Tw: blood, violence, death

Something. Something was wrong.

Corruption, running swiftly in her blood. Her eyes went wide, and she reared her head high, looking back, blood splattered on her forehead.

And she fled. Flew and dropped into the verdant canopy, where leaves rustled when she buried herself in a shivering mess underneath. Then leaves became an exultation of skylarks, all knowing her presence. All speckled with nebula puff on their wings.

And they hid her from the world, as she decomposed. They covered her hive-eye with their wings, so that she couldn't see herself. And they covered both her eyes when corruption became fever, and her not-eye turned blood-red, and she sang and struck them, their tiny bodies sinking into the pond.

Those were her skylarks.

And even when she lost herself, they incessantly sang to her. Until she remembered how much she loved them, at least. And now she became the hunched angel burying them.

Who would now never leave her sanctuary, who would never forgive herself, who'd long forgotten herself.

Sunlight peeked shyly through the leaves. She closed her one eye, and shut it out.
