⇨ Masterlist ⇦
It had been nearly three weeks since anything eventful had happened. It was like after those first few days went by, things came to a halt. Jungkook was still finding dates and taking them to the coffee shop every once in a while. Chaerin had to stop herself from spitting in the girls’ coffee before she handed it to them.
Nari was being more giddy than usual, especially after that weird might in the kitchen with Chaerin. She seemed to be trying to hang out with the three other girls all the time, but they were all getting busy. Hyomin seemed to be always with her new boyfriend of one month that she wouldn't let anyone meet, Kiseung was constantly working or planning her wedding, and Chaerin was busy with work and school. She was also busy being upset over Jungkook, but she wasn't going to say anything to any of them about it.
She wanted to so bad, but they would all just call her crazy for being in the situation in the first place.
Soon enough, another month had gone by, and Kiseung was bugging Chaerin to go on another double date with her. She said she really enjoyed the first one and wanted to go on another one sometime in the next week.
“Chae, are you alright?” Jungkook asked with a frown on his face. He and Chaerin had gotten to know each other very well over the past month despite Chaerin’s complicated feelings, and they seemed to grow closer every day. She would always rant to him when she was having a bad day and he would listen to her.
Everything was perfect if you exclude the amount of girls Jungkook was juggling at once. The most frustrating thing was that he didn’t like any of them all that much.
“I still need to find the one that I feel is special,” he said with his head in his hands. She hadn't replied to his previous question, but he assumed that she wasn't planning on answering.
She patted his hand a little bit with a frown on her face.
If she was crazy, she would volunteer to marry him.
...that doesn't sound too bad…
Jungkook moved his fingers to take a peek at her before removing his hands from his face.
“Do you…do you think that I can do this? I've only got four months left to find someone willing to marry me.”
Chaerin nodded, “I'm sure you could find someone… “
But do you even consider me an option?
He sighed and rubbed his bottom lip as Chaerin’s eyes fixated on them.
God I want to kiss him again so bad.
Before she knew what was happening, she had leaned forward and placed a kiss on his cheek.
Jungkook’s eyes widened as Chaerin tried her best to pretend that she meant to do that.
“A kiss for good luck,” she shrugged, looking down at the counter. Jungkook watched her carefully as he felt his face grow hot.
After a few seconds he reached out and grabbed her chin. Her eyes moved to his as she looked at him nervously. He just smiled to her and leaned in.
His lips met her’s as her heart jumped in her chest. It had been so long since she kissed him… and it felt even more magical than she remembered. She was surprised that he didn't pull away after a few seconds and just continued to kiss her.
If the counter hadn't been separating them, Chaerin might have held onto him and never let go.
He finally pulled away after a few seconds, looking her in the eyes as he moved away from her. There was a deep blush on her cheeks as a smile spread across his face.
As if it was acceptable for him to do so, Jungkook moved away from her and the counter and started to grab his stuff.
“I've gotta head back to the office. It’s a busy day today…” he smiled and waved before rushing out the door, leaving Chaerin behind.
“What…” she mumbled to herself as she frowned.
What the h*** was that?
“Another double date?” Jungkook’s voice sounded through the phone as Chaerin nodded subconsciously, not realizing he couldn’t see her.
“Yeah. Kiseung was wanting to do it this week if possible,” she informed while trying to finish up her homework. Finals were going to come up soon and she was trying to get ahead by studying a month or two in advance. She wanted to keep her straight A’s in her classes after all.
“Well I’m free tomorrow and Saturday,” he replied as she heard a faint yell in the background. Jungkook seemed to have put down his phone as he started to scold someone nearby, “Sorry. Taehyung was being loud.”
Chaerin smiled at the mention of Taehyung’s name. She had been seeing more of him lately while working since he liked to stop by to say hi. He made sure she was doing fine before sometimes ordering his usual. Sometimes he’d stop by on his way to work since the building wasn’t far from the coffee shop.
“He’s a handful,” she said through her smile as Jungkook hummed in agreement. “But I’ll call Kiseung and see what she says. I’ll call you back if you won’t be busy in the next few minutes.”
Jungkook sighed, “I have no idea if I’ll be busy or not. I guess just call to find out.”
Chaerin nodded once again, mentally scolding herself to stop doing that, “Arraseo. I’ll call you back.”
“Okay. Take care.”
Chaerin’s eyebrows furrowed at his words as he hung up. “Take care”? Since when did he start saying that? He always ended the call with a bye or nothing at all, but all of the sudden he’s saying “take care”?
Chaerin tried to quit thinking about it as her heart started to beat louder. Just cause he told her to take care doesn’t mean anything has changed… maybe it just slipped out? Maybe it surprised him as much as it did her…
Trying to forget what had just happened, she opened Kiseung’s contact and hit the call button, feeling slightly excited about going on another double date.
It was now Saturday night and Chaerin felt her nerves creating a storm of emotions in her stomach. The four of them had planned to go to the amusement park that wasn’t far from them. Kiseung was sitting in Chaerin’s room, laying on her bed with her head hanging over the edge.
“...has Jungkook taken you out on many dates?” she suddenly asked as Chaerin was applying some eyeliner.
“Yeah…” she lied, “It’s been a while, though. Work has been hard on him these past few weeks.”
“I can tell,” Kiseung frowned as she rolled over, “I haven’t seen him hardly ever since our last double date. I was afraid that you guys were going through something bad.”
Chaerin sighed longingly, thinking about how long ago the last double date was. Since that last party, she hadn’t seen him anywhere outside of the coffee shop. He visited her nearly every day, but she only saw him for minutes at a time.
“I’ve missed him,” she confessed to her friend as she took a deep breath, “But he has a busy job. I’m just glad he had free time this week to go on this double date.”
“Yeah,” Kiseung nodded, “I’m glad, too. I’ve noticed you’ve been upset a lot recently… hopefully being with him for a long time today will be good for you.”
Chaerin softly smiled at herself in the mirror as she thought about spending the day with Jungkook… Not only was she spending the day with him, but she was spending it with him as his girlfriend…
Of course she’s his fake girlfriend, but to her it felt real.
That thought should have scared her, but it didn’t. She knew one day she would have to confront the reality, but for now she just wanted to be happy with him.
As if on cue, her phone rang. She looked at the screen before smiling and answering the call. Kiseung gave her a look as she signaled for her to put the call on speaker phone.
“Hey, I’m putting you on speaker. Kiseung’s in the room with me,” she said as she answered the phone. He let out a soft chuckle before replying.
“Hey Kiseung,” he said to her friend as she replied back with a short “hey”. “So Chae, I had Taehyung ask if he could tag along with us… Is that alright?”
Chaerin’s eyebrows raised, “Wait, really? He never said anything to me when he would stop by…”
“I know, it seems so random... “ Jungkook sighed, “But I told him he could tag along. I hope that’s alright with you and Kiseung.”
Kiseung nodded at Chaerin as she laughed, “Kiseung seems to be fine with it.”
“Great! So I’ll meet you at your place?” he asked as Chaerin nodded. She was really bad about nodding even when people couldn’t see her.
“Yep! I’ll see you soon…” she said with a smile on her face.
“Bye Chae. I love you.”
Chaerin visibly tensed at his words before she attempted to calm her heart down. He said it because Kiseung is in the room, calm down. She tried to tell herself that it was for show, but it didn’t change the fact that she was feeling hot and tingly all over.
“I love you, too, Kookie. Be careful on your way here.” she replied before hitting the end call button. Almost immediately, Kiseung let out an excited squeal.
“Omo you two are so cute!” She gushed as she got up from her place on the bed, “I ship you two soooo much!”
Chaerin blushed and smiled, “Kiseung… You’re such a great friend.”
Kiseung smiled and pulled her friend in a side hug, “I’m just really happy to see you happy! If Jungkook breaks your heart I swear I will kick his a**.”
Chaerin tried her best to not let her smile falter at those words. She kept telling herself to quit thinking about how he was already breaking her heart every day since she knew they weren’t real.
And God did she want them to be.
***
She watched Jungkook as he had his eyes trained on the road in front of him. He was softly humming to whatever song was on the radio as Chaerin sighed. He was driving her crazy and she knew it was dangerous to be staying so close to him… Even if she could, would she be willing to marry him by his deadline?
Her brain was saying no while her heart was screaming yes. If the two opposing views didn’t stop feuding tonight, she was going to look and feel so drained.
“Are you alright?” he asked her as she looked down at her lap and nodded.
“I was just deep in thought,” she shrugged, but Jungkook didn’t let her stop there.
“About what?” he asked. She should have known he was going to ask since he had been more into her business lately. She didn’t really mind it, though. It was a good sign to her heart but a bad sign to her brain.
“About who Taehyung is bringing to the date,” she was quick to lie and Jungkook seemed buy it.
“You don’t like Taehyung, do you?”
Chaerin’s eyes widened, “Mwoh? What makes you think that?”
Jungkook didn’t dare to look at her, “I don’t know, you two just seem really close. He comes by to say hi to you all the time, and you seem to be blushing right now.”
Chaerin didn’t even realize she was blushing, but she did not have feelings for Taehyung. It’s not that he was bad, but she definitely liked Jungkook more.
“Jungkook, I swear I don’t like Taehyung,” Chaerin laughed and shook her head, “I’m not big on dating, remember?”
She felt disappointed at her words as she wished she could take them back. She may not be a big fan of dating, but she was in love now and felt like she would be depressed if she quit being in a “relationship” with Jungkook.
She was in far too deep to get out… She was practically sitting down in a locked box that was filling up with water as time went on. Eventually, she would be out of time and practically drowning herself and her feelings for sitting here and letting her emotions run.
What would happen if she told Jungkook that she liked him?
Jungkook sighed and looked over at Chaerin while at a stop sign. She looked really upset and like she was fighting with herself.
“Then tell me why you’re having a civil war with yourself?” he offered as she snapped out of her thoughts.
What was she gonna tell him?
She felt herself just shrugging as Jungkook pulled the car into the parking lot, “I don’t know. This whole situation is affecting me a lot more than I want to admit. I almost told Kiseung that we weren’t really dating today because the guilt was eating me alive. Sometimes I just wish we were really dating and that there was no marriage deadline. It would make life a lot easier.”
She hadn’t realized what she had indirectly admitted until she had finished what she said. She tried to not freak out, but her heart was beating so fast that she was afraid it would burst. Did he take it the way it sounded?
“So you would date me if I didn’t have a marriage deadline?” he asked, his eyes staying in front of him. Chaerin felt her heart crush as she slightly slumped down in her seat. He didn't seem to be that affected by what she had said, and she wished she hadn’t said anything.
“U-Uh…” she cursed herself for stuttering and hesitating to answer his question. Should she admit the truth? Should she admit her feelings? Would she get another chance to if she lied about how she felt?
She just stayed silent, praying to God that words would come out of her mouth but nothing was happening. She hid her face in her hands as she sighed into them and waited for whatever was coming her way. This was completely humiliating…
After a minute that felt more like an hour, Jungkook let out a small laugh. Oh great, now he was laughing at her.
She jumped at the feeling of his hand on her wrists as her stomach churned. She was being so incredibly obvious and she didn’t know what to do about it.
He moved her hands away from her face and she mustered up enough courage to look at him. He had an amused smile on his face as she placed her hands in her lap.
“Do you actually like me?” Jungkook asked bluntly as she felt herself flinch at the words. Oh God what should she say?
What do I say?!
He let out a breath and shook his head before placing his hand on her chin.
Was this about to happen again???
He pulled her into a sweet kiss as her heart practically cried for joy. It kept telling her that this meant he liked her, but her brain continued to argue.
He pulled her closer to him as her lips moved against his. The kiss was so sweet and gentle as Chaerin’s heart felt like it was beating out of her chest. Why was this happening again? Why did he keep kissing her without any explanation?
This kiss escalated a little further than the other one as Jungkook leaned into her more. It just occurred to her how much he was leaning over the middle to kiss her, and she felt herself leaning more towards him so that he would be a little more comfortable.
Why was she letting this happen?
Jungkook’s hand moved to her hair as they continued to kiss, letting it get more and more heated as time went by.
Her heart was practically in her throat as he continued to kiss her.
Jungkook slowly pulled away and looked her in the eyes with an amused look. Before she had a chance to piece any coherent thoughts together, his lips were on her’s again, but this kiss started out even more heated than the previous one had ever gotten.
Her heart was jumping for joy as his free hand moved to run down her neck. Shivers ran down her spine as she leaned more towards him. He had her wrapped around his finger.
Which is why when she heard a tap on the window, she was about to kill whoever dared to interrupt a moment she would probably never have again.
That was until she spotted Nari who was looking into the car window with a smirk.
Chaerin’s eyes widened as she opened the door and stepped out. “Nari? What are you doing here?”
Nari sighed and watched Jungkook as he got out of his car. She was praying that we wasn’t going to recognize her from the other night.
“Kiseung called me and told me the four of us girls were going on a group date. She said Jungkook’s friend gave her the idea to invite me and Hyomin.” She answered nonchalantly as Chaerin’s eyebrows raised.
“Group date? Hyomin is coming, too?” Chaerin asked in confusion.
“Yeah, long story short, she said that we should go since we’re both dating someone and invited Hyomin and me.” Nari explained as Jungkook walked around the car and wrapped his arms around Chaerin from behind. She was about to interrogate her friend, but the presence of Jungkook behind her was too distracting for her to form a coherent thought.
“Ah,” she found herself answering as she felt Jungkook take a breath behind her.
“So who is your date?” He asked and Nari blushed and looked down. Chaerin smiled at her friend’s bashfulness as she tried to ignore her fast heartbeat.
“Uh, you actually know him. It’s Taehyung…” she answered as Jungkook and Chaerin’s eyes widened.
“Taehyung?!” Jungkook sounded almost scared and Chaerin tried to calm herself.
If she was close with Taehyung, what did she know that they thought she didn't?
“Yeah, we didn't want to make a big deal to anyone when we started to date since we didn't know how serious we would be,” she looked up at them with a sweet smile on her face, “but I really like him, so we decided it was okay to tell you guys…”
Chaerin smiled nervously, “oh… that's sweet. I'm happy that you found someone as sweet as him.”
Nari sighed and looked at Jungkook in the eyes. Her expression slightly changed as Jungkook swallowed nervously.
“Yeah, I know… I'm glad we both have guys that we know we can trust to not flirt with other girls…” she spoke as Jungkook blinked a few times. Was that directed at him? Why was she looking at him like that?
“Hey, Seyong was an a**hole. Don't think about him and just think about how you're happy with Taehyung.” Chaerin frowned, thinking that Nari was talking about her ex.
Nari seemed to be slightly surprised when she heard his name, but she played it off as if she was talking about Seyong in the first place. “I know… It just bothers me that he cheated like he did. He was sweet in the beginning…”
“I know,” Chaerin could see the day that Nari came home crying vividly in her mind, “but I'm confident Taehyung isn't going to do anything like that.”
Nari’s previous happy and soft expressions came back at the mention of his name, “yeah… I'm confident, too.”
As if on cue, Taehyung popped out from behind the opposite side of Jungkook’s car, “Annyeong!”
Jungkook felt Chaerin jump in surprise as he let out a quiet laugh and kissed her ear. After his lips left her skin, he put his head on top of Chaerin’s and looked to Taehyung. He tried to ignore the nervous feeling in his gut as Taehyung’s smile grew bigger when Jungkook looked at him.
“Hey Tae Hyung,” Jungkook spoke as Taehyung walked over to Nari and grabbed her hand in his. Nari’s face turned a deep shade of red, but she acted like it didn't affect her.
“Hey Kook,” Taehyung sighed, “I guess Nari filled you in?”
“Yeah,” Chaerin answered for him. Jungkook laughed at her eagerness before moving from behind her to grab her hand.
“It's good to finally tell you guys,” Taehyung sighed, “it was exhausting trying to keep it a secret.”
Jungkook was about to say something in reply, but before he could, Kiseung ran up with Hyomin next to her. Their dates had fallen behind the two as they exchanged a few words.
They all exchanged greetings and introduced each other before they started walking to the ticket booth.
“Hey, I haven't seen you and Mark together a lot recently. I'm surprised to see you here with him,” Chaerin spoke to Hyomin while Jungkook had fallen back to talk to Taehyung.
“We had a huge fight that lasted a while, but recently we got over it.” Hyomin replied as Mark ran up next to her and smiled to the two of them.
“Sorry Min, I was talking to Taehyung. I'm pretty sure we went to the same high school.” He continued smiling before waving to Chaerin. She just waved back and didn't say anything. She wasn't that close with Mark since he always seemed really quiet around her.
She waved bye to Hyomin before falling back to where Jungkook and Taehyung were.
“Hey,” she smiled and grabbed Jungkook’s hand with hers. He looked over at her and gave her a quick smile before turning back to Taehyung. It only took her two seconds to then realize that Jungkook and Taehyung were quietly arguing.
“So she knows?”
“Why is it a big deal if she knows?”
“Because she’ll think Chaerin is crazy.”
“She already thinks she’s crazy.”
“But I mean in a way to where it seems like we're not actually together.”
“And you are?”
“Of course we are!”
Chaerin softly squeezed Jungkook's hand before smiling nervously at Taehyung, “I understand why you would have your doubts, but I promise that we are really together. There’s no reason to worry about that.”
Taehyung looked at Chaerin with an unsure look before stopping in front of Nari and Kiseung. They had just made it through the parking lot and today was already becoming very eventful… but not necessarily in a good way.
Oooo it looks like Jungkook and Chaerin are about to be found out? o; Thank you again to everyone who is reading! Don’t hesitate to leave feedback if you want~ ^.^
