#it has been shown. even when mafuyu was a little girl. ...she has always been like this

anytime I see someone on twitter say Mafuyu's mom is just a normal parent, or taking the clear manipulative instances and using those as examples of genuine love for Mafuyu... I actually just feel kind of bad because, well, experiences makes things like that seem normal to people...
On top of that, I don't think Mafuyu's mom doesn't have any love Mafuyu... I just don't think she loves Mafuyu as an individual, a person in her own right. Mafuyu's mom cares more about herself, and what she imagines for Mafuyu, and how Mafuyu is in the terms of being an extension of herself.
And once Mafuyu starts to break from that image, from her grasp, her control... well, we saw how she reacted.
#[ ;text ]#project sekai#nightcord#well written abusive parent. i hate her so much#has mafuyu's mom been capable of genuine kindness? yes#we saw that in the mirage event#and things like that are literally why mafuyu still wants to hope her mom is doing all of this out of care for her!!!#she knows her mom is capable of kindness! so then why....?#ect ect ect#that plus like. i've said it before somewhere in regards to Mafuyu but. no child wants to believe their parents isn't thinking of them#isn't doing things for their good#no child wants to believe their parent doesn't truly care about THEM but instead an imagined image of them#mafuyu wants her mom to understand... she wants to believe it's possible... she loves her mother. but.#I don't think... Mafuyu's mom will ever be willing to understand#it has been shown. even when mafuyu was a little girl. ...she has always been like this#even if mafuyu didn't see it / didn't want to see it and believed herself to be entirely to blame#I don't think she's going to change.

sorry talking about it over here too actually i don't have character limit over here. kinda long post i do eventually read more but. it's mainly long bc i have some pics for context dfksljhdsf
for my non-pjsekai followers. mizuki akiyama was introduced prior to the game's release in 2020 as the only character to not have a gender listed and instead to have a "?" in the place of a gender. mizuki is voiced by a girl and appears feminine. the english version of the game strictly uses they/them for mizuki bc we technically did not know mizuki's gender
the story set up mizuki as an outcast in their class for "dressing weird" and has been shown as being a victim of bullying for this "dressing weird" reason. mizuki skips school constantly to avoid hearing people be assholes to them. they have always had a fear of losing their friends in their unit due to their "secret"
all of their focus events have kind of skirted around the issue, but have stayed strong in that mizuki is afraid of a potential change in their friend group if their "secret" was to come out, because it happened in the past
mizuki has ALWAYS been portrayed, in the present, with long hair and feminine clothing. we first see a change in this in a flashback in an early mixed event with a slight mizuki focus where it shows us how they and rui became friends in middle school. this was a school festival event
we see this past mizuki then in their third group focus event
where it shows that their family is very supportive of them, even being okay with how much they skip school bc they know that if mizuki went to school, they'd be worse off. this event shows us specifically that their older sister really loves them and gives them the courage to be themself
we see it one more time in an event we don't quite yet have on en, it's another mixed event, i haven't read it yet bc we dont' have it and it wasn't too important for me to seek out right away so don't ask me about it LOL SORRY i'll read it when we get it. but we do see their sister being very supportive again in them wanting to wear cute, feminine clothes
their focus songs have been about their identity, their fear of rejection, their want to tell their friends, and how they run when they're scared
starting from their second group focus event (the event that gave us one of the vocaloid songs of all time, lower by nulut), their unitmate, ena, has told them that she'll be there for mizuki whenever they're ready to talk. that she won't turn away from mizuki (paraphrasing).
we also got a cover of villain by teniwoha with mizuki and mafuyu. this is literally a song about being trans and gay. most specifically it's about being TRANS.
it should be noted that not a single event has actually directly addressed their gender. we have only gotten the vague "secret" comments and comments from their classmates. which is why for the last four years, it is more common to see mizuki referred to as they/them bc we have not been given any concrete information.
even the third anniversary update stuck to the "?"
the third anniversary of the jp server moved the story forward a year and every character moved to the next grade. new grade means new school festival. at the end of one of the recent events prior to the fourth anniversary that happened the other week, ena is seen going to mizuki's classroom to see what their class is doing and the story cuts there. where they have classmates who gossip about them. which obviously sparked concern in the fandom
we then got the announcements for this month's focus song commissions, where they preview the song, tell us who they commissioned, and the producer gives us a little bit of information about how they felt making the song
the current 25ji event was announced to be nakiso, known for making VERY DEPRESSING SONGS about wanting to DIE and DISAPPEAR. and then this was nakiso's comment. in contrast, utsu-p was announced for the next vivid bad squad song and he talked about how fun the story was.
AND THEN WE GOT THE BANNER THE OTHER DAY, AS A NOTE, THE BANNER COMES OUT A DAY BEFORE THE GACHA AND EVENT DROP. AND THIS WAS THE BANNER.
event came out this morning and someone translated it very quickly.
they still skirted around the exact answer. but i think it's very important to note that this is the first time we've gotten in words that mizuki is in fact amab. like we could always tell, the hints were always there, but here we're being told directly that this is the case.
and i fully believe that the framing they are using here. is that mizuki is a trans girl. i would genuinely be so mad if they reveal that she's a cross dresser instead and y'all know i love my cross dresser characters. mizuki is, and always has been, set up as a trans girl. because why would they hold onto a crossdresser storyline for FOUR YEARS? crossdresser characters aren't uncommon in gacha games, and they're usually immediately told to us bc the people making the games KNOW there's a market for those characters
in fact. this whole time, the only reason we've used neutral language to talk about mizuki in english is simply because the pjsekai team chose to tell us at the very beginning that mizuki's gender is unknown. perhaps we could've found out from the early stories that told us that mizuki's classmates found her style as weird and from the middle school flashback.
a huge problem with english fans is that many claim that "mizuki uses they/them pronouns" when that's literally not the case. japanese doesn't have pronouns in that way, they have personal pronouns, in which mizuki uses boku. which isn't that unusual for young girls to use. we use they/them because we do have gendered pronouns to refer to people in third person. we literally just didn't know mizuki's gender for sure and we couldn't really tell if they were going to pull the crossdresser card or not. but i truly, genuinely, want to believe that they can't drop the ball here with how they have set this storyline up for the last four years and specifically in this one event.
here's where' i'll put the readmore as i do talk about the actual events of the end of the story so spoilers ahead. i do have more than just the story summary where i just talk about it and where this has to go next. sorry for the long post lkdsfjhds i jsut. i think it's too important to cut.
while waiting for mizuki on the roof after the school festival, a place that mizuki finds a safe haven and had asked ena to meet them there bc this was a safe haven. bc they had finally made up their mind to tell her their "secret." they had to help with something for their class cleanup and that is the only reason they didn't go up there with her. while waiting for them, some of mizuki's classmates come up and start gossiping about them. and then they notice ena.
and they ask ena if she's "also a guy" and say that ena "looks like a normal girl" and state that "it's not like mizuki is hiding anything lol" and mizuki comes up after that and hears her classmates outing her. to her friend that she was literally about to come out to.
prior to the final chapter of the event, you are given a warning that mizuki's overworld interactions outside of the 25ji sekai will disappear. mizuki will, for the time being, no longer be in the real world.
the event story ends with mizuki running away and ena chasing after her, catching up to her and mizuki explaining how she doesn't want things to change. she doesn't want the rest of 25ji pitying her and "pretending" to play along with her just because they're too nice to not do that. she wants everything to stay the same and not because her friends pity her. and then she runs off again
after events, there's usually a couple new overworld interactions between the characters involved in the event. the only new interaction this time is mizuki, alone, in the sekai wondering if she had been quicker, if things would've been different.
i noticed, as well, that in this interaction, mizuki's voice is deeper than usual.
and the thing is. ena wasn't disgusted. she was just confused, hearing such weird comments from mizuki's classmates. she didn't even have time to try and figure out what they were saying by the time mizuki came up and saw them. prior to this, mizuki had stated that she knew that her friends wouldn't reject her, and that it was just her fear of rejection holding her back from saying anything. she happened to come up at the wrong time, to a place she could always be herself at, just to see her friend confused. you can't even blame her for misreading it, right?
tell me how this isn't a trans girl confirmation? how can you take any other outcome from this? we're told that this whole time, the past four years, mizuki, in character, has been passing as a girl to her friends and that's how she wanted it to be. and when seeing that her friend found out from someone else, she panics. unless you're one of the transphobes taking the classmate's words outing her as "proof mizuki is a boy," is this not a transfem story?
we still don't know for sure. and we won't know for a couple months i'm afraid, until we get the next 25ji event, but i want to believe that this is what i think it is.
as another note, the nakiso song also had something interesting i had noticed. all of mizuki's focus songs on master are very flowy. bakenohana on master is extremely rigid.
when i pointed out mizuki's voice line being lower, nice pointed out that her last line in the song also is way lower than usual as well.
and others have pointed out that mizuki never sings alongside the other members in the song, only kaito.
like there's so much to this event story to talk about. it's broken containment so much that nonfans and even non-anime fans are even reading the event to see why it's so prominent on their tls. it's so hard to contain in one post really.
like this isn't the first game to have a transfem character, one of the more prominent games to have one is enstars but enstars treats arashi so horribly that it's hard to give them any credit for even having her. pjsekai dropping this event is just...different? man.
so the new mizuki event on jp pjsekai huh?
