📌 how did you find your hyperfixation?

for league... some of my friends were into it ! i got kinrecced soraka hehe, and i looked at her lore (presently, it’s the second most recent version of her lore) and was like. oh geez, that’s me. hehe. so around that time i started playing, pretty much exclusively as soraka for a few months, and then got more and more invested in other characters and play styles as well! so i’ve been playing for.. 4 years and 3 months now? wow.

with ffxiv, i first started playing on ps3 actually. i dont remember where i heard of it specifically, but i had played ffxiii and was interested in final fantasy in general because i’ve played a lot of kingdom hearts games, which often feature a bit of crossovers with them. i started playing it when i was... not really doing so good, tbh! i was isolated, struggling with my mental health a lot, but... i would log in to ffxiv and see people there! :’) it gave me both a way to socialize more and a story/gameplay to enjoy! for a while, i didn’t play as much, but i’ve gotten really into it again the past few years, especially late last year and beyond.

✨ what draws you towards your hyperfixation? what is interesting about it?

i’ll continue with ffxiv because i’m already kind of bringing up what i enjoy about it hehe. a huge part of it is the social aspect, of working together, of being to, in a way, see people far away; my girlfriend and i play together sometimes, for example. we got to have a little in game date a while back <3 some players were hosting an unofficial concert with their in game instruments, so our characters sat together to listen and we chatted and emoted at each other, it was sweet.

there’s also the story! it’s interesting... my favorite parts of it so far have been mid to late heavensward and the azem steppe parts of stormblood- and i’ve heard the newest expansion, which i just started, is very compelling and emotional! and then there’s things like decorating your house, designing your character and their outfits, etc! also crafting and gathering, it feels so satisfying to create even just in game items.

for league... it honestly has some really interesting characters. i love senna and lucian and want to see them work together to stop viego, i love leona and diana and hope they can reconcile (and kiss) someday, etc... there are over a hundred of them, i’m sure many people can find at least one character they really like in league. they have different goals, skills, ideals, etc... and it’s interesting when they move the story forward through things like the comics and cinematics and upcoming games. plus you get official alternate settings like star guardians (magical girl/boy), high noon (hard to explain quickly but western-y with a lot of fantasy elements), project/program (cyborgs and robots), and many others.

now the gameplay and story are mostly separated, as there’s no real lore reason for people from all over to fight strangers or even their loved ones in summoners rift hehe. but still the gameplay is often very enjoyable! it’s very team-focused, you need to work with others. there’s a lot of strategy involved. there are over 150 playable characters, all with different abilities. even within the support role, for example, you have different choices- healing, shielding, stunning/slowing enemies, offensive or defensive focus, etc...! it’s fun. 4 years and i still have so much to explore. <3
