I originally was gonna skip this one bc the main pairing is uh about a guy and his step-son 🧍‍♀️. extremely questionable rship and he does get called "dad" when theyre fucking but my 4th wall must be made of titanium bc I was able to look past that due to the way the story was written. it deals a lot with the mc's guilt about failing his family and not being able to raise his step-son, and he blames himself for why his step-son turned out the way he did. a wild ride with the most HWOOOO spicy scenes that i would definitely give a try if you're able to like look past the inherent weirdness of the rship.

fly me to the moon - God this one started out so promising but as soon as the main pairing was established the MC's personality went poof 😭 WHAT HAPPENED TO MY NO-NONSENSE SARCASTIC CHAIN-SMOKING MOMMY....THEY TURNED HER INTO A TYPICAL DAMSEL IN DISTRESS 😭😭 this also was giving "I can't believe it's not omegaverse!!" bc they were talking about like pheromones and scenting and imprinting, it had me going "is this straight omegaverse.....??" I think I knew it was time to drop this when I started caring more about the unhinged insane 2nd ML that everyone hates more than the main couple bc at least he elicits an interesting rxn from the MC rather than the boring ass vanilla insta-love vibes of the main pairing. maybe I just have weird taste 😭

why Ophelia couldn't leave - once again started off promising but started going downhill once the main pairing was established 😔 I think it's bc I was expecting more of a battle of wits or mutual manipulation story, but there wasn't a whole lot of that. i thought the ML's personality was quite flat, bc although i am biased towards obsessive characters, the way he was written just didn't click with me since he has no depth besides "I love ophelia". I did think the slow reveal of the truth behind the parents' death was interesting, they do feed you some info bit by bit, and Ophelia's unreliable narration also helped with the mystery. honestly I was a little mad when I finished this one bc I lowkey felt like I wasted my time 😭

taming the tiger (18+) - by the same author as "miscreants and mayhem", this one was A Ride. this pairing is the definition of matching each others' freak and it also had the best spicy scenes out of all the ones i've read so far like they made me go aWOOGAAAAA!!!!! it can get quite sad near the end but i personally LOVED the way it ended with the side stories....the soulmate-ism of it all.......i would highly recommend this one if you're looking for like something that will make you Feel Things.

walk on water (18+) - by the same author as "under the green light", this one was the most grounded and realistic bl manhwa i've read. at times it gave off almost indie movie vibes with the way the dialogue was written. it deals with discussions surrounding the ethics of like the gay porn industry and the stigma that is attached to sex workers in that industry. would definitely give this one a read!!

codename: anastasia (18+) - the only reason i'm continuing this is bc i think it's finally getting to the good shit after an entire season of me wanting to grab the MC by the shoulders and yelling "HELLO????? YOUR PARTNER IS SUS AS FUCK WAKE UP!!!!!!!!!!!!" for a spy he is kind of stupidt 😭despite that though i did like the banter between the 2 leads, and i'm really curious to see how they will interact in the new season now that uhhhh Shit Happened. anyways huge warning for non-con between the 2 leads like. it was fucked up man.

the ghost's nocturne (18+) - i love supernatural stories, especially ones that deal with folk horror and curses and ghosts, so obvs i liked this one. the art style for this one is SO GOOD, each panel is coloured so beautifully and rendered so well shit had me staring at each panel going "HOW?????" the rship between the nok and jaeshin was pretty iffy in the beginning but it improves pretty quickly once jaeshin explains wtf is going on and they come to an agreement. anyways i'm enjoying this one so far and i am also in love with jaeshin, unfortunately i am not immune to sexy half-ghost man 😔. warning for non-con/dub-con between the 2 leads in the beginning.

steel under silk (18+) - listen when i heard this one was a joseon-dynasty enemies-to-lovers revenge story my ass was clicking into it IMMEDIATELY. i do admit the beginning is a little rough since our MC was acting mainly on impulse and doesn't really have a long-term game plan, but he smartens up and starts to actively scheme around the 20-episode mark. it's so nice seeing both yeonjo and heeryang's perspectives and their thought processes, they each know the other person is scheming and they're constantly thinking of ways to out-scheme the other person to get the upper hand (yeonjo's goal is to gain the governor's trust so he can create an opportunity to assassinate him, while heeryang suspects yeonjo wants to kill him so he constantly blocks opportunities/creates obstacles to make sure he never gets a chance). i am really really curious to see what direction the story takes, especially with the recent chapters that have come out. it's really hard for me to read enemies-to-lovers stories and not compare it to captive prince, which i still consider to be the creme-de-la-creme of enemies to lovers, but so far this one is very promising. warning for dub-con between the 2 leads, and non-con between the MC and another character.

dreadful night (18+) - really unique premise, basically our MC is stuck in a slasher horror game, and he needs to clear all of the endings in order to escape. i'm really enjoying this one bc it's clear the author is a horror-enjoyer with the way they're so knowledgeable about tropes and death flags and like the mechanics of horror games, that has a horror enjoyer myself it made me go "ohohohoho....." they should make more transmigration stories where they transmigrate into a horror game, enough with the fantasy/otome games!!! give me stories where people transmigrate into silent hill or something!!! the ML seems to be an NPC who's sentient and aware of the game, but he also seems a little obsessed with our MC (in a yandere way) so i'm curious to see what his deal is.

toxin (18+) - i usually give something like 20 episodes before i decide if it's for me but like 6 episodes in i went "brother eughhhh". it's an enemies to lovers story but the ML gave me the biggest ick. idk if i just dropped it too early but it's giving colonizer romance (like the ML literally hunted the MC's people for sport and doesn't see them as individuals, he views them as livestock and lower beings). i do get it's enemies to lovers, but this particular brand doesn't appeal to me.

smyrna and capri (18+) - once again by the same author as "miscreants and mayhem" and "taming the tiger", i got curious about their other works since i really enjoyed what i've read from them so far, so i decided to open my heart and try reading an omegaverse story. i think i can conclude that i really don't like omegaverse bc i liked everything about this story except for the pregnancy and pheromone shit 😭i would recommend this if you're a fan of omegaverse, the rship between the 2 leads is very sweet and the alpha is also very very green flag (he is so cute...i lov him...)

roses and champagne (18+) - man this one started off interesting but then went off the rails at the end and made me go "HUH????? okay i guess!!!!" also the MC is a lawyer but he can also be kinda dumb which frustrated me. i did like their relationship in the beginning, but once again Something happens near the end that made me go "oh you Crazy crazy" and i felt like they kinda speedran the ending. there are side-stories, but i honestly lost interest so i stopped following. this is going to sound deranged but this story gave off mad victuuri mafia au vibes. warning for non-con between the 2 leads near the end (where it goes off the rails LOL)

So I’ve watched a ton of reactions to ofmd (indulging the ones mentioned in your post) because I was really curious to see how people responded to a show like this and I’ve observed some THINGS

• People generally don’t like/aren’t sold by ep 1 (crazy to me since it’s one of my faves and I was hooked instantly but it). Even people that liked it don’t seem to get the tone just from one ep.

• People always end up having a favorite crew member. Very fun to see who they end up gravitating towards

• Most people believe Black Pete’s stories at first/think they will be proven right later

•Most people don’t pay attention to Jim’s pronouns unless they are already aware that they are nb/are told by commenter that they are nb

• A lot of the little jokes and clever moments and line deliveries kinda go over a lot of peoples heads

• Queer people love Stede, straight people have to warm up to him

• Most people credit Taika for this show/most straight people heard about it because of his connection to it

• I’ve only seen one person previously unfamiliar with the foot touch in ep 8 notice it

• Everyone loves Lucius

• Hardly anyone notices how romantic the moonlight scene in ep 5 is (and of course the ones who pick up on it are the gays)

• This show reads much better for gay people. Like of course, but it’s interesting to actually watch the differences in reaction to a lot of moments. I mostly like to watch people who aren’t familiar with the show at all and I like to keep the mix of people (straight, queer, poc, white etc.) diverse so that I can see how people with different backgrounds respond. Queer people 100% of the time are feeling those themes and narratives.

• Everyone always loses their shit when Karl dies

• No one ever talks about how fun Geraldo is and that’s wild to me. Loved his character so much.

• End of ep 3/ep 4 is what usually hooks people

• Most people, including the straights, actually do see the kiss coming but there are a few who are still shocked

• People want to fuck Blackbeard and Jim but what else is new

• A surprising amount of people “predict” that Ed isn’t going to kill Stede because they’re going to end up friends. Like…..yeah. He’s the main character. Idk. They kinda set that up for you.

• A lot of Ed’s vulnerable moments go overlooked

• Most people can’t believe Ed leaves the dock and freak the hell out when he goes back to being Blackbeard. Very fun reactions to those things.

• Not many people point out Izzy’s attraction to Blackbeard

All this information may be completely useless but it’s really fun to observe how people respond to this show. OFMD is UNDOUBTEDLY a show for the gays but I love that by the end most straight people also highly praise and recommend the show.

I’m gonna be honest I didn’t vibe suuuper hard with either of their wardrobes for the most part (I mean they looked great obviously but not a ton of diversity but it’s whatever still very cute) but when Harry was one tour literally every single show I would see 10-15 posts berating him and Harry L for styling him in the same type of outfit night after night, but when Louis went on tour and wore black jeans and a T-shirt night after night those same people were all over my dash screaming about how sexy he looked and the punk rock vibes and how great the outfit was and how his style is unmatched etc etc etc. and like I’m not saying this to try and hate on Louis at all bc I don’t have anything against the outfits but they were a bit basic, and yet suddenly all these people didn’t care abt wearing the same kind of thing over and over and literally every other complaint they had and were singing his praises constantly and it was just SO DIFFERENT to how people reacted to Harry. And now our beautiful boys are in the middle of the woods when suddenly SPOOKY FOG ROLLS IN WITH OMINOUS MUSIC IN THE BACKGROUND

SHIT’S ABOUT TO GET SERIOUS

Oh nooo, the fog separates them!! Wwx is worriedly calling out “lan zhan, lan zhan!”

Luckily they bump into each other pretty quick so they’re together again

Except, oops, JUST KIDDING

Wwx takes like, two steps to one side and loses lwj again. Even tho lwj is literally right there next to him

But he doesn’t know that so he’s worried and being all cute about it. He bites his knuckle and is thinking “oh noooo, what if the Smoky Owl of Evil got him?!?” So he’s calling out for him, again

EVEN THO HE’S ONLY LIKE, TWO FEET AWAY, LET ME REITERATE

LWJ seems to be able to see wwx just fine bc the look he gives him is all “r u srs, i’m right here”

Thankfully lwj is clever and makes bichen light up all blue and pretty like an epic glow stick. It matches his outfit!! (i’ve decided he did this on purpose. He definitely can control what color his sword lights up as and coordinates it accordingly with his clothes. No, i will not be taking criticisms, because I am Right)

LWJ: I’m right next to you

WWX: *surprised gasp* You should’ve said something!

Okay, pause for a moment to point out how funny the camera shots from above are. The fog almost completely obscures wwx in his dark clothes, but lwj sticks out like a sore thumb. So every time we get one of these shots, it just looks like lwj is chilling by his lonesome in this mega foggy forest lol

Oh, dude, this next part is SO FREAKING COOL

So they’re back to back still, and surrounded by Evil Fog

Lwj: wei ying, focus your senses!

The both of them close their eyes to focus intensely

the the camera is down below, angled up so that LWJ and WWX look tall and slightly elongated but in a badass way!

And then the camera circles around them slowly to really show you just how badass and good looking they are before doing a quick spin around them with DRAMATIC MUSIC in the background

Okay, i’m done geeking out about the camera shot (idk why, guys, but i love those kinds of shots. They’re so thrilling every time!!)

Now he’s chatting up the waiter for info and we get Plot Details and an ooky-spooky story about the now deceased Chang clan

I only specify this bc the Plot Device tucked in lwj’s robes starts acting up aND CAUSING LWJ PAIN!! 

NOT COOL, PLOT DEVICE, VERY NOT COOL!

Wwx is hovering all worriedly at his shoulder and mother-henning him.

The Plot Device gives LWJ a vision(!!) that sends them to the Chang clan’s residence

And we get surprise dead bodies accompanied by unholy screeching when we get there!!

Like. SO MANY dead bodies!

LWJ and WWX are Concerned!!

And that’s the end of episode 9.

This episode imo has is the best fight scene of the show. There’s more dramatic ones later on, but in terms of seeing wwx and lwj battle together in a not-ridiculously-over-the-top fashion? This one wins hands down! Gold Star to my boys!!

so he hates his dad and hopes he never sees him again bc if he does...... he wants to kill him for what Scum put him and his mom through. by default, jesse is a mama’s boy. he would do & does anything she needs of him ( + more but i’ll touch on that in a min ) bc she has done and still does so much for him. obviously when the shitty Man of the house left, she had to pick up a few jobs to support herself and jesse after just being a housewife / stay at home mom for nearly 10 years, and my boy here really thinks she’s the strongest lady he knows for real.

bc she does so much and he wants to do whatever he can to help out, jesse started getting into some major shit. he would tell his mama he was working the odd job, like mowing lawns, tossing newspapers, or just general labour work around the neighbourhood idfk whatever noble teens do to make $$$. but in reality, he was swiping bicycles off of lawns at night to sell on ebay, stealing from his friends’ parents whenever he went over to their houses, and gambling at school with his friends. now that he’s older, however, he’s moved onto bigger and better things, such as growing and selling weed to his peers. despite his mom’s impeccable efforts, she’s only one person, and he wants to look out for her just as she’s done for him his entire life. i mean yo he’s making mad money and truly believes they’d lose their house if it wasn’t for his help ?? he’s just scared deep down for his ma ok shut up.

he requested to work on making the coffees and less interacting to customers

bc he does not have enough energy to ask the same thing over and over lol

it’s fine with their manager bc his co-worker is luckily hoshi

so hoshi does the talking while jeonghan does the drinks

their shifts start right after seungkwan’s and seungcheol’s

jeonghan makes the best coffee out of the four workers in the city

seungcheol is the worst

and people love his coffee so they often ask if jeonghan is around

he often takes nap on the storage room when there are no customers 

which is also the reason why he smells like coffee all the freaking time

besides the fact he makes them, he also sleeps with the packages of coffee beans hahaha

since jeonghan is a multi-talented barista, his latte arts are very known in the city

people would tag him on social media for making such a beautiful latte art

seungcheol is so envious of him 

ofc, his rosette latte art is the best and the most wanted design

sometimes. he’d try to make cute animals

or a trail of mini hearts

but you stayed there for a while, waiting for the customers to lessen in a bit, until there were only a few of them when you made your way to the counter and a cute guy with small eyes smiled at you widely

you looked at his named tag, and it said ‘soonyoung’

then you looked at the other barista whose back was facing you

until ‘soonyoung’ cleared his throat and you snapped back to reality

this made you jump from your seat bc,, did he see you?? with his closed eyes??

“no one really approaches me except for you” he chuckled, and finally opened his eyes to look straightly at you

and you swore, a bucket of butterflies was poured in your stomach

knowing jeonghan, his shift in the coffee shop was done at that time,,,but that was the only time you found out that he likes chilling on the park

and you were taken a back bc,, you never saw him there, considering that you are always at the park too

this brought the two of you to another stage of friendship,,,when you visit jeonghan, you’d wait for his shift to finish so both of you could chill on the park and talk about stuff

if the weather’s not good, he wouldnt ask for you to stay in the cafe but you’d end up still staying bc you enjoy his presence too much

there are times when jeonghan has to work overtime,

and if there are no customers, he’d bring you to the storage room and continue to hang out with you

soonyoung gets very suspicious,,, bc he thinks you and jeonghan do something pg there

but truthfully, you were just lazily talking together

the others found out about your relationship friendship with jeonghan

and seungcheol was so sure the boy is in love with you bc he forgets his nap hours just to hang out

and he thought you are going to be jeonghan’s distraction and jeonghan would not be able to make good coffees anymore

there was a moment when you somehow realized that you already have feelings for him too,,,and you were kind of scared bc your friendship with him has grown so much and you didnt want to ruin it bc of your feelings

let’s not forget about jeonghan’s fans, right???

so one day, you were chilling with him again, when a group of girls came inside the shop

with soonyoung greeting them enthusiastically, they saw you and jeonghan being all giddy and happy while talking to each other

you were not sure if jeonghan saw it but you caught this girl giving you a glare

and she whispered smth to her friends and they gave you a glare too

when he came back to hand the drinks to the girls, one of them had the aUDACITY TO WALK ON YOUR DIRECTION AND ‘ACCIDENTALLY’ SPILL THE VERY HOT DRINK ON YOU

jeonghan for sure was so mad from what she said,, and you were not having it

jeonghan bit his proud smile from what you said, but he was still kind of mad from what the girl did to you

“pls be careful next time and try not to hurt any customer” he said, a hint of annoyance was evident in his voice

then he turned to you and whispered “come with me”

you followed him to the storage room, and the girls were left in surprise,, while soonyoung cleaned their mess

as you entered the room, you plopped down on the small seat and a pout came on your lips “they ruined my shirt” you muttered

he was getting something from his bag, then he handed you a hoodie, “change your shirt with this, i’ll be back”

then he was out of the room,,

when you replaced your ruined shirt with his hoodie, an unfamiliar manly scent lingered in your nostrils

it was jeonghan’s real scent

not the coffee scent

but his real scent that smelt so manly

when he came back, he had a cold compress on his hand, and squeezed himself beside you

the drink was spilled on your side and near your chest, so jeonghan hesitated for a second before pressing the compress

“do you want me to do it or you can do it by yourself”

you chuckled at how flustered he was, ofc, you got the compress from his hand and put it inside the hoodie

while you did that, he snaked an arm around your shoulder and pulled you closer to him

then pressed his cheek on your forehead

tbh love simon has made me wanna vent but i got no one to rlly talk to so im gonna spam my trauma on tumblr lmao... i feel like i just have so much repressed shit bc i’ve never had anyone to talk to who can relate to what i went through? obviously there are other gay ppl out there who were shit on but i don’t know anyone personally so it’s like i have all this shit built up..  like, i started coming out to very close friends. i think i came out to 3 super close friends of mine in middle school. that’s all i told. but somehow me being gay ended up getting out and so the whole school knew? so... one of my best friends gossiped i suppose and outed me. which sucks to think about. i never wanted to really think too hard about who might’ve done it. bc they were my bffs lmao i didn’t want to hate any of them..  even my best friend.. who im still super close to played a really mean “prank” on me when i came out to her. ofc i did it over email bc it was back in them daaaays.. basically she wrote me back saying how i was a disgrace to my family and that they’d never love me in a very detailed and long letter. funny, right? i didn’t think so at the time and broke down. full on mental break down happening. but then she tells me, “oh i was jk lmao” like... she didn’t just fucking traumatize me. i forgave her ofc... bc i love her and i could never lose her. but idk it stills hurts even today.  and i’ve never actually told any of my friends what i went through after i was outed. just bc idk? never came up. i was always alone when kids would pass by me and whisper that i was going to burn in hell or call me a faggot. the only time one of my friends was with me was when i was full on cornered by these older kids(cliche ik but im not jk) in gym class. she ended up getting so mad on my behalf ...no surprise i crushed hard on her lmao... she was the first girl i ever rlly fell in love with. but she was straight ofc my luck. she did let me take her to the dance tho which was super nice... even if i ended up dancing with my ex.  who was actually my first gf and the source of my current ongoing anxiety about being affectionate in public. we were like a walking freak show. everyone knew about us. theyd surround us after classes trying to get us to kiss so they could take pictures... tbh as im typing all this out it sounds like a bad gay movie. and like... even the other very out lesbian at the time hated my ass. she thought i was a fake for some reason dont ask me fuckin why..  it didn’t even stop in middle school. that shit just followed me into highschool. making it fuckin impossible for me to have a decent relationship. i dated this one girl who was just so confident and self assured... she had such a loving and accepting family.. and she wanted me to be more than i could be. she wanted me to go farther and out myself to my family.. make our relationship way more public than just highschool public. and i couldnt do it. she was too touchy and i felt like everyone had their eyes on us even if they didn’t..  people i didnt fucking know came up to me and told me my friends were cheating on me with other girls.... this part isnt rlly sad its just wild af. i always held my friends hands so obviously that meant i was dating them i suppose?? lmao that shit was just too much. total fuckin strangers telling me my friends were cheating on me... liiiiike who tf are you??  ofc there were the dickheads too who would shove their fingers in my face and ask me to sniff as if theyd actually had gotten any pussy.. tbh highschool was much lighter when it came to bullying. it was a godsend compared to middle school lmao.  tbh the worst part of the movie was the home life. simon being able to come back to a quiet loving home.. and i put en faces on the quiet part.. when i came home i came home to screaming, yelling, cussing, slamming doors to the point they fell off the hinges, punching through doors, threats, and knifes being pulled on each other. my parents called the cops several times on my one brother. it just came from all sides. no one was fucking peaceful in my family. all i ever did was hide in my room with my dog cause even she was too scared to go outside.  that didnt have anything to do with me being gay but.... its another repressed thing so lmao. im pr sure it mixes in with my inability to be able to express my emotions with people. i just bottle everything up and keep quiet bc there was never any room for me to be angry. i always had to be the mediator. even now as an adult when my parents finally have split up i had to play the nice one between the two. i had to keep the peace even as my mom screamed at me and made me cry and refused to apologize for how she treated me... i had to play nice with her bc no one else in my family could act like an adult. this ended up being way longer than intended and tbh i dont expect yall to read this bullshit but it felt nice writing it all out. again i dont have anyone to talk to who can rlly relate to this shit so lmao. even my own gf doesnt seem to rlly get it or want to talk abt it so i just was feeling so pent up and emotional. i had to let it out somewhere.

and now for a fun anecdote about jordan & crushes, under the cut cos i ain’t tryna drown everyone in my love life (or lack thereof to be more accurate) but i swear this is relevant!!

so one time a few yrs back, i had a crush on this complete stranger. i saw him once on the bus i took on my commute to school everyday. the crazy thing was, i took a bus and two subways to get to this school and he ended up being on that same bus, and later the same subway cart, which led me to believe he went to the same school as me. he did. it’s hard to make friends when you go to a commuter school. sometimes i see ppl and never see them again so i didn’t think much of this guy. he was cute was all.

later on that week i saw him waiting for the same bus going back home this time. i msged my cousins (we have a gc on katalk lmao) and was like mY DUDES. I’VE SEEN THIS CUTE GUY TWICE ALREADY. IF I SEE HIM A THIRD TIME IT’S FATE RIGHT? and they were like talk to him if you see him again.

now i’m normally not the type to talk to strangers out of nowhere ok? i mean, it’s all case by case but even tho i’m psycho crazy i’m still an introvert at heart and p shy.

BUT I KID YOU FUCKING NOT, AS FATE WOULD HAVE IT, i saw him again on the bus. this time it felt a lil like the world was pushing us together. my bus gets crowded at a certain stop in the morning cos it stops picking up people at a certain point so i’m lucky to get a seat. but there was an empty seat next to me. i knew it’d get taken though so i didn’t rly care to see who was getting on the bus (there was a huge line waiting) but when the person sat next to me i automatically looked up at them out of habit and legit did a double take bcos lo and behold it’s Bus Guy. same hat, same bag, same everything, all black getup. up close he’s cuter. i was like semi freaking out at this point. it was now or never. either i was gonna take that crazy leap of faith and talk to this guy, or regret not being the crazy one for once.

so i legit was just like hey i know this is weird but i’ve seen you on this bus a couple times already and i recognize ur bag and you go to /insert school name here/ right? and he was like !!! yeah!! and wtf we hit it off, he was very straight up and open and i LOVE that in a person. i love when they speak their mind and are receptive and all that. we were very compatible, talked like nonstop and exchanged info. he thought it was really brave of me to just suddenly talk to a stranger. i thought it was too. we were both surprised tbh. we became bus buddies. whenever we could we tried to match our commute schedules. everything was awesome, i was like i wanna be friends with this guy forreal cos like i said, it’s hard to make friends for me. or close friends at least. and commuting buddies?? the best.

turned out he had a gf and was about to graduate and was just really working on getting his life together. and when i found out he was taken i wasn’t even mad. ye i was a lil disappointed bcos imagINE but at the same time, he was such a cool dude. i gained a new friend. and knowing he had a gf meant i could get over this crush, no regrets. the worst that could’ve happened was he turned out to be a douche and then i would’ve DEFINITELy gotten over the lil crush. but he wasn’t a douche and i think it was super cool that we met like that, even if it started with me going wOW HES CUTE. and now it’s a cool story i get to tell ppl. moral of the story: make a friend if you can. take that step and i swear things will happen :’) you got this fam.

I got so hyped for parts of TFA and towards the end really enjoyed it immensely but I still feel really cheated that the beginning was so rushed. It would’ve been so easy for them to just take five extra seconds to really sink the hook into me for each of the characters from the start, but it feels like if anything was originally there it got chopped out in favor of faster, faster editing or maybe they completely forgot to put it in there to start with.

Like, what makes me a little mad is that the stuff I wanted, actually was in the film, but way later, like I expected. Like, the fact that Finn was abducted, trained all his life as a trooper, and that was the first battle he’d ever seen. If they’d taken literally a second to drop that info right at the start. And I really think that Poe should’ve actually questioned Finn and his intentions for 2 freaking seconds when they first met, bc the convo they did have... doesn’t cut it for me. Poe is the best pilot for the Resistance, he’s just been tortured for info, and he doesn’t even think that a storm trooper conveniently trying to help him out isn’t a little suspicious? It could’ve easily been a trick?? Hell, even if they had Finn, while in the tie fighter, go, ‘why do you trust me?’ and have Poe spout some sympathetic understanding for storm troopers, that would’ve helped a lot. As much as I super love Poe and Finn becoming such fast friends, their limited interaction lacked the appropriate depth, and not necessarily for lack of time together but lack of just, realistic or proper communication. Literally five, ten seconds and some extra questions and answers, like what I suspected and Phasma later said, Finn was going to be reconditioned, which is probably an awful experience, so fuck yeah he wanted to get out of there right then. I was so on board and SHOOK by Finn’s first scenes, seeing a trooper die in front of him, the blood smeared across his helm, the way he hesitated, the way he tried to follow the motions but couldn’t shoot the innocent villagers, I was. so. there. but then they just rushed everything so fast and didn’t give proper dialogue to bring it home. Like yes we can infer what’s going on, yes we can find out about it in retrospect but in this circumstance it’s not the same? Especially since it makes no sense for Poe to trust him, knowing how awful the New Order is, and not getting any like.. convincing... thing out of Finn. No, ‘I need to leave, they’ll recondition me’ just hey buddy let’s run off together! Sure I suddenly trust you there’s no way this could stab me in the back or put the entire Resistance in jeopardy!

Like. I wanna have fun so badly but just take the extra five seconds to let me??? Especially since later on when they reuinite like... I so want that to be a 150% awesome moment and believe in their deep friendship BUT THEY HAD NOTHING TO BOND OVER? LIKE? POE 100% TRUSTED HIM FROM THE START (BUT FOR NO REASON) AND LUCKILY FIN WAS ACTUALLY A NICE GUY? THE FUCK? Don’t cheat me, JJ Abrams.

The other thing that bugged me was, when Rey and BB8 first crossed paths, I was so confused by the entire interaction. She saved him from tha alienn guy, but that whole interaction made it seem like she knew BB8, hence going straight to his rescue, and knew what the alien was doing, bc it’s something that has happened more than once already. Like, as if BB8 had been with Rey for a while, and she had to keep trying to get that little guy from scraping him. Which I was 100% cool with and then realized, uh, no, she has no idea who BB8 is. Only later it’s made clear that droids are basically treated like people .. or at least Rey and others treats droids like they are free and sentient people, I suppose sleezy scrappers might not. But it’s just... very bizarre, I don’t know. If they’d somehow made that sentiment clear, hat Rey considered BB8 their own person, then maybe that would’ve cleared some things up. Because honestly once I was like, “ok so they DON’T know each other” I was like “so why is that little alien taking shit from her? That droid could be sold for a lot of money.” It’d make more sense for her to be like, this is my turf, my droid! That or, ‘droids are not property, leave it alone.’

Like.. idk, stop leaving me confused for so long before making it clear later on in the film. It’s not effective storytelling, it’s not an ~intriguing mystery~, especially when there’s SO MUCH MORE PLOT to get to in the movie, it’s just making it harder for me to get on board with the fun because nothing makes sense and these ‘mysteries’ are THINGS THAT WOULD HELP ME CONNECT TO THE CHARACTERS I’M SUPPOSED TO BE CARING ABOUT. I WANT TO. I FUCKING WANT TO CARE ABOUT THEM AND CRY EVERY DAY AND YOU ARE STANDING IN MY WAY, JJ ABRAMS.

Also, I’ve got a lot of ppl on my dash heavily invested into this fandom, especially Hux/Kylo shippers, which is part of why I was so disappointed bc I thought it’d be so much more enjoyable from the start? Like yes it was enjoyable but the beginning had such poor storytelling... anyway, my Kylux shipping friends and fandom at large led me to believe that Kylo Ren was this emo baby who has temper tantrums and cries all the time and is always emotionally unstable and Hux is like his chill 2 cool for school 2nd hand man who has to like, hold Kylo together and take his shit and get the job done while Kylo is like borderline incompetent bc he is so sad and emo and tortured.

Except, the movie is none of that. In fact I had kind of the opposite impression. It’s probably 90% bc Kylo’s face is hidden most of the time, but Hux even from his first lines is acted with this extremely tense, constipated, agitatio like he’s ready to either explore or burst into angry tears at any time. Like, am I the only one who got that from this face? 

it’s like Kylo has his balls in a Force vice grip at all times, I’m serious, I had to just mentally accept that in order to tolerate all of his lines, like, this poor guy, he has to worry about his balls being crushed, I get it now.

Plus there’s this

also this all made me remember that I’ve never understood the politics involved in the entire Star Wars series and ... yeah I’m really fucking lost at this point, for sure. and don’t really gaf about the franchise to go watch them all and see if it’ll click for me. More likely I’ll be madder about more dumb shit I never noticed when I first saw these films when I was like, 10. lmao. Altho... my wife Padme... >.>

Also, Snokes. I only know Kylo’s backstory so much bc of meta, and they do state the stuff in the film, but it would’ve been nice to bring it together, maybe when Han was trying to talk to him? like, according to fan meta, and Leia, Snokes basically groomed Kylo into the dark side when he was young... Han, come on, there could’ve been a little more said. There’s supposed to be so much weight behind that story but it feels empty when nobody really touches on it as much as they should. Like, I don’t need lengthy exposition, I just need a smidge  more than the bare fucking crumbs you’re giving me. Tho the ‘I’m being torn apart’ thing was nice tbh but without understanding why within the story it still risks just sounding dramatic for no reason. But, we know Kylo was tempted away to the dark side by Snokes, killed a bunch of kiddos, and ..? Basically I guess. He says he feels tempted by the light, his family, but aside from a few shreds that’s kind of all we get. 

Like, idk. There’s so. much. in this film that should be touched on more and given more weight but, instead it’s like nothing ends up feeling impactful. Poe gets tortured, Finn has faced his first battle and was clearly traumatized by it (the acting was greattt even before he took off that helmet wow that’s why I got so disappointed) but there’s no moment to transition, just, HEY PAL, LET’S RUN AWAY TOGETHER, YEE HAW. We can have weighty drama and lighthearted fun for the kids. We can. We really can.

Also, Rey’s abandonment on the planet, only the bit where Kylo is getting into her head cements the fact that she is so lonely and was left behind (also Maz, I love Maz). Also, Han’s death, also the destruction of an entire solar system. It all just felt so rushed, not much was allowed to hold any weight, even stuff I knew was supposed to be important?

Maybe it’s just me though, maybe I’m just really fucking dumb and like things to be clearly spelled out and stated and cemented together but, .. like I said,  I don’t expect exposition, I just expect like, a little moment where maybe Poe is suspicious of Finn, maybe Poe is clearly not okay (post torture and all) but then pulls himself together and is lie, yeah let’s do this, like... let me cry.

The only time I did cry was seeing Carrie fisher appear on screen the first time. AAEAAAUUGGGHHH!!!!!!!! ;;;;;;;;;;;;

Also, what’s up with R2D2 being a convenient asshole who slept for ages apparently and then conveniently wakes back up with the rest of the map they needed after all the fighting is done like... u dickhole. 

Also Luke is an enormous dickhole I’m pretty sure.

Also like, how long do these people live? Bc like, only 20 years or so shouldn’t be long enough for Rey to be like, ‘wow I thought Jedi weren’t real wow I thought that was a myth wow, wow’ like bitch that’s RECENT HISTORY, RECENT VERY IMPORTANT HISTORY, THERE WAS A ENTIRE HUGE JEDI WAR VS STORM TROOPERS THAT WASN’T THAT DAMN LONG AGO, AND STORM TROOPERS ARE REAL AS SHIT, KYLO REN’S FORCE POWERS ARE REAL AS SHIT, WHY DO PEOPLE NOT KNOW ABOUT THIS, Y’ALL GOT WARPSPEED ‘GARBAGE’ SPACESHIPS LYING AROUND BUT Y’ALL AIN’T GOT THE INTERNET, TWITTER? Idk. Maybe I’m old and bad storytelling bothers the fuck out of me. 

But I recently watched Mad Max Fury Road and every single part of that ws fucking flawless? Like? I donnn’t even need flawless I JUST NEED YOU TO TAKE 5 SECONDS TO LET ME CONNECT TO THESE CHARACTERS THAT I WANT TO LOVE AND ALLOW ME TO UNDERSTAND SOME BASIC CONCEPTS SO I CAN ENJOY YOUR FUCKING MOVIE JJ ABRAMS YOU LENSFLARE SHIT. YOUR STORYTELLING AND PACING IS BAD AND U SHOULD FEEL BAD.

didn’t like Hux as much as I thought I was going to.. or even remotely :/

didn’t like Rey, Finn, or Poe as much as I really wanted to. I liked them, but I could’ve liked them so much more and I feel robbed.

Maz, special guest appearance by Bloodraven!!, and Crotchy Old Man Han Solo were really the saving graces of this movie for me.

also, Kylo was actually really well acted imo, and fairly relatable despite also suffering from that limited screen time, limited chance to connect to the audience .. he did get more than anyone else, tho. 

but I enjoyed the movie. 

5/10 would have to watch it again to try to sink more understanding and feels into it that I should’ve been allowed to know from the start.

but I don’t think I will watch it again, glad I rented it and didn’t buy it :/

and if eleanor genuinely wants to headcanon a lesbian couple in your dumb classic straight book, let her fucking do it!! you don’t say “not everyone is gay, eleanor” to your own fucking student, so everyone else in the fucking class (who are all straight btw) can laugh at eleanor, like “haha, eleanor got told off for always talking about being gay!! isn’t that the fucking peak of humor!!” like as if this isn’t the fucking textbook definition of homophobia

yeah maybe eleanor is loud. maybe she can be in your face about her sexuality. but guess what?? no one ever considers maybe it’s fucking HARD and it’s SCARY to be a butch lesbian in a midwestern high school of 400; no one considers that eleanor probably has to put up with this shit on a daily basis, and instead of cowering and shutting up and letting herself get walked over, she just keeps going and she doesn’t give a fuck if she makes you “uncomfortable” or if she comes off as bitchy or over-the-top......... like other things aside, you should fucking understand how HARD that is, and how it just wears you down after days and weeks and years of putting up with everyone else’s shit

and it’s your fucking duty as a teacher to respect your students. it’s a mutual relationship; you respect each other and you want to help each other. you do NOT go out of your fucking way to humiliate one of your students because you don’t like her, and you ESPECIALLY don’t pull her openness about her sexuality as a source of humor!! what the FUCK

god, like sometimes i am a little embarrassed for eleanor bc she talks about gay pride a LOT, and it’s embarrassing for her to do that in front of ppl who subconsciously think ur a freak bc you’re a lesbian; but that does not mean i don’t understand why eleanor does what she does, and that especially does not mean i think she’s doing anything wrong. 

so just because you’re annoyed that she talks about your characters being gay, or about being gay herself, or a friend who is gay, does NOT mean you can essentially make fun of her in front of her fellow classmates (aka your other students) for talking about being gay. 

also mrs. kies is still mad at me for holding a grudge against the whites who brought confederate flags to school last year, so there’s that too!!! boy i love my school’s supposedly progressive faculty, they aren’t disappointing or moderate at all!!!!!!!!! GOD!!!
