Part IV.

Thursday

His.

You were so nervous today. You cant even think about the fact of being at home, hearing the tic-tac of the clock. You went out, being the slowest person while you walked to the gym. How can you tell the person who avoids you that you had her pen drive? 'Its gonna be weird' you think and you groaned with frustration and the people around looked at you. Probably they think you were insane, what probably she is going to think. You shake your head while you can see the gym building. Something, in the people towards you, caught your attention. White woollen hat. You looked at her, walking in the same direction than you and now, you can understand why she looked concentrated on the treadmill because she was stumbling over her own feet. She opened the door and went inside. You take a few deep breaths, trying to calm down yourself and then you pull the door. Today, you are going to need tons of luck. You met your friends at the male changing room who were changing their clothes and you heard female voices and then steps at the corridor. when you got changed, you take the pen drive and you and the rest of the guys were going upstairs. you take a deep breath again. You don't know when or how but you have to give it her back again. Her. "Why did I eat so much cake?" you asked yourself. now, you felt guilty because of cheating on your diet but today was practically the only day you eat some sweets or cake. At least, you knew that today you will meet the girls at the gym and after that, the three of you will go out for celebrating your birthday. Your favourite music was loud in your ears but you were nervous too. you found with Jane, a 67 years old lady who was so chatty and kind at the changing room. She was telling you about her DIY new scarf. You wave at her before going upstairs and basically, you shout "See you upstairs!! going upstairs today was a hard work for you because you were a little bit late today in comparison with other days. Gabriella´s voice echoes in your mind "go along with it". you started the routine with the loud music hitting your ears, no complain, you were listening to your fav ones. Moments later, the boxing guys were upstairs and you locked your gaze on the screen of the mobile phone. After a while, you cant do it anymore and remove your headphones almost dying while you walked on the treadmill. Then you heard someone screamed "HAPPY BIRTHDAY GIRL!!!" and you turned your head towards Gabriella who entered the room smiling, while practically all the gym were staring both of you were sure your face was completely RED. you stopped the treadmill and looked at her half hating her half thinking how could you kill her. She caught you in a hug and then pull your ears down. You whined. -Anna will do the same.- you whined again and Anna entered the room more silently but hugging you too. -We are going to spinning so you will wait for us after.- Gabriella told you. -Okay, don't worry!- you said at the sisters. When they turn around you almost gave them a kick in their asses for making everybody stared at you. You turn around and started again the exercise like anything happened. his. There she was, on the treadmill, with the same face in concentration as always interrupted by brief smiles, like she suddenly reminds of something. Joe, the teacher, give us the first lesson of the class. you were so concentrated in the class when you heard "HAPPYY BIRTHDAY GIRL" you turned to see who was the birthday girl, well, in fact, all the people in the gym in that moment. You never watch such a red face. their friends hugged her and pull down her ears, you could hear her whines. The fact that she came back to the treadmill so fast trying to nobody know it was her make you smile to the extreme that almost you laugh out loud, even you see how she tried to kick their friends when they turn over to go to the class. the face she had when she looked at her friend was like she looked a ghost. So she wanted to be unnoticed. the class continued after the stop and after a while you watched her going downstairs practically running like a ghost was behind her. You tried to concentrate on punch the bag in front of you. the hour was getting never ending type. even when your mates sat down on the floor and all of you were chatting about stuff. the guys looked at you smiling, telling you "I think you cant choose a better day". You were worried about it. What if she was truly avoiding you and you ruined her birthday? You tried not to think about that. at the end of the chat when they went downstairs, she was, now in normal clothes, with her woollen hat, with a pen on her mind writing with her headphones on. She should felt the gaze because she looked up, meeting your gaze making her cheeks flush and she even smiled. You felt hope on the top of your stomach, your heart started beating faster. she looked down again and write some words more. you looked at your friends who actually encouraged you to go, you had the pen drive in your sweatpant´s pocket and you grab it in your left hand while the gloves are in the right hand and you take a few steps being at her side. you tap her shoulder making her look up meeting your gaze while she took off one of her headphones, reflecting surprise on her face and you clear your throat: -Hi- you said trying to smile- the day before I found this in the corridor and I think is yours- you explained as you extend your hand. she looked down and her eyes were open -OH GOD, my pen drive, thank you so much- she said to you almost laughing- I thought I lost it somewhere else. Thanks for giving it back. -Uh, You´re welcome- you said practically stuttering- I hope you don't mind that I had to see your pictures- you cleared before she thinks you were weird -Oh, don't worry, its okay- she told you almost smiling. -Oh, I'm David- you introduced yourself as you remember she doesn't know yours. -I'm Helena- she said and she added- but I think you know already-she laugh. You laugh a little at her and suddenly you spoke again. -UH, by the way, happy birthday- you said trying to speak a little more with her. you noticed the change on her face as she got red again. -uh, uh, thank you so much! I think all the gym already know right?- she asked you with a frown and you laugh -yep, I think so -okay, I will kill my friends someday-she told you with a conspiratorial tone as you were part of that plan.- uh, I'm waiting for my friends to go to the cafe in the other way if you want to come it would be great!-she offered you. -oh, don't worry, go with your friends- you told and facepalmed yourself in your mind. -its okay, I insist- she smiled you -I think I have to have my shower- you looked down in your training clothes yet. -its okay, I have to wait for them -she points at the class above us.-and I believe guys are faster than girls- and she laughs again. You cant even say nothing more so you nodded and went to the changing room. your friends, especially Alex who told you. - all this time for a Pen drive?-he arched an eyebrow -well... eh... she offered me if I want to go with her to get some drinks- you told the guys and you take your clothes off. -And? what did you answer?- asked you, Alex -uh... That I have to get a shower yet- you facepalmed again- I'm an idiot. the guys laugh- well, she told me that she has to wait for her friends though. -With her friends? alex scanned your face and he told you -go to the shower now and sit with her. when her friends see you there they will put an excuse for not going. You went out with Alex by your side talking about class and the project, and she was there yet, writing and concentrated. you were curious about what she was writing. She shook her head, leave the pen on the notebook and looked up. she waved at you and both of you were close to her as he quit her headphones. -hi-she said -Hi- you smiled back and you looked Alex- This is my friend Alex- you told her and suddenly you forget to introduce her. again, you slapped you in your mind while she introduced herself and offered Alex to join them after, but he told her he met with his girlfriend and she looked shy suddenly. Alex said goodbye to both of you and you stand up like a fool till she said you to sit in the chair. -What you were writing?-you asked really curious. -Oh, its a story, only a few lines- she told you -Would I read it?- you asked and you felt regretful when it blurts out of your mouth. -When I have it in a good handwriting-she told you. you cant even imagine how bad is her handwriting when she smiled and she continued speaking- my friends said that I have a doctor´s handwriting. you about answered her but you heard her name. Her friends looked at you and they spoke as nothing was happening. The phone of the tallest rang and she moved apart to speak as Helena introduced you to the other one. -Lena, I'm sorry but John tell me that we have to go to their parent´s home -she looked at Lena. -Okay, don't worry Anna, its okay-she said sighing, as the other one, Gabriela, put an excuse for not going. Alex was right. You seize the fact you were alone for a while and you sent a message to him. after a while, Helena was back with a big smile and a box with a ribbon. she cant hide the big smile while she looked down. she kept the box in her bag and looked at you. -Sorry for leaving here you alone-she told you- let´s go then? Both of you stand up as you put on your coat and faced the cold afternoon. She spoke about the plan Gabriela has for her anniversary with her boyfriend. both of you arrived at a place with the appearance of an Irish Pub. You went first and open the door and she walked through stuttering a thank you while she flushed again. both of you sat down on wooden bench and table.
