#thinking on that 'humans are inherently bad/evil/whatever' post and it reminds me of something#specifically the people that will say 'were all a little (x)' to excuse the listed idea#the most recent example i can think of is this one set in ancient china#it has a good groundwork for ghe story#(sort of scifi a bit anti imperialist (well as much as it can be with the li being a distant heir to the throne)#the mc is also partially blind and deaf and is also one of the most important people in the country#and it the narrative weighs heavily on all of the decisions the mcs have to make in this war theyre fighting)#the war is the big part#bc theyre fighting not only the west but also what is *heavily* hinted to be the tribes#and while it leans heavily on how bad the west is treating them#it leans more hypocritical when its not talking on how the tribes are being affected#and i saw this matter brought up#and like. some of the replies were both telling and concerning#the top reply was how imperialism wasnt *inherently racist*#and this person brough up how they study? got a degree???? in history and learned from 'example' (but were lacking irl ones)#and the op even brough up how they were concerned that they seemed to think it wasnt racist#but the main person this is about is the one who said theyd met many people#and learning from them is that 'everybody is a little racist'#and i think they ended it off with how it was a book or something#and the op of it all (han chinese and also someone who travels) brought up how that was inherently flawed if either are the defense#(i think another commenter also said how there were people being racist to all sides from around the world in the original comments)#(from the book i mean)#(which. still isnt a defense but i also couldnt find a specific comment from either side in any language skimming through some key pages)#but that comment was the main point of this#the problem is when youre using it as a excuse for you (or someone else) to Do the bigotry. it shouts what youre trying to whisper#(i dont really think the author is racist. she is more noted as a more 'liberal' author in those spaces)#(she even has a trans character (though theyre not written well and we dont know how they see themself))
