Hello! I read an ask from a few months back (I think it was from august) were the question was about the ending you would like, in the answer you mentioned giving Shigaraki a redemption arc. It was also written that the ending you wanted wasn't possible at that point.
I wanted to ask, if you still have that idea in mind, at what point of the story would you redeem Shigaraki, or what would you change to achieve that?
Thanks in advance for your time :]
Hi @the-useful-disaster ๐Ÿ‘‹
It is true that I would give shigaraki a redemption arc. However, there isn't a particular moment that pinpoints when shigaraki will get that redemption arc. This is because, to me, shigarakis whole journey in the series should have been a redemption arc where he evolves and flourishes as a character.
Now, I think shigaraki is a hard character to give an original arc to because I honestly don't want to go down the route of making him a hero for the villains since I think nine does that soo much better.
Due to this, planning and creating a different path for shigaraki has been difficult, I suppose. However, I think that shigaraki should have a very similar arc to zuko's redemption arc from atla.
By this, I mean have shigaraki actively seek validation from AFO. Have him do what he does out of selfish type of desires and grief for the childhood that was robbed of him due to the system. Shigaraki is so entagled in AFO'S manipulation and standard that he does anything to appease him. However, as time goes on, things slowly change with shigaraki feeling betrayed by AFO'S absence and building up a hatred that he takes out on society.
He becomes a leader edged by AFO, yet he isn't connected to the league. The league here falls apart easily as shigaraki heads into a journey of self-discovery, figuring himself out and what he believes. A raised puppet breaks out of the chains his creator casts him in, and now he has to live and experience the world through new nuanced eyes. This leads to various situations occurring, which all lead to shigaraki going off the rails murdering AFO and shifting from a villain to a morally grey vigilante who would end up helping izuku.

Of course, there are many things that happen before shigaraki reaches this point, and izuku will definitely be someone who kick-starts this type of development in shigaraki.
Note : iam not having AFO manipulate shigaraki since birth!!
