I want to complain about the book im reading for a bit, ignore this👍🏻

Ok so im reading an informational book about sustainability through the ages (its called “we weten al hoe het moet” and its a translation from the german book “wir konnten auch anders”) and i was very exited to start reading it because sustainability and history are two things that are very dear to me. But once i started reading all they were yapping about was economics and shit and im not here for that😭 now im getting a bit further into the book and for some reason this author can not stop talking negatively about both the past and the present and somehow also keeps insulting the reader. How are you supposed to teach us about how they used to do things and tell us we can learn from the past when you keep bashing it and keep bringing up economics??? And why do they constantly downtalk the reader??? It keeps assuming the reader doesnt know anything about how history works and here i am as a history nerd who primarily focusses on the day to day life of people in the past, reading this… very very weird to me but okay

Anyway i will continue reading and hoping it gets better further into the book and i hope they tell me something that i do in favt nit know that doesnt have to do with the price of piece of meat in 1200s germany because i did bot start reading this book to be told about numbers

Aaaah, thanks for this! I’m a bit obsessed with nuances in translations and german being my first language, I usually avoid the german dubbings bc theyre frankly flat and the formal adressing in The Witcher is pain, so this post was fun. Although imagining him saying “Dann nimm mich hier” sends me to hell and back. 

I do enjoy the Czech dubbings of The Witcher, though, especially Jaskier’s voice actor and his singing, so don’t mind if I add some nuances in the Czech version, in case anyone is interested!

Also disclaimer: I’m not dragging the translators because Czech, being a slavic language, is a bit more difficult to fit into the lines than French and German, which are obviously way more similar to English. As I said, I’m a fan of the Czech dubbing in general, especially the way they gave the dwarves a distinct dialect like in the original, German dubbing would never.

First of all, there is no formal adressing between the two of them ever, which I love.

Episode 1

English: ”If your life at court has been staid you’ve been doing it wrong.” Czech: "If your life at court has been boring, you don't know how to live it." Something about Radovid telling Jaskier he doesnt know how to live...

Episode 2

The lyrics got me. Once again gotta point out I absolutely adore Jaskier’s Czech singing voice, stan Ondřej Rychlý. Tried my best to translate it but have the Czech lines too (at least what I think them to be, my Czech is not perfect).

Ústa mít jak led když srdce plát chce žárem To have a mouth like ice when the heart wants to burn in the heat

proč měl bych spívat co chce svět a plýtvat tak svým darem why should I sing what the world wants and waste my gift like that?

English: "You see people. For what they are, not what they pretend to be." Czech: "You see people. Who they are, not what they want to be." Gives me aching heart disease.

Episode 3

English: "You can't play a player." Czech: "You can't cheat a cheater." Cheater more as in someone who betrays. Czech Jaskier (Marigold) sure thinks less of Radovid than the English one.

English: "He's hiding something." Czech: "He's hiding something from me."

Sadly, he does not refer to him as little spoon, although he could have easily.

English: "Crushes are for children, darling." Czech: "Love is for children.” (before this line they did talk about crushes) Oof ouch ouchie

Episode 4

English: "Just saying that makes you braver than you know." Czech: "That alone makes you braver." Thats one of the instances where the correct translation just didn’t fit but I did have to laugh. Being scared makes you brave apparently.

English: “You learned my song.” Czech: "That is my song." Internet Explorer Moment

Thankfully, the word play with taking him inside and taking him here works out perfectly and I love it. Just a bit more of that sweet sweet “vem si” action.

Episode 6

(this one is rough)

English: "Because that is who you are, Radovid, at your core. I thought I had seen through your mask, turns out there was nothing behind it." Czech: "You simply are like that, Radovid. You're a crook. I saw through your mask long ago, and that there is nothing behind it." LIAR LIAR PANTS ON FIRE THAT SOUNDED DIFFERENT LAST NIGHT MARIGOLD. He’s bitter af

Episode 7

grammatically, Radovid is still looking for his guards as he’s cowering next to their corpses, which I found great

English: "We have to get you out of here." Czech: "We have to get out of here." Not Jaskier getting Radovid’s hopes up like that.

English: "Plans change." Czech: "I am changing my plan." More false hopes

English: "I don't know what happens next." - "Just let me be there with you. Prove that im more than a mask." Czech: "It's hard to say what will happen." - "Then take me with you. Maybe I am more than a mask." NOT ONLY the “come with me” to “tell me where to meet you” to “take me with you” pipeline that is SENDING me but also the fact Radovid seems to admit he doesn’t know himself if he can be good? Had more feelings abt this than I should have had.

Episode 8

English: "I am not staying." Czech: "I cannot stay." PAIN.

And last but not least:

English: "I finally found something that suits me. Someone. And he needs my help." Czech: "I finally found a use for me. Someone who I want to help." I love that the Czech wording refers more to being useful than finding something that suits him, and that not only does Jaskier need his help, but he wants to help him. Idk man I just think that’s neat.

Radskier dialogue nuances in different languages

So I have been rewatching The Witcher in French recently and some of the changed lines stuck out to me, in the interactions between Radovid and Jaskier in particular. So i figured I'd compile my favourites from the translated versions I've seen so far here and compare their meaning to the original. I've also included some of the German lines since I'm German and I got curious!

Disclaimer: I'm just a guy who speaks a bunch of languages, don't expect overly technical linguistic wizardry here. Also this is not about the voice actors' skill or how well the lines are matched up to lip movements, strictly about the little changes in meaning when you take the translations literally! All meant to be in good fun.

Since this is about the season 3 dialogue, there are spoilers ahead.

This is going to be a long post so buckle up!

Season 3 in general: The way Jaskier and Radovid address one another

English (original): both use "you" which makes sense of course

French: Jaskier uses "vous" (the formal "you") for Radovid and Radovid uses "tu" (the casual "you") for Jaskier until they have sex in episode 4. When they talk the morning after in episode 6, they're both using "tu".

German: both use "Ihr" and the other formal derivatives for one another throughout (Even Geralt and Jaskier address each other formally the whole time. I'm not a fan)

Episode 1: Jaskier and Radovid meet

The dialogue here is generally very close, just two little things between the original and the German version I want to point out.

English (Jaskier): Fuck, I don’t really know what I’m supposed to… Bow? Or curtsy, or… I’ve been holding your hand a long time, so sorry about that.

German (Jaskier): Shit, I don't know if I'm supposed to bow or be polite... I've been holding your hand for too long, forgive me ("bow or be polite"?? HUH?)

English (Radovid): If your time at court’s been staid, you’ve been doing it wrong

German (Radovid): If your time at court has been too calm/quiet, something went wrong ([gay silence])

Episode 2: specifically Extraordinary Things

I've put the different lyrics as rather direct translations in the pictures below. They're also written out in the alt text. The French ones are a little more pointed compared to the original imo, I like that version a lot. I'm not sure how I feel about the German version but the first line did make me giggle.

Episode 3: Jaskier talks to Vespula about Radovid

I love this scene for many reasons. I have two things to point out about this.

The first thing is that while in the English and French version, Jaskier says that he and Radovid have only met twice, in the German version he says that he and Radovid don't even know each other.

The second thing is that in the English and German version, Jaskier calls Radovid a spoon and he does in the French version as well. However, he specifies Radovid is a "little spoon" here. Need I say more?

Episode 4: the scene in the shed

Ah, the scene of all time. Before the other scene of all time in episode 6. A few things about this one. The first thing is a very small change in the French version:

English (Jaskier, after Radovid admits he's scared): Just saying that makes you braver than you know.

French (Jaskier, after Radovid admits he's scared): The fact you're admitting that proves you are brave

The second thing bothered me more because it isn't really a subtle change. Both in English and French, Jaskier says Radovid has "learned [his] song", but in German he says Radovid "knows [his] song". The German line here isn't saying that Radovid "knows" the song as in he knows how to play it (from hearing and watching Jaskier play it for him once, mind you), the way it's said makes it sound like Radovid has just heard the song before.

The third thing is what they're saying right after the kiss. Unfortunately with the slightly changed lines for Jaskier we don't get the clever connection between Jaskier talking about taking Radovid into the cabin and Radovid asking Jaskier to take him (sexually).

English (Jaskier): I can't take you inside, I'm sorry.

English (Radovid): Then take me here.

French (Jaskier): The cabin is occupied, I'm sorry.

French (Radovid): Then take me here.

German (Jaskier): We can't go inside, I'm sorry.

German (Radovid): Then take me here.

Episode 6: the morning after

The German version is the same as the original here.

English (Jaskier to Radovid): I thought I’d seen through your mask. Turns out there was nothing behind it.

French (Jaskier to Radovid): I thought I had lifted the veil from your soul. But I found nothing but darkness beneath that façade

The subtle differences in the French version on the other hand not only make the pain a little different, it also includes an allusion of sorts to that version of Extraordinary Things with Jaskier talking about Radovid's soul. At least that's how I saw it. Ouch!

Episode 7: the moment where Jaskier finds Radovid at Thanedd

All three versions here make me want to cry. That's all.

English (Radovid): Just let me be there with you. Prove that I’m more than a mask.

English (Jaskier): Maybe.

French (Radovid): Just let me stay with you and show you what is beneath this façade.

French (Jaskier): Why not.

German (Radovid): Just let me be with you and show my true self.

German (Jaskier): Maybe.

Today in fuck you pay me. Get email from boss, richest man i know etc etc

So what this is about is that he has this german friend,who is trying to read a 1934 legal scholarship text on soviet law & revolution in russian and he stumbled on a passage that doesnt make sense to him while the german translation is "incomprehensible". So he asks my boss to "give me a statement (in English or German or may be Russian) to the meaning of the sentence" which btw is so funny if thats how they talk to each other. So boss just forwards that to me like, hey can you give him a readable translation & explain a bit what its abt

And the sentence doesnt make sense. Its like "it is not about what behaviors are demanded by the law, but which behaviors are demanded of people as perscribed by the law". The two halves mean the same thing to me. I start immediately thinking that im stupid. Trying to come up w people to ask for help (my supervisor whos also a history/humanities guy and tumblr user @zeychen ) but also worried abt looking dumb bc i dont get the difference btwn behaviors being demanded by law and being perscribed by law but demanded otherwise. Im not doing the chemistry work.

Anyway i google the sentence and its a typo, the 2nd half should read "how the behaviors that the law perscribes are demanded of people". So the interest of legal scholars, as presented by the author, is not the contents of the law, but what makes law in its enforcement.

So my first question goes out to our german friend: youre deep in the shit, youre reading peteris stučka in russian w the german translation next to you, youre struggling w a passage, why not try typing that into the internet? Youre supposed to be writing a book, do you not ever go online for that? why is your move to email your russian business acquaintance? Question number 2 for my boss: your friend asks you to translate an absolute nonsense sentence, and you go to your grad student (one of the few who didnt quit this year!) like hey just explain this difference to the guy in german real quick. And when i tell him that it looks like a typo, hes all o: it makes sense suddenly, the first version really didnt :o motherfucker why did you ask me to just explain it real quick then? not even a token attempt at doing it himself, googling a passage in his own native language for his alleged good friend w whom he does communicate in english somehow. the kinda guy for whom everything is filtered through "i have a person for that", miserable.

3rd question is for me, how do i stop sucking so much authority dick and not fall over myself to submit to peoples requests, to the detriment of even doing the job they pay me borderline sub-living wages for.

I can sit here and pretend like I thought up the German all on my own but what I actually did was cross reference the English transcript of Thor Dark World with a German subtitle file until I got the Loki quote I wanted and I just fucked around and found out in Google Translate that I liked the reply of “Vielleicht.” dunno what else to tell you other than my German is incredibly rusty Okay so I kinda have my own thoughts, feelings and opinions about Klavier and Kristoph and how they still work after yknow, the Apollo Justice game concludes. So uh I saw the fandom yelling a lot about Klavier cutting his hair after the ordeal to be less like Kristoph and then someone was like “okay but consider Kristoph cutting his hair cause he wants to be less like Klavier?” And then the braincell in charge of my creativity slammed its hands on the defense desk and went “bOTH!! BOTH IS GOOD!!” Well, both. kinda. sorta. No wait listen hear me out;  these two, aside from brothers, are very clearly parallels to each other. So Kristoph gets the full “slice off my hair cause if I look in the mirror and see Klavier again I’m going to fucking sCREAM” breakdown scenario Klavier on the other hand takes a sabbatical after the game concludes and basically spirals into depression for quite a while and starts dressing in tshirts, hoodies and sweatpants and doesnt have the energy to care about his hair so it just does its thing and grows until some time before he’s reinstated as prosecutor he catches his reflection and is like “when the fuck did my hair get that long” and has it professionally cut back to a length he can and wants to deal with. thanks for coming to my TEDtalk

okay so idk if you watched/are planning on watching falcon and winter soldier but i watched the first episode the other day and they were speaking french (just a few seconds) and I UNDERSTOOD SOME WORDS DLDJDJ and i was so proud of myself. i‘ve only ever learned french with duolingo lol (i only do like 5 mins a day and that‘s why i was so surprised that i understood some of it!!). and yeah apart from latin i feel like italian, german, french and english are all similar in a sense.. i mean obviously they‘re completely different languages but for example there are some grammatical constructions in french that i think i wouldn‘t understand if i only spoke english? so when i translate those things into english you can‘t directly translate them bc you say things differently, but when i translate them into german then it makes more sense to me. idk that‘s something i noticed so i feel like if you already know multiple languages it‘s easier to learn another language compared to if you only know one language and are trying to learn a second one. even if the languages aren‘t similar then i think you get the hang of it easier.

Translation: Kai Havertz portait in ZEIT newspaper (January 2019)

NOTE: Hey guys! This time I tried something new. I translated an exclusive portrait the german weekly newspaper DIE ZEIT did with Kai in January. They interviewed him as well as Kai’s family. Its very candid and has alot of details. I hope you guys like it, since DIE ZEITs writing is usually very difficult - even for germans. And I apologize for spelling errors as usual.

Kai Havertz: the peace itself

People praise Leverkusens national player Kai Havertz, 19, for his serenity with the ball which put him on the radar of many European top clubs. His parents start to realize that he is likely becoming world famous.

The most promising german football talent these days picked a table very far behind in an restaurant somewhere in Cologne to order himself some spagetti gnocchi – inconspicuous.

There is no star posturing with Kai Havertz. The 19 year old could even go through as a normal university student; with his bright hoodie and somewhat cheap and not even special occurence.

And with his voice, which has this typical regional dialect, without the typical empty phrases that young football player use to often in order to cover up their meaningless sentences. But people know his face by now. So thats why he doesnt sit right next to the entrance.

He belongs to the celebrities of the football scene. European top clubs are scouting the young men in stadiums, team mates from Bayer Leverkusen praising him and forecasting him to have the potential to become a world star.

He already scored nine goals this season, decided some games by his own and played his first games for the national team. Havertz became the centre of his clubs game by playing at the centre midfield. His role only changed slightly and the importance of his role not at all, since Peter Bosz took over as head coach. He views this very relaxed and talks in an restaurant somewhere in the Belgian Quarter of Cologne about Leverkusen being the „perfect place“ in order to develop as a young player. And thats where he wants to give his all for the last half year ahead. Ooops!

His last half year? That was a slip of the tongue of course, he meant to say the next half year. Because his contract with Bayer is still running until 2022 without an exit clause. But things now are developing in a rapid way which runs parallel to his explosive performance currently. Its just a matter of the perfect timing that someone like him will end up going to Barcelona, Manchester or at least Munich – a choice between summer 2019 or summer 2020 maybe.

Havertz walks over his misspelled sentence like nothing happend. Once in Nuremberg in the middle of a turmoil of an rainy game, it seemed as if he stopped – as if he was reconsidering the situation with him having the ball. Like if somebody pressed a ‚Stop‘-button. And he chiped to ball in an cool and unemoitional and scored.

Coaches and team mates are citizing his body language, he says. So he works on looking more aggresive. He even participates on useless discussions between his teammates and referees after controversial decisions on the pitch, in order to get a penalty for the other team or some revenge. But it doesnt really look good him when he does it, he admits – even after a though tackle or when going after the ball. „I’m a player that shines with his tranquility.“ A nice sentence that gives away his elegante style of play.

Havertz remained an artist on the pitch. Every foul is a sign of weakness. Everytime he gets the ball, which is his job as an offensive player, he never runs into his opponents – he anticipates. „I try to imagine, which options my opponent has, what he would do if I were him.“ He then runs with a planned pass way and he gets the ball.

Havertz learned in the past almost two and a half years all systems and tatics of modern football. Starting with a radical system, almost a raid-strategy under coach Roger Schmidt, by which the goal keeper kicked the ball high and it flew wide over the pitch – almost always directly aimed at Havertz‘ head – because he is 1,88 meters tall.

Then the mixed system under Heiko Herrlich. He always had to look for his team mates before he passed. Now with Bosz, a planfull offensive style with flat passing. He runs through all the chapters. The first began on October 15, 2016.

It was a Saturday. A day where the Havertz family from Mariadorf near Aachen still couldnt realize that their youngest son, will probably end up living off football and perhaps even become famous. They cant really believe it up until today, says Anne Havertz, his mother.

On that day – October 15 – Kai was a youth player, in a big house next to the woods in Mariadorf having breakfast – when suddently coach Schmidt called. Lars Bender, professional Bayer-player who was supposed to play against Werder Bremen that evening, got injured and had to quit. Kai had to come to Bremen, immidiately! His mother drove him to Leverkusen. A special shuttle took him to Bremen. His whole family was sitting in front of the TV that night.

Kai was sitting on the bench as expected. Then, during the 83th minute, the commentator saw already more than the viewes and said: now we are experiencing a debut. Kai Havertz was ready to get subbed. In the real Bundesliga. Anne Havertz said: „Oh my god!“.

Kai’s mother, who worked as a lawyer until she got pregnant with her eldest son, came to the restaurant in Cologne one day after Kai to talk about life as a family of an future world star. She brought her husband – Kai’s father, and her daughter Lea, Kai’s sister. The sister is studying marketing and digital media in the city.

People can reach his father in an emergency by dailing 1-1-0. He is a police officer working at the police station 3 in Cologne-West. He says he is really impressed, about how cool and routinely his football playing son manages post-game interviews and how we stays cool when people recognize him in public and everybody is watching,

The Havertz family is still perplexed about a football world where colleagues of their son, order their own cooks to cook for them at home. And whenever he puts his legs into an special bag in order to regenerate. Almost the whole family – except his oldest brother and the dog – are having apple pie and salate and looking back at the stages of his career, which started at Alemannia Mariadorf. Kai skiped two age-groups. He then played with older players than actually intended. Then he transfered to Bayer Leverkusen. All because the scout was tough but not intrusive like the other scouts. By the age of ten, Bayer drove Kai to training sessions three times a week.

He was still among the smallest players in the team by the age of 14. Then suddently - a growth spurt which resultet in issues with his knees and his back. They were responsible for Kai loosing his fixed spot on the team. This was also the hard time because he left home and moved to Leverkusen. The club doesnt have an academy so he stayed at a guest family – the family of the stadium announcer from Bayer, together with two other players. A year later he moved into an apartement with his older brother, until Jan had to move to Nuremberg – he has a marketing job at adidas now.

A lasting memory: endless discussions within the Havertz family about the overarching question: does the boy need a german high school diploma (Abitur)? Will he pass the tests when he is travelling around with his professional teammates?

Kai Havertz attended the Landrat-Lucas-Gymnasium. An elite school of sports where he could skip classes in the morning for training. But he always had to catch up school stuff from the day. Once he played with Leverkusen at the DFB-Cup at Sportfreunde Lotte. He was subbed late, it went into penalities and after the team was eliminated from the cup he arrived home late – at 3am. At 8am he had an English exam.

The family became a team. His mother and sister helped him with biology exams. One day the young football player said to his family, he has no power left anymore. „But he never said: I want to quit!“ his mother insists. This was a breaking point by which his parents thought about quitting and stop pursuing the Abitur. But suddently coach Roger Schmidt intervened and said Kai should pull through. The whole Bayer team will support him.

The Abitur became a factor of will power, a test of life. The school supervisor of Bayer, a former athlete herself, said something memorable: it will shape his whole life if Kai quits school now. Whenever something becomes difficult, if something goes beyond your pain barrier, he will always have this option to quit in his head, that you can just give up.

Kai Havertz choose the pain, the Abitur. Now he will always choose the hard way if the theory of his supervisor holds.

On this January afternoon in Cologne, he is being asked what other job he would have picked if it wasnt for football. He likes the job as a barber, for men’s hairstyle. He smiles. Some curls are hanging on his forehead from left to right. A Barber. He wouldnt have needed an Abitur for that.

He is a genius at football. He won the German junior championship with Bayer and scored 19 goals in 29 games. He got awarded as a Under-19-player as the best of his age with the Fritz-Walter-medal from the DFB. Kai made it onto second place on his position after Marco Reus from Dortmund in a list of the football magazine „kicker“ which they publish every half year – but seven spaces in front of Munich’s Thomas Müller.

Coach Heiko Herrlich says Havertz reminds him of Toni Kroos. Football critic Reiner Calmund compared him to Franz Beckenbauer. His head goals remind him of Michael Ballack. Mesut Özil was always Kai Havertz idol, because of his tranquility with the ball and his ability to read a game. Sometimes Kai misses the final conciseness in front of the goal, which was visible after the recent 0-1 loss against Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Having the ability to remain calm, even when you get tackled is the result of a deep confidence in your own strenghts: screen your surrondings – in short time if necessary – and then make the right decision. Joachim Löw praises Havertz „good orientation“, something he said about Özil years ago. What he means is a certain sense of space on the pitch – an inner compass. Something that has to do with attention and memory. Havertz, who is a master of navigation, doesn’t even need practice. Some creatures have special senses and are able to find orientation on earth through a magnetic field – like migratory birds for example.

Kai Havertz likes watching Champions League games. And while watching them, there is always a wish inside him to participate as well whenever the big games of the quarter- and semifinals are on. „I think you can only reach that level by going to a top club at some point“ he says.

Mother, father and sister Havertz say, they don’t expect things from him. Something they never did in his career. But if someone asks them, who will follow Kai in a foreign country to get used to everything – they start to think about it. They would alternate. One week his mother would visit, next week his sister and then his grandmother maybe.

Kai Havertz still has a room back home in Mariadorf. Back in the day he used to have posters from FC Barcelona. So it could happen maybe one day, that youngsters in Barcelona will have posters with Kai Havertz on them.

ChriKra did an amazing interview, I think they overran by an hour, but it was sooooo funny...!!! They had people ask him questions. Jonas Hofmann asked "Hi Chris, it's Jonas. I'd really like to know: Do you like your own dressing style?" and Chris replied Yes! He does! He's aware he's a very boring dresser, with his trousers and basic t-shirts and long-sleeve shirts, but he's comfortable and that's his priority. "I sound like I'm > forty, don't I? WHO CARES!" interviewers: So the others in the

dressing room have more swag?“ Chris "I mean *obviously*! Just look at Ibo Traoré! He can pull off *everything*! To be honest, I’d love to be able to wear that, all that glitz and glam and gold that he does, but if I tried that people would say ‘look at the lanky German, what does he think he’s doing?!” He says some nice and wise things as well, and spends a good deal gushing about Thorsten Mattuschka, which is so cute. “To me it was love at first sight!”

He also he says he currently “can’tstand Dieter Hecking” for benching him. The reporter’s obviously a bit shocked and CK says “That’s normal, isn’t it?” and says he and Hecking get on really well personally; though you can tell he’s really miffed, & that Hecking’s not giving him good reasons for it (Hecking was actually asked about that statement by Chris and said he understood him perfectly & that it definitely wasn’t Chris’ fault. A bit weird.) 

His former Bochum coach asks a question, Kießling and Leno, Lars and Ginter, Knippiand Mattuschka and a comedian and the ZDF presenter that he did the world cup stint with (Breyer, who starts out “Hi my favourite colleague, 1st question, when will you hang up your boots and join me full time?”). HAHA! He’s asked if there are people who just know him as TV pundit, not as a footballer, because apparently Mehmet Scholl mentioned that once. CK “Well I can say, my presenting went over well with the ladies over sixty. I’ve got many elderly ladies telling me know what a cute littlelittle thing I am. I trace that back to the ZDF work, rather than football…” Apparently the cashiers in the supermarket say that to him “And I have to say I love it, every time! It’s the best compliment!" BILD reporter "It’s obvious, by the way, that you are quite well liked by your teammates and other colleagues, since every single person we asked to participate and send in questions agreed to do so immediately. Well, one exception. We also asked Max Kruse and he said he'd do everything for Christoph Kramer, but not for BILD. Which, well, ok, fair play to him, I respect that." .... 

oh, he's still keeping that diary. Düsseldorf game entry goes something like "sat on the bench again and it sucked, really annoyed. On the other hand we won 3-0, still up in the table, yay." Also he does NOT complain constantly about not playing "that would be really shitty for my teammates who do play, wouldn't it?" and the atmo in the team's apparently great, and heloves them all. Would he rather play for Dortmund or for Bayern? Neither, he wants to stay in Gladbach. What was the best offer that he seriously considered before deciding against it? Ever since 2014 he's repeatedly been approached by Italian clubs and he did consider it once, during the season at Leverkusen, but then Gladbach contacted him and everything else became irrelevant. 

"You learned to play the guitar -" "No stop it, shut up, I didn't." "What?" "Well. I can't. I really tried but I... I can't. It really hurt on my fingers as well, I was so told it was supposed to, but no. You know, if you have ten lessons and still can't play a single chord, you have to face the truth: you're not made out to play the guitar. I'll take up piano lessons soon, but I'll fail that, too." "Is that really the spirit?" "Oh, I definitely won't be able to play two-handed, but, you know, maybe with one hand. Actually I just want to be able to say, "care to hear a song?" and then play one." "Oh, so we'llsee you on stage soon on the piano." "No, you definitely won't. I have not a single musical bone in my body. Probably once my football career is over, when I can focus all my energy and concentration on music, I'll try really hard and learn to play the recorder." HAHAHA. He's really quite funny. 

Leno asks why, even after he left, there was a pair of shoes of his hanging in some room of the Bayer 04 premises. And he gets all emotional: those were his FAVOURITE shoes! A pair of white adidas running shoes, he loved them so much. And he stepped in dog shit with them!! "So, dissolved in tears, I ran into the showers with them and spent ages trying to clean them, but the material, and the surface structure was such..." He couldn't get them clean. Or rather, they looked alright, but they still *smelled*. He should have thrown them away, but he *really didn't want to!!!* So he hoped that if they could just air out they'd be alright & so he hung them on a hook in some little back room."So if, by chance, anybody from Leverkusen is listening and, hoping against all hope, those shoes are still there: I'd REALLY like them back!! ...But you've probably long thrown them away and I really can't blame you..." He is soooo funny, and really likable. 

The thing with the podcast is that he gets a squeaky toy (or whatever) and when he doesn't want to answer he can use it, he gets that option 2x2 times (2 for each part of the podcast) and he does use it once. The reporter starts "A littlewhile ago someone tried to blackmail you with pictures - oh ladies and gentlemen, there it is-" "[squeak]" Do you want to hear more? The entire thing is priceless. To the interviewer's great surprise, he's recently taken up golf. "Yes, well, my parents are both newly retired and to stop them from bashing each other's head in spending all that time together at home, I had to think of sth I could do with my dad so I gave him golfing lessons for his birthday. And it's much more fun than expected.""What about your mum?" "Her birthday's not been yet. But I have to think of something. I hope I will." 

The first part is about sports, Gladbach, Bundesliga, fans/ultras, world cup 2014, world cup 2018, his career, the second part is more personal. I don't know how long it's supposed to be, but in the first part, at some point, the interviewer says "to be honest we've already run far overtime but I actually have no intention of stopping you, I'm having so much fun...". It's called phrasenmäher (pun on "Phrasen" and "Rasenmäher") and I'd never heard of it before, but going by the reactions on twitter, ChriKra's was the best one yet and much more entertaining than the previous one with Lahm twitter com/DreiMannSturm/status/1062081498998824960. It's really extremely entertaining! (They also talk about some serious stuff, btw. I was quite happy with the big majority of his responses. But all in all, he's really very likable!)

^ i got this from a used bookstore and it's very solid; i've only gone through some of the rudimentary stuff but i work better with textbooks for certain things because i like having a visual reference, so that's nice, especially with verbs which i feel like are really important with portuguese. also it does actually still have the cd inside it is like brand new which is wild to me why did someone abandon this immediately?? but yeah i really prefer language learning in a classroom setting but since i don't have that at the moment still having a textbook with more guided learning is helpful for me.

i've also been using a textbook that's on learning portuguese for spanish speakers but written in english, which is absolutely perfect for me lmao. it's in this mega drive from a user on here (ive rbed the post before, its in my language learning tag). there's a few more textbooks in there as well that seem interesting along with an extremely outdated book on dirty portuguese that i only recommend using to have a laugh at shit like "make whoopie" translated into ptbr.

also in terms of case stuff i had it explained pretty well with yiddish as that was a pretty big topic of conversation since its also very case dependent, but as a native eng speaker im still sometimes like wtf is going on here. yiddish is basically the only language i speak that really uses cases to any significant degree so cases are somewhat odd to me & im curious how similar yiddish and german cases are. also my understanding is amongst many contemporary hasidic speakers (so the majority of native speakers), case just isn't really a thing anymore, which is pretty interesting. anyway here's a chart of yiddish cases that is formatted for eng speakers and confuses me every time i look at it:

but yeah back to the main point busuu doesnt really do what i need aside from reminding me to practice some vocab daily so i'm going to finish out the course (i have like a couple lessons left it's a VERY short course. also its claiming this will mean im at b2 and like i could PROBABLY pass a certification test on that because i test well + have a solid handle on the language + the benefit of speaking spanish but i would not personally classify myself as b2 yet) and then continue studying with the textbooks along with all the watching streams/vods/listening to music kind of stuff.

having busuu explain cases without actually explaining cases is kind of wild to me. like yes this is dative. this just makes sense to me, a person who speaks a heavily case-dependent language. however hearing it explained as "we are performing and receiving the action of looking into the mirror" is like. well i suppose this is correct yes but what a way to phrase it

i’m back from berlin and im still so????? why couldnt it have lasted longer???? but at the same time im glad group stage is over and fnatic cant give me any more heart attacks until the weekend lmao. but!! i need to yell about this!!

I got tickets for day 4 and day 5 which was a bit of a miracle bc i booked them like an hour or so after sales started. initially i wanted to go with my ex coworker but literally last monday he learned that he couldnt come bc of an emergency at his work :(( so my brother went with me!!

we were a bit late on both days but not much lmao. i ran into sjokz during the break and she was!! so cute!!!!! im still sobbing i love her!!!!!!!!! we sat behind some other fnatic fans so during fnc vs. fw we were shouting at the top of our lungs with them!! those smite steals tho!! broxah in general!! and caps!! and bwipo!! and aaaaaaa!! my throat hurt a bit at the end of the match ;; but boy we were so hyped!! and then fnc lost to tl and that was that. we spent the train ride home complaining about that awful team comp and calculating exactly how safe fnatic still were lmao

but i got pics with both fnc and tl!! 

sadly i wasnt allowed to hug them during the fanmeet. rito doesnt like soft bitches it seems ;_; i just wanted to hug broxah again ;_; hopefully next time tho!!

then day 5 was when i went into cardiac arrest. after the fnc vs kingzone match i was super worried and emo and the rioters were throwing merch at the audience so my brother tried to to catch one for me to cheer me up. except we didn’t cheer loudly enough so they didnt throuw any at us :(( we almost had a sibling fight about it because i thought he wanted one for himself so when i offered to buy one for him at the merch shop we started arguing back and forth. but after the fnc vs evos match, when i needed it most, i actually caught a meep!! and by caught i mean it actually flew at the guys behind us but they didnt catch it and it rolled under my chair and i snatched it before anyone else could haha. anyway i’m a proud mother now!!

anyway tl and fnc were tied and if tl were to win against rng that would have been the end for fnc. during the break one rng pr guy went around the audience asking around like “fnatic? fnatic??????” and gave every fnatic fan an rng sign lmao

but cheering for rng was so much fun! rng fans are so dedicated and enthusiastic omg ;w; and rng pulled through!! thank mr uzi!! i even got to high five him and the rest of rng aaaaaa ;; so ofc my brother and i ended up cheering for rng during their tiebreaker too. i had so much fun i think i wouldn’t have been that upset if fnc hadnt made it tbh!!

but they did it!! i almost started crying tbh im still so happy and so proud of them QwQ and i also got to high five the best toplaner, if not the best player of all time, gabriël “bwipo” rau,

im super glad i had the chance to watch all those games live. the atmosphere in the studio was amazing!! shout out to the team liquid fans tbh! and also my condolences. tl did so amazing and its so sad they couldnt advance ;; but all in all im so so so happy how it all turned out!! 10/10 would do again in a heartbeat!!

tell me about your photoshop troubles. i have had the same in the past (specifically #THE AMOUNT OF VIRUSES I'VE HAD ON MY COMPUTER) and it's good to know someone else has them too 😂😂

Okay so it started last week. I've been "Photoshopping" things for years now but I've always used knockoff programs and never bothered to get the actual thing. So I decide to make an edit and I want to try using actual Photoshop this time, so FIRST I go to download the episodes but the fucking download program I got,,,,, it's in GERMAN. So I'm opening google translate and attempting to do this download, then it just crashes and it doesn't work. So then I get a rec from my friend for a good ENGLISH WORKING SAFE program so I get that and download it and the episodes. Day 1 is over. Next day I decide to download photoshop and fucking,,,,,, it's in SPANISH. Now I've been taking Spanish for 3 years now so it's to the point where I'm like "Okay I know that archivo means file so I'm just gonna stick with this" so I run downstairs and I pick up that old Spanish English dictionary I bought 3 years ago for my first Spanish class and haven't opened since, and I'm looking for the freaking import button, and the program itself DOESNT HAVE AN IMPORT BUTTON (I even clicked on that thing that was like 'show all menu options' or something like that, it still wasn't there, no import button) so THAT concludes my experience with Español Photoshop. The rest of Day 2 is downloading as many different photoshop links as I can find, just trying to find ONE that worked. I swear to God and Jesus I'm not exaggerating when I say I downloaded hundreds of things, I can open my laptop and check for the exact number but I swear it was at least 150 different things. Out of all of those, 6 of them worked. Number one was the Spanish one, and then the next one? In Italian. It worked perfectly but it was in Italian and this was one of the earlier downloads, I'm still full of hope, not just desperate for anything that says "Photoshop" on it, so I delete. Next one was Portuguese, and the one after THAT was Japanese. All of these claimed to be in English and btw I learned from my series of photoshop adventures that you can't change the language, it's connected to where you downloaded from and you have to pay to change it. So at this point I'm PRETTY far into the list of like 150 downloads, and out of the 4 that had worked so far, they were all in different languages. So understandably I'm getting very frustrated and I keep downloading things, and then finally, oh thank the lord finally, it's in English and it's working. Tears of joy running down my face-- and then my laptop just shuts off. I wait for it to power back on and then I get a little notification, it had found a virus and had to remove it. So I check and of course, English Photoshop was the virus it got rid of. So then, maybe 15 downloads later, that's when things got interesting. I find another working download, but the language of it is what's weird. It's half in English, half in Spanish. I don't ever want to look at another foreign word again. Sorry to my Spanish teacher, but this was like my 12th hour doing this and why are there so many languages to download photoshop in???? I was so exhausted, I couldn't do it anymore. I didn't want to settle at Half English though, so I delete it and keep looking. I kept looking for a while, until finally giving up. Six downloads had worked, and I couldn't use any of them. Now I think this is a good time to tell you that I'm currently having finals week, and instead of studying, THIS was what I've been doing (and it definitely didn't do anything to ease my anxiety levels). So I go and study for a few hours, figuring I'm done with Photoshop. But that's not who I am, when I spend so much time trying to do something, I'm gonna do it. Not out of determination, but it comes to a point where I'm doing it out of spite, just to say that I finally did it. So it's around 3am and I'm like "Okay I'm gonna download a few more and then I'm going to sleep" so I start downloading some and then around the third one, it's in English and it works. You can imagine my tears of joy. So I turn on FRIENDS and go the hell to sleep. Now it's day 3, I have the downloaded episodes and I have the working English photoshop, now all I have to do is make the edit, right? Wrong. I go to put the video into photoshop, and it's saying it's the wrong file type and it's not supported by Photoshop. So at first I'm like "okay that's understandable, I did just download them" so my FIRST problem is downloading a file converter. I'm not going to get into the story, but it's pretty similar to how it took to download Photoshop, hundreds of downloads, the only ones that worked are in foreign languages, and THIS was the day where I get the most notifications from my computer saying it located viruses. Now after a long long long time downloading tons of file converters, I finally find one to use. So I go to convert the files and then I try and put the converted files into photoshop and whoooop it didn't work. Now the rest of Day 3 consisted of me converting the files into HUNDREDS of different types. I converted them into basic things, things Photoshop claimed it supported, things all the people with similar problems online claimed they needed to convert into, things I hadn't even heard of. In the end, after around 15 hours of converting files, I FINALLY found something that photoshop will take. Now onto Day 4, this should be the easy day, now I just have the make the edit. Well my very first problem is that now I'm opening photoshop and I realize something, this has been going on so long I can't even remember what my idea to edit was. So then I'm just like "whatever I'll gif a random scene and put a meme on it, I gotta do something" So I go to make the gif, when I find out THE FREAKING PHOTOSHOP I DOWNLOADED DOESNT HAVE THE ANIMATION TIMELINE. I don't know why it didn't have it, but it didn't. So I end up going online and downloading the timeline separately, basically using it kinda like a psd. So I get the timeline and I want to make the gif and remove some frames, but for whatever reason my Photoshop doesn't let me select multiple frames at once, so I have to go through like 500 frames and manually delete each of them to get what I want. Now I think now is the time in this story to tell y'all that I'm not just stupid or anything. I know how to use Photoshop, I've been using it since I was in the sixth grade, I used to be in the digital editing club at my school, I know how to use photoshop, it's just this program is so wacky nothing is working. So manually I delete like 450 frames and after that everything with making the gif seems to be going well, up until it's time to add the text. I start typing and the font I'm using? Times New Roman. But instead these random symbols are showing up and it won't let me change it. So I just delete everything and start over and then I get up to adding text again, and this time symbols aren't showing up, instead just whatever letter I press, it just puts in a dash. So I'm tryna write the subtitles and instead what's coming up is "----------------" Now, after several several several redos it FINALLY starts writing letters, and there are a few more minor issues but for the most part everything is running smoothly, I finally make the gifs.So to conclude, this gifset took 4 days, 6 languages, hundreds of downloads, God-knows how many viruses, and an entire ocean of tears, but I finally made the gifs.Here's the link. Today was another pretty messed up schoolday. It all started way to early again.

I came to school being all sassy and sleepy. I walked up to my class and guess what…. Teacher was absent. So there we sat with the whole class doing nothing….well okay i tried to learn a bit Spanish for my vocabulary test on Spanish. But its kinda hard to learn with a loud surrounding and i can be kinda nerdy but we all can imagine i didnt feel much for studying.

Next we had german and we had to do a presentation about a animation program for an hour. I decided to be a little creative and tought of an circuit. I translated everything online what made me end up putting all the information in my powerpoint….yes the teacher told me not to but i suck at german….so my teacher helped me to get a tutor for it today and i hope it will help.

Next was a project. Its to complicated to tell you guys all about it but it includes making an animation program we really going to give to the first class students. I really love halloween so it won’t be a surprise i loved it when i heard im going in the days where the ghost tour is given.

then we had some time left to practice on spanish before the test. I really wanted to do this even though i already learned a little i didnt felt sure about it. but one of my classmates r and another girl k i have one class with were nagging about an assignment we still had to do. We had to make a video where we ask people about the different cultures and how they deal with it. we planned that weeks ago but every time we did someone got sick or we had to reschedule.

By now i didnt felt much for it anyway but we planned it after School. k was free earlier and my classmate r decided with her that we could do it in the break and before we had to be there for our test. But i told them no because i wanted to practice. And suddenly they started to attack me with that it had to be done soon and that we already planned it a little while ago and that if we were fast i would still have time to practice. But i knew it was a false promise and i didnt wanted to ruin my Spanish since i go there for my internship.

I started to practice with another classmate and by the time it was my turn and r’s turn since we were scheduled togheter r wasnt there. all i thought was see! I told you it wouldnt work out. So i decided to say yes to my classmate i practiced with to go togheter. It turned out a good choice since i could somehow help her a little and i got a 7 for it.

After that i saw r walking past the class we had the test in. And i was thinking like i made the right decision. If i went to go with them i wouldn’t have had time to practice anymore. Even beter i wouldnt be on time for my test.

Then i went home and i got a text from r. It started with thats she didnt wanted to make a fight out of things but then she wrote an whole essay about that i didn’t walked up to her to make new assignments and shouldnt talk bad about her. And i was like wtf all i didnt had to make assignment with her for anything, i didnt felt the need to talk to her at all and all i said to the girl i practiced with was what happend and why i was irritated.

But it doesnt make me wonder because i always seem to end up having fights with r if i don’t bite my tong. And if i start to do friendly instead of bitching to her he is like all over me and sticky like tape. And i cant get rid of her since i dont always like to be bitchy to her. anyone tips to get rid of a sticky know it all fake friend?

Anyway i might sound bitchy now but that’s all because im irritated…sorry. And i should still start learning for my german retake test tomorrow…oops
