according to my notes it is one year to the day since i started reading the aubrey-maturin books
#i have never in my life been so blindsided by a series of books#i was expecting to read a couple of them - be mildly entertained - and move on#instead i got a series that somehow said a lot of things i needed to hear#right when i was at a point that i could hear it#which again is NOT what i was expecting when i picked up master and commander#and it's absolutely not the effect they would have on most people#bc the things i took out of it aren't really what the books are trying to say for the most part#it was just a format which easily conveyed ideas that challenged assumptions which were holding me back#which feels weird and a little ridiculous to say about what is ultimately just entertaining historical fiction#idk it would be interesting to try and put my thoughts on why they hit me so hard into a clearer format#but tumblr's not the right venue#anyway. wild experience. good books. here's to another year of aubreyad posting!#aubreyad
