Hey since this hugely popular post is cooled down I wanted to yap about it on alt cause it's so weirdly nostalgic to me

I knew when I made it that I'd get val Stan's out the gate and that is actually exactly what I added the "do y'all see the vision" line for. I have no hate in my heart for val Stan's, I'm nowhere near invested enough in the show anymore to have beef with 1. People who just like his design, 2. People who just like his humor/suaveness or 3. People who are just defensive because they like his writing enough to get weirdly hurt when people talk about hating a villain (it's a villain, people are allowed to hate him, no matter if they like other villains, it is entirely up to personal boundaries and triggers, don't hate people for expressing their feelings towards a character they have every right to dislike. I get that some people are aggressive about it but there's nuance in accepting that me making a meme about personally disliking a character isn't the time for that debate, yk? Separate subject ik, but had to get it out of me)

Basically, a part of the "vision" was that he's easy to hate. It's a ✨Hyperbole✨ I used to express my personal disdain for the fuckbug so I could make others laugh about also hating him. its not meant to be taken so literally that you gotta jump up let me know you're into him lol /t

And the other half of why I added the vision bit was for it being an Aro alastor joke! I was frustrated that I, an AroAce person myself, had to watch one of the only AroAce characters I'd ever seen be mostly engaged with in romantic and sexual ways. I wanted to create content for him that was honest to his identity. Especially when so many people still want to throw all meanings of no verbal literacy, and real world relevancy out the window to scream about how "HeS jUsT AcE, NoT aRo"

And yk. On top of it. I got AroAce people MAD AT ME for invading the aro tags with this post! A GROWN ASS ADULT ASK BOXED ME ABOUT ITTT, AND GOT IN AN ACTUAL DEBATE WHERE THEY ASSUMED THAT I WAS JUST SOME GOOFY, TWEEN OBSESSED WITH "MY BLORBO" WHO WAS STUPID FOR DEFENDING MY REPRESENTATION THE BEST I COULDDDD. IT WAS SO SILLY AND IMMATURE AND IM STILL SALTY ABOUT IT LMAO.

It was just. So weird to me to watch my own community stereotype and invalidate me. And I don't even blame them! Alastor is so over sexualized that seeing him as ace rep is genuinely hard, ignoring the fact they might hate the show as is. That's how widespread Alastor's Tumblr manification is. It honestly sucks. I get how frustrating it must be to be force fed these scraps of representation, seasoned with R34 and 9999 word ship fics, in a restaurant you don't even like. I get that you're sick of him. And at this point I'm over it. I just. Need to get it out there that for a solid week maybe it did hurt my feelings. Complain about his ass being in the tag everyday of the week, honestly I would remove him from the tag at this point if I could access this account but just understand that behind the stinky man was an AroAce teen trying their best not to hate their identity by making a meme to validate themselves, yk? Aros gotta support Aros even when we don't like each other's fandoms lol.

TLDR: I'm just so nostalgic for me predicting so well that a handful of people just. Wouldn't get the vision. And even tho I'm not really into the show anymore I'll always have my own silly love for this post not in spite of the minor controversy around it, but BECAUSE of it. It's nice too me to have 1. Been straight up about how I felt about something enough to have people be mad at me (even if it was light hearted and sneaky) and 2. To have not wimped out over it. You don't know me well enough to know but that's actually kind of something to note for me. I've always been SOOO aggressively afraid of people disagreeing with me that even tho this was NO WHERE NEAR ENOUGH SERIOUS for me to actually have any real strong feelings about it, I am a little bit proud of myself for not doing the easy thing and deleting it. Especially when I checked Pinterest and saw HOARDS of val fans pissed at me over it lol.

It was just. Such a casual sign of how far I'd come. A tiny little scrap of evidence of how I'm not the weak willed mess of a kid I used to be. Something to look at to know that I'm actually doing pretty okay, yk?

Beautiful to me not because it was a big deal, but beautiful to me because it wasn't. Beautiful to me because for once I didn't have to care.

Ok I’m gonna be a little salty on main for once because this meta is KILling me

So salt warning for below and also spoiler warning for boss phase mechanics, I won’t say the name of the boss or enemies tho so people who haven’t finished EoD can still look:

Alright, First thing I HATE about this meta is the startup time.

For some reason this meta is on a timer, now I have never been a fan of metas that progress via timer's, but my extra problem with this meta is that there's a map mechanic that makes you think it is a progress based startup rather than a time based one.

Each area of the map you can get to a certain readiness level, so you'd think once it gets to high a timer would start counting down till the meta..right?

No, readiness in the area just gives you a 5% damage buff against the enemies, even if every area is at high readiness you still have to wait up to a FULL HOUR, for the actual meta to start.

Maybe this wouldn't be a problem to me if I didn't get so bored on that map, but I feel like the events that happen are way too spread out and infrequent to actually give you something to do most of the time.

And again, if you have achieved full map readiness, then that means you've already completed a bunch of events on the map.

The actual beginning phases of the meta I have no problem with, yeah it's a little dumb that the escorts get distracted and attack every enemy in their path, and I wish the energy throwing mechanics were better explained, but overall it's fine.

Then you get to the boss which...ugh.

Look, I have nothing against a difficult boss. I don't mind the interesting mechanics, or the large AoE's (though I do feel it is a bit dumb)

BUT The amount of immortality phases this boss has paired with the timer. IT IS IMPOSSIBLE.

The boss will constantly move in ways that make them unable to be hit, will go in to immortality phases a bunch, all while the timer still goes.

The bosses breakbar shows up sporadically and sometimes at the same time as another part of the boss that you have to fight ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE PLATFORM. And when the breakbar does show up, it's only there for a short while so you'd better hope everyone has 50 cc skills and EMP's equipped.

I have done this meta multiple times now, some times in random PUGs, other times in coordinated discord groups.

Each time they have FAILED.

No mater how much the commander explains the meta, no mater how hard everyone tries.

They have always failed for me, and I know a lot of other people have had similar experiences.

And it's just so annoying because there are people with a lot less time to play the game than me, and they are locking the SEIGE TURTLE behind this meta.

Again I don't mind a meta being harder than usual, but when I am in coordinated discord groups, where people are trying to run raid builds, have EMP's (which are from a mastery that isn't even part of EoD), full stacks of the offensive and defensive buffs, and ascended foods.

and we STILL CAN'T BEAT THE META

that's just too much.

Honestly I think they need to scale this meta down by a bit, because let's be real Guild Wars 2 is an MMO, you're supposed to be able to complete things in the game worlds with the random people there.

I get that there's some late game players that want harder content, but that's what Raids and Strikes are for, and if they're going to lock a whole ass MASTERY behind this meta, then it'd better be at least somewhat completable.

I know Anet is planning on making the turtle available with another route, but that still doesn't solve the overall problem of the meta being incompletable.

I think they need to make the start up time dependent on map readiness, make the boss move less or stop being in long animations where their immortal, maybe lower the bosses health or at least make the breakbar a more consistent thing. I want this boss to actually be possible to beat.

Okay so first off; in terms of Actual redesign, I didn't change a whole lot. I'm actually very fond of Jack and Maddie's design's, my only real issue was with their proportions. Like...look as a lady person who is also thiCC I do not have a fucking wasp thin waist and I'm sure I'm not the only one, lmao. As for Jack? Godamnit he looked like a brick on toothpicks. Just Let him be a fucking Bara man! Anyway of course I asked Gally to do this one bc they're fucking great at drawing different body types

I also cannot and will not take credit for Jazz's outfit. I didn't have any issue with her canon clothes aside from them being a bit plain, so what she's wearing here was literally pulled straight off of her original concept art, which I will link here.

Anyway, getting to the Actual character lore now, let's start with

Maddie Fenton

-Full name is Madeline (I haven't decided on a maiden name yet)

-Born and raised on a farm in Arkansas, had a southern accent that she trained herself out of in college bc it was just one more reason for people not to take her seriously. Still sometimes uses "y'all" completely unironically bc old habits die hard.

-She has a really big family, and they're proud of her accomplishments but feel like she's wasting her talent studying ghosts, because really, up until the Fenton portal was up and running there wasn't even any solid proof they existed. Her sister Alicia is the one outlier there, and even if she doesn't understand, it she completely supports her.

-She majored in engineering and minored in psychology at Wisconsin EDU. Her, Jack and Vlad were all in the same engineering class, and that's where they met.

-Maddie is particularly interested in how ghosts think, analysing their behavior, their motives. Not only that, but they aren't just dead people with unfinished business, they've built an entire culture in the Ghost Zone that is completely seperate from humanity, and she wants to understand all of it.

-skilled marksman and 9th degree black belt, (which is. The highest fucking level there is holy shit? I looked it up after I saw it on her wiki page.)

Jack Fenton

-He's from Minnesota (Amity park is in Illinois and him and Maddie didn't move there until after they got married) 

-okay, "but why minnesota specifically" you ask? Because. I crave. Foot ball discourse. 

-minnesota vikings vs green bay packers guys do you UNDERSTAND WHERE IM GOING WITH THIS 

-The funny thing is that Jack only watches football casually while Vlad is a fucking die hard so when these two got together to see a game it was like....

-Jack: Here to chill and have a good time.

-Vlad: Primed and ready to start a fist fight at any given moment.

-I am never not going to be salty about how Canon Jack was portrayed like a complete moron 99% percent of the time. Like no...theres a difference between Actual Stupid and ADHD induced dumbass-ery.

-Am I saying Jack Fenton has ADHD? Yes. why? Because I also have ADHD and I have always vibed So Hard with his Character.

-Jack is loud and easily excited about things that interest him. He's impulsive and fidgety and yeah, a bit absent minded. He has a mouth that clearly runs so much faster than his head. His train of thought doesn't get derailed so much as it stops and takes several different detours on the way to it's final destination.

-and that's only the tip of the iceberg, really, I'd need an entire essay to get into this completely, but I just really relate.

-Jacks skill-set / interests regarding ghosts vary a bit from Maddie's, most notably in the sense that he doesn't believe that they're static entities already set in their ways, completely incapable of change.

-Jack majored in engineering and minored in Biology at Wisconsin EDU.

-Jack's work with tech is a bit hit or miss. He definitely HAS the engineering skills, but the intrest isn't always there and he's constantly jumping back and forth between different projects. He tends to focus on the concept work and schematics and leave most of the assembly to Maddie as a result. It's an arrangement that works well for them, and has drastically decreased the number of unintentional explosions in the lab.

-A lot of Jack's work tends to revolve around ghostly biology and Ectoplasm, figuring out how ghosts are made, what makes them tick, what the hell Ectoplasm Actually Is, how it's used as an energy source, ect.

-and yes, that does also mean he handles the dissections.

-See that facial scar? Yeah, that's not actually there at the start of the series rewrite but it's very important for plot reasons so I had to include it. Can't say much more on the subject because SPOILERs owo.

Jasmine Fenton

-Jazz is a 18 years old, and a senior at Casper high.

-Which means she prepping to go away to college and won't be around to keep an eye on Danny.

-Obviously that doesn't mean I'm just writing her out of the story, oh no. Know why? Because she's also gonna go to Wisconsin EDU. ya know who else is in Wisconsin? Fuckin' Vlad.

-Jazz is autistic, Although she passes for neurotypical in part due to symptoms being completely over looked in girls due to gender stereotyping and also the fact that she doesn't have any special interests that are considered " "too weird.""

- Her hyperfixation with psychology started at a young age in an effort to better understand people, and social/emotional cues and all that.

-Jazz is well liked at school but she's not popular or apart of any specific group or clique. She's very kind and compassionate to people, and just about everyone knows her, but you'd be hard pressed to find someone who actually Considered her a friend. Except maybe Spike.

-I'm gonna have to give spike his own Character ref at some point, but he's this scary looking goth kid that's been held back twice. He's actually super sweet, just really fuckin' quiet and anxious. Him and jazz kinda ended up gravitating towards each other. She might do most of the talking, but they look out for each other.

-its not like jazz doesn't try to socialize, but it's difficult and she's found it much easier and less stressful to just. Keep to herself and let her interactions with her peers stay shallow and superficial. Sure, it's lonely sometimes but it's better than constantly worrying about saying the wrong thing or making some other misstep.

-One of Jazz's other special interests is football, and it's not so much the players or the game as it is the strategy of it? Started out as one of those things you do to bond with your dad, and she ended up getting really into it.

-She absolutley winds up getting into stupidly intense discussions with Vlad about it, too, lmao.

-Her and Danny probably bonded over SBNation bc that shit has both sentient satellites and ridiculously complex football mechanics.

-She's completely oblivious to the fact, but Dash has a massive crush on her bc holy shit this girl understands football (hey bud your toxic masculinity is showing put that shit away)

-I mentioned that Danny was in Cheer for a bit in middle school so it makes sense that she'd also be pushed into doing some kind of extracurricular activity.....so.....she was in a martial arts class for a bit thanks to Maddie and has a good grasp on self defense.

I think that's everything? I feel like I'm leaving things out tho? Idk if I did I'll come back and add on to this later and also pls don't hesitate to ask questions bc it really helps me flesh things out better.

I know that my opinion, as a one Shoma fan in a midst of shomaposting, can be easily dismissed for bias reasons. But I still want to say some things regarding this ask and one of the previous ones (sorry about hijacking your asks again @petitmimosa 🙏)

Okay. Was what Shoma had said about young women right? No. It's not okay to call all of them stupid or scary or boycrazy, essentially. He shouldn't have said that. Yes, people can take offence with it and stop supporting him, it's totally valid. As a woman myself, I'm not a fan of the things he said either. But as said above, most (not all) people like bring this up not as a good faith argument, but as a reason to hate on him, to justify their takes on how he doesn't deserve anything he achieves etc.

Because if those people truly cared about the morality of this situation, they should've also mention how in the same breath he said that he hates animals, hates kids; doesn't like relationships and people in them, doesn't really have deep connections with other people, he doesn't trust them; the world isn't good and he doesn't like humans in general; doesn't understand and doesn't like himself.

And this is the guy that was put under a lot of pressure and expectations he didn't know how to manage; haven't been doing well for a while before it; parted with coaches who'd been practically raising him; decided to go coachless after all tries; didn't enjoy skating and was thinking about retirement; probably some other things we don't even know about. A couple of months from that IDF 2019 happened.

Does all of this tells you something about the place he was in at that moment? Don't you think it's shoud've been more of a concern? Does this give you, not an excuse, but a different perspective on why he said some things he might not necessarily truly believe in? Does any of this gets mentioned when you ask on twitter (and here too) why people shit on him so much? No, you only get 'yeah, he's a fucking misogynist, he said he hates women, probably just an incel'. And he's a public figure, he will never be free of it, apology or not. You know, 280 characters still can allow some nuance, but only if you want to. Mental health awareness my ass.

And just to be clear, you absolutely can criticize the things he said and be upset with him for that. Hell, you have plenty things to criticize his skating for, he's not some flawless skater and a lot of his fans are aware of that, I promise. You can criticize his scoring too (but also remember that skaters are not at fault for scoring issues). You can also just dislike him for no particular reason, it happens too. But it should not be used to justify all that venom and hatred people put out in the open because he outplaced their fave or just because they feel like it today. That's where the problem is.

If eventually it'll turn out he is a misogynist after all, I will put my clown wig back on and will shut up forever. I won't support him anymore. You won't hear a good word about him. This is not about blind support.

But I also want to remind you, that we could never know for sure, is he like this or not at his heart. We are not his friends, not his family. We only see the persona people put out in the world, we can never truly know if people are who we think they are. Someone can be any -ist possible and you would never tell. You can only hope your judgement of the character is right. And I choose to give Shoma benefit of the doubt and believe in him, until something can change my mind.

Quickly adressing another thing: if at any point Marin will say that she was mistreated in any way by Shoma (which relationships, mind you, have not been confirmed by them much less the details and dates that also are none of our damn business), I couldn't be supporting him anymore either, obviously. Not with the passion I am now, not with my heart, not in good faith and with clear conscience. And I will fly to Nagoya/ Champéry to kick his short ass myself. (But for now, please, let's not call a 17yo Shoma predatory for something sounding like a joke, that he might or might not have even said on some dinner between families)

sorry to bring back the shoma videogame shit, but i would say that it's not completely insane of people, especially women, to be offended by what shoma said, and i mean, you can stop supporting/not support an athlete for like literally any reason. but at the end of the day it's up to people to decide who they want to support and what they choose to accept, the same way that there's people still supporting nathan after his lowkey homophobic remarks (one could argue that well, nathan unlike shoma apologized, but we all know that that apology was scripted af). i'm rambling a bit but basically i think we can understand why people dislike shoma, the same way i don't think we should frame people who like shoma as like, disgusting misogynists lmao

My issue is how they keep bringing this up like they just need a reason to hate on him, when the boy has said nothing in over 3 years and otherwise has never shown any misogynistic behavior.

That's how the world works nowadays though, make one mistake and you're done.
