I’ve been thinking more on it, and this comment on this post of mine has gotten me thinking even more on the concept, so I’ve written up a bit more for it
Tumblr media
@a-randomgnome this is probably not what you meant, since I’m more of a lore/vibes writer and not a pure fanfic writer but I digress
Is RT better portrayed AS an eldritch being, or as someone who can communicate with eldritch beings? Is he better associated with time and space (his ability to rewind in games if he doesn’t like the result, the predictions in balatro, and his whole galaxy theme) or is he better associated with luck (his streamer luck, the gambling aesthetic, the way he rigs games of chance in his favor)?
Balatro RT really feels like one who knows the outcome, who smiles at any attempt to thwart him, knowing that there is no chance to beat him—or rather that if he were to lose, it would all be a part of the plan.
Minecraft skulk RT feels like someone who is being kept from the heavens, forced to look down into the depths to get a glimpse of the stars he used to be a part of.
Chat is a part of him in a way I don’t often see with other streamers, an amalgamated being that knows everything about him and his surroundings, but only has an approximate knowledge of anything else. But what makes them inseparable is the command he has over a generally capricious being, like taming a toddler the size of a building using rules and toys.
In cities skylines he is a god, in Minecraft he is just a guy who can die to creepers.
What if there’s a timeline to work with? A before and after? A pseudo-deity Entity with control over his own time and his own space, who hops dimensions at will and rewinds time either so he can indulge in impulses or to gain a slightly more favorable outcome—not that it may seems better from the outside. Until he is not. Then he is just a guy who goes into stuff with some good luck and a not-quite-all-knowing voice in his ear that helps him but often at the expense of the world or people around him. A connection to the power he used to have, a curse and a blessing, something he learns to reign in, if not quite control.
But time is a little strange in how it works, and it’s not a clear before and after like it should be. Both versions can and do exist at the same time, and he both knows, and doesn’t know each of them. It’s not that he switches between the two but rather that they both exist simultaneously, recursively, drawing together in a tight circle that ends at the beginning and begins at the end.
