is the storyline of a girl who moved from a small conservative town to a city and had an awakening of this world she never knew existed. Which includes queerness, which includes heartbreak, which includes falling in love, which includes the city and clubs, and it's the world of Chappell Roan." Also, it’s about how no man can satisfy her but with women it’s easy and different and wonderful, it’s a feminine phenomenon.
2022 - Sunshine State : Ginger Minj & Brandon Stansell - Gay country singer Brandon Stansell in sunny California and Drag Queen Ginger Minj in sunshiny Florida sing a song about not letting life’s troubles get you down. I’m flyin’ these days, and nothing can get in my way. No thunder, no rain, I’m living in a sunshine state.
2022 - Hold Me Closer : Elton John & Britney Spears - This is Britney’s first new music since her conservatorship ended and is a song made up of pieces of Elton’s songs: “Tiny Dancer,” “The One,” and a bit of “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart.” Elton John is a queer icon and Britney is a gay fave, and when they make a song together, it is a must listen, as evidenced by the song shooting to #1
2022 - Faith in Me : David Archuleta - A year after David came out publicly, he announces he has stepped away from church and releases a song titled Faith in Me. These lyrics are🔥 Every time you touch me it's like I'm on fire, and I'm about to let my feelings win. Who cares what anyone else will say? No rules, no stops and only us. This is a new David!
2022 - Unholy : Sam Smith & Kim Petras - The song is about a husband cheating on his wife with a sex worker. This is Sam Smith's first #1 hit in the USA, and the first #1 for Kim Petras, making this the first time a nonbinary singer & trans singer together have a #1 song. This type of representation is beautiful to see, even if the song isn't about queer people or topics.
2022 - Mad About the Boy : Adam Lambert – This song written by Noël Coward is about being infatuated with a male movie star on the silver screen. It’s been sung by many women over the decades, the most famous version by Dinah Washington was featured in a 1992 commercial. And now we have Adam Lambert, a gay man, restoring the original gay meaning of the song.
2022 - Hits Different : Taylor Swift - Taylor is singing about how this breakup hits different from her other ones. She used to switch out these Kens, she'd rip the Band-Aid off and skip town like an unhinged outlaw. But this time she’s still crying, the wound of this break up is still bleeding. Bet I could still melt your world, argumentative, antithetical dream girl. She’s singing about a breakup with a GIRL!
2022 - If I Was Gay : Andreas Kijv - 29-year-old Swedish singer and model Andreas Wijk wrote this song and debuted it in a TikTok video where he plays it for his parents as his way of coming out. It’s a vulnerable song that many will relate to. If I was gay would I be what they say, just a stereotype. If I was gay how do I get to heaven when there's "no church in the wild"
2022 - Lesbionic : Gia Woods - There’s been lots of songs of men hyperventilating over women, finally we have a song where a woman is lusting for another woman. It’s not iconic, it’s lesbionic.
2022 - Casual : Chappell Roan - This is a relationship where one person wants more from a relationship but tries to be chill about it. The song's inspiration comes from a long-distance relationship Chappell began online during the pandemic, where her partner online would call her their "dream girl" and soon make Roan attached to them. Yet, one week later, she texted Roan that she was seeing someone else and told her new girl that the relationship with Chappell is only casual. In a Rolling Stone interview, Roan internal response was “What the f*ck do you mean it was casual? We were telling secrets and talking literally every day!” In the video, Roan begins a casual relationship with a siren played by Mika Leshā. For Teen Vogue, Roan described the concept for the video as "Aquamarine, but like, gay"
2022 - Stacy’s Brother : Mad Tsai - Mad is a popular TikTok celebrity who came out in 2020 with his video “Boy Bi.” This song is a twist on the Fountains of Wayne’s song, “Stacy’s Mom.” I like the end of the video when Stacy gives a look that means "good for him." Maybe she’s thinking that since my Mom & brother are taken care of, next time he’ll like me just for me. Poor Stacy, someday I hope we have a sapphic love song where someone gives Stacy the romantic relationship she deserves.
2022 - Lavender Haze : Taylor Swift - The phrase “Lavender Haze” was used in the 1950′s to describe the early part of a relationship where you’re so in love with someone to the point of being oblivious to everything else around you. The video features Laith Ashley as her love interest, Laith is a trans man.
2022 - If You Go Down (I’m Goin’ Down Too) : Kelsea Ballerini - The song is about a supportive female friendship, that Kelsea will stick with her friend whatever trouble the friend winds up getting into. The song joins this list because in 2023, as states were passing bans on drag, Kelsea performed this song on the CMT Music Awards show with 4 drag queens, proving she’s an ally. If you go down, I’m goin’ down too.
2023 - A.S.M.R. Lover : RuPaul feat. Skeltal Ki -This song compares the feelings you get when someone talks to you and makes you feel safe with the the feeling you get from ASMR.
2023 - Holding Out for a Hero : Adam Lambert - "Holding Out for a Hero" was sung back in 1984 by Bonnie Tyler and first gained popularity in British gay clubs. Lambert, a gay man, covers the song, giving it a fresh perspective as he sings Where have all the good men gone, and where are all the gods?
2023 - Bimbofied : Spice - Spice is 1/2 of the drag queen duo Sugar & Spice, who are real life twin brothers. They have over 7 million TikTok followers. They competed on Season 15 of RuPaul’s Drag Race where Spice performed this original song
2023 - Dingaling : Sugar - Sugar is the other 1/2 of the popular twin brother drag queen duo Sugar & Spice. She performed this original song on Season 15 of RuPaul’s Drag Race
2023 - Because of You : Gustaph - Gustaph is openly gay and sang a song that fits right in at a Pride event as it is a call for celebrating freedom and having joy in being yourself. This song reached #3 on the Belgium charts and came in #7 in the 2023 Eurovision contest.
2023 - Go All In : Liza Vassilieva - This is the official song of Lillehammer Norway’s Winter Pride 2023. It’s a motivational song about standing up for who you are and living your life to the fullest.
2023 - Trustfall : P!nk - In this song, Pink encourages her fans to take a leap of faith to achieve a more fulfilling life, and these lyrics resonate strong with her queer fans: Close your eyes and leave it all behind. Go where love is on our side, it's a trustfall baby
2023 - I’m Not Here to Make Friends : Sam Smith, Calvin Harris & Jessie Reyez - Sam Smith wrote this song the day after a frustrating date. "I was just so sick of going on dates where people treated me like a friend or just wanted to meet me because I'm Sam Smith." In this song, Sam’s at a party, not to find friendship or even romance, but is looking for a hook up.
2023 - Who We Love : Sam Smith feat. Ed Sheeran - This is a beautiful song with a meaningful message, to trust your heart when it falls in love. Given Sam is queer, I think the unsung message is trust when your heart falls in love no matter their gender. I love these lyrics: It's not wrong to want the world for someone. It's not a feeling you can run from, 'cause we love who we love, so let go
2023 - Special : Lizzo - This is a self-affirming song that rebuffs the haters. Could you imagine a world where everybody's the same? And you could cancel a girl 'cause she just wanted to change? How could you throw f-----' stones if you ain't been through her pain? That's why we feel so alone, that's why we feel so much shame
2023 - I’m a Man : Adam Lambert : Adam covers this 1973 song, which was the first single by Jobriath, the first openly-gay rock musician to be signed by a major record label.
2023 - Tattoo : Loreen - With this song, the bisexual singer became only the 2nd person to twice win the Eurovision Song Contest. The lyrics are about breaking up with someone. I don't wanna go, But baby we both know this is not our time. It's time to say goodbye. This parting is temporary, one day they will reunite. No I don't care about the pain, I'll walk through fire and through rain just to get closer to you. You stuck on me like a tattoo. Loreen intentionally kept the gender vague of lover being sung about
2023 - U Like Boys : KC Star - This song blew up on TikTok. The singer calls out a man who is gay but is in self-denial. It’s a fun little earworm.
2023 - Not Strong Enough : Boygenius - Three women (one identifies as bi, one as a lesbian and the third as queer) formed a band and chose the name based on the trope that boys are told their geniuses since they are little, so when they were making this album, "If one person was having a thought—'I don't know if this is good, it's probably terrible'—it was like, 'No! Be the boy genius! Your every thought is worthwhile, just spit it out.'" This song is about an unhealthy relationship in which self-loathing and insincere apologies are used as leverage, self-pity used to escape responsibility. The way I am not strong enough to be your man. I lied, I am just lowering your expectations
2023 - Alone : Kim Petras feat. Nicki Minaj - Kim urges her love interest to forget about any doubts and just come over now. Nicki makes it clear that any guy would be lucky to have either her or Petras in their lives, as they're both strong, independent women who know what they want in the bedroom.
2023 - Padam Padam : Kylie Minogue - This catchy bop by gay icon Kylie Minogue was released just in time for Pride month and became THE song of summer 2023.
2023 - Red Wine Supernova : Chappel Roan - Chappel sings of a night out and a budding attraction to another woman. She chronicles the electricity of a new connection while unapologetically enjoying every second. I heard you like magic. I got a wand and a rabbit.
2023 - We Could Be the One : Dannii Minogue - In 2023, the BBC aired I Kissed a Boy, it’s first dating show to feature exclusively gay men, a year later I Kissed a Girl debuted with lesbians. Dannii Minogue is host of both shows and her song We Could Be the One is the theme song. All profits from the song are donated to the British helpline Switchboard LGBT+.
2023 - You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real) : Adam Lambert & Sigala - Lambert has been putting his own spin on a number of iconic queer anthems, and he continues this by teaming up with British DJ Sigala for a remake of Sylvester’s classic 1978 song. This was the official song for London Pride 2023.
2023 - Up : David Archuleta - David explained that “Up is about hitting what we feel is rock bottom in our lives and like there’s nowhere to go. You feel helpless. The only thing to do from the bottom is get yourself off the ground and move up. It’s about finding the strength you didn’t know you had in you. And replacing fear and hate with love. Especially self-love.” We’re glad David is on his way up, and the positive, personal message in this song lifts us up
2023 - Vulgar : Sam Smith and Madonna - The inspiration for this song is from Piers Morgan labeling Smith's 2023 Gloria tour wardrobe and choreography "disgusting and vulgar." Douglas Murray went on to say the performances lacked originality, citing Madonna as an example. So Sam and Madonna team up to sing this song about freedom of self-expression. Vulgar is beautiful, filthy, and gorgeous. Vulgar will make you dance, don't need a chorus. Say we're ridiculous, we'll just go harder. Mad and meticulous, Sam and Madonna
2023 - Like Whisky : Dallas Dixon - This is the debut single from Dixon Dallas, who is Jake Hill’s alter-ego. Dixon sings a Country song of raw and intimate passion with his partner. Even though I hate to see him go, I love to watch him leave. Levi's on top, what a sight, I love them booty cheeks. And now he's grinding on my lap like it's the last night that we have. I said, "Baby, make it clap, I wanna make this lovin' last"
2023 - Good Lookin’ : Dallas Dixon - This country song became popular on TikTok. It tells a gay love story and the chorus features these sexual lyrics: He's bouncing off my booty cheeks, I love the way he rides. I can hardly breathe when he's pumping deep inside. I kiss him on his neck and then he kisses on my bussy. Call him "Daddy" while I holler. Man, that boy so damn good looking (looking, looking)
2023 - Rush : Troye Sivan - This song is a tribute to accepting yourself, to sexual liberation, and to feeling confident. Sivan says the title of the song was partly inspired by a poppers brand of the same name.
2023 - Hot to Go : Chappell Roan - Chappell wanted a song that she could dance to with her fans, so she made this bop about self-esteem and a yearning for connection. The repetitive chorus "H-O-T-T-O-G-O" reinforces the song's lively vibe.
2023 - F150 : Dallas Dixon : Yet another gay country song by Dallas. Well, when we get to sippin' whisky, and we get a little frisky, I climb up on him, ride him like an F150.
2023 - Love U Like That : Lauv - In June 2023, Lauv came out as bi when he posted a TikTok of himself dancing in a car with the caption "when ur dating a girl bur ur also a lil bit into men" and "Does it have to be that big of a deal? I haven't done much aside from kiss so tbh don't wanna jump the gun but tbh I feel things and I don't wanna pretend I don't". A few months later, Lauv releases this song where the gender of their romantic partner is not made clear.
2023 - Got Me Started :Troye Sivan - The song tells the story of Troye meeting a guy at a party and feeling that irresistible pull toward a hookup.
2023 - One of Your Girls : Troye Sivan - This is a song of desire, secrecy and love that’s out of reach because you’re having feelings for a straight man, and it’s all a bit sad, not giving yourself the respect you deserve by thinking he’d only want to spend time if you pretend to be like someone else. Give me a call if you ever get lonely and Give me a call if you ever get desperate, I’ll be like one of your girls. In other words, he would only want me if no one else is around or available. The video has Troye dressed in drag as the ‘girl’ character in the video and he is stunning, a super model.
2024 - Not My Fault : Reneé Rapp & Megan Thee Stallion - This song plays during the closing credits of Mean Girls. It starts with dialogue sampled from the original 2004 film Mean Girls, in which Cady Heron yells at Janis Ian: "You know what? It's not my fault you're like in love with me or something!" This is followed by Reneé singing about leaving a party with someone else's girlfriend: It's not my fault you came with her but she might leave with me. It's not my fault. You've gotta pay for what I get for free.
2024 - Yes, And? : Ariana Grande - The song is described as a house and pop song referencing ballroom culture, and is influenced by Madonna’s song “Vogue.” Lyrically, the song focuses on self-confidence and preservation, overcoming negativity, while also addressing a range of negative press Grande received between 2020 and 2023. Ariana teamed up with Mariah Carey for an iconic remix of the song
2024 - The Code : Nemo - This is the winner of the 2024 Eurovision Song Contest. Nemo's song is about self-discovery, freedom, and acceptance. Nemo cracks "the code" of gender with a genre-bending mix of pop, opera, rap, and even a dash of electro and the song is about coming to terms with their nonbinary identity. I like how the song mentions computer binary code as a way to explain their nonbinary identity. Somewhere between the 0's and 1's, that's where I found my kingdom come.
2024 - Dizzy : Olly Alexander - This is Alexander's first release as a solo artist after the dissolution of Years & Years and the song represented the United Kingdom at the Eurovision Song Contest 2024. It is a love song where Alexander wants his lover to give him kisses over and over to make him feel "dizzy".
2024 - Hell Together : David Archuleta - This is a song of David’s experience at church as a gay person: Bow your head, don't be bold. You'll survive by doin' what you're told. It became too much and he worries what his mom would think if he leaves the church: All I want is to make you proud. If I would run, would I let you down? In response, she replies: "If I have to live without you. I don't wanna live forever in someone else's heaven. So let 'em close the gates. Oh, if they don't like the way you're made, then they're not any better. If Paradise is pressurе, oh, we'll go to hell togethеr." A beautiful story of a mom supporting her queer child. In response to his mom, he answers that he’s worried about what’s ahead but is confident to take those steps together: You and me, that's all we need. Blood is thicker than the pages that they read. I'm afraid (I'm afraid) of letting go, of the version that I used to know. I’m not crying, you are.
2024 - I’m Gay : Todrick Hall - A fun song referencing aspects of gay culture, such as the divas we adore, the drag queens we live for, and other things like dick pics, poppers, and the apps.
2024 - Cowboys are Frequently Secretly Fond of Each Other : Orville Peck & Willie Nelson - Orville joins Willie to remake a song that Willie recorded in 2006. Cowboys are frequently secretly fond of each other. Say, what do you think all them saddles and boots was about?
2024 - Good Luck, Babe! : Chappell Roan - Lesbian Chappell Roan sings this song about two women falling in love, but one is closeted and refuses to acknowledge their relationship for what it is or even her feelings for women in general. I don't wanna call it off but you don't wanna call it love. The woman winds up marrying a man and then longing for what could have been. If you try to deny who you are, good luck, babe! Fun fact, when she signed with Atlantic Records, Chappell did BYU Independent Study so she could graduate high school early to pursue her music career. Whose idea was it to send baby Chappell to BYU?!!
2024 - Karma : Jojo Siwa - Jojo is attempting to throw off her bubble-gum cheerleading persona and be seen as a grown up, and she’s doing this with a video with a lesbian love interest, lyrics with the word “bitch” said repeatedly, and trying to look fierce in the costumes & makeup.
2024 - Espresso : Sabrina Carpenter - Throughout her career, Carpenter has been an avid supporter of the LGBTQ+ community, in June 2024 it was also announced that her espresso-flavored ice cream collaboration with Van Leeuwen would have fifty percent of its profits benefit the Ali Forney Center, the largest nonprofit organization in the United States dedicated to helping homeless LGBTQ+ youth. This is Carpenter's first top ten single in the United States, and  topped the charts in 18 countries and peaked within the top ten of the charts in at least 20 other countries. The lyrics of the song are about self-confidence and "seeing femininity as your super power and embracing the confidence of being 'that bitch'".
2024 - Drag Queens Save the World : The Cast of RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 9 - At a time when hundreds of laws are being drafted which treat queer people as the enemy, these drag queens perform a song presenting themselves as heroes
2024 - Lunch : Billie Eilish - In Nov & Dec 2023, Billie confirmed she likes men and women. Billie says writing "Lunch" helped her explore and confirm her same-gender attraction. The song uses food metaphors for her lust for another woman, I could eat that girl for lunch
2024 - Midnight Ride : Orville Peck, Kylie Minogue & Diplo - Kylie Minogue premiered the song at Weho Pride tonight in LA. The song is a mix between disco and country
2024 - Joyride : Kesha - It’s not coincidence this song was released on July 4th, Independence Day in the USA, as it is a mark of her indepedence and freedom, finally being released from the long-term contract she had with a man who sexually abused her. The song is reminiscent of her past hits “We R Who We R” and “TikTok,” with its synth-pop sound and talk-singing style and seems ready-made for her LGBTQ fans. The song is all about self-adoration as well as wanting to have fun, at one point Kesha sings “Oh. You say you love me? Well so do I,” and isn’t that a wonderful message for everyone to embrace?
2024 - Guess : Charlie XCX feat. Billie Eilish - This is a flirty track where Charli XCX invites her partner to "guess" what underwear she's wearing. On the remix, bisexual singer Billie boldly claims to know exactly what Charli's wearing, thanks to a cheeky glimpse. She acknowledges that Charli is straight, but if she's ever up to experiment, Billie is just a phone call away.
I don’t think many people dream of growing up and living in the same city their entire life. Not being able to see different things outside their own world and limiting their world view. Unfortunately it happens, maybe far too often to count. I hoped and prayed that would never happen to me; as I got older and began to travel a bit more I began to realize how much I love the area I’m in, how much I love the Greater Philadelphia area. However, I promised myself that there are a few cities in the US that I MUST travel to and get a feel for, for when I eventually do leave the area that raised me (inevitable due to future career wants). One of those cities was Atlanta Georgia, and what better reason to go to the state where the players play, and people ride out like everyday, than to go to Momocon and celebrate a special birthday with some friends.
The crew that was riding with me were My homie Mike (aka the Wizard Tribble), his girlfriend Gabe (Director, Producer, and 1 half of the horror podcast “The Ghouls Next Door) and my girlfriend Kat (Producer and the other half of “The Ghouls Next Door). We flew in early Friday morning and hit the ground running when we landed in Atlanta. Things moved quickly in the airport. It was wide open, thoroughly organized with no real confusion, which I was not used to from the Philadelphia airport where pigeons would just sit and claim their spot to a seat right beside you in the airport. There was also this air of safety that honestly rubbed my Philadelphian grit in an odd way but I was very appreciative it was noticed. First time in a new city, the first thing anyone wants is some confirmation of safety.
Once we stepped outside, leaving the comfort of the ATL airport that safeguarded us with AC, we were blessed by the loving and excessive sun. Back home in PA the weather consistently flip flops, unsure of what season it wants to be throughout the day let alone the week. Here in Georgia though, in the city of Atlanta, it was bright and sunny all day and week long with a high of 95 and low of about 63 at night. It felt wonderful knowing that there was going to be a steady weather condition to prepare for. The sun was kissing my skin, invoking the power of my melanin–while burning some of my friends. They enjoyed it all the same luckily.
We arrived early to ATL, early enough to call a ride to the nearby diner to get some good southern breakfast in our systems. From the airport to the diner it felt like we were being taken on a small ATL tour. Passing by us was beautiful scenery, birds chirping, healthy, luscious green trees–adding a perfect amount of nature to the populated urban jungle. The letters GT were everywhere for Georgia Tech. A university that seemed to just keep expanding its territory wherever we roamed. The architecture of the city was sleek, not overly futuristic but reminiscent of Philly. It was modern with some buildings taking a design chance on aesthetics; adding in solar panels, wide open glass roof structures, inverted and curved buildings, the chances taken weren’t over the top and did just enough to stand out. Definitely caught my eye.
We finally arrived at a diner close to where we stayed—Silver Skillet Diner, a place that has hosted the likes of Samuel L. Jackson, and Dave Chappelle to name a few. It’s here that my friends and I are able to take Atlanta in more and notice that yep, this may not be Texas but things sure are thiccer (Yes with 2 C’s) down here in the south. We ordered our meals, with everyone of us making sure to get a bowl of grits–mine as a side to my chicken and waffles. Which, were so crispy yet tender. Only made better by the soft waffles and the sticky sweet syrup to combo it all together perfectly. We finish up and pay our bill. Finally we head to our Airbnb.
We get there and are blown away at the place. Nice balcony, modern furniture with a TV in every room, kitchen is dope and has a beautiful island for us to eat at and lean on. The bathrooms are HUGE and the bedrooms are perfectly fitted for 2. To top it off we had access to a summer lounge area that led to a nice pool and fitness center. Place was so good we had to take a instagram video of it. We were in prime location. Downtown Atlanta, right next to the expressway, walking distance from markets and other restaurants, clothing chains and if we didn’t want to walk we could scooter around wherever we wanted to. Yes, I said scooter around. Not like kick push scooter but motorized. Rideshare companies like Lyft & Uber have motorized scooters you can take by going through the same process as you would by ordering a driver except it’s cheaper and you scan a QRcode to activate the scooter. When you’re finished using it, you hop off, pay and just leave it. Drivers come around later in the day and pick up said scooters and recharge them for later use. It was the strangest but coolest thing to see. Definitely had too much fun bending coroners whipping the scooters like I was in rocket power.
After unpacking and taking more IG photos of our Airbnb, it was time to hit the scene and check out the hype around Momocon. What started out as just a “pick up my badge and go” operation turned into a full storm of fun and adventure. When we arrived at Momocon we took it like any other convention and didn’t pay it much attention, the jaded-ness of being a frequent convention goer showing. That is until we got our badges. We got them, so finally we had access to everything the convention had to offer. We rushed the escalators and slid down the rails to do so again until we reached the convention floor. The choices laid out before were the vendors alley, or the gaming hall. We chose the gaming hall for day one.
A concert of echoing laser sounds, dance taps, sirens, alarms, and winning shouts filled the floor and us with it, enveloped in its energy joined the fray. Game after game we played. Putting our bid to even win some the next day. New friends were made, cosplays were stellar, and I got to chill with one of my favorite Pokémon–Blastoise.
We caught wind of a very rare concert happening that night. One my close friend and I have been dying to see. It was the Bytes & Beats Nujabes Tribute concert featuring the NPC Collective, Richie Branson, Asheru, And our favorites–Substantial and Shing02. If you know anything about great anime then you know about Samurai Champloo. An anime that still stylistically, artistically, and musically, holds up and stands the test of time. Those who watched Samurai Champloo leave with a spirit of hypeness and angsty rebellion. That is if they’re the Mugen type. Those like myself who align more like Jin, feel the counter balance energy of flow. The subtle and instinctual vibrations of being in one's element–just riding the current. One of the biggest things to enjoy about Samurai Champloo is its music. Samurai Champloo had a lot of its music crafted by a Japanese DJ named Nujabes. In my eyes, Nujabes is a god among DJ’s. Shoot, a whole generation of young adults and older can thank him for all the music that inspired if not created the genre of chill-hop & lo-fi.
It was the type of music that could soothe the savage beast, could bring you to this place of perfect concentration like you took the limitless pill. The Beats Nujabes crafted was the type of music that makes you think of the perfect weekend drive by sunset cruising the city blocks or mountain roads or the plains of the countryside–windows down with your one arm doing the free flowing roller coaster motion. That feel good–I’m alive vibe. Then topped with the lyrical stylings of artists like Substantial and Shing02, enhanced everything passed the stratosphere and takes the listener to this otherworldly plain of profound worldly views and humbleness. Even with the uptempo joints it felt like every artist that blessed the track, and Nujabes blessing the beat, it just spoke humble confidence. In short, Nujabes was that dude!
Nujabes collaborated with many artists, but the two that he collaborated with and stood out the most were Substantial and Shing02. He worked on joint albums with both (that are historic for chill-hop culture and must listens) but it was with Shing02 specifically that the two together blessed anime fans worldwide as they collaborated on the intro theme song to Samurai Champloo–Battle Cry. A song so enigmatic that just the utterance of its name begins to make my head bop in rhythmic hip hop fashion. Needless to say, we were going to that damn concert!
It was Friday night, we were in Atlanta, we were looking fly, it’s our first time ever at Momocon and quite possibly our first and only time at this Nujabes tribute concert. We were gonna make sure we had a great fucking time. We did everything possible to make sure we got up close and personal to the stage. I may have stuff-armed a person or two….We made sure to take in all the ambience and to not miss a single beat nor lyric felt or heard. We expected greatness and would be damned if we didn’t have a chance to bear witness to it up close and personal.
The concert began and we were taken to a land of hip hop joy, geek excellence, and a dream fulfilled. The concert started at 11pm and didn’t end till about 3am. For those who waited and held out to the very end like my friends and I were treated to a very special rendition of Battle Cry. A new version with verses from every artist that graced the stage prior, and instrumental solos. This shit was absolutely BONKERS and I LOVED every single moment of it. I’ll add, it was made even better that after the show, the artists came out and interacted with the fans. A humble group of men for sure.
Friday was a blockbuster hit in our books. What happened on Saturday though put everything over the top.
Saturday was special. It was Kat’s birthday and all of us were doing our first ever group cosplay. We decided a while back that we’d do the teen titans in casual attire. This was based off the popular artwork of Gabriel Picolo. So, for me that meant I got to embody a character that I along with many others believe I emulate–Cyborg. I dawned the cybernetic blue and steel grey and white face paint, put on a DC Comics Cyborg shirt to rep him even harder, and topped it off with a colorful playstation jacket. Your man was looking fresh out here. To round out our cast of titans was Kat as Raven, Mike as Robin/Nightwing and Gabe as Starfire. Our rule was if we see a Beast Boy, we adopt him for a family photo; and sure enough we did.
We bursted into Momocon towards the backend of a DC vs Marvel Photoshoot. We got a couple pictures taken there then dispersed to get our own in front of the Momocon banner. That’s when it began to happen. It started off quietly by a singular person, then it built into a loud murmur from everyone I see, then it finally erupts into a loud “DOPE COSPLAY CYBORG” from groups of people. Wherever we went I was getting noticed, our team and group cosplay was getting noticed. I don’t think we ever knew it would become such a big deal. I know I didn’t at the time until it was pointed out to me that, every teen titans cosplay done by a group is ALWAYS lacking a Cyborg; everyone but ours. It was a moment that really struck home for me. It began to make more sense as the day progressed. Little kids were coming up to me saying “BOOYAH!” and singing the teen titans theme song. People loved us, they wanted our pictures, put us in videos, stopped what they were doing just to chat with us. It was major. It without a shadow of a doubt drove home the message to me that representation matters. I know some out there will say it’s not super important but after Momocon, after seeing little black boys and girls smile with joy and sing teen titans with me, after they get excited by the utterance of the word booyah by another black character, that families start showing me off to their kid cosplayers and other adult cosplayers of color pause everything because they NEED to take a photo with you...you just can’t ignore how important that is. To be able to see yourself as a hero. To see oneself as greater than for once, when most of–if not all of society says you can only fit into these certain boxes. To see someone else that looks like you in a positive light; that’s all it takes to break a negative cycle, that’s all it takes to create another hero. For a small moment in time, I was inspiring to those around me; and I hope that the sliver of inspiration that I sparked stays ignited in those I met. I know it surely will with me.
But I digress.
Beyond the massive success of our group cosplay, beyond the elation and fun had for Kat’s birthday, the icing on the cake was being able to meet a famous cosplayer by the name of KieraPlease. This was after an intense dance dance revolution session in which I sat and recorded video and got exhausted looking at everyone else go. It was pure happenstance, which resulted into pure happiness when we finally met. I don’t get starstruck often but I must say, words failed me for our brief interaction. I saw her, saw my friends, and shot my shot at a possible chat and photo opportunity for us all. I took the shot and it went in (KOBE!!). After the picture she hugged us all and had a nice conversation with the Ghouls (Kat & Gabe) which I’m sure made their day if the hug didn’t already. It’s great to note that as a team, we have this cosplay thing down well. When a pro says you got it, you freaking got it! More so, it was better to finally meet someone your used to seeing on a cellphone or laptop screen. A living breathing tangible person, who quite honestly is living her best life fully and truly can be looked at as a symbol of positivity; a role model even. Just like that, day two was in the books.
So, I think I brought you along far enough on my experience in ATL. Detailing 2 key days. Now let me change things up on you a bit and give you my overall thoughts of Atlanta and Momocon as a whole.
Atlanta itself is a hotbed of culture. On the weekend we went, that weekend alone had a bevy of major events happening all weekend long. There was Momocon, Caribbean festival and parade, a food festival, and Stone Mountain fireworks and light show to name a few. As one of our lyft drivers said, ATL is a hotbed of culture because it is made up of a lot of different cultures and people from around the US. Atlanta has its own swagger but it is the culmination of others that has shaped the way it is today. Atlanta is a Transplant City. Many people are moving to Atlanta because of the opportunities that present itself. From music, TV, movies, overall entertainment and broadcasting, the warm weather, the great food, the architecture, the various modes of transportation (ONE TIME FOR THE SCOOTERS), the cheaper housing, and generally you get more out of your earned dollar; why people move there makes sense. And like all major cities Atlanta has its issues, shoot the state of Georgia alone is a bit problematic depending on where you slide politically. But my time spent there will be one for the history books. It’s definitely a place worth traveling to again. Next time I go, I’ll be sure to do more exploring. I didn’t get a chance to travel the halls of Cartoon Network (IF ANYONE ONE IN THE HR DEPARTMENT IS READING THIS, HIRE ME PLEASE) so that’s reason enough for me to go back. That and I didn’t get to try some of Hattie B’s Nashville hot chicken or the slutty vegan sandwich. There’s always next time though.
As for Momocon….IN-FREAKING-CREDIBLE! Momocon has that extra something. That nudge to taking it up one more notch to make it great. No, it is not as big as DragonCon and maybe it won’t get the same recognition or acclaim but Momocon is a phenomenal con. Momocon brought me back to 2014, when I first started going to conventions. My first one at the time was Otakon and to this day I don’t think any other con will hold as special of a spot in my heart as Otakon. But Momocon, Momocon was dangerously close to taking that spot. Which lets me know and hopefully you, the reader, now that it’s just that damn good! The crowd size of the convention is comparable to say the Greater Philadelphia comic con. Meaning there’s a large crowd and over a thousand things to do but you never have to fear about missing out on something. You can and will get to everything you want if you have patience. The event staff from security to the PR and press team were absolutely amazing. All were easy to talk to and informative, helpful and never overbearing. What truly made Momocon as great as it is in my eyes, is that it at its core it remained an anime and gaming convention. It wasn’t a comic convention with anime sections, it was an anime and gaming convention that accepted comic lovers just as much as it did its anime and gaming fans. Anime and gaming is my bread and butter, it’s what got me into this geeky, blerd, pop-culture world I exist in currently. Momocon stayed true to that core value. The sheer fact they had Substantial and Shing02 performing live in concert said more than enough for me. Momocon you are in fact, a real one.
Atlanta….I’ll be back in the future. Whether that be for work or pleasure, or hell maybe to be a transplant myself and live there. All this kid from the burbs of Philly has to say left is…
Peace up, A-Town down.
Much love,
Night of Prince Liam's Coronation
———————————
Kristina POV
Kristina waits for the announcement that her section of the plane may board. Sighing she picks up her bag and walks to the nearby window. Gazing out she sees the lights of a place that will always hold a special, albeit now painful, place in her heart. Her brain was finally beginning to process the events that happened just hours before, and in truth her pain wasn't rooted in being ripped from the palace due to that set upped scandal with Tariq or even in losing her chance with the prince. The root of this pain was two fold. She mourned letting down House Beaumont, but most painful was leaving her “human alarm clock” behind. She had begun to look forward to any possible minute spent with Maxwell, and near the end of the Social Season she knew she was falling for him.
First it was a fun friendship with Maxwell, but then his funny, happy go lucky soul full of sunshine began to be a part of what she needed everyday. When her heart fluttered the first time he called her 'little blossom' she knew that the prince was no longer the prize she sought. But to help the man she was beginning to, very much, care for she had to gain the crown. It was the only way to save his House and the Beaumont reputation, but now her own ruined reputation wouldn't allow her do that for him. With this now major mixup of pretty much everything, she sets her mind that going back to New York is the best thing to do, for them all. Maxwell would be able to get over losing just a friend, right? And she'd live with the regret of never finishing that damn conversation she tried to start with him while riding the trail during the mock Royal Hunt at Applewood Manor.
“Now boarding our Economy Class and all other passengers.”
The announcement brings her out of her thoughts, and leads her over to hand her boarding pass to the attendant. At that moment she hears someone calling out her name. And it sounds like Maxwell's voice off in the distance. Don't turn around. Don't you dare turn around. But her body defies her brain and turns around to see him, and Bertrand, fighting to get pass the guards which were sent to make sure she got on this flight. She meets Maxwell's eyes and sees the desperation, and something else she can't quite describe. He calls her name again while her eyes begin to well with tears. Finally making it through the guards, he moves towards her. You have to go now, or you never will. Taking everything in her, she turns and begins moving forward into to the tunnel to board the aircraft. “Little blossom stop, please!” It's the last thing she hears as she walks away.
———————————
Maxwell POV
Maxwell can't stand the drive to the airport. He bounces his knees while full of anxiety. We have to make it in time. He is continually shifting in his seat, right to left and front to back. If Bertrand wasn't so busy still steaming and cursing everyone and everything in the name of House Beaumont he would be admonishing Maxwell for visibly starting to fall apart. Bertrand would demand the appropriate attention be held to the matter at hand, not on some silly emotions.
As Maxwell begins to ring his hands nervously together he stares out the car window. He can't quite put all of his feelings into logical explanation. Anxiety that they wouldn't get there in time to bring her back, he understands that. Panic of failing Bertrand, yet again, he gets that one too. But this powerful pit in his stomach and the feeling of emptiness in his heart didn't quite make sense. He knows missing her before she boards that flight means he could very well never see her again, but he is not sure why these two emotions are stronger than he would expect to feel for a friend leaving. It's just my adrenaline.
They reach the airport and flee the car. Maxwell immediately checks the departure board. Fortunately only one of the three flights to New York is currently in the boarding process so he begins to sprint toward that gate while he hears Bertrand yelling behind to stop being impulsive, they had to be certain they were running to the correct gate. I got this one, brother. I have to get there in time. Maxwell sees the guards at the gate. Yes, the correct gate. In just a second his excitement turns to a frustration beyond all belief as the guards won't let him pass. He hears Bertrand catch up giving the guards a tongue lashing.
“Now boarding our Economy Class and all other passengers.”
Maxwell moves his attention from the guards and sees Kristina heading toward the airline attendant. Franticly he yells her name. She stops. It takes her a moment to turn around, but their eyes meet. In the seconds he has to hold her gaze he tries to pour all his emotions into his pleading eyes. He sees hers welling with tears, and it tares at his heart. Don't go, stay with me, please. Please don't leave me. He calls her name again as the guards finally release him. He starts to make his way to her, but stops in his tracks as he watches her turn and begin to walk away. “Little blossom stop, please!” She was a friend, walking away from him. He knew he should have all sorts of feelings, he just didn't expect the punch he feels in the stomach and the start of his heart cracking. And she doesn't stop, all he sees is Kristina walking out of his life.
———————————
Kristina's POV
Kristina sits in her window seat watching the lights of Cordonia during takeoff. With tears now streaming down her cheeks she abruptly slides down the shade while she mouths the words “I’m so sorry. Goodbye.” This long flight is going to be a hell of a lot harder with nothing to occupy my time. They could have at least let me stop to get a book or some magazines. But who am I kidding, there is not a thing I could have purchased that would actually distract me. She stares blankly at the shuttered window next to her feeling every pang of pain which accompanies every beat of her heart. She tries in vain to focus on her plan to find Daniel and get his help in beginning life all over again in New York. Except every thought ends up on Maxwell and the look she met in his eyes. This memory is painfully seared in her mind over all of her experiences in Cordonia. Losing herself in the quietest sobs she can muster her body finally gives in and she falls into a fitful sleep.
———————————
Maxwell's POV
While Bertrand paces rambling a thousand things all pertaining to their now eminent demise, Maxwell leans against the nearest wall and slides down to the floor. Arms crossed resting on his knees and head down he fights to keep all the noise, especially Bertrand, out of his head. She looked at me. She looked right in my eyes and even with tears in her own she just walked away. He understood why she would want to get on that plane, but he didn't understand why once she heard him ask her to stop she didn't even hesitate and kept going. She is stronger than this. Doesn't she know we, I, will fight along side her. Doesn't she know what her friendship means to me? She was, is, my only best friend. I thought she saw me as a best friend too. Maxwell doesn't want to cry in the airport terminal, and he can't tune out Bertrand any longer. He gets up, and pulls out his phone to call a car for himself. As he walks away he hears Bertrand behind him yelling something at him, but at this point in the night he just doesn't give a damn.
Is there any new stuff planned for the cowboy bebop series
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Original anime series director Shinichirō Watanabe is a consultant on the series, and original composer Yoko Kanno returns to score the live-action adaptation.Ĭowboy Bebop is executive produced by André Nemec, Jeff Pinkner, Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg of Midnight Radio, Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements of Tomorrow Studios, Makoto Asanuma, Shin Sasaki and Masayuki Ozaki of Sunrise Inc., Tim Coddington, Tetsu Fujimura, Michael Katleman, Matthew Weinberg, and Christopher Yost. Production on Cowboy Bebop wrapped in March. So far, we’ve seen Kendall (Jeremy Strong) and Logan (Brian Cox) take their side and pick their players. The highly-anticipated live action adaptation has experienced delays over the course of production due to Cho’s on-set injury, which put the show out for seven to nine months. We have a lot of stuff planned for it that I cant even talk about right now, but its the most excited Ive been by podcasting. We’re entering Week 6 of Succession, and the drama is still coming. It’s been confirmed that Netflix’s Cowboy Bebop Season 2 TV show is already in the works and the first season of the live-action Cowboy Bebop remake has not even finished filming. Cowboy Bebop also features Geoff Stults, Tamara Tunie, Mason Alexander Park, Rachel House, Ann Truong and Hoa Xuande. a stellar job bringing this Blu-ray set to North America, and while it is THE. Netflix’s images also reveal the Bebop in its mechanical glory, Ein the experiment-turned-pet Corgi and a key scene between Spike and nemesis Vicious, who will be played by Alex Hassell. : Cowboy Bebop - The Complete Series : David Lucas, Wendee Lee. The only member of the original Bebop gang missing from the series so far is hacker protégé Edward, a.k.a.
Tumblr media
It may be a kickass song, but you need a LOT of good songs to make it a good soundtrack).Dave Chappelle Met With Mixed Reactions From Students At Alma Mater On April 3, 1998, Cowboy Bebop premiered for the first time on Japanese TV and instantly changed the anime game forever. I dont like ecchi in general, not because I watch stuff with my brother haha.
Tumblr media
All in the, sort of, bow related but some new gadgets he has in addition to the bow.' He went on to assure that Hawkeye is 'totally there' and 'a part of the world' That still doesnt tell us if hes actually going to appear in Infinity War or not. Were developing a lot of interesting stuff for him. My question is- could it be the best Soundtrack ever, beyond any game, movie, or special piece you've heard? And if not, what do you think is?(remember- one song can't make a good soundtrack. I can guarantee in the 2nd season of Soma, theres only one super mild 'ecchi' stuff in it since the judges of the competitions are now old men. 'Hawkeye is getting a lot of cool new stuff. Some of the greatest are the opening theme- "Tank!", the Final Theme, "See You Space Cowboy(a dramatic rendition of The Real Folk Blues, with different lyrics but same melody and feel), "Blue", the final episode's ending theme, and countless more songs I've enjoyed, from tons of different styles.Īnd now, as I rediscovered the soundtrack to the movie to Cowboy Bebop, I am once again reminded of the elegance, and power, by the song "Gotta Knock a Little Harder"(right through the door). LOL I feel like shit is about to go off the rails, but I’m enjoying the ride into the unknown. This series is, as the kids say, wildin’. Many of the songs from it are on my perma-playlist, and I have on tons of my CDs- and have only burned 2 that don't contain it. Episode 8’s got this show feeling like a straight comedy with the trio running over Jet’s plan. But, Bast holds power and cunning of unknown strength and ability. My favorite song holder place has long been held by "The Real Folk Blues", the standard ending theme to Cowboy Bebop. Wielding Dragnipur, the night-bladed sword, millenia of fighting experience, and the ability to turn into a dragon Anomander presents a daunting challange to Bast (cause he can turn into a freaking dragon).
Nick Foles: Live in Souderton
I used to live in Georgia, so I know what a megachurch looks like.
But, holy crap, “Calvary Baptist” up in Souderton is HUGE. The place looks like Episcopal Academy and has a small convenience store inside the building. Seriously. My brother-in-law walked over to some Starbucks-looking area and came back with a bottle of water and a soda.
That’s not why we were there, however. I didn’t drive 90 minutes up Broad Street and Route 309 for a soft drink. We dropped in on 1210 WPHT’s Nick Foles “Speaker Series” event, part of the tour to promote his new book, “Believe It: My Journey of Success, Failure, and Overcoming the Odds,”. 100% of proceeds from sales will go to various charity efforts.
But before I get into the Super Bowl MVP, I wanna shout out morning host Chris Stigall, who was tasked with addressing the crowd during a 40 minute delay before Foles hit the stage with Dom Giordano. It was a restless crowd, but Stigall held his ground and got the job done, like some burgeoning young comic that had the misfortune of opening for Dave Chappelle.
Foles and Giordano spoke for about 70 minutes, and I’ve never seen Nick so loose. He really shelved a lot of the guarded athlete-speak that you hear from him in media scrums (no duh). He spoke openly about a lot of things in the book and his relationship with teammates, coaches, and family. He was not, however, asked about the Eagles’ canceled White House visit or the national anthem controversy, which I’m 99.9% sure Dom has talked about on his midday show. I’m told it was Dom’s decision not to go down that road and keep the discussion rather straightforward and non-controversial instead.
There’s a lot to parse, so I figured I’d just go chunk by chunk and give you some of the highlights:
On trade rumors, Foles felt like he was sure he was going to be dealt by the Eagles this offseason:
“There’s a business aspect, so you’re not quite sure what’s going to happen. I was always convinced I was going to be traded. So we were trying to plan it as to what’s going to happen – this is really tough, being dealt away from Philly twice.”
….
“I think that we’re in such a unique situation, that Carson Wentz is an amazing quarterback. He’s the quarterback of the future for Philadelphia. I understand that and I’m comfortable saying that. Some people say that’s crazy to say that, but that’s not how I roll. I don’t like being that quarterback. The best guy is going to play. It’s a team sport and if the best guy is playing in front of you, keep working hard and supporting him. If he gets injured, you want him to support you in the same way, and that’s how I approach the game.”
Giordano asked Foles a list of “lightning round” questions:
DG: Your favorite quarterback other than Carson Wentz?
Foles: Alex Smith.
DG: A word to describe Tom Brady?
Foles: Great.
DG: Has he congratulated you yet? (crowd jeers)
Foles: I’m sure I’ll have a conversation with Tom one of these days, and when I do, I’ll probably let him know (laughs). But I think we all know he’s one of, if not the greatest of all time. We’ll have a good conversation and I look forward to that day.
DG: Favorite coach other than Doug Pederson?
Foles: Andy Reid.
DG: Favorite film?
Foles: I’m gonna geek out a little bit. Right now it’s the Marvel films… The last Avengers and Black Panther were amazing.
DG: Who should play Nick Foles in a film?
Foles: I’d go with Ryan Gosling right now.
DG: Favorite band or singer?
Foles: I love country music, but right now, one of my favorite things to do with my daughter is watch music videos.. right now our number one band is Maroon five and the song is “Girls Like You.” It’s got like 200 million views and Lily and I have 20 million of those.
DG: Something we don’t know about Nick Foles?
Foles: I have a tattoo under my left arm (inaudible, but something about two truths dating back to a college communications class).
One of the more interesting quotes was Foles describing his first impressions of Philadelphia when he came out of Arizona as a third round draft pick.
“It’s a little intimidating before you’ve been here. When Andy was sitting me down in his office he said, ‘you’re pretty confident, you’re a young guy.’ Then he says, ‘do you think you can play here?’ I said, ‘yes, I think I can play here,’ but I didn’t say it with that much confidence. And then he said, ‘this city has ripped grown men apart.’ So there was a part of me that needed to figured out more about the city and what it was like.”
….
“I love this city. I’ve been traded away from this city. It was really tough; you can ask my wife. It was really tough when I was traded away, realizing that I would never come out of that tunnel in an Eagles jersey again. That’s what I felt; you never really come back to the team you’re traded from. I’ve been fortunate to play for great fans, but there’s nothing like Philly fans. You’re tough on us but I know where your hearts are. Y’all aren’t fans. I know you’re classified as fans, but the whole Philadelphia Eagles family base is something special. Y’all are family, and when I hear the stories, everything is generational. It’s history. I’ve heard so many stories about the Super Bowl and the tears and the experience. We knew when that clock hit zero what it meant for the city.”
Nick obviously had a lot of good things to say about Doug Pederson and Andy Reid. He spoke specifically about Andy Reid giving him a chance to rekindle his love of football in Kansas City and also giving him his first NFL shot back in 2012.
“Andy Reid had a big impact on my life and is one of my favorite coaches. He knows how to handle his business in an appropriate manner. He might not give everything to the media, but you also have to understand that sometimes there are questions that are asked that need to stay in house. Because the facility, the brotherhood we have there, the reason we’re able to win 4th quarter games, overtime, win the Super Bowl, that’s because we’re a tight-knit group in that facility. Andy Reid was always like a father figure when I played for him. And he’s tough on you, he’s going to expect a lot from you. He’s a disciplined coach. If you’re late to a meeting, there’s going to be discipline. But a few days later he’ll crack a joke, wink at you, he’ll do something that your dad would do – ‘I disciplined you but I’m doing it because I love you.'”
On Doug Pederson, Dom asked if he was an Andy Reid clone or if there were differences between the two coaches:
“So the great thing about coach Pederson, and the thing about coach Reid, they always said to let your personality show. That means be who you are. Andy Reid is an amazing teacher. He’s taught Doug so much. But coach Pederson has had so many great mentors. The thing I appreciate about coach Pederson the most is that he’s the same person as a head coach that he was as my quarterbacks coach. He hasn’t changed as a person. Now his responsibility and role has changed. He’s got a lot of similarities to Andy in structure and how he approaches things, but he does different things – how he does a team meeting, how he talks to us, some quirky sayings, but that’s who he is. It’s something I’ve always respected about Doug Pederson.”
There was more, a lot more, mostly some good stories that are likely repeated in the book. I’ll read it and do my book report, or maybe just pass that assignment off to Russ instead.
Bruno Mars and Cardi B took it back to the 90’s with their performance of their hit song “Finesse,” a throwback homage with elements of “In Living Color,” New Jack Swing and R&B all thrown in together.
Mars, who won three Grammy awards already and was nominated for three more, including album and record and song of the year, showed off his dance moves with his backing band in colorful matching outfits.
Cardi B, the flamboyant rapper behind the mega hit “Bodak Yellow” added her own flair to the performance as well with her rapping and dancing.
Pink stood alone on the Grammy stage wearing jeans and a T-shirt to sing her new song “Wild Hearts Can’t Be Broken.”
It was a subdued performance from the entertainer who has performed on previous Grammy telecasts while swinging from the ceiling.
The three-time Grammy winner was a nominee Sunday for pop solo performance for “What About Us,” but the prize went to Ed Sheeran for “Shape of You.”
Writer-director-actor Donald Glover has performed at the Grammy Awards as his musical alter-ego, Childish Gambino.
Wearing a white suit and backed by a four-piece band, Glover as Gambino sang “Terrified” from his album “Awaken My Love.” Childish Gambino was nominated for five Grammys Sunday, including album of the year.
Glover/Gambino won a Grammy during the pre-telecast ceremony. Glover also won two Emmy awards last year, for acting and directing his TV series “Atlanta.” His Grammy win Sunday brings him halfway to EGOT status — the title given to those who’ve won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony award.
8:30 p.m.
Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee are performing their hit “Despacito” at the Grammy Awards. The song has become one of the biggest global hits of all time, and its video is the world’s most popular, with five billion views.
“Despacito” is up for three Grammys Sunday, including song of the year and record of the year. The performance brought the crowd to its feet, with some audience members filming the act on their cell phones and singing along.
Host James Corden joked that he had never heard the song before and Fonsi and Daddy Yankee should get it on the radio.
Batiste sat at the piano and kicked things off on vocals with Domino’s “Ain’t That a Shame.” Clark followed on the guitar with Berry’s “Maybelline.”
Clark thanked the two late entertainers “for all the music that you made possible.”
Batiste and Clark then presented the pop solo award to Ed Sheeran for “Shape of You.”
Sheeran did not attend Sunday’s ceremony.
Alessia Cara is the winner of the Grammy Award for best new artist, and though she says she’s dreamed of the honor for her whole life, she doesn’t have a speech planned.
Cara nervously accepted the award Sunday evening and urged people to “support real music and real artists.”
Cara said at the beginning of her speech: “I’ve been like pretend winning Grammys since I was kid like in the shower, so you’d think I have the speech thing down but I absolutely don’t.”
She held up the award before leaving the stage and said, “My mind is blown.”
Kendrick Lamar is the winner of the Grammy Award for best rap/sung performance.
Lamar, who opened the Grammy Awards with a blistering performance, won for his song “Loyalty,” which also features Rihanna.
Rihanna thanked Lamar for giving her the opportunity to work on the song.
It is the fourth Grammy Award that Lamar won on Sunday.
Kendrick Lamar has opened the 60th Grammy Awards with a performance of “XXX” from his album “DAMN.” An image of an American flag flickered behind him and an army of dancers accompanied him onstage.
Host James Corden said on the red carpet before the show that viewers could expect “the most unique and bold opening you could ever imagine.”
U2’s Bono and The Edge joined Lamar on stage before the rapper transitioned into “DNA.”
A dramatic sequence followed, with Lamar’s dancers dressed in red, each figuratively shot down by the rapper.
Lamar also won three Grammy Awards before Sunday’s ceremony began, bringing his lifetime total to 10.
Lamar has delivered stellar performances on the Grammy stage before. He stunned in 2016 with a medley from his celebrated album “To Pimp a Butterfly.” The rapper performed “The Blacker the Berry” as he led what looked like a chain gang, his band members performing from jail cells. He finished with the rallying “Alright,” standing in front of a map of Africa emblazoned with the word “Compton.”
Lamar also shared the Grammy stage with Imagine Dragons in 2014.
Tony Bennett has won 18 Grammy Awards in his career, but his son isn’t so far behind.
Dae Bennett won his eighth Grammy at Sunday’s ceremony, for producing “Tony Bennett Celebrates 90,” the companion album to his father’s NBC special celebrating Bennett’s birthday. Dae has shared in seven previous Grammy wins for his father, but the nomination Sunday — for best traditional pop album — was solely in his name.
In the Grammy Awards pre-show, Dae accepted the award with his now 91-year-old father at his side.
The elder Bennett says he’s thrilled to see his son won. He said the honor made it “a beautiful night.”
Backstage, the Bennetts said they have always been a family affair.
Tony Bennett also shooed away any talk of retirement. He says he’s “just starting out.”
He adds, “I’m going to keep going until I cut out.”
Khalid doesn’t really care if he leaves the Grammy with a statuette. No, really.
The 19-year-old hip-hop sensation says he’s pleased with being nomination. He says the fact that he’s up for five Grammys on Sunday “is ridiculous on its own.”
Khalid is enjoying life with his debut album “American Dream” — with the hit “Young Dumb & Broke” — and being featured on Logic’s song of the year nominee, “1-800-273-8255.” Khalid is also a best new artist nominee.
He says he’s living out his destiny — he wanted to be at the Grammys.
Khalid was also happy that hip-hop and rap dominated the nominations.
He wore a white rose the lapel of his white suit jacket. He says, “Standing for equality is the way to go. I love everybody.”
The former ’90s star turned children’s music maker Lisa Loeb was among those who sported a white rose in solidarity with the #MeToo movement at the Grammy Awards. But she also had one defense of the music industry.
Loeb says she’s aware that some are saying the music industry took too long to catch up to the #MeToo and Time’s Up movements, but she says that’s because there are so fewer music awards shows this time of year. She says, “In the music industry, we’re in recording studios. We’re holed up in rooms writing songs and we’re on the road and we’re on stage. We’re all over the place, like stars. We aren’t together a lot.”
She says a lot of artists try to spread their messages through their music and performances.
Loeb, who had the 1994 hit “Stay (I Missed You)” won Sunday best children’s album for “Feel What U Feel.”
Chuck Berry’s son heartily endorsed the guitarist Gary Clark Jr. honoring his late father at the Grammys.
Clark along with musician Jon Batiste will pay tribute to the late rock pioneers Berry and Fats Domino.
Charles Berry Jr. says Clark is outstanding. He says, “I’m sure he’s going to knock it out of the park. No question”
The elder Berry’s last record included “Wonderful Woman” with help from his son, his grandson, Charles III, and Clark. Berry died in March at 90.
Clark says Berry’s influence looms large in his career, from the guitars he plays to the style he employs. He says, “I don’t think there’s a guitarist on the planet who hasn’t stolen or interpreted something from Chuck Berry.”
If the phone rings during the Grammys, Lady Antebellum might have welcomed some more ladies.
Dave Haywood and bandmate Charles Kelley are at Sunday’s Grammys without their third member, Hillary Scott, who stayed home as she awaits the birth of twin girls. The guys wore white roses in her honor.
Haywood says, “Our leading lady is not here.” He says they have always considered Scott an amazing and strong woman, and they wanted to support her.
Kelley says “If the phone rings and we have to leave the show, you know what it’s about.”
He says Scott is due any day now, and they are excited to meet her daughters.
Lady Antebellum has won five Grammys and this year is up for two: Best country group or duo performance for “You Look Good” and best country album for “Heart Break.”
“La La Land” is still winning awards.
The film won twice at Sunday’s Grammy Awards, which, like the Oscars, honored the song craft behind Damien Chazelle’s blockbuster musical. Thankfully for “La La Land,” there were no envelope flubs nearly a year after the Academy Awards.
Composer Justin Hurwitz won for best composition soundtrack and best score soundtrack for visual media. He shared the former with Marius de Vries.
Hurwitz won two Oscars last February for the “La La Land” score and the song “City of Stars.” The Grammys run on a different calendar than the Oscars, drawing from October 2016 to September 2017 releases.
Backstage at the Grammys, Hurwitz was asked about those infamous final moments at the Oscars. He says “It was a blur. I’ve watched it on YouTube a few times.”
Jay-Z’s producer says he doesn’t want to enflame tensions between Donald Trump and Jay-Z.
No. I.D., who produced Jay-Z’s Grammy-nominated “4:44,” says he hopes the rap legend and Trump are able to talk about their differences after Jay-Z criticized the president and Trump fired back.
The producer says the back-and-forth is “a conversation that needs to occur.”
Trump tweeted Sunday that he wanted Jay-Z to know at “because of my policies,” unemployment among black Americans is at the “LOWEST RATE EVER RECORDED!” That appeared to be in response to a CNN interview in which the rapper said the president’s vulgar comments about African countries and Haiti were “disappointing” and “hurtful.”
Guitarist Robert Randolph just learned about the president’s tweet Sunday afternoon but wasn’t sure calling out Jay-Z or his wife, Beyonce, was the wisest decision. He jokes, “Now it’s a rap battle!”
The late engineer Tom Coyne has won a posthumous Grammy Award for his work on Bruno Mars’ “24K Magic.”
It’s the seventh Grammy for Coyne, who died in April from cancer. Coyne, the master engineer on the album, shared in the award for best engineered album, non-classical, with engineers Serban Ghenea, John Hanes and Charles Moniz.
Coyne worked on hit recordings for Adele, Beyonce, Metallica and Taylor Swift in his decades-long career. He won last year for Adele’s Record of the Year winner “Hello.” Coyne earned 37 nominations in total before his death.
Ghenea and Hanes, who accepted the Grammy, dedicate the award to Coyne.
“I know this would have been really special for him,” Ghenea said backstage. “He’s won many Grammys before but never the best engineered album. This would have meant a lot to him.”
Carrie Fisher has won a posthumous Grammy Award for her “The Princess Diarist.”
Fisher died in December 2016 at age 60. The Grammy is awarded for her audio recording of her memoir based on diaries she kept around the time she starred in the first “Star Wars” film in 1977.
The announcement was greeted with loud cheers in the theater where dozens of early Grammy Awards are being announced Sunday.
3:50 p.m.
Tom Petty is on the minds of many entering the Grammy Awards.
Singer-songwriter Lisa Loeb calls Petty’s music “the soundtrack of my life.” She says she was at his final concert at the Hollywood Bowl in late September.
Petty died in October at age 66 from an accidental drug overdose. She called his final performance an amazing concert, and says he is such a loss.
Petty is one of several high-profile artists who died over the past year, including Chris Cornell, Gregg Allman, Chester Bennington and, most recently, Dolores O’Riordan of The Cranberries.
Songwriter Diane Warren called the loss of Petty a shame, adding “There are so many great artists who didn’t have to go.”
Country superstar Reba McEntire called Petty a great mentor, a cool dude and a sweet person. She says what she loved about Petty was that “he knew what he wanted and he wasn’t going to take any route left or right.”
The 60th annual Grammy Awards are underway with the first awards being handed out in the dance and electronic music categories.
LCD Soundsystem won the first awarded handed out Sunday during the Grammys pre-telecast ceremony that hands out dozens of honors in various genres.
The festivities are being led by musician Paul Shaffer, who laid out the ground rules: including telling winners to stand up and announce themselves when they win.
LCD Soundsystem won for best dance recording for its song “Tonight.”
No one from band was on hand to accept the honor, which led Shaffer to call over a young woman who was on stage to assist winners and by calling her “darling” and handing her the Grammy.
Shaffer told the woman, “When I say darling, I mean it with the utmost, #MeToo kind of respect.”
The sea of black at the Golden Globes has given way to a small forest of flowers at the Grammys.
Plenty of musicians and artists took to the red carpet Sunday sporting white roses to show their solidarity with the Time’s Up organization, which hopes to support women with legal and financial help who raise sexual misconduct complaints.
Allen Hughes is the director of the “The Defiant Ones” and wore two small roses on his lapel.  He says he believes every voice should be heard and that’s why he wore the roses. Plus, he says, “I’m a feminist.”
Most stars wore black and a Time’s Up pin in support of the movement at the Golden Globes earlier this month. Fewer wore roses at the Grammys, but some were just being rock stars.
Songwriter Diane Warren skipped the rose but wore two white gloves — one with the word “girl” and one with “power.” She’s a nominee for the 15th time.
She says, “I didn’t want to wear the rose. I’m a rebel.”
Though Adele’s win for album of the year at last year’s Grammys wasn’t a complete surprise, it marked another loss for Beyonce in the show’s major category.
The Recording Academy was heavily criticized for not rewarding “Lemonade,” an album that moved the needle and dominated pop culture in different ways than Adele’s colossal sales.
Critics felt the Academy failed to recognize the artistic elements of an R&B-based album, in the same ways they have passed over albums by Kanye West, Eminem and Mariah Carey for projects by rock, country and jazz artists.
But Sunday’s Grammys are almost guaranteeing this year is different. Most of the album, song and record of the year nominees are rap, R&B and Latino artists, including Jay-Z, Kendrick Lamar, Bruno Mars, Luis Fonsi and Childish Gambino.
the thing journal, 3.26.2017
review-like bitlets of the 7+ new things i took in last week.
this week: the bombpops, lupe fiasco, 10 cloverfield lane, andrew mcmahon, halocene, the age of spin, the menzingers, beauty & the beast (2017). if you’re spoiler-averse, maybe don’t check out what i have to say about 10 Cloverfield Lane?
1) Fear of Missing Out, by The Bombpops: This album feels like home. I stumbled across this band because I was trying to find pop/punk acts with female involvement/influence, because hey maybe if I'm going to be writing extensively about the genre I should know more than three punk acts with girls in them? And I heard some song they made in 2012 or so and was impressed enough, and then I learned they had an album drop THIS YEAR! And I came away really impressed, especially by the title track. A lot of this album is love songs and break-up songs that are meant to get precisely at my nostalgic sweet spot AND I AIN'T MIND THAT ONE GOT DAMN BIT but "F.O.M.O." is an astoundingly mature song. I might be misinterpreting things, but it sounds like the band's thinking about where they're at in their music career, and how long they can continue keeping up the party before they realize they've seen/done everything and have to pack it in, it's this really cool blend of energy and introspection, and it gets me at this point in my life where I'm kind of in the same place except I've never made anything as dope as this album, but like I get that line, "I work at 9 AM, but I'm still throwing up." Never, um, Never quite been there myself, but I get what it's like to go to your normal job after throwing yourself into the thing that doesn’t give you health insurance. Even beyond that, there's a lot that I absolutely fucking love about this album, and I'm glad to have found it.
2) DROGAS Light, by Lupe Fiasco: From what I'd heard, I was prepared for this to be Certainly An Album, but I'm here to tell you: it's not that up its ass! It's still there, but only as far as your standard Lupe Fiasco album. It's not Tetsuo & Youth, but I'm not gonna be angry at an album for not being a masterpiece, y'know? I don't think it's inaccessible or overly self-indulgent, but y'know what, seeing that I had to type “not inaccessible or overly self-indulgent,” I'm willing to admit I'm something of a Lupe stan, and I could see how this album cover could appear for the non-believers as a glowing neon sign that says FOR SUPER-FANS ONLY, so I'ma hold off on recommending it. Hell, I'm not sure how often I'm gonna come back to this one. It's fine! Don't take my word for it, though. I'm an unreliable source.
3) 10 Cloverfield Lane, dir. Dan Trachtenberg: That first scene after the title card is so fucking good. The set design for Mary Elizabeth Winstead's room is on point, there's this stain on the ceiling that is never explained, the way there's like two different walls, it really feels like a hovel (and that makes the reveal of the rest of the shelter so much more interesting, how the parts of the room John Goodman designed for himself are so involved and furnished and filled with love, and then MEW's room is clearly just the pit where he keeps girls), but the way it's shot in that scene is insane. They make it feel like the largest room in the world when MEW's trying to reach for her clothes and phone, and then the space tightens up COMPLETELY the second we hear John Goodman's footsteps. The suspense in that scene is palpable, and the film more or less maintains it through the entire film. (More or less. Boy, that scene where they're playing Taboo is ham-fisted! "Hu-durr, what word is woman? I know it's been established I'm pretty much a pedophile, but I also don't know the word 'woman!'") And even though the movie largely takes place in the bunker, every scene in the bunker manages to feel like it takes place somewhere different. I'm not even getting into how this is an entire movie about three people in one location in a wide-release, brand-name sci-fi film, where the stakes are almost the smallest possible: leave the house, stay alive. Even if I didn't like it, I would still defend this film, because more like it need to exist.
4) Zombies on Broadway, by Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness: Boy, there sure is a lot happening in every single second of this record! I'm sure this arena pop would play well in, y'know, an arena, but it doesn't make for the calmest listening experience. It's really hard to find the heart of these songs, to find something to which I can connect, because there's so much overgrowth through which I need to cut. Weird Chainsmokers-y electronic influence here, overdramatic Coldplay flourishes there, vocals always always at 100, it's all So Much. I know there's a lot of heart here, this is a name I have trusted since I was a kid, but this album is so disorienting, I can’t even tell where to begin looking for that heart.
5) Can You Hear Us Now? by Halocene: oh sure yeah probably a lot of merit in evaluating a six-year-old pop/punk album On the plus side, because 2011 is one of those years where I was still committed to buying music instead of paying a flat monthly fee to have everything all the time forever but also was incredibly poor, this currently ranks as one of my Top 10 albums of 2011! Congratulations! I could see 2011 Bob touting the virtues of this album, though, there's a lot of charm, a lot of potential, enough cool things happening I'd be stoked to hear a full album of Halocene originals in 2017. But yeah I'm only here to say, hey, this is one of the albums I listened to this week, but I'm not gonna go all in on a debut album from 2011 because why, like yay active listening never stop thinking and all that, but what good would putting opinions on this into the world do anyone. What good have any of our opinions done, if we're being perfectly frank. Can You Hear Us Now? is the early front-runner for the title of "Most Innocuous Thing to Send Bob! Into an Existential Tailspin" for 2017.
6) The Age of Spin, by Dave Chappelle: BOY AM I OUTTA MY DEPTH WITH THIS ONE Like I thought it was kind of unfocused, but that's to be expected, it'd been years since Chappelle had to structure an hour of stand-up. I think Chappelle knows that, at this point, the mythology surrounding him is what people want him to talk about, and he's at his best here when he follows that arrow. When he's not talking about his own celebrity, the special falls flat; bits offering social commentary don’t hit, because they're the opinions everyone expects a 40+-year-old comic who was, literally, out of touch for several years to have, and they feel perfunctory, like Chappelle knows he doesn't have anything worthwhile to say about transsexuals, but he has to say it because people expect him to comment on the state of the world in 2017. But the bits about him -- bombing so hard in Detroit it goes viral, meeting OJ Simpson, his relationship with Kevin Hart ("That was a surprise to me. He charges $125 a ticket? I only charge $80!"), reconciling what Bill Cosby means to him with who Bill Cosby is, they're so good, well worth wading through clumsy throwaway jokes. It's not Chappelle at his best, but it's Chappelle.
7) After the Party, by The Menzingers: Punk is sort of becoming the millennial country, listen I know that's a bad sentence but you see it's a sentence I thought and I need on the record all the terrible things I think so that you may paint an accurate and complete picture of who I am and I’m making myself own it, punk is the millennial country! There's a lot of dope country artists, but even the good ones are still making music about being farmers and drinking whiskey. Punk music is in this groove where there's so many bands talking about issues people might actually be going through. This album references having useless college degrees, working at a job that doesn't guarantee hours, still sitting in basements getting high in your 30s, meeting up with an old friend who got their life together and remembering a youth spent sneaking out of church, seeing the foreclosure sign outside your childhood home, it's as country as anything can be while being so about city life. It's an album about what the new working class goes through. The band is thinking The Hold Steady and Springsteen, and of course they are, but albums like this are what can help bridge the gap between the Real America crowd and those goddamned millennials.
8) Beauty & the Beast (2017), dir. Bill Condon: So like my problem with these movies is, and this is prolly just me and I'm cool with that, I get that they're wondrous experiences, but I can never stop thinking about an actor sitting in the middle of a wide expanse of green, reacting to nothing. It's one of the reasons why I stopped watching Game of Thrones despite knowing some of it is filled on location, and it's what removed me from this film, watching the "Be Our Guest" sequence and thinking "she's looking at a marker" every time they cut to Emma Watson laughing. I'm never going to understand why these films try to split CGI and live-action down the middle, but a lot of people evidently dig it, so clearly the problem is with BIG FANCY BOB, WHO LISTENS TO FILM PODCASTS AND THINKS HE CAN HAVE OPINIONS. BAD OPINION BOY, THAT'S WHAT BOB STANDS FOR. Also, for all the talk of how gay this movie was, this movie wasn't nearly gay enough. It could have been, like, three times as gay, and it still wouldn't have been gay enough, that's how straight this movie was. ("What amount of gay would've been right?") I don't know, I would have had to have been involved with the editing process, this is sort of a "say when" situation.
