its so wild seeing trolls band together become an actual big thing, as someone whos seen the original a million times bc of something called a little sister (the script doesnt leave my brain send help) if i may ask: what is the appeal exactly for band together? like what made people like yourself catch on? ive heard is simply velvet and veneer but i thought asking might help me understand

WELL my own personal theory is that like. you remember how trolls 2 was a weird pandemic release right, where in order to make up the bulk of movie ticket sales it was basically the first movie you could buy on VOD for a fixed ticket price. for families of like, 5, or just multiple households in general, only playing $20 was actually a great deal, but for people like me who would only be watching it on their own, i’d be having to pay $20 for the privilege to watch a movie Once at home where i’m not even able to own it digitally after the fact. so a lot of people didn’t see trolls world tour as it came out

but then movie theatres opened up again, and trolls 3 managed to get some good promo in before the writers strike (it was a trailer bumper for BARBENHEIMER) so like. people were actualy motivated to see it more ig. especially with like, going to the movies with your family or going on discounted ticket days. it’s the Experience. there was also a bit of buzz around the fact that wish’s villain song sucked MAJOR ass, so people were kinda turning to trolls 3’s villain songs that had dropped like “ha. ha ha. isn’t it funny how this baby movie for little babies has FAR better villain songs than disney’s big prestige anniversary movie” but there was also buzz around velvet and veneer in general because people tend to really be fans of rubberhose style things imo. so like velvet and veneer really caught on as a phenomenon and a lot of people who saw the movie stayed v&v stans but a lot of people who saw the movie to see if the villains were all that ended up falling in love with the entire thing (like me!)

going back to the pandemic release vs theatre release thing i genuinely believe trolls world tour could have sparked a renaissance of trolls’ image like this if it hadn’t been dropped the way it did. because trolls 1 was a Fine Enough fantasy world but it was just about going to and from bergentown and neither pop village nor bergentown were very cool locales. but trolls world tour had COOL LOCATIONS and REALLY COOL LORE and AWESOME SIDE CHARACTERS which is a lot of stuff band together has too! ike i firmly believe that trolls has more of an appeal now because it’s shifted into a true fantasy adventure series it’s just that the one that actually started this trend was trolls world tour. because people LIKE thinking about the politics of the different troll tribes and they LIKE thinking about the sibling dynamics of brozone and it’s a lot more meat to bite into

either that or maybe people just really like velvet and veneer to a supernatural degree. who’s to say. who’s to say.

so by someone else: its actualy @matchamabs' "we've hit rock bottom and we've started to dig" because of just. the whole found family stuff!! and maybe it helps that i had a little hand in the early planning of this fic sdfghjksfd (mabs if ur reading this, i am planning on reading thru it all again, i just need life to settle down first!) like its such a treat of fantastic writing, awesome characterisations and fun exchanges between the crows, and the mystery of the plot!! the worldbuilding. the way mabs just *gets it*. chefs kiss.

im a bit shit and only come on here to vent these days and i know that doesnt really create a good look for me, but honestly a lot of shit just never ends and its hard to feel optimistic when thigns make me feel. the exact opposite right now lmao

i guess one little quick recap over the last year?

start of 2019 i moved in with one of my brothers back to our hometown, i moved out from my best friend’s house and it was actualy kinda a huge mistake lol cuz my brother put a lot of stress and pressure on me (hes a bit of a.....idk. hes autistic and i was happy to help him learn independence but he has a very anti-recovery mindset with his mental illnesses and is sorta emotionally toxic and expects the world to do everything he wants bc he sees himself as superior?) and it quickly became pretty toxic.

i was also in a real bad way not long into moving in cuz i was in my first fulltime job at a call centre and it. oh god guys. i was getting abused on the phone daily by customers (we handled customer enquiries specifically), then coming home to a toxic place + at the time i had 5 very needy very loud cockatiels who one by one were sorta added into me and my friend’s care when we lived together, they took half the birds i took the other half).  so anyway, i was really not ok for a lot of last year, and something in me really fucken broke tbh. BUT i finally managed to quit that job, and lived off scraps for about a month, then yay got another job working at a dog daycare! i began house searching in september/october, cuz the toxicity with my bro was getting...too much. he would flip flop on me in really extreme ways and it really wasnt ok. 

i struggled mostly because my cat maple was the biggest deal breaker for any potential housing situation (all my friends who needed a roommate already had cats, maple cannot be housed w cats). i was also struggling to pay rent lol....i managed to offload all but one of my cockatiels, my original one, but i was experiencing such a severe compassion fatigue by the end of 2019 that i just. i could not handle even just one bird. so earlier this year i made the really tough decision to surrender her to a bird rescue (who ive worked/helped with previously sorta)

anyway housing got pretty desperate, and i ended up having to take whatever i could get, and ive ended up living an hour from where i was with a friend and her partner. they have 2 indoor rabbits but we tried our luck with maple. unfortunately, after a while, she was just not adapting to even rabbits, and i made the equally tough decision to foster her out until i have more stabke housing.  i was originally only meant to be living here for a year, until i could save up and move to england, but looks like thats not happening any time soon.  i havent seen my friends properly in so long, i got to finally see maple last week which was awesome, but im sorta dealing with core aspects of my life being stretched thin across multiple places.

so ive sorta just been writing “whats been happening” and not as much “how ive felt about it” but like. this past year has been absolutely exhausting. i miss maple, and my bird yuki, and i feel absolutely terrible admitting i wasnt strong enough to stick it out with either of them. at least with mapel i get her back, and i can always see yuki when i volunteer, but god. shit really sucks man.

also i lost my dog daycare job today too cuz of...well...from my perspective “drama”, between me and the receptionist who handles my shift, but “other non-drama reasons” with my actual boss (just not having enough shifts cuz of c-vid)

anyway thats....pretty much the main shit thats been happening. i saw evren last august <3 and i did a lot of conventions last year, but im kinda glad i get to have a break from them this year. idk. good and bad aspects to this shit.

HEY THAT'S A RAD TATTOO!!!!! :D Any reason you decided on that one specifically?

THANK YOU~!!!! :3!!! mainly i just wanted something that looked pretty cause like for me tattoos are mainly just this awesome art that i get to put on my body, so theres not a lot of like deep meaning behind it but i picked a triangle cause its the alchemy sign for both fire and water, and while ive been kinda associated with water my whole life (pisces, slytherin, always get water related stuff on quizzes and such) ive always identified more with fire if that makes sense? or like ive always wanted to be more fire...y lol.

 so my tattoo, when someone else looks at it its upside down so its the symbol for water, but when i look at it its right side up so its the symbol for fire! which is cool cause its like how the world views me vs how i view myself type thing!! 

 n then i wanted space in it cause space is super pretty, but the references i sent my tattoo guy were pretty different from what ended up happening (very blue/purple with just a bit of yellow), and i told him to pretty much just go with the flow on that part n not really worry about the references cause i trust him, but its really weird cause i was thinking in the middle of getting it that i wanted it to be more red? and then he started adding a bunch of red!!!!  and now its even more like fire/water cause its split in the middle with the red and blue and aaaaaa its so good!!!!!!

like im so so so happy with how it turned out and like my #1 piece of advice for anyone who wants to get a tattoo is pick an artist you trust to just do something awesome if you give them free reign, and then give them that freedom. cause they know what theyre doing and like i ended up with a tattoo that doesnt look at all like my original concept really, but i like it so so much better~!!!!

The new lion king. I can understand not liking it since its clearly not a cartoon.

But that's exactly why i like it. I've been watching documentaries from animal planet n Nat geo my whole life and I LOVE seeing this happy realistic lion bounding about like he's still a cub. I love the barley viable not-quite-blink of happyness and the sheer fear in baby simba. And SCAR oh my god SCAR LOOKS AMAZING. He doesnt look like a walking corpse (whoch is what i always thought realistic scar wpuld look like)! It's awesome!

Yes kids love cartoons. But kids also love REAL animals. This is (probably uninentionaly) a great way to get more people of all ages into documentaries about said real animals!

If u wanted actual animals to do all that its take so much training and a much larger budget.
