like i know it TECHNICALLY seems scarier to have a controversial opinion in a fandom with a larger population but my experience has always been that if you're in a high volume fandom that has really active tags and engagement and a thriving art community unless you're a big name who's consistently perpetuating harm people are way less likely to find and single you out but when you're in a small fandom that only has like 10 or 11 big name artists who post consistently people treat those artists like gods so no matter what they say or do if you question it you're the villain and people you don't even know are suddenly in discord servers making threats against your life.
#and you can't enjoy anything anymore or follow anyone because everyone you know follows the people who perpetuated your harassment :)#and you can't be in any projects or zines or collabs because everyone recognizes you as the guy who politely asked J*********art#not to draw jews with horns and started a fandom wide antisemitic shitstorm#i know michi can relate to this bc we were both going through it at the same time in two different fandoms on two different websites lol#like i've had big fandoms get mad at me before and it was usually just like#a few annoying guys who tuckered themselves out#it is sooooo much more awful when everyone knows each others usernames on sight
