idk i think the fact that there are these weird little pockets of time in 1968 where john/paul/yoko are playing at some semblance of normalcy between the three of them suggests that john had not actually decided to give up on paul in any regard.

#i think john very much thought his new artist/activist identity with yoko and his partnership with paul could co-exist in some form #for a while #it was paul who was uncomfortable when it was clear johnandyoko was a serious thing that could compete with lennon/mccartney #and the artistic/business tensions about the future of the beatles that only mounted more throughout 1968 are the true thing #that convinced john lennon/mccartney was this limited thing #so. not india.#it's like how we all thought the get back sessions were worse than they really were until we saw proof #i feel like india and 1968 are probably painted much worse than they actually were #in reality it probably felt much more ambiguous than we make it out to be from like. the barest evidence.
