Can I request a Cody and reader one shot with the theme of overworking? The reader is in a position in which she’s being overworked (whether it’s bec it’s the natural workload for the reader or bec the reader’s coworkers is relying on them to help finish their workload) and Cody’s just trying to coax them to take a break and destress with him. Thanks! 💖
Overworked
Summary: You're doing too much, and Cody knows it.
Pairing: Commander Cody x Reader
Word Count: 1047
Warnings: Insecurity (brought about by exhaustion and mean-girl coworkers)
Tagging: @trixie2023 @n0vqni
A/N: Hihi! I'm sorry this took so long, but I hope you like it! It took me a while to come up with good words to make this word well! ^-^
Tumblr media
You like your job. You do. It’s just that some times of the year, your job sucks worse a little more than others. And you know you shouldn’t complain. Your job pays you well enough that you’re able to live in a higher district on Coruscant, and your own boyfriend doesn't get paid at all-
You’re lucky. The fact that your coworkers expect so much from you is a good thing.
You just have to keep reminding yourself.
You stare at the spreadsheet laid out in front of you, and you tangle your hands in your hair. You’re working on hour 12 of your normally 8 hour workday, and you’re on hour 60 of this workweek.
You’re exhausted. Bone deep exhausted. But you can’t rest until the spreadsheet is fixed.
Besides, Cody does a lot more than 60 hour weeks and he never complains, so it’s not far for you to complain about a little extra work. You slide your hands to the back of your neck, and try to work some of the painful knots out.
It’s not going to work. It never does. But you also feel like you can’t, shouldn’t, ask Cody for help. Because he will. He’ll come in and he’ll dote on you, and you won’t finish your work, and…well, the last thing you want is to be more work for Cody.
So you’ll power through. It’s fine.
You drop your hands back to your desk, and you start going through the spreadsheet again, line by line, number by number.
And then you jump when you feel warm hands against the back of your neck, “Cyare,” Cody’s voice is low, “You’ve been at this for hours. You need a break.”
“I’m almost done,” You reply as you relax under his touch.
“You said that three hours ago, mesh’la.”
You both pause when your datapad dings, and another spreadsheet comes through your email, and your face falls. “Just a little more, Cody. I promise.”
He hums thoughtfully, and then he slides his hands from your neck to your shoulders, and he digs his thumbs into the tense muscles there. You yelp, and then, as he starts slowly massaging your shoulders, your shoulders slump. “Is there a reason you’re working so hard, cyare?”
“It needs to be done,” You mumble.
“I know, baby. But you shouldn’t have to pull 12 hour shifts and 50 hour work weeks-”
“60.” You correct as you lean back into his touch.
Cody huffs out a sharp breath, “That’s worse. Tell me you understand that that’s worse.” He presses a light kiss to the top of your head, “Come on, cyare. Take a break, the work will wait.”
“I don’t-”
“I’ll give you a full body massage, love. With the oils you like so much.” He moves his lips from the top of your head to your neck, and you can’t help but to sigh in pleasure at the feel of his warm lips against your skin. “Nothing strenuous. Just relaxing.”
“Sounds nice,” You mumble.
“It does, doesn’t it.” He sounds smug about it too.
A low sigh falls from your lips and you reach up to lightly trail your fingers against his cheek, and then up into his hair, “I’m sorry.”
Cody pauses, “For what?”
Your smile is slightly wry, “For being just another burden for you to take care of.”
At that he stops moving. And then he moves very fast, spinning your chair so you’re facing him, and he’s kneeling in front of you, his hands warm against your face, “If I’ve ever done or said anything to make you think that I don’t love taking care of you-”
“No, it’s not you, Cody.” You interrupt gently, “I think it of myself.”
“Your brain is playing tricks on you, cyare. Acts of service, taking care of you, it’s how I express my love. You know that.”
“I do.” You agree as you press your cheek against his hand. “Just…some of my coworkers said something, and-”
“And they don’t know me. They barely know you.” He smooths his thumbs over your cheeks, “Why are you letting them get into your head?”
“I don’t know.” You admit with a sigh, “Maybe I’m just tired.”
“I’m sure you are.” He stands and helps you to your feet, lightly tugging you so that you’re pressed against him, and Cody presses feather light kisses across your face, “Why don’t you tell me what your coworkers say?”
“Stupid things. I complain too much about a normal workload. That you work so much more than me, so I should just suck it up-”
Cody bumps his forehead against yours, “I hate them.”
A startled laugh falls from your lips, “Cody!”
“What? I’m not a Jedi, I’m allowed to hate.” But his lips quirk up into a small smile, “I want to hear about your life. I want to hear you complain about your work and your coworkers, and I absolutely do not want you working as much as I do.”
You sigh softly, “I know.”
“I know that you know, but you seem to need the reminder.” Cody leans in and kisses you. A series of kisses so soft and loving that you kind of want to cry. “So here’s your reminder. I love you. I love you. I love you.”
You grin at him, “I love you too.”
“Shh. I’m doting on you now. You can have your turn later.”
A giggle falls from you, and he smiles at you, “Now, I owe you a massage. Come on, little love. Off to bed with you, and get naked.”
“You just want me naked,”
“Not gonna deny that, but I’m also not getting oil on your clothes. Scoot.”
You step around him, and then pause. You turn and pull him into a deep kiss, your arms tight around his neck. And when you break the kiss, his gaze is a little hazy, “I love you so much, you know that?” You whisper.
He blinks at you, as you watch him try to reset his brain, “Maybe you should kiss me like that again, to prove it.”
You laugh and pull him back into a deep, passionate kiss, and this time his arms curl tightly around you as he holds you just as tightly.

Phantom Pain 10
Hey loves. I'm back with part 10! I hope you enjoy a bit of gambling and possessive Shanks. ❤️
Masterlist
Tumblr media
The bar is full of patrons, sweet smelling smoke curls in the air, and you have to fight the sneer that wants to play on your lips. This definitely isn't your scene, but Shanks had wanted to play cards and had given you big puppy dog eyes when he'd asked if you would come with him. You could feel how excited he was to play his little card game, but you couldn't help but feel a bit of trepidation. This place was full of men and women who looked like they would rather eat you than greet you.
You are stuck between Shanks and Benn, the older man acting as a buffer and keeping you away from the other gamblers inside the shoddy casino bar. You are grateful for it.
“I won't let anything happen to you, baby. Don't ya trust me?” Shanks crooned. Your side of the bond is lashing like an angry eel, full of anxiety that Shanks tries to soothe with his own confidence. You take the feeling and wrap yourself in it, shoulders slumping and a bit more relaxed now.
“Course I trust you. I just don't trust anyone else here. Aside from you. Benn.”
The older man huffs, and mutters dryly, “Thanks.”
Shanks snickers and presses a kiss to the top of your head. The three of you look for an empty table and find one close to the back. There are only two seats left, so Benn takes one, and Shanks plops in the other, looking up at you with a grin and patting his lap.
“You don't mind if I keep my good luck charm, do you?” Shanks says, his smile open and friendly, but tone firm and the dealer shrugs, dealing the redhead and Benn in. You ignore the looks you get for that remark, though the man that sits across from you doesn't take his greedy eyes off of you, instead blatantly ogling your bust and any other bit of skin that you have showing.
You pick up the cards, looking down at them and angle your hands to where Shanks could see them. You had no idea what you were doing, having never played this before.
Shanks can feel your rising confusion and tug you close to his chest, arm securely wrapped around your waist. He glares at the miscreant across the table, and you shiver when you feel his lips graze your ear.
“This is BlackJack. We're trying to beat the dealer, and if our cards go over 21, then we bust. The closest to 21 wins the round, and we play until the entire deck is run through.”
You nod. It seemed simple enough. You look at your two cards, finding 8 of hearts and 6 of diamonds staring up at you, and set them back on the table, replicating the way Benn has laid his hand out.
The dealer flips one of his cards, keeping the other laid face down, and you squint to see the 10 of Spades. You jump when Shanks speaks up again.
“Now we think. Do we stay or do hit for another card? An ace can be 1 or 11, but kings, queens, and jacks are labeled at 10. The other cards we take at face value.”
You lick your lips, watching the other people at the table. Benn hits and is dealt another card. He keeps it face down beside his other cards. You look at your cards again. 14. Anything higher than a 7, and it'd be a bust.
Shanks feels you come to your conclusion and speaks up for his soul mate when it's their turn.
“Hit.”
The dealer slides them a card, keeping it face down. Once the rest of the table has made their decision, the dealer flips his face down card, revealing an 8 of diamonds. You follow everyone else's lead and flip your card, frowning when it's an ace of clubs. They'd lost.
“Damn. Deal us back in,” Shanks demands, and soon, the five men and you have been given two face-up cards. You shift in your seat, content to let your soulmate be the one to choose this round.
The hours pass, and the bar begins to become a bit more lively with the falling sun and the flowing drinks. You are pleasantly buzzed, slumped back into Shanks, brow pressed into collarbone. The game has slowly lost your interest after the two of you had continued to lose. A wiry smirk twists your lips. Some lucky charm you were.
The sudden silence of your table and the way Shanks’ end of the bond flashes with a sudden rage, has you blinking the blurriness from your vision and sitting up. You glance at your soulmate and shiver at seeing such a nasty grin on his handsome face. He is staring at the man who couldn't keep his eyes off you, and you have a very bad feeling that the next couple seconds were pivotal for his survival.
“Say that again, I don't think my seastar heard you,” Shanks demands, and his grip on you becomes borderline painful, the hand he has on your thigh tight enough to leave marks behind.
The man sneers at the Emperor, drunk and feeling too confident on his winning streak and bleeding the redhead’s pockets dry. He wanted to win something else. You.
“I said you ain't got anything left in the pot, so maybe you should bet your lucky charm.”
You jerk back, taken aback at the way the man leers at you, and turn your nose up at the bastard when he boldly licks his lips and sends you a wink. You aren't expecting Shanks to grab your chin and angle your face to his, his expression mischievous but tinted with that same anger you can still feel shocking your side of the connection.
“What do you think, baby? You want in?”
You lick your lips. A year ago, you would never have agreed to anything like this, but Shanks and his playfulness must have rubbed off on you.
You turn and glare at the man across the table, your smirk matching your soulmate's, “We're all in.”
Benn snickers and rolls his eyes, already knowing that win or lose, Shanks wouldn't be leaving the island without taking this simpleton's life for his slight against you.
The game begins, and the tension in the air rackets up as the cards are dealt out to each patron. You sit up straight and focus back on the cards that lay in front of you, a king of spades and ten of diamonds. 20. A grin curls your lips, and your eyes flick up to meet the man who looks less than enthused about his hand. He hits, and the dealer slides him his last card.
“Fuck.”
From here, you can see that his cards talley up to 23, and panic floods his eyes when he looks up and catches you and Shanks staring him down. He scrambles from his seat, eager to flee before the redhead could even stand. However, he isn't accounting for the first mate to be right there and slams into Benn.
“You've no idea who we are, do you?” Shanks says from where he still lounges in the chair. You relax and sit back against his chest, wanting to see how this plays out.
The man shakes his head, terrified. There is a thick presence in the air, making it hard for him to breathe, let alone think.
“Well. Let me introduce myself. I'm Shanks, and that's Benn Beckmann, my first mate,” he pulls you close and leans around to kiss your cheek, “And this is my soulmate.”
You can feel how much Shanks is enjoying this, and the wicked satisfaction that flows between the two of you makes you grin.
“You tried to take her away from me, and I can't have some nobody think that they can do that.”
You ignore the way that the man begins to beg, pleading and promising to never be seen again. But none of that matters to Shanks. This vermin had disrespected you, and the Emperor wouldn't stand for it. His hand strokes your thigh, smoothing indecency up your leg to grip your inner thigh, thumb pressed against your clothed heat. He kisses the back of your head, voice idle and playful when he speaks up.
“What should we do with him, Seastar?”
You only have to think for half a second, “Feed him to the Seakings.”
Shanks throws his head back and laughs, then tucks his arm under your ass and stands with you. You toss your arms around his neck and hold on for dear life as Shanks stalks through the bar, the other patrons making way for him all the way to the door. Everyone else knew better to make such a scene and almost felt bad for the sleaze ball that Benn shoved forward, his hand wrapped in the guy's shirt to prevent him from running away.
“You heard the lady. Let's go.”
The rest of the crew meets Shanks and his soulmate back in the Red Force. He has you back in his lap, sitting cross-legged on his deck as the two of you watch Lucky Roux tie the man's hands together. They’ve already sailed out of the cove and sit in deep, seaking infested waters. The man is shaking like a leaf, still spilling pleads and begging for mercy.
They go unheard, and you stand to better watch the man stumble to the edge of the ship to the gangplank. You feel Shanks follow after you, joining you in leaning against the railing.
“Give the order, Baby,” He whispers behind you and you shiver at the tone he uses. He sounds like he is enjoying this, and you know he is.
You look at the bastard who had tried to win you in a game of cards, and gesture at the sea.
“Walk the plank.”

[15:47] 'jjun?' you called out. the door shut behind you quietly and you swiftly toed off your shoes and padded into the living room.
the lights in the living room and kitchen were turned off, the dim lights of the aquarium of junhui's pet fish being the only source of light in the dark room. after setting down your groceries in the kitchen, you wandered into the bedroom, where your boyfriend was lying in bed with his eyes (kinda) closed, just like you had suspected.
'jjunie? are you awake?' you called out again, a bit more softly this time. you didn't want to wake him up if he was asleep. jun shifted in his bed before lifting himself up to smile at you weakly.
'hey [nickname]' his voice sounded scratchy and hoarse and his eyes were bloodshot. 'i thought you got off work at 8 today'
you nodded. 'i said i had an emergency and seokmin let me go early'
jun winced as he tried to hitch himself higher up in the bed and you reached over to help. 'you didn't have to.. this isn't an emergency'
'my boyfriend is currently bedridden because he's sick. in my book, this classifies as an emergency' you smiled and pressed a quick kiss to his forehead. his skin was hot under your lips but you chose to ignore it, for now. 'how are you feeling?'
'better than earlier. my headache's almost gone and it doesn't feel like my throat's full of thorns whenever i swallow, but i could be better' jun nodded and motioned towards the empty mug on his nightstand. 'i made some of that honey lemon tea you made me last time, i think it helped'
you sighed. 'that's good. did you take any medicine?'
your boyfriend nodded.
'good. i'll be right back' you pressed a chaste kiss on his lips and before jun can protest and say that you'll also get sick, you had already left the room.
after changing out of your work clothes and putting on one of jun's old practice shirts and sweatpants, you made some more honey lemon tea. you learned from joshua that it was the best remedy for sore throats, so you've been using it religiously whenever you got sick. when you came back, jun had made himself comfortable in bed again, nearly drowning under his duvet.
'hey stranger' you said, setting down the piping hot mug of tea. 'i made you some more tea. i'm gonna go refill your water bottle'
jun watched you silently. he admired the way his shirt hung over your shoulders and how your lips jutted out into a small pout as you concentrated on trying to fix his super older thermometer. he watched the way stray strands of hair covered your forehead and eyes, causing you to squint as you bustled back and forth between the living room and his bedroom.
when jun texted you just an hour ago, telling you that he felt sick and wanted to see you, he didn't think you would drop everything and come to him right away. he meant like, after you got off work, but no, you insisted on coming right away. not that he minded, he liked being with you.
'why are you staring at me like that?' you asked in a teasing voice. jun snapped out of his little trance and gave you a small smile.
'nothing, just wondering what country i saved in my past life to have you in my life' he said in an equally taunting tone. you snorted and jokingly rolled your eyes with a small shake of your head as you replaced his empty tissue box with a new one.
jun watched you climb into his bed and slip under the covers. he shivered when he felt your cool skin lightly graze against his and cuddled up next to you, happy to be in close proximity with you.
he rested his head on your outstretched arm and wrapped his own around your torso and pulled you closer to him. you ran one hand through his hair, playing with the soft strands and the other hand curated a cold compress out of nowhere and pressed it against his hot forehead.
your boyfriend jumped a little at the sudden contact and made a small noise, complaining that it was cold. you apologized with a small laugh before whispering sweet nothings as your hand smoothed out his hair, stroking and caressing the soft tendrils.
jun felt himself drifting in and out of sleep, his eyelids feeling more and more heavy by the second. the warmth of your body and your soft touches combined with your low, quiet voice was lulling him into sleep.
'are you tired, my love?' you asked quietly. you could tell he was falling asleep by how his arms wrapped around you were going limp and his breaths were much more even and slow.
jun mumbled something incoherent and you smiled.
'go to sleep, jjun. i'll be here when i wake up'
'thank.. y.. you.... i mm-hnhlove you. '
you felt the smile on your face grow. 'i love you too, wen junhui.'

Aunt, Uncle, and Finn
Featuring OCs by @ladybugkisses
(this one is kinda long, just so you know!)
Spring. 1938.
Hollywood.
A land of superstars, the rich and famous, beautiful houses and sandy beaches...
all things the Rickaby children wouldn't be seeing.
"Do we HAVE to stay with Uncle Cal, mom?"
"Yes, Toby," Ari answered for what felt like the thousandth time. The 8 year old grumbled in his taxi seat. His sisters, bunched up next to him, were off in their own little worlds - Lucy was reading, and Sophie was staring out the window, in awe of anything other than St. Louis.
The car stopped. The doors opened. The sunlight poured into the cab
and standing there were Aunt Ivy and Uncle Cal.
Aunt Ivy looked stunning in the light as she walked over and hugged dad. She also hugged mom, and patted her back. Uncle Cal looked...droopy. He smiled, but it was weak. And half his tail was missing. He walked, slowly, over to dad, who held him tight, and spoke in a choking voice, "I'm so glad I got to see you again."
Toby knew they weren't really his aunt and uncle - they were something like...cousins?But always, Aunt and Uncle.
"You remember Toby," Mom said, smiling, and ushering Toby towards Ivy. "And Lucy, of course." Lucy waved and smiled politely.
"And you must be Sophie!" Ivy said, kneeling down and picking her up. "Why, I remember when I could hold ya in one hand!"
Mom winced. "Iiiii remember when you did that, too..." She nodded slowly. Ivy scoffed.
"I'm just teasin'."
"How're you, Uncle Calvin?" Lucy asked, rocking back and forth on her feet.
"I'm alright." He said, quietly, carrying a young boy on his shoulders. The boy looked about Sophie's age. He had his mother's fur, and his father's eyes. He was put down by Calvin, and shyly hid behind him.
"Whozat?" Sophie pointed, and walked over.
"Easy, Sophie." Calvin knelt down and smiled. "That's Finn...he's awful shy. He's a good boy, though, eh?" Calvin's voice was quiet, and a bit shaky. Ivy had to help him up.
-
After an hour or so of sitting and catching up, and hearing a lot about tail stuff for some reason, Mom and Dad stood up. "Well, we have to get going," Rocky said, "Gotta go see what the NBC folks want."
"Is Ari gettin' a show too?" Ivy asked. Mom blushed, and shook her head. "No, no...but I help so much with the money, I-" Mom looked at Calvin, and said something. "I don't want to tire him out too much."
"No, yer not tiring!" Ivy looked shocked that mom would even think that. Toby, who'd had to work in a garden under this woman, would disagree with that sentiment, but how would she even be tiring out Calvin?
Must be a grown up thing, Toby thought.
"Ow!" Toby's thoughts suddenly shifted when Sophie stepped on his tail, chasing after a ball. "Careful!" Toby scooped her up, and she giggled and squealed, wriggling in his grip. "You'll pay for that!"
"Nooo!" She yelped, her smile still wide as Toby used all his strength to throw her on the couch. He wasn't a BIG kid - it took a lot out of him! He waved goodbye as mom and dad left, and looked on as Calvin and Ivy glanced at each other.
"It's no crime she doesn't want to see me, Ivy, last time was rough."
"I know, I know. I just...-" The two of them wandered into the kitchen, leaving 4 children alone to their devices.
Lucy had already managed to find something worth reading. She was pouring over some papers at a typewriter, and peering at them. "Wow...this looks like a script!"
"So? That's what Uncle Cal does. He writes scripts."
"But it's a good script!"
"What's it about?"
"Looks like a horror movie. I think." Lucy kept reading, and this time, Toby felt yet another young paw on his tail. He turned around, and saw-
Finn.
Toby went to grab him like he had Sophie, but Finn looked horrified, and jumped on the couch himself, without a word. Toby smiled and laughed. "Gee, guy, I wasn't gonna hurt ya! It's fun!" He said. Sophie, still on the couch, nodded in response. Finn just stared at the two of them, and curled his knees to his chest.
Then, they heard a voice. "Kids! I need to go into town - who's coming with me?"
-
All four of the children BOLTED outside. They knew enough to know that Ivy McMurray was a famous movie actress, so whatever she had to do in town MUST be something exciting. Ivy laughed, and giggled. "No one to stay with Uncle Freckle, huh?"
"I'll be alright."
"Yeah!" Toby said. "He's grown, he can handle himself, let's do something fun!"
Ivy looked over at Calvin, and walked over to him, kissing him softly. "I love you, dearie. Anything happens, let me know, okay?"
"Aye, dear."
"You can handle being on your own?"
Calvin laughed. "The surgery wasn't that bad this time, I'm fine." Calvin kissed her, which drew a 'yech!' from all of the kids, even Finn.
With that, Ivy walked out.
"Where're we going?" Toby asked, sitting in the front seat. He was the oldest, after all.
"Studio lot." Ivy said. "I need to pick up some papers from my dire-"
"The LOT!?" Toby looked amazed. "Where they make the movies!?"
Ivy ruffled his head fur a little. "Where else?" Ivy began to drive down the hill. Lucy, in the back, sat between Sophie and Finn. "Aunt Ivy?" She asked, "Why were you so concerned about Uncle Calvin?"
Ivy paused for a moment. "...your Uncle just had a very...delicate operation." She said. "It affects how he walks a little bit. But he'll-" She hesitated, "He'll be alright."
"Where's his tail?" Sophie asked.
"...it, uhm..." Ivy hesitated some more. Toby swore he thought he saw a tear forming behind her sunglasses. "It...had to be taken off."
"Does it grow back?": Sophie asked.
"Tails don't grow back." Lucy said.
"They do on lizards!" Sophie said, sticking her tongue out at Lucy. Lucy crossed her arms.
"And is Uncle Calvin a lizard?"
"He could be under those big ears!"
Ivy stifled a laugh. "That's-...snrk...that's no way to talk about your..pff...your Uncle!"
-
One thing they don't tell you about film studio lots - it's a bit more boring than one would expect. Ivy had instructed them to wait in the lobby while she got something, and then they would go to another building, and at some point ice cream would be involved. Lucy seemed happy to wait, humming softly and looking at all the posters on the wall. Sophie and Finn were busy learning to communicate without much talking. And Toby?
Toby was bored. Out. Of. His. Wits.
He paced around the lobby, and looked around for something, anything, to do. He walked up to the receptionist. "Hey, is anything exciting going on today?"
"...not that I'm aware of." She said, eyes deep in a magazine. Toby walked off glumly, back to the benches where they were sitting -
Right up to Finn. Who was in his spot
"Finn, I'm sure you're great but you're in my spot. Can you move please?"
Finn just...stared at him.
"May you please move?"
"..."
"Sophie, can you tell him to move?"
"...uhm..." Sophie blinked. "Move?"
Nothing.
"Thanks, Soph'. Doing the lord's work here." Toby said, sarcastically.
"Be nice to Finn," Lucy said, "his dad's dying."
"What? No he's not, Aunt Ivy said he was gonna be fine!"
"They had to cut part of his tail off!"
"So?"
"Remember when they thought they were gonna have to do that to Mom and Dad was sobbing for 2 days straight?"
"...well...I guess-"
"Alright, kids," Ivy walked out, with a few papers, "just a fitting and we're done. Sorry I took s'long!"
-
Finn seemed popular with the people here - he got lollipops. He got pats on his head. He even got to stand with Buster Crabbe. Buster Crabbe! FLASH GORDON, Toby's IDOL, and FINN got to just wave to him!
Before you ask, Toby DID get an autograph - but still, Toby couldn't help but feel jealous when Buster told Finn 'Say hi to yer dad for me'.
And now, they were sitting in another waiting room, while Ivy could be heard from behind a curtain. Lucy, again, found something to do very quickly - and Sophie joined her as she explained how sewing machines work (to the best of her 7 year old ability, of course).
This left Toby, a loud, boisterous young lad, and Finn, a guy who Toby hadn't heard talk once the whole time.
"...so..." Toby looked over. "You, uhm...you like books?"
Finn shrugged.
"...you like movies?"
Finn nodded.
"What's yer favorite?"
Finn thought for a moment, and then, pulled a scary face, holding his hands over his head.
"Dracula?"
Finn nodded.
"Lucky - my parents don't let me watch that stuff."
"Last I checked, they did, and you chickened out!" Lucy said.
"Hey! I don't air YOUR secrets do I!?" Finn giggled a little when that happened.
"So. Finn. Level with me...why don't you talk much?" Finn thought for a moment - thinking through how to explain it. He looked down at his feet, then back up at Toby. He shrugged.
"You don't know?"
Finn nodded.
"CAN you talk?" Finn nodded in response again, and move to open his mouth, until-
"Ah!"
"Oh, sorry, Mrs. McMurray, i didn't pin you too hard did I?"
"No, no - be careful, though!" Ivy's laugh came through - it was bright. Finn's eyes softened at it a bit - he had been stiff a few moments before, but now, he looked more relaxed.
"Alright, kids, all finished - who's in for ice cream?"
"ALL OF US!"
"Don't shout! Girls have to be careful back there!"
-
The five of them sat outside of an ice cream stand - Ivy was careful to hide herself, wearing a head scarf and a pair of shades - and the 4 children diligently went about eating ice cream.
And, of course, Finn was doing something odd.
Sure, he was eating his ice cream normally. He was sitting normally. He just wasn't...talking. or saying ANYthing. He stared at something across the street - a little bird, pecking at the ground. Sophie looked for a moment, before going back to her ice cream.
"...Aunt Ivy?"
"Yes, Toby?"
"Why is Finn so quiet?"
"He gets it from his father." Ivy said, nodding. "He's definitely his father's child." Toby blinked.
"...Does he ever say anything?"
"He only speaks to his best friends. I'm sure he'll be talking to Sophie by the evening!" Sophie was circling around Finn, and trying hard to play one handed rock paper scissors while she viciously attacked her cone.
"Sorry today wasn't as exciting as I thought - I figured we'd get to go on set today."
"We're gonna go on set!?" Lucy asked, a bright hope in her eye.
"Absolutely - but you have to be very careful on a movie set." Ivy said. "It's dangerous!"
"I can be careful! I dunno about Sophie though..." Sophie was trying to climb a fence. "Soph! Get down from there!"
"Okay!" She bounded down, and hit the ground hard. She simply looked down at herself, brushed her dress off, and ran back over.
Finn walked over to his mother, and looked up. He tugged her dress a little, and spoke softly, for the first time anyone had heard. all day.
"...dad?"
"...oh! Goodness - we ought to run back home and check on him, make sure he's alright." With that, the gang piled into the car, and got home.
-
Dinner had gone just fine. Mom and dad had come home from that awfully long set of meetings, and they looked...happy. Food was good, on account of Uncle Cal, and now the kids were getting ready to go to sleep. They were all crowded into the spare room. Uncle Cal walked in, and smiled.
"Night, all."
"Can you sing us a song?"
"Hmm?"
"Yeah! Mama always sings us songs in port...porter...porterhouse-"
"Portuguese?" Calvin finished the word for Sophie.
"Yeah!"
"I don't speak any Portuguese..." Calvin said. "I speak Irish, though."
"Is that why you talk funny?" Lucy asked.
Calvin chuckled. "Aye, that'd do it, I think." He said. "I used to sing an awful lot better before all this tail business."
"Yeah, what's with yer tail?" Toby finally asked. Finn, at the mention of it, leapt out of the bed, and into his dad's arms, and whispered something to him.
"My tail is sick, and it's making me sick. We hope it'll stop, but we'll see." He nodded, and kissed Finn's forehead, letting him back down. "Now, lullaby, right?"
"Please?" Lucy asked.
Without missing much time, Calvin started singing in a language they didn't understand. "Dún do Shúil, a rún mo chroí, A chuid den tsaol, 's a ghrá liom..."
As he sang, Finn nestled into his bed, and went to sleep. Sophie followed suit. Lucy was next...Toby was still a little awake. He yawned, and spoke.
"Lucy says you're gonna die...is that true?"
"We all do, someday." Calvin said.
"But soon?"
"...It'll all be good memories." He said, smiling. "Sleep well, Tobias."
"Goodnight."

btw speaking of periods. here's a couple tips if nobody's told you — and these r just my personal experience of what worked for me, so take with a grain of salt! also just to say it from the jump i hope at least some of this could help a trans woman experiencing periods <3
Caffeine can help with cramps & (some) headaches. Even if it doesn't help you feel more awake or affect you in the typical way for whatever reason, it still helps with the cramps! If you don't like caffeinated beverages, midol or excedrin are both painkiller brands (acetimenophen i believe in both) that have caffeine in the pills as well, so you can take those to help without having to drink coffee or tea etc.
Heating pads or an electric blanket will change your life, but they can be expensive. You can make your own microwaveable heating pad with thick fabric and dried beans for much cheaper, just look up a diy guide to make sure you don't blow up your kitchen in a beancident (tone tag: silly!! very unlikely you can explode your kitchen, but you should still handle it carefully and not microwave it too long). If you don't want to or can't buy a heating pad/hot water bottle/make a heat plush, you can buy those little handwarmer bags at convenience stores (especially in the colder months). They're air activated and not all too expensive and last a while. I would take two or three and put them in a pillowcase and fold it up so i could lay it on my stomach like a heating pad without it directly touching my skin - since that can burn you.
Even if you don't experience bleeding, i would still recommend drinking a lot of water especially if you're like me and can barely get through a 16oz water bottle over two days (i'm working on it shh). It just is really good for you & again, can help with cramps, headaches, fatigue, and tbh even emotional symptoms.
You may not feel like eating anything when ur on ur period and i get it, i really do, but u gotta eat still bc it will make it all so much worse if you're on ur period AND hangry. that said, if you have any food sensitivities i would take extra care to avoid them during ur period bc you don't need to feel bloated and sick from your period And from eating lunch. it's horrid & i would sometimes end up playing myself like this right before a 6-8 hour shift on my feet and talking the whole day (i'm a teacher so i also would have to be explaining things and yknow, teaching without collapsing face first bc stomach ache).
As far as food goes, here's what worked for me: eating the same amount of food i normally do, but instead of 3 big meals and a snack or two (eating every 4 hours or so) i'd take my food amount and spread it out to turn it into a kind of constant nibbling the whole day (so finishing eating something every hour or two). i have stomach issues as-is so this helped prevent nausea and bloating, and also helped my energy stay consistent especially if i mixed it with drinking a lot of water and juice. personally it might be worth it to avoid super heavy/dense foods and invest in easy to make and simpler foods. like, protein bars, fruit strips, fresh fruit (apple slices and peanut butter <3) and veggies (carrots glazed in honey or roasted brussel sprouts are more delicious and easier to make than you think!). also, as much as you can, listen to what your body wants to eat. if ur craving chocolate, eat that. bc it's better to eat and feel good abt what you're eating than either not eating or feeling worse than you already do by forcing urself to eat stuff you don't want.
Last thing about food sorry it's just that eating is so important: If you have a good idea of when you get your period or when the worst symptoms are, try meal prepping the week before. nothing huge and complicated. you can straight up just make like six PB&Js and keep em in the fridge. if you have the energy to cook something you can have as leftovers, awesome! (one of my go to meals was boiling frozen pork & leek dumplings in chicken broth i made from store bought concentrate. took like 15 mins and i could sit by the warm stove and just watch it cook and then pour it in a thermos and then go lay face down somewhere. and it had salt, protein, carbs, veggie, just a great meal. and it being hot helped with cramps plus it was super light on my stomach!!)
Hate to say it but exercise helped so much with making periods manageable. If you can, try taking a 15 min walk each day. at the very least do some stretches within ur ability and comfort to help with general joint pain and keeping your body from feeling "creaky".
I love u please take care of yourself 🤍

Faceless Fixation {Sal Fisher}: Strawberry Lipgloss [8]
"Okay," I tell dad through my sleepy eyes and groggy voice. "I have to make this believable." Dad nods ferociously, eyebrows drawn together curiously.
"So, excuse me for a moment," I say, holding up a finger and clearing my throat. Then, I scream a good, long, loud, unnecessary scream.
Dad flinches and I can't help but smile when he glares at me, clicking his tongue and undoubtedly disapproving of my unsavory tactics.
I finish my scream and cough a bit. That should be enough, seeing as I've managed to kickstart a scratchy throat.
I fish my phone out of my carry on bag and dial my boss's number. He ends up scowling at my excuse, but I think my coughing and hoarse voice passed his bullshit test. I promised him I'd be heading to the doctor while taking my day off.
My bags were packed and ready to go right before I headed to bed last night. I only left out a change of clothes and my toothbrush and toothpaste for the morning before packing them too.
I packed my mask as well. I wouldn't be meeting The Faces without it, after all.
A nervous smile pulls at my lips as I think of the intricate purple mask hiding safely in my luggage. I'll be putting it to good use for the first time ever tonight and the reminder sends a rejuvenating pulse through my body.
I'm going to be boarding my flight in about two hours and I'm so excited that I physically and mentally cannot stay still. I'm fantasizing about our meeting, wondering how it'll go.
Larry would probably notice me first and know that I was there. He would jump around like a lunatic and hug me, then try to pick me up with his little lanky self. I'm genuinely looking forward to finally being able to see his long, luscious hair that he's been growing since he was a teenager.
I haven't seen a photo of Larry since he was eighteen-- he's nearly twenty three now, so I'm sure his hair is incredibly long. He better not have cut it.
Sal will, hopefully, not associate me with a certain Lexi. But would he be kind to me? Would he recognize my voice?
I don't know what to expect of Todd, seeing as he's such a formal guy, but I know Ash is going to know me just by stance alone.
I can't wait to embrace my best friend, feel her warmth and the rush of emotions that'll come with finally being reunited.
I carry these thoughts with me as I tell my dad goodbye, giving him a tight hug and promising to stay safe. I ponder a bit more as I pass through security. I giggle and smile to myself while waiting outside my gate, and I pull out my phone to text Ash just because I can't keep all this excitement to myself as I settle into my seat towards the back of the plane.
All this excitement made the time pass ridiculously fast.
My veins are filled with never-ending adrenaline. My sleep-deprived brain is running on straight expectations and hope. My heart is pumping out optimism and begging for a break, but my mind doesn't let up. We're going to hold onto these positive emotions until we have to go home.
Me hiya ashy!! how's vegas? :P
Ashers <3 Hi baby!!!! Vegas is awesome so far. We're up at the crack ass of dawn (Larry and Sal hate it but Todd and I are troopers) for a meeting with some other popular streamers out here. I think it's some kind of breakfast meet and greet thing??? Idk. But how are you!!
Me well, not suffering like you guys lmao. just getting ready for an 8 o'clock shift. the usual.
Ashers <3 Yuck :( make sure you punch your boss for me. He's the whole reason I won't be seeing you!!!
Me no issue there. i've been waiting to lay a good one on him for ages. you're just giving me a good excuse to actually go through with it :3
Ashers <3 That is my job as your bad influence ;)
Me prayer hands to that, babe. wouldn't be where i am today without miss ash's guidance <333
Yes, I know, I should just tell Ash that I'm literally about to take off on a flight headed straight to Las Vegas, but the prospect of surprising her-- seeing the elation and shock on her face-- I can't pass that up. This'll be worth it.
"Would you like something to drink before we take off, ma'am?"
My head flies up and I meet a flight attendant's smiling gaze. Her lips are a fiery red, her hair meticulously and beautifully fixed into blonde waves flowing down her back.
I gape at her beauty for a moment before smiling politely. "Um, would you happen to have coffee? Or tea?" I ask after a moment, wincing at my own awkward question. I just really need some kind of caffeine.
"We have both!" she chirps, her sweet voice reminding me of Ash's. I can't help but smile wider at the connection. "Which would you prefer?"
"Coffee, if possible," I say, squeezing my phone a little tighter in my hands.
"Great! Creamer and sugar as well?"
"Yes, ma'am. Thank you!" I tell her, to which she nods then walks over to the seat in front of me to ask the people ahead the same thing.
I glance down at my phone again just as our pilot announces that we'll be taking off within a few moments. That means I won't be able to talk to Ash for a bit.
Ashers <3 Aww, you're too sweet, my little love. I'll always be here to catch you when you fall :D
Me i would hope so!! i have to go though, so i'll text you in a bit when i get a break, kay?
Ashers <3 Sure thing, sweetness! Se latrevo <3333
Me ermmmmm i love you too??? if that's what that means?
Ashers <3 It's Greek for "I adore you!!!"
Me cute <333 se latrevo too (LMAO)
I close my phone with a smile as the wheels of the plane start moving, only gaining speed as we practically fly down the runway. Exhilaration takes over my entire body as I look away from the woman beside me and stare at the fast moving objects outside of the little window.
The plane lifts from the ground and my stomach practically jumps in my body, all my limbs tensing up as I cling to the tray in front of me. That's it, I'm officially unable to go back on my last-minute plans.
It feels a bit refreshing knowing that I have no other option now. For the longest time (all night and all morning), I didn't think I'd actually be able to do it, but here I am. And I'm so proud of myself for this.
With my head held high as my coffee gets placed down beside me, I look around the inside of the airplane, glancing away from people who suddenly meet my gaze. I'm not embarrassed though, I'm on top of the world right now. There isn't a single thing that could turn my mindset around.
I'm going to finally fucking see my friends!
My eyes travel along the various rows of seats that I can physically see (which isn't all that much) and I'm momentarily blessed by the sight of a little fur baby passing by my row.
I perk up a bit more instantly, smiling as the woman sitting beside me spews out an audible, "Oh my goodness! Look at that baby!"
I watch the exchange between the woman and pet owner, noting the yellow lab who sits right on top of its owners feet, tongue hanging out of its mouth like it doesn't have a care in the world. The little vest around it's body catches my eye and I find myself respecting the lady beside me for not reaching out to pet the sweet baby. It's a medical service dog.
"What's their name?" The woman beside me asks, smiling down at the dog who pants heavily.
"Her name is Yeager," The owner says proudly, giving their dog a little head pat. "She's a cardiac alert dog, so thank you for letting her do her job."
"Oh, no need, honey!" The woman says politely before smiling at little (well, rather large actually) Yeager again. "What a hard-working little thing! She's such a good girl."
Watching the exchange suddenly turns into a horror movie for me, actually, it's a bit more like a nightmare in which I can't wake from. You know, when you're being chased but you physically can't move. That's exactly how I feel-- the freeing feeling of taking flight is replaced by the very obvious realization that I can no longer escape the personal hell that I've stuck myself in.
Fuck. Oh no.
I've really made a terrible mistake. Why couldn't my father have let me cry for a few days?
Is there any possible way for me to get off this plane? I don't care if I lose my life. It's better than landing in Vegas within the next hour.
We're already over three thousand and something feet in the air and probably traveling over a hundred mph, but maybe I can just... you know... pop open the emergency hatch and launch myself out of it. At least everyone would be able to talk about how I went sky-diving at my funeral.
The woman and the owner of Yeager continue to chat for a bit while I try to contain my flaming cheeks and wide eyes, pushing down the memory that holds me in a vice grip-- it's like I'm bound in chains, forced to listen to everything all over again.
How could I have forgotten? And worse, why did this woman calling a dog a good girl resurface the fucking memory? I'm losing it. It's official.
I was so preoccupied with not being able to go to Las Vegas that I forgot why I really shouldn't fucking go. And now it's too late.
I completely ignored the lingering memory of one of the most exhilarating nights of my life.
Yea, I'm an idiot. An unremarkable one, mind you, who was, again, reminded of Sal and I's salacious act simply because a woman uttered the words "good" and "girl" to a dog. The dog isn't my issue because she is, in fact, a good girl. I'm just shocked that I've traveled this low on the pyramid of idiocy and lunacy.
Sigmund Freud really would have loved me.
I finally decide to just duck my head down and let it rest on my tray, nearly knocking over my fresh, scalding hot coffee. My eyes are still wide as I cross my arms around my head, my cheeks still burning with the rage of 25,000 babies being denied titties. I mean, what better way to explain how betrayed I feel? And not to mention, I'm the damn betrayer. I've betrayed myself. Larry would be proud of that statement, at least.
Sally and I haven't talked about what happened-- nor do I want to talk about what happened (it's unavoidable). We haven't even spoken since he left me hanging like a little bitch when Larry jumped into the voice chat and scared the orgasm out of me.
Somewhere, somehow, my unconscious brain decided it would be a fantastic idea to have the conversation with Sally in person. Now, I'm forced to do just that. Fucking hell.
I gulp down my overwhelming feelings. There's no going back now, unfortunately. I'll just have to devise a plan that keeps Sally Face's mouth shut until we're alone (which I pray never happens) or until I'm back home, safe and sound.
Actually, this might be good for me. Sally, despite his shitty vendetta against me, is actually pretty shy and quiet in person. I doubt he'd be brave enough to say anything out loud, so maybe this will prolong the time I have before having to talk to him about our weird phone sex thing that happened the other night.
I mentally pat myself on the back. Maybe I'm not all that dumb. I, miraculously, have some kind of intellectual influence deep down for me to be this smart about avoiding an unwanted talk with my enemy. Perfect.
Doesn't change the fact that Sally is dangerously hot though, by the way.
Either way, I have to look Sally in the eye later knowing that I heard him beating the crap out of his dick to the thought of me. I'll never forget it, and part of me doesn't want to. It was really good.
And I'll also have to look him in the eye knowing that I completely submitted to him and tried to defy him in the end. And he'll know that too.
The thought makes me shiver and I feel like I might vomit for a moment. Whether I have to talk to Sally or not about what we did, I absolutely have to be near him tonight even if I don't want to. I can't escape his presence any longer.
If I think about my future dilemmas any more, I actually will jump out of this plane and risk everyone else inside of it the second I open this emergency hatch. Which, by the way, said emergency hatch is perfectly placed beside me like it was planned out beforehand that I'd sit in a place where I could make a quick getaway. That's it, death by sky-diving is my destiny.
Fuck this-- not like I can actually go back to twenty minutes ago and step off this plane. My fate is sealed and so is my fucking seat belt.
I huff out a quiet, pitiful sigh and close my eyes, wiggling in my seat to get into a better position. My coffee will go cold, but it's better than stressing over the near future knowing I had no time to prepare. Not to mention, any announcement from the pilot would probably stress me out and make me think I'll die. So a nap will do better than my anxiety will for the next hour.
And my nap turns out to be atrocious. I'm trapped in a cage, Sal's tattooed arms chaining me in. It's almost morbid-- especially since I still took the time to trace every inch of what I could remember about the intricate designs on his skin. I am a mess even when asleep and the messy part of my brain follows me into the waking world when a gentle shake startles me from my stupid ass dream.
I throw my head up, eyes wide as I turn to the woman beside me. She has a gentle smile on her lightly worn features, a couple grey hairs peaking through the dark strands that hang over her shoulder. She has a bag in her hand as she stands and people rush past her.
We've landed.
I take a deep, sleepy breath and smile at the woman. "Thank you," I mumble the raspy words, stretching quickly before standing up. "Didn't realize I slept so long."
"That's alright, sweetie," the woman says comfortingly. At least she's nice-- though, I'd gathered that much from the way she spoke to Yeager earlier. "Just wanted to make sure you got off the flight." She gives me a little nod then turns, walking off of the plane.
I deflate in my seat and watch a wave of jet-lagged people pass through the aisle in front of me, waiting for the crowd to clear up before I start gathering my things. I'm in no rush now, remembering that I'll be seeing Sally Face come nightfall.
But I'll also be seeing Ash, Larry, and Todd...
I lift myself from my seat with a grunt and push past a few people to quickly grab my bag from the compartment above my row of seats.
After getting off the plane, waiting for my second bag isn't too rough. It takes a good ten minutes for it to finally pop up on a conveyer belt, but I take off to a Starbucks next to the bag pick-up area to grab breakfast, which consists of a bagel, a cake pop, and a peppermint mocha frappuccino because it's my favorite bitch coffee ever.
I travel through the airport, one bag on my shoulder (which holds my breakfast) as I drag my suitcase behind me and glance around with my green straw in my mouth, constantly sipping on my cold coffee that is ten times better than whatever I ordered on the plane, clearly, since I ended up throwing it away anyway.
People whiz past me, disappearing up escalators or squeezing through packed doorways. I don't wish to be anywhere near it, I mean, who would? That's an anxious nightmare, but I know I'll have to subject myself to that torture eventually. I might as well just get it over with now so I can hail a taxi and get to my hotel. Then, I can hide for the rest of the day until tonight.
I push past a few people as I make my way to the doors leading out of the airport. I wish I could get a good look at my surroundings because the airport is ginormous, but I'm too focused on getting out of dodge. I have so many things I want to look forward to and want to avoid all at the same time, but I can't do that until I finally have time to relax in my hotel room.
I manage to panic enough to the point where I disregard anyone ahead of me in line and just grab a taxi toward the back, more than ready to get to my hotel and crash for the next few hours. I don't even want to think about how excited I am to see Larry, Ash, and Todd because the fear of seeing Sally just completely ruins it.
So I get dropped off at a plain Hilton a couple blocks away from the strip at about twelve in the afternoon, check into my room, and drag the remainder of my dignity as well as my heavy bags up a few stories before finally just crashing onto my bed.
I want to cry because I'm starting to wonder if this was a bad idea, but I am in Las Vegas. Dad paid for me to come visit my friends, so I have to do it. I'm sure it'll work out anyway. I doubt it'll turn out too bad, my head is just messing with me like it always does.
But right now, things just suck. The only good thing about my trip at this exact moment is that my bed is insanely comfortable. That's a pretty awesome outcome seeing as I just want to sleep to ignore all of my worries.
My day seems to fly by as though it's been sped up. My plane ride was made quick due to me being so much of a mess, and now my day is gone since I somehow wake up at about six in the evening.
I'm too distressed to put an actual meal in my stomach, so my dinner consists of complimentary cookies that got dropped onto my tray in the airplane. I can't stomach anything more than that. And for the rest of the time, I watch a few reruns of The Office, tucked into the sheets of my bed with the comforter pulled up to my chin.
At some point, I lift my phone that's been laying face down on my bed to see a missed call from Ash, a few texts in the Discord chat, and then I notice that it's fucking 8:30 pm.
On a normal day, I'd use my lateness as an excuse to just not go altogether, but I didn't waste dad's money and I didn't come all the way here to not see my friends.
I can call, well, talk to Ash later. She'll be seeing me soon anyway.
So, I jump out of bed with a frustrated curse slipping past my lips and run into the bathroom beside my bed. It's a small room, not like I need anything big. I'm just one person.
I'll have to be... fashionably late, I suppose. No issues there. I'm sure many people are going to show up late. It's not like it'll end thirty minutes after it begins, right?
I take a quick shower, blow dry my hair, and put on some eyeliner and mascara. I'm not trying to make a statement. If anything, I'm trying to fly under the radar. Hopefully the little bit of makeup conceals me from being recognized. The last thing I want is for Larry or Todd to recognize me as y/n.
After my face and hair are done, I throw on fishnets and tuck a Fall Out Boy shirt into a black skirt that rests on my hips, then I throw on my worn black and white, hightop vans.
It's nothing special. My boi Kieran said to wear whatever, so I am. At least the fishnets add a little fun to the look.
My last little addition is the mask I bought just a few days ago. It feels as though it weighs hundreds of pounds in my two small hands. But not in a bad way-- I just cherish it so much that the weight of its unspoken value almost seems to double as I simply gaze upon it.
With a breath, I situate it onto my face, tucking the straps under my hair.
I pack a few bills into the back of my phone case and check my bank account, making sure I have a bit of money there too in case I need it. Then I finally run out of my room and out of the hotel in general, hailing a taxi who takes me through the city, adding another thirty minutes to my trip because of traffic.
Despite my poor punctuality, I can't help but feel mesmerized by all the tall, lit up buildings swarmed with people. And once the MGM Grand comes into view, I feel nervous with all the people hanging around the entrance like a pond of alligators waiting to feast upon my bones. It's a scary feeling, but hopefully I can squeeze past everyone and find where I need to go.
My taxi stops in the middle of people, right in front of the door. It's worst case scenario-- I have to step out in the middle of a raving crowd. I don't want that, but what else can I do?
I scramble out of the car, swinging around in a panic when the taxi screeches off behind me. I stare at the spot that repopulates with people instantly, all chatting and looking up at the giant, towering building in front of us.
It's hypnotizing, beautiful. I feel dizzy just by staring up at the roof that covers the driveway before I look over to the doors that almost seem to glow. But unfortunately, the moment doesn't last long because I can't see much through the ridiculous amount of bodies in my way.
Las Vegas sucks while I have my feet on the ground. There are way too many people which makes the views hard to enjoy, especially as I find myself fighting through everyone in my way who just wants casino's.
I eventually stagger through the doorway, trying to hold myself back from running over to a desk with a few workers hanging around. Damn, I really want to go back to my hotel. I've had enough of being around people today.
My stomach feels queazy and my limbs tremble a bit as I take quick steps, my presence easily gaining the attention of a lady working behind the counter.
She smiles politely at me, but a curious, almost wary look crosses her gaze as she watches me walk up. She's probably confused by the mask, but I don't have the time or the desire to explain why I'm wearing it.
"Um, hi," I murmur, smiling carefully. "I'm trying to, uh, get to the roof. For the party." The words are almost too quiet, so I force myself to speak louder despite the tremor tainting my voice.
"Oh," the woman says sweetly, still eyeing me carefully. "I need to see your invite, then." She's kind, but something about her forced expression tells me she fucking hates her job.
I pull my phone from the waistband of my skirt and open up my email to get to the invite before passing the device to her. I watch as her eyes scan over my phone and she purses her lips before handing it back to me.
She looks down, grabbing a clipboard. "Name?" she asks.
Yikes. I mean, it wouldn't be my actual name right? Kieran doesn't know me-- he only knows Vi.
"Um, VioletViolence," I whisper, cracking my knuckles and trying to keep my feet still. I don't need to scuff up this nice floor.
The woman's eyes narrow as she drags her eyes over the paper, flipping it to another sheet before her eyes widen a bit, "Aha!" she exclaims, like she's proud of herself. "Here you are. I'll give you a passcode for the top floor, you have to put it in as soon as you get into the elevator. After that, you're good to go!"
She cheered up a lot. I guess it helped to find out that I'm not some random crazy person.
"Oh, okay. Thanks," I smile cautiously.
Turns out, the passcode to the roof is 1989, just like the Taylor Swift album. That'll be easy to remember.
I punch the code into the elevator nervously, watching as a little green light envelops the button for the roof. Then, I travel slowly upwards for what feels like five full minutes until the doors finally open up to a party that practically smacks me in the face.
I look through the crowd, my heart beating wildly while a mix of electronic and rock music pulses in the air around me. People take up almost every inch of space on this rooftop. At some point, I note the LED lighted (and probably heated) pool crowded with randoms.
My eyes wander every which way in awe. I've never been to Vegas in my life, but the view is so much more than I expected now that I'm able to actually get a good look at it. Everything is exceptionally tall, super modernized and lavish, and lit up with a plethora of colored lights. Actually, I can see The Venetian from here.
I make my way to the edge of the rooftop, squeezing past people to get a good glimpse of the lights, buildings and moving life below me.
This moment feels so surreal. I'm surrounded by people I don't know, just like I have been all damn day, looking for my four-- three-- friends who aren't even expecting me. Right here, in this moment, I'm alone in one of America's busiest and most well-know cities.
I have so many fucking options. Hell, if I really wanted to, I could jump from this roof to the balcony below and get cheered on. Everything-- anything-- goes in Las Vegas.
The area is fun, but the situation is dangerous. I'm feeling risky. It's a stark contrast to how nervous I was moments ago, but seeing all of Las Vegas from up here has brought me back to life in a way.
To my left is a pool side bar, though, which will ultimately help me in the long run. If I want to pursue my risky thoughts that I'm too afraid to act on when sober, then alcohol is a good start.
I push through bodies again, holding onto one half of my mask in fear. I think I'd call it quits on life if I get pushed around so much that it falls off. Genuinely, I'd just pack up and leave.
Out of everything though, that's my only true fear at the moment, even with the lingering reminder that I'll have to find The Faces soon. I have, well, used to have horrible social anxiety, and yet here I am in one of the most social situations I've even laid my eyes on in years.
Here, I actually have to converse with people unlike whenever I was in the airport and getting into this casino/hotel--whatever it is. This right here is something to feel good about.
I'm proud of myself.
I weave past another person and slap a hand onto the bar counter, hanging on for dear life when a few people shove past me and nearly take me with them. Wincing, I make awkward eye contact with the bartender who just stares at me.
Yea, asshole. Could have helped.
"Whatcha got?" The bartender asks, filling up multiple glasses. I know he's busy. There are people in every free spot around the bar. What a fucking party, right?
"Um, can I get a screwdriver, I guess?" I yell to him, trying to make sure he can hear me over the music.
He nods once, grabbing another glass. "$15."
My eyes practically shoot out of my head and I feel like I'll choke on the way I'm being strangled with my pretty much empty bank account. "Is that a joke?" I cough out, watching as he fills the glass up with the equivalent to three shots.
The bartender shoots me a frustrated look that immediately tells me he isn't kidding.
He puts a splash of orange juice into what I would consider straight fucking alcohol then scoots it over to me.
I wince, giving my glass a little twirl in hopes to give myself some clarity and not straight vodka towards the bottom of the glass. Then, I pull a $20 from the back of my phone case and pass it to him. "Keep the change," I murmur, plucking a straw from a styrofoam cup then returning to my task of attempting to find The Faces.
Honestly, finding the group in a sea of people like this is probably impossible. There are just so many bodies and not enough consideration for the poor souls (me) trying to find their way around.
I can just barely make out an unoccupied stage. There's a microphone set up on it and speakers towards the back. It's right on the edge of the large rooftop, so maybe I'll be able to find some space there and catch a breath before I keep looking.
And of course, I could make this easier for myself and just call Ash. I could make this entire search simpler for everyone by letting her know that I have shown up. Who wouldn't do that?
But I'm scared. I love Ash more than anything and she's my best friend, but I also haven't seen her, Larry, or Todd in over ten years. The thought of physically reconnecting after so long worries me. Talking online is easy compared to actually being there, in person, flesh and all, for the thought process of every single question and answer. What if we all are too awkward and don't know how to physically speak to each other?
It's an anxious worry that makes me shiver as I break through the end of the thick crowd.
Suddenly though, I don't have any time left to worry again like I've been doing all day.
I should have known that Sally Face would be as close as he could possibly be to music. Thus, there he is, standing in front of the stage with his back leaned against the edge. And where he goes, the rest of the group goes.
All the air leaves my lungs all at once. My feet are cemented to the ground and my free hand bunches into the fabric of my black skirt.
They stand in a row-- Sally, Ash, Larry, then Todd.
Sally Face is the shortest one in the group. I never would have suspected it just by meeting him once. I mean, he isn't exactly short. I'd say he must be between five foot eight and five foot ten. That's a decent height. But Ash is a head taller than him-- that alone shocks me into stillness. And Larry is even taller than Ash. Then Todd is about Ash's height.
As always, Sally looks delectable. Just looking at him once fills me with memories of his sultry, dirty words and the feeling of his skin beneath my fingertips. What a dangerously frustrating man.
He's wearing a tan, almost sandy colored, Memphis May Fire shirt paired with black jeans and classic vans. The neutral colors clash wildly against the bright, slap-you-in-the-face color of his hair alongside his expressionless prosthetic, but I'm into it. He looks so fucking good and I can see the tattoos on his arms so well.
How I ache to run my hands over every inch of ink covering his skin. To see him flinch beneath my touch again. To read his story depicted in images that stain his body. It's a deep yearning that fills me with a feeling akin to rage-- it's just as euphoric, adrenaline-inducing, and deteriorating as rage is to me.
My eyes rake over him inch by inch, dragging up and down slowly until I've memorized each curve, crevice, freckle, scar, and every other little thing easy to miss regarding his physical body.
I wish I could see more of him. I want nothing more than to peel that prosthetic off of his face and get a look at the beauty he hides so desperately. I just know deep in my soul that he's pretty. There's no way a handsome asshole like him wouldn't have a pretty face.
His electric blue eyes rake across the area in front of him, but he thankfully never looks at me. It gives me an open opportunity to ogle him from afar.
I trail my eyes from his bruised fingertips, all over his ink-stained forearms while I meticulously map out each twist and turn of the veins that lead up to his lightly bulging biceps. Then, I follow the curves of his lightly scarred neck.
Somehow, the in-person image of his pretty throat is better than the photo Larry sent me. That shattered sword tattoo glints under the lights, a result of the thin sheen of sweat on his skin. It brings out the barely noticeable differences in the color of his skin-- his scars. They're lining the underside of his jaw and just a bit on the left side of his neck. I wish I could bite into his skin.
His messy hair and fringe cover the top and sides of his prosthetic, but I'm still able to get a good look at the dips and curves of every inch of it. I'm even able to see the top corner of his prosthetic that's pink instead of white. I wonder why that is.
But even if they aren't real, I can't help but stare at his prosthetic lips. Someday, I'll get to feel his real lips behind the barrier between me and his face.
I try to shake off the simp side of my brain, shocked at my own thoughts. Why am I so eager just over one look at him? Am I that bad off right now? This is an issue.
Sally Face is dangerous.
He has this confident, god-like aura about him that drips with the equivalent to gold-- if there was a color to describe the way he acts, it would be gold. It's in his stance, in his sharp and hypnotizing gaze, in the way he curls his fingers towards himself in a gesture as Ash watches him-- they're likely talking.
Sally face is tantalizing in every aspect of who he is. Personality, looks, vibes. I want my fingers in his cerulean hair so I can ruffle up the soft looking, layered waves. I want to drag my fingertips down the few scars littering his neck. I want to shatter that sword on his throat a little more, see how much deeper he can break. I want his pale skin between my teeth, and I want his gaze on me.
But these are silly thoughts. I can't embrace or act on them. Especially not right now.
I turn my gaze to Ash, the reincarnated Aphrodite dripping in modern eloquence. When imagining the most beautiful woman to walk the earth, I'd think of her over and over again. I feel that anyone else would, too.
Ash's hair has grown since her major cut about a year ago, it's just hanging over her shoulders, brushing her upper back. It's the color of silky chocolate, flowing smoothly and elegantly as though she'd spent hours preparing it. And hell, maybe she did spend a while fixing it up. But the point is that she makes effort look effortless.
The model-like air about her is swathed in a kind-hearted and welcoming feeling that comes just from seeing her do something as simple as smile. Ash is completely one of a kind, an alien in a realm where beauty is misguided and thought to be something else entirely. She's too breathtaking to be walking within ten feet of me. She's too good for this universe she's been sent to.
Ash is wearing a maroon colored dress that hugs her curves in every perfect place possible. There's a slit going up the right side of the dress-- her thigh squeezes against the fabric, more than likely attracting every person's attention within a three-mile radius. She's simply and utterly a sight to behold.
Not like she needs makeup, but even the little bit that she's wearing on her celestially stunning face compliments her dress, her personality, and her overall aura perfectly. Just a little bit of a dark brown shade on her eyelids, accentuating the glowing color of her viridian irises as she, oh shit, makes eye contact with me. But it's only for a moment before she... looks away again?
Anyway, her pearly white teeth are on display when Sally nudges her, pointing off into another direction. Each of her features lifts with the action and makes her look even more otherworldly. She's something else entirely.
I continue dragging my eyes along the entire group, passing my gaze over Larry now who absolutely blows my mind. In fact, I can't quite believe that it's the same scrawny, metal-loving, long-haired, emo teenager I last saw a photo of just two years ago.
Larry is ripped in every meaning and centimeter of the word. He used to be an awkward, lanky guy-- but now, his biceps seem like they're hardly able to fit into his plain black t-shirt, even his chest is squeezing against the fabric. Veins protrude over the inside of his forearms-- a tidbit I notice when he gestures over to Ash to mention something.
Small tattoos litter various areas of his tanned arms, little crosses or x's, I even see a My Chemical Romance and Sanity's Fall tattoo on him. The ink is a beautiful complement to his honey-colored skin. He's incredibly handsome, I'll give him that. Even in just a plain shirt, black jeans, and red converse-- he's killing the look and making it something unique to him. Actually, I'll bet he wore that shirt because it looks best on him.
I trail my eyes up his sculpted neck and to his striking, chiseled face that seems to have matured quite a bit in the past couple years. His eyes are a mesmerizing and dominant shape that beautifully accompanies his dark brown eyes that seem to mimic the shade of black coffee with just a splash of creamer. His angular cheekbones and jawline make him seem like a fully functioning Roman sculpture come to life. And more than anything, I'm so excited to see that the cute gap between his front teeth is still present when he flashes a hypnotizing smile to his left while running a tattooed hand through his hair.
Larry's septum is pierced, a new addition to his look that I didn't hear of. While a minimal difference, it gives him a boost in the 'attractive guy' department. He looks so different, but so familiar. All in all, he looks just as lickable as Sal does, only he's one of my best friends and I absolutely refuse to pursue anything that could break the bond I have with him.
I finally turn to Todd, a fleshed out man who's incredibly elegant in his own right. He's drool-worthy in a contrasting way compared to the rest of the group-- he's the embodiment of an academia professor and he's absolutely killing the look.
Todd's face is cherubic, angelic even but still handsome in a way that seems to make him shine in the dark of the night. The curves of his face are visible, but not sharp and cut-throat like Larry's features are, for example. Little light freckles paint the bridge of his nose and the apples of his cheeks, bringing out the inebriating color of his nearly colorless, inky eyes. Thin lips and a light brush of facial hair on his chin really brings his pretty features together to make him look even more attractive, especially under the moonlight and LEDs.
His curly, red hair is styled in a side part, a singular curl hanging over his forehead in a way that fills me with an urge to push the hair into place with the rest. And perhaps he styled his hair like that on purpose, to make everyone yearn to touch him.
He's dressed in black trousers that are perfectly ironed, a white, button-up dress shirt, and a dark grey blazer that could almost be considered some type of trench coat if not for the style. Then, a pair of shiny black dress shoes.
Todd pulls off the look wonderfully, and never in my life did I imagine I would ever see him sporting dark colors, but the neutral and darker shades look amazing on him. Compared to the monotonous, bright-colored boy I knew as a child, Todd has matured into what he was always meant to be. And fuck, Neil is a lucky guy.
All of my friends are so hot that they are too hot for me. How could I possibly walk up to the equivalent to famous paintings and sculptures? I mean, they're so perfect that I feel as though I need to do a double-take because I can't wrap my head around the fact that they're real. How can anyone be so absolutely gorgeous? Not to mention, four of them standing side-by-side in the same exact place at the same time. And the slim chances that they all became best friends just tops it off and I feel burning jealousy over the thought of it.
I'm not jealous over their friendship or their looks, just that they seem so happy. Joy and true contentment is a feeling I've chased all my life, but never quite gotten close enough to grasp. To know that my full potential with happiness is out of reach, but they're bathing in the feeling... it makes me feel even farther from getting to embrace positivity.
But maybe this is a sign. Maybe they are my opportunity to drown in the throes of joy. Maybe they're meant to be my happiness-- my contentment personified, depicted in the form of actual physical, human beings.
Could be. I've never looked for parts of myself in others because I've always felt that my own emotions are something I have to achieve on my own.
Maybe I've been looking at everything all wrong. Maybe... maybe my morals are outlandish and out of place to the point that I've been depriving myself of real chances to feel something.
I know this-- I literally see an open opportunity to pursue one of my biggest dreams right in front of me, and yet I'm still unable to move my feet. I can't make myself finally meet what I've always wanted.
I can't even tell my friends hello.
This is pissing me off. Why can't I fucking move? I flew out last minute and have spent hours waiting alone to surprise my friends, but I'm too cowardly to actually spend time with them? Absolutely pathetic. I'm disappointed in myself and I'm tired of feeling that way.
I pat a hand around the top of my drink until I grab onto my straw. I pull it into my mouth and gulp down liquid fire as I let my eyes continue wandering over The Faces repeatedly. Yea, I probably look like a creep but I won't be able to walk up to them unless I have something to boost my confidence. As far as I'm concerned, alcohol is the only confidence I have. And if I look away from the group, I could lose them. I don't want to trek through this minefield to find them again.
It takes me a moment to trick myself into thinking that the alcohol will take effect immediately, but my legs finally move. I feel like I'm floating-- and way too fast at that-- as I grow closer and closer to the group, looking to Ash like a lifeline.
Out of everyone here, I'm closest with her and I'm begging, praying with just my eyes that she looks over and recognizes me and helps me grow accustomed to finally being around again.
More importantly, I hope no one is awkward with me. I think I'll just turn around and catch a plane back home if shit flops.
I get close enough to the point that Ash turns to me with a mix of curiosity and concern dancing in her eyes. I feel self-conscious beneath her gaze, but the look in her eyes slowly turns into something interesting and I find myself shrinking a bit as I stop my pursuit just two feet away from her.
My vans scuff the ground when I stop and I tilt my head up to look into her enthralling green eyes. My heart pounds wildly against my ribcage and my palms grow clammy all the while Ash simply grins down at me. Her irises twinkle, an intrigued look passing through her gaze.
"Hi," her soft, melodic voice purrs. "Nice to meet you."
Oh.
I'm thrown off by the fact that she can't recognize me, but when the mask is taken into account as well as the fact that she hasn't seen a photo of me since I was sixteen, it's understandable.
Not only that, I'm preoccupied on the thought that it seems she may be trying to flirt with me.
"Hi," I greet back, fighting off any possible signs of nervousness. I'll murder my anxiety if I can't play off my fear right now. One thing's for sure though, I don't have to worry about any awkwardness. "We've met before," I add in, giggling a bit.
I shock myself when the sound comes out a bit seductive. I don't mean to flirt back-- but what's the problem with that? Ash is my best friend for one, we flirt all the time, but she's also fucking stunning. I see no problems.
Ash tilts her head, scrunching her eyebrows as she flashes her perfect smile at me. Her eyes trail over my body and I instantly feel myself stiffen, heat washing over my cheeks. Her reaction to me is real-- this isn't us acting friendly because we know each other. This is Ash rizzing up a stranger.
"Really? I think I'd remember you if we've already met," she says with a soft laugh, chewing on her bottom lip as our eyes meet again. "When did you see me?"
I suck in a breath, trying to calm my fluttering heart and hot cheeks. "Instead of telling you," I say randomly without any thought, "How about we play a game? The group of you can try and guess who I am." Smiling, I glance over at Larry who's smirking down at me, his sharp eyebrows and deep gaze forcing that blush back to my cheeks.
Todd watches me, expressionless with his hands in the pockets of his neat pants. He doesn't move an inch.
And I don't dare look at Sally who's been quiet too.
Ash narrows her eyes, pinching her lips together to contain a smile. She glances to Sally then over to Larry and Todd before focusing on me again. "Okay," she hums. "I love games."
I flinch back when she gravitates a bit closer to me, her gaze flickering over my mask then to my lips. Is this the same Ash who screamed in excitement over everything when I was younger? And scarier, I find my heart racing because her interest in me is exciting.
Two can play at this dangerous game.
I take another leisure sip of my drink, bringing it to my mouth with shaky hands as I turn my gaze to Ash's glossy lips.
Her top lip is a bit bigger than her bottom lip. She has a soft cupid's bow accentuated by highlighter that was purposefully and meticulously placed there. Her lips look soft, plush. Maybe it's just the glitter or the way the lights reflect off her lipgloss. Either way, I'm sure she'd be fun to kiss.
What the fuck am I doing?
Ash leaves my field of vision almost immediately. I look up, noting that she's sat on the edge of the stage with a smirk on her hypnotizing lips like she knows she has me wrapped around her finger.
"So, Mystery Girl," she says, a seductive lilt to her sing-song voice. "Can you give me a little hint to start?"
I glance over, making eye contact with a concerned Sally Face. One of his elbows is propped on the stage behind him and the other is languidly resting on Ash's thigh.
He watches me carefully, no doubt sizing me up. I've noticed that he finds threats to his group then carefully assesses them. The fact that I'm saying I know Ash probably raised alarm bells in his head.
I look over to Larry next, watching as he raises his eyebrows and turns his back to me, leaning his elbows on the stage as he watches Ash's side profile. He has a really nice, strong back, by the way. Also, I'd love to braid his hair one day.
Todd stays in his same position, he even rolls his eyes when Ash tilts her head at me, waiting for me to give her an answer.
But what kind of hint could I give her? Almost anything I'd say would make her figure me out immediately. I'm really having to think hard about this because everything that comes to mind is something she knows.
I'll have to be careful about this. I have to give her a hint of a hint. Something she may have a memory about, but doesn't know for sure.
I bring my straw to my lips, sipping until I get closer to the bottom. Straight fucking vodka. Damn that bartender.
"Sorry, I'm thinking of a hint. I don't want to give myself away," I muse, throwing a wink at Ash. She immediately grins. "That would take the fun out of the game, wouldn't it?"
Ash giggles cutely as Larry turns around again, watching me with narrowed eyes and a ghost of a smile on his lips. What is that hunk of hotness thinking? I already know what's going through Sal's head-- but is Larry on his level?
"You're right. Take your time," Ash says in her soft, lulling voice.
I pull my bottom lip into my mouth, still thinking as hard as I can. I'm coming up with blanks. I need to pull a rabbit out of a hat, but I'm going to have to stall until I get there.
"Want to hug me and see if it feels familiar?" I ask, narrowing my eyes and opening my arms. My hand tightens around my drink as it slowly slides through my fingers.
Ash's eyes widen slightly and she stands again, her feet tapping the ground once she slides off the stage. She looks off to the side and purses her lips, taking just a step toward me. "Can I kiss you instead and see if that feels familiar?"
My breath catches in my throat and the drink in my hand feels even more slippery as I try to jump over this shock hurdle. I need to get myself together and answer her instead of actually going with this insane proposition she's dropped on me like a weight.
"We aren't familiar in that way, darling," I giggle lightly, letting my arms fall to my side.
Ash shrugs, a guilty grin pulling at her lips. "And? We can just do it anyway."
A deep, amused cackle makes me look past Ash and to Larry who has a hand over his mouth. "Sorry, couldn't hold back the laughs," he snickers. His sharp eyebrows arch further as he raises them at me. "You're in danger, MG."
"That's comforting," I say, laughing at Larry's failed attempt to hide his reaction to me and Ash's flirting. He's an evil little thing and clearly he chases a tense situation to get some laughs. "Maybe Ash is the one in danger."
My eyes cut over to Ash as she takes another step toward me. "Please let me find out if I'm in danger, I promise you won't regret it." She bends her knees just a bit for a moment, clasping her hands together with a mind-swaying look in her eyes. She's begging without words.
I glance at Sally quickly. He's still quiet, but he looks like he's on guard and intrigued at the same time.
Fuck, how do I get out of this. Todd's even standing up straight, watching us with a disgruntled look and curiosity in his eyes. They're expecting me to give in and I'm not entirely sure if I want to say no in the first place. Which is bad.
I don't have any feelings other than platonic love for Ash, but I've missed her so much that I genuinely would love to kiss her senseless. It's like reconnecting with the other half of my heart for the first time in years-- which, honestly, that's exactly what this is.
"Do you care who I am, Ash?" I ask, tilting my head questioningly. If we're going to kiss, I want to make sure she isn't going to lose her entire head once she finds out who I am.
"Yes, I want to know who you are. In regards to a kiss, I don't care who you are. When I find out, I'll probably be happy we kissed." She sends me a sweet little smile then licks her bottom lip.
"Okay. Then my only condition is that we are only friends and you have to remember that. Nothing will come of our kiss." I dip my head down a bit, trying to show that I'm being serious.
"If nothing will come of our kiss, then why are we going to do it?" She asks, starting to take quick steps toward me.
I take one step back, just to slow her down until we can finish this conversation. "We're going to do it because you're beautiful and I've missed you so much that I wouldn't be happy with anything less than a kiss."
Ash huffs out a laugh, growing close enough to take my hands into hers and yank me toward her. She towers over me and I have to tilt my head up to get a good view of her. "You must know me well then," she purrs, her expression filled with curiosity and eagerness. She's reckless. It's fun. "Are you ready?"
"I... think so?" I murmur, quickly licking my lips. Ash's cool hand trails up my arm and then to the base of my neck, pulling me closer to her.
"If you don't want to, say no," Ash says honestly, leaning down so that we're face-to-face. She looks into my eyes, trying to tell me that it's okay to say no. She won't go through with this if I don't want to.
"I-- I want to, I'm just nervous--"
"Don't be nervous. It'll be quick." Ash's serious expression washes away as she glances at my lips then back to my eyes again, pretty smile enveloping her lips again.
I nod, my heart thumping wildly against my chest as she leans forward. I grab onto Ash's wrist as her other hand gently brushes over my cheek.
And then her lips are on mine. She's still for a moment and so am I, just squeezing my eyes shut as I try to adjust to the feeling of her lips.
They're softer than I expected them to be, but sticky. And for that reason, I grip onto her wrist tighter because it feels like she's stuck to me and I'm not upset about it.
Ash takes my squeeze as a sign, tilting her head a bit. The movement causes her lips to slide perfectly against mine and butterflies flutter to life in my stomach.
I kiss her back, enjoying the way Ash's lips mold to mine so deliciously. The feeling is addictive and if it weren't for her sudden intake of breath, I'd probably pull her even closer. But her reaction reminds me that we're in public and that this is just a little test.
Ash pulls away just as quickly as she kissed me. She was right-- it was quick. And I actually thoroughly enjoyed it.
My eyes flutter open and I look up. Ash's hands are still on either side of my face, but she watches me with a tilted head and narrowed eyes-- like she's trying to figure me out. Like... the kiss actually gave her a clue, which would make no sense.
Then, she leans forward and slams her lips on mine for just a second. I shake my head once she pulls away and look up at her with a puzzled expression that I just can't control. What the fuck.
"Is your name Victoria?" Ash turns her head to the side, eyes wide and brows furrowed like even she's confused.
I choke on air over the near accuracy. What the fuck kind of succubus is Ash? How on earth did a kiss give her the first two letters of my nickname? Is this some joke? Does she already know?
"No, my name isn't Victoria," I force out through coughs, wheezing as I blink through my tears.
Ash lets me go, putting a hand on her hip and another on her chin like a real Sherlock Holmes.
I glance over at the boys quickly. Larry has wide eyes and a shit-eating grin on his face. Sally's looking away from us with his hands resting between his legs. He isn't slick. Todd is just shaking his head.
Men.
"Well, who the hell are you?" Ash murmurs to herself.
An audible, obnoxious sigh pulls my attention away from the viridian-eyed beauty again and I look over to Sally who hops off the stage and turns away from us quickly. "I'll be back," he murmurs with shaky breaths. "I'm going get a drink."
Larry snorts. "You lying bastard," he says, patting Sal's back. "You're just as gozzled as me right now."
Sally groans, walking away from Larry without a word. And Larry turns toward him, raising his arms. "What!?" he yells a bit louder as Sally disappears through the crowd. "I'm not wrong!"
"You kiss just like Victoria did," Ash suddenly says, pointing an accusing finger at me. She's gone from playful to serious in just a matter of minutes.
A laugh falls from my lips and my tense stance slackens a bit. "Oh, thank God." I twirl my drink again and shake my head. "I thought you just manifested that name from a kiss. I was freaked."
"Were you?" Ash narrows her eyes and takes a step toward me again. I find that deja vu feeling tickling the back of my brain.
I swallow thickly, never answering as I look over to Larry with pleading eyes. He only shakes his head, flicking me off with a devious and beaming smile. No fucking help.
"So, was I close with the name then? Because why else would you be nervous." Ash pries, chewing on the inside of her cheek in thought. "Actually, what are you doing here? Why wouldn't you just tell us who you are? Are you someone that we don't like?"
My mouth gapes open like a fish, opening and closing while I fight for an answer. My mouth feels dry and my hands are clammy again. "N-No. You guys like me. You've never had any issues with me, well, Sally doesn't like me but other than that we've all gotten along very well. Incredibly well, in fact!" I hold my hands out in front of me just as Ash stops walking toward me. "You guys love me, well, I hope. Actually, I don't really know. Maybe you all hate my guts, I wouldn't be able to tell."
Ash looks confused, like she's trying to grasp onto what I just spewed at her. My answer didn't convince her, it just fucking confuzzled her.
"I can't believe it." I turn my head when Todd talks for the first time. He doesn't have that borderline angry look on his face anymore. In fact, his eyes are a bit wide and he isn't frowning. I'd say this is his excited face. "You're Vi."
I don't know what to say as my mouth falls open again. I just stare at Todd and that seems to confirm it for him, so I shut my mouth and swallow through the dryness on my tongue. My throat burns and it feels like my heart's dropped out of my ass. I expected everyone to be stuck for hours, not for fucking Todd to sniff me out in just five minutes.
Larry suddenly scrambles into a standing position, his expression the first one I've seen tonight that isn't smiling. His lips are parted and his eyebrows are bunched together like someone just told him Dolly Parton died.
I pull my eyes away from the two men and look up at Ash, noting her slackened expression. Then, suddenly, she's become the same person I see on videos and talk to over the phone. The same best friend that I joke and bicker with.
In her soft, surprised, high-pitched voice, Ash asks, "Is that really you, Vi?"
There are tears on her waterline, but then there's hope in her eyes. Hope in the way she takes a stumbled step toward me with her hands clutched to her chest like she doesn't know what to do with them.
And I can't tell her I'm not Vi. She looks so torn up in the best way and it would tear me up too if I wasn't honest with her.
"Yea," I rasp out. "It's me, Ash."
Ash turns into a blur as I'm lifted from my feet with immense screams of joy filling my ears. Ash throws me around like a dog's chew toy and bellows so many indecipherable things that I'm taken aback for a moment, but overall relishing in the joy that seeps from her and into me.
"You told me you weren't fucking coming, Vi, what the fuck!? And it's been like ten years! Where the fuck? How-- What-- Where did you come from? How did you get here!?" Ash shrieks into my ear, a sob or two getting twisted into her words.
I chew on my lips, finally wrapping my arms around Ash's neck as she continues to throw me around like I weigh nothing. Hell, she has some upper body strength.
Tears start to sting my eyes as all of my senses are filled. I can smell Ash's coconut scented shampoo, I can taste her strawberry lipgloss mixed with my tears, I can hear her screams mixed with the music around us, I can feel each strand of soft hair and her heart beating wildly against my chest, and I can see Larry and Todd's excited and shocked expression every time Ash swings me toward them again.
"I know. But it doesn't matter because I made it here," I laugh through trembling lips. I sniff when the sound of my own voice hits my ears. Fuck, just hearing that I'm hardly holding it together makes me want to break.
"You're so fucking right. Oh my gosh," Ash cries, finally dropping me to my feet but never unwrapping her arms from my waist.
She squeezes me tightly, then abruptly pulls away, holding me at arms length with mascara bleeding down her red cheeks. "Holy fuck, Vi. You let me kiss you!?" She looks absolutely bamboozled, like she truly can't wrap her head around the fact that our lips touched.
"Uh," I spit out, still reeling from being twirled around like a bug stuck on a carousel. "Yea. We kissed. I told you my conditions. What, do you regret it now?" I narrow my eyes playfully.
Ash slaps a hand to her chest like she's appalled. "What? Hell no, I could never regret it! I just can't believe we fucking kissed!?"
"I can't believe you guys kissed and haven't fucking included me yet. Your turn is over, Ash!" Arms wrap around my middle and I find myself being throw around like a test dummy yet again. This time, the perpetrator is Larry. "I can't fucking believe you're here!" he bellows.
"This entire night is full of you guys being non-believers!" I yell once my feet touch the ground again. Larry spins me around to face him and I feel like I'm going to cry again just over the big smile of excitement on his face. "You guys better start believing because I'm here in the flesh."
Larry bends over to reach me, wrapping me up in a big, strong hug. And, oh yea, I take the opportunity to drag my hands up his muscular arms as I hug him back.
"Stop feeling me up, Vi. Your kiss with Ash was hot enough," Larry laughs into my hair, giving me a squeeze.
I can't help but laugh and quickly wrap my arms around his neck. "I'm so sorry, I couldn't stop myself. I never imagined you'd be so jacked."
"Ha, yea, I honestly didn't see it in my future either, but here we are," he murmurs before pulling away. He looks down at me, tears fucking brimming his eyes too. "Fuck, dude. I might cry. You're such an awesome chick," he says breathily, pretending to wipe tears from his cheeks.
I pinch my lips together and give him my best unimpressed look. "Come on, we're supposed to be strong. No more crying," I tell him.
"Maybe the tears will go away if I get a kiss too.." Larry rolls his eyes very obnoxiously. His gaze cuts to me then he immediately looks away again, being as playful as always.
I sigh, grabbing onto his cheeks. "Come here, jackass," I say, growing excited as I pull him close to me.
Larry murmurs out a "fuck yea" before I quickly press my lips to his. It's a little kiss, shorter than me and Ash's but I was just as eager to do it since I haven't seen him in so long.
When I pull away, Larry scrunches his face up and splutters, wiping at his mouth. "Dammit, Ash," he says, fake gagging. "Why'd you have to kiss Vi first with that stupid lipgloss? That shit is disgusting."
"Hey!" Ash scoffs, walking toward us. "Don't hate on my very expensive, very amazing lipgloss! And besides, Vi seemed to like it well enough."
I scoot my way out of their argument and tiptoe my way to Todd who greets me with a soft smile. I smile back at him and he opens his arms to me immediately.
My insides jump around in excitement as I jump into Todd's hug, scrunching the fabric of his blazer in my hands. "It's so nice to see you, Todd," I murmur into his shoulder. He smells like cedar trees.
"It's nice to see you, too, Vi. Sorry I figured you out so quickly," he laughs softly, giving me a squeeze before separating from our embrace. He puts his hands into his pockets then switches his weight to his other foot.
"It's no issue," I say, waving him off. "I'm really happy actually. I wouldn't have been able to say it myself."
He scoffs lightly, patting my shoulder. "Clearly. Grow a backbone, huh?"
I can't help but giggle as I pat his elbow in return. Todd watches me with a soft look, like he's genuinely happy to see me and that thought feels me with even more joy. Everyone's happy to see me.
Well... almost everyone.
"Vi, what the fuck are we going to do about Sal?" Ash suddenly hisses worriedly, her hands clamping onto my shoulders as she shoves her face next to mine from behind. "He's going to be so pissed!"
"It's alright," I breathe, squeezing my eyes shut as I remember that I still have some true bullshit to handle. "I'm cool," I settle on then turn my head, looking Ash in her pretty green eyes. "I've got this."

hi everyone! it's so nice to meet you! i'm rose (she/her), and i'm really excited to be here bc this concept is 1000/10 !! anyway, i'm bringing my sweet girl - park danbi - to the scene! u can find some information on danbi at the below links and there's also a few blurbs as well as potential plots to get us started underneath the cut !! please feel free to ♡ this post and i'll jump into ur dm's to start plotting !! alternatively, i do have d*scord upon request ( though i'm very new to discord so bare with me askljf; ) so just lmk if u prefer to chat there !! looking forward to interacting with everyone and their lovely muses ‧₊˚ ପ(๑•ᴗ•๑)ଓ ♡
basic stats - memories - potential connections
some basics to get u started !! full name. park danbi gender. cis female occupation. customer service desk at fresh fields grocery store & deli. current residence. floor 03, unit #03. positive traits. encouraging, dependable and forgiving. neutral traits. calm, appreciative and tolerant. negative traits. compulsive, evasive, and weak-willed.
since arriving in ansong . . .
danbi spends most of her time at fresh fields so it's likely that you've seen her behind the desk there !! she's usually always taking on extra shifts bc .. well she doesn't have much of a life tbh askljdf;
if she isn't at work then she likes to frequent the farmers market on the weekend and also can be seen at 8-bit bc she loves stuffed animals and is always failing trying to win some.
other than going to one of the three aforementioned locations she's spending time at home in her apartment or keeping close to places around the complex
she has a huge soft spot for anything cute and also really loves animals so she'll take care of any stray cats she might see outside. also loves to garden so she has accumulated quite a collection of potted plants inside and outside of her apartment.
she has no recollection of anything that happened before she arrived in ansong and has not even unlocked her first core memory yet.
it's difficult for her to open up to others - she is always the person who is there for you and who knows everything about you, but isn't really keen on opening up herself and will push her own feelings aside.
deals with mild obsessive-compulsive disorder; has a tendency for “rituals” such as checking that the front door is locked three times, making sure everything is put away in a specific place and arranging things to be color-coordinated.
she has a heart-shaped locket as her first memento, and it's something that she wears each and every day.. when she's nervous, she'll play around with it.
some plot ideas that might be fun !! - regulars at the customer service desk at fresh fields! - farmer market buddies! she loves to go each weekend she isn’t working aslfkj; - someone who likes to feed the stray cats outside with her !! taken !! - someone who accidentally knocks over her potted plants :') - someone who sees her failing miserably at winning a plushie at 8-bit and wins it for her bc she looks like a sad puppy standing there for hours :’) taken !!- she comes to your apartment because the power went out in hers and she’s HIGH KEY SCARED but she's trying to put on a good front bc sdklfgjdf; taken !! - someone who keeps getting her mail askjfd; or maybe she's getting theirs and has to keep returning it - she loses her locket which is the most important item she owns and you try to help her find it askjfd;
i'm happy to explore other plot ideas or connections so please feel free to dm me or i can contact you on d*scord to plan some stuff out if none of the above tickle your fancy :'') i'm also v keen on the idea of our muses working off of chemistry and seeing where they end up so we can always do a first time meeting and see where that goes too instead of having something super planned out !! anyway, that's all i have for now so dflkgj; hope everyone has a great day !! ♡

THIS IS FICTION AND DOESN'T DEPICT THE ACTUAL PEOPLE IRL
Tumblr media
san's point of view
"wow..."
"mhmm."
"can you also find out where my ex stays? she still has my red hoodie."
seonghwa hits wooyoung upside the head, his eyes never leaving the screen.
you see.
the four of us have the tape but now what?
"should've listened to beomgyu. i miss my mom's cooking." yeosang complains out loud but i'm not ready to give up just yet.
"how will we ever find the man?" seonghwa asks and i shrug.
"if only someone could find out if he's got any socials or something. it would be easy to find him after that." wooyoung says from where he's sitting and we all look at him.
i nod slowly, my eyes widening the longer i ponder what he just said.
"wooyoung you fucking genius. there's this girl who frequents the internet café who does this kind of stuff. i remember she told me how she found out who her boyfriend was cheating with from a mere shade of lipstick. this girl lived across the country.
"what is your grown ass doing in internet cafés?" yeosang asks and i shrug.
i dial mingi's number and wait for him to pick up.
"hello?"
"rise and shine princess."
"dude what the fuck?"
"can i ask you for a favor?"
"what is it?"
"tomorrow or like, today... i think. whatever, before 2pm, can you please go to that internet café near my place and look for kwon nari?"
"what?"
"please. tell her i'm looking for her and give her my number."
"fuck okay. whatever."
"thanks man."
i hang up and the other three just look at me, waiting to hear what's happening.
they need to quit playing because it's obviously going according to plan right now.
"oh, we just need to wait for her call."
"looks like we're getting somewhere."
finally. then we can leave. i don't know how much longer i can stand this place hopefully in time for christmas and then beomgyu can finally propose to kaya and everything will be fine.
"hey, you know once beomgyu and kaya get married, then we'll be family?" i inform yeosang who's sitting next to me now and he let's out an exasperated sigh.
"as if being friends wasn't draining enough." he comments standing up.
"hey excuse me, what's that supposed to mean? kang yeosang." i stand up after him, following him to wherever he's walking to.
Tumblr media
it's been like 8 hours and i'm still waiting for the call. mingi hasn't even said anything to us either and now i'm wondering id he even went in the first place.
"we might need the catfish crew at this point if we have any hope of catching this guy." seonghwa complains, eating a cherry popsicle after his mini meltdown.
"call mingi." wooyoung tells me and i nod, going to call mingi again but my actions are cut off by my ringtone and i immediately jump to pick up.
"hello?"
"hi is this choi san?" a girl on the other side asks and i let out a sigh of relief before confirming it's me. "it's kwon nari, your handsome friend gave me your number and told me you wanted me to call you?"
"handsome friend?"
"mingi."
"ah of course. yeah i did."
"may i ask why?" she asks cautiously and i take a breath before answering.
"okay this might seem crazy but i kinda need you to find someone for me. i remembered that story you told me about that one girl."
"oh yeahhh. sure i can do that for you."
oh thank goodness.
"but."
jesus.
"i need a favor from you." she requests and i can hear the shift in her tone.
"what do you need?"
"well, first things first, is your friend mingi single?"
"you want me to set you two up?"
"i mean, i never said that but sure."
this girl
"alright, deal."
"do you have anything i can use as a first clue?"
"uhhh... security footage?"
"that's perfect, email it to me." she tells me and i tilt my head.
"who still uses those?"
"people with jobs san."
oh.
"okay well text me your email address then damn."
"alright. i'll call you with any updates."
"thank you. bye."
i hang up and everyone stays silent, waiting for me to tell them what's going on.
"she'll help us."
and so she did because here we are a mere 5 hours later and she gave us information on where the man works. all the way in.
"SEATTLE??" beomgyu exclaims through the phone, his voice slicing deep into my eardrums.
"yeah. he's a real estate agent apparently." i explain to him and i hear an audible sigh coming from his side.
"so what now? you're gonna fly to seattle?"
"yeah."
"san, just come back. how sure are you that he still has it? what if he sold it on facebook market place or something?"
i turn my head to seonghwa who shrugs. "he has a point."
"we'll never know if we don't try. look i can even go alone if i have to. i don't wanna hold everyone here any longer.
"plane's booked." wooyoung says, closing his laptop. well that's that.
"you're gonna give me grey hairs before i hit 25." he mumbles and i can see the expression on his face.
"BEOMGYU ITS BEEN 20 MINUTES!! NOW WHAT?" i hear anither voice shouting from the other side of the phone and i just know it's kaya.
"i gotta go." he hangs up before i can even say anything and i put my phone down.
"when is this flight?" yeosang asks wooyoung.
"tomorrow morning... at 1."
"wooyoung it's 10pm!!"
"earliest flight."
"start packing, hello??" seonghwa tells us and we all start running around the room, seonghwa and yeosang go to their room to start packing their things.
what the fuck are we even doing?

Commissioner Gordon to the Rescue!
Tumblr media
Paris, Eiffel Tower, 4:34 AM
" Ladybug we can't keep this going! We need help! " a bee -striped heroine's voice is heard from a distance. Abeille .
" While that is true, who is going to help us? The justice league already called us a joke." someone says followed by a sharpening sound. Tatsu .
" Why don't don't we ask Batman? He's the most reasonable one" a calm voice reasons supporting his girlfriend's idea. Serpent .
" Yes, but how are we going to call Batman without ending up in asylum? Bailing ya outta there is hard work ya know?" the spotted armoured heroin asks. Ladybug.
" She's right guys" the quick witted fox hero chimes in. Reynard.
"Why don't we broadcast worldwide news that if Justice League doesn't show up in Paris within 24 hours we'll destroy the world" the usually quiet turtle cladded hero asks. Shellder.
"Yeah right! That way we'll have even more charges." Serpent says glaring at Shellder.
"Hey LB don't you know a police officer there? Afterall you are from there." Abeille asks the once street kid.
"Yes, Bug. You know the old guy. Maybe we can ask for his help." Tatsu asks her girlfriend.
"That's a nice idea. The Commissioner does have contact with Batman! Oooh then we might get to use the Bat Signal! Oh my Kwami, what if he doesn't recognise me?" Ladybug asks.
"He will recognise you Bug!" Shellder chimes in.
"The Bat Signal is real!" Reynard exclaims.
"That's out of the point. Don't get distracted!" Tatsu scolds.
"Ladybug, do you trust him enough to reveal your identity? Cause if you don't he won't believe you either." Serpent reasons.
"I guess. After all he saved my life multiple times." Ladybug answers unsurely.
"Ladybug there's no 'I guess' it's either Yes or No." Serpent says sternly.
"Then I do. I trust him." Ladybug answers firmly.
"Alright then, Yes it is." Abeille says.
"To Gotham we go!" and Reynard jumps off. Returns a minute later. "So, when exactly are we going and where?" he then asks.
"Now, Luks call Jagged and inform him. I'm sure he'll cover for us. Kalki if you may?" Ladybug asks.
"Of course Great guardian, but till Serpent finishes the call can you tell how and when have you been to Gotham?"
"Oh that, I was a street kid with my brother back then. We used to steal for a living. Jason took care of both of us. I was just three when we started living on the streets. Jay was eight. There were a few warehouses where all the street kids lived together. Commissioner Gordon came disguised as an old man and gave the kids blankets. He also anonymously left food for kids. When I figured out that was him I asked him why he didn't report us to the CPS. He answered Kid I know the CPS gives you Pipsqueaks shitty homes. Don't think about it. When I was seven I was kidnapped by Scarecrow. For testing some toxins. He threw me out saying I wasn't good enough. So somehow I found myself in Paris. Without my brother." Ladybug says with tears in her eyes.
"I called Dad and he said Okay because the Sandboy akuma was hard. Five hours particularly, all of your guardians think we're having a sleepover." Serpent says breaking everyone out of their stupor.
"LB, Can I use Kalki this time? Please?" Reynard asks.
"Fine, Here." She says giggling.
Gotham, Police station, 10:52 PM
Gordon POV
The shift is almost over yet I can't help but feel something interesting is about to happen.
Suddenly a blue portal appears. I take out my gun for defence.
"Woah, Woah no need for a gun. We come in peace." The one dressed like a fox answers.
"Who are you? Clarify your purpose!"
"We're heroes of Paris. We come to ask for your help." The one with a katana answers.
"Heroes? In Paris? Since when? I'd say it was a joke, But the portal proves it. Why wasn't the Justice league informed?"
"Slow down a bit, 3 years, Justice league laughed on us, to specify Green Lantern." Striped one? Answers.
"A...Alright, But how can I trust you, For all you could be joker's goons."
"You can trust us, If you don't, you know her you can trust us." The one with harp points to a spotted Ladybug?..
"Okaay, What're your names?"
"Official Introduction Time!" The flute one answers.
"The name's Reynard, Paris's Residential Fox Hero! Fox to meet you!"
"Or Nathaniel Kutzberg"
"The name's Abeille, Bow down Peasants!"
"AKA Chloe Bourgeois"
"I am Serpent, The most Responsible one."
"Or Luka Stone."
"I'm Shellder, Pleasure to meet you."
"Or Marc Anciel"
"Tatsu, Nice to meet you Commissioner, Kagami Trusugi"
"I... I'm Marinette Todd, Hi Commissioner"
"Dear Lord Mari is that really you? What do need my help for?"
"We need to come in Contact with the bats, And can you help me find my brother?"
"Sure Mari, But about your brother you see, He's a Bat too..."
"What?! Seriously?"
Bat Signal, Gotham, 11:13 PM
Red Hood's POV
"Alright we're here Gordon, What's the problem?" Big B asks in his Batman voice.
"We have visitors Batman, They're looking for you." Commiss says. Who in the world would look for Batman?
One by one Teens dressed as animals come out from dark. Drat everyone's just as confused as me.
"Alright who're you playing dress up? Ya know that's dangerous." I ask voicing everyone's curiosity. Suddenly a blue blob attaches to me and starts Giggling.
"Jay-Jay it's me" My eyes start to sting. Only one person calls me that.
"P-Pixie?" I ask unsurely. Pixie nods her head.
"Pixie-Pop it's really you!" I say once i register what's going on.
"I'm never leaving you again Squirt. You're alright! Remind me not to let you alone on streets again, Leave it to Mari for a recipe for trouble!" I tighten my hold on her.
"Hood who's this? Why are they all dressed up?" B. Yeah I forgot he was there as well.
"B, This is Marinette, my little sister. Although I do not know why she and those kids are dressed up."
"Allow me to explain, There's been a super villian in Paris for three years now. These kids are the Heroes there. They came to me First cause they didn't want to get arrested. Green Lantern called them a joke. I know you'd shoo them off, but Bats I saw a Portal open. They came through it. And Jason, Your sister's the team leader!" Gordon explains.
"What! That bitch let me at him! troubling my sister for no good !I, Jason Todd will Skin him"
"Hood! No names at the Field!" Demon Spawn says.
"Relax, She knows."
"Elaborate" B says.
Batcave, Gotham, 8:56 AM
"Gabriel Agreste is Hawkmoth!" Red robin exclaims.
"Ha! Take that Chat! I was right!" Ladybug says.
"Red robin can you do research on one Lila Rossi? She's probably working for him." Abeille says.
Batcave, Gotham, 11:12 AM
"Guys! Emergency meeting!" Red Robin Shouts.
"Lila Rossi wanted psycopath in 3 different countries!"
College Dupont, Paris, 11: 34 AM (Next Day)
"You bitch why did you file a fake report against Lila!" Alya barks out at Marinette.
"My daughter did no such thing." That wasn't Tom Dupain. There stood in all Glory Bruce Wayne himself.
"Yo-Your Daughter?" Alya asks
"Yes, my adoptive daughter, Jason todd-wayne's biological sister."
"Hey Alya don't shoot the messenger, I filed the evidence on behalf of ladybug and her team!"
"What do you mean? Multimouse isn't supposed to be active!" Agreste says.
"Oh, I didn't know that! I mean how do you think your miraculous was taken Chat Noir?"
Gasps were heard.
"It was you!"
"Yes. Now son of a bitch outta my way!"
"What do you mean?"
"Haven't you heard Gabriel Agreste was Hawkmoth."
Andre's Ice Cream, Paris, 12:13 PM
"Well that went better than we thought, right Babe?" Kagami asks her girlfriend.
"Sure did Gami!" Marinette repies.

8 - PTSD Heart
Tumblr media
@bat-luna-cat @let-me-luve-you
Thank you helping me with my writer's block on this book
Part 9
Military Lovers masterlist
3 months earlier
"Jay I can't - I can't do this!" I try to hold in tears balancing my weight on my not injured foot. Today is the first time I'm allowed to slowly start putting pressure on my right leg again after it being in a cast months. Kyle lays underneath the kitchen table in his apartment. I'd been discharged from the hospital a month ago. Will transferred me to physical therapy that same day. Everything else was fine but Kyle and I were both ordered to take therapy to get our strength back. "Hey look at me. Yes you can. You survived through the attack so you can do this." Jay reassuringly said standing close by in case I start to fall.
Lowering my foot to the floor I feel my knee buckle and Jay races forward holding me up against his chest making me blush. A car alarm started going off and Kyle crawls underneath the table more. Trying to find a way out but he keeps bumping into chairs. Hoping on my no dominant foot I drop on the ground crawling on my elbows gently gripping his collar making him stop. "Ky you're okay. Look at me, you're with me." He whimpered cradling towards me. I shift to sit up watching him lay his head in my lap. "What do you think set him off?" Jay closes the window thinking it was better for Kyle to have fresh air, once it's closed the sound isn't as loud.
"I think it reminds him of the bomb in the church...he was the one who was the closest to it..." I trailed running my fingers lazily through his fur feeling his breathing starting to return to normal. Jay bends down on his knees watching us underneath the small table. He thought he could help us through our traumas since hus aren't as bad since he's been away from the war for 2 years, but now he's not so sure. "I'm sorry that he has to stay inside so much. Maybe we could take him on walks around the park for hours. So he doesn't feel so...trapped." He trailed off reaching to rest a hand on Kyle's paw. "The city just seems like a war for him Jay...we were raised in the countryside." I lay my head on Kyle's feeling tears slip from my eyes hating to see my boy in discomfort.
Kyle and I are in my therapy section. The doctor signed off my paperwork eyeing how I keep tapping my foot on the ground the fan starts humming loudly making me nervous. "Miss L/n, your foot is better but the limp will remain there permanently." The humming turns into the sounds of gunshots and screaming of my fallen members. Kyle senses my nerves whimpering and barking trying to escape from his leash that I put him on so he wouldn't run. "Miss L/n, are you alright?" The doctor questioned seeing me sway getting to my feet racing for the corner bawling my legs up against my chest. My heart rate increased like I can't breathe and Kyle aggressively starts barking so the doctor dials someone. Not even a second later the door burst open for Jay to bend down to me shouting at me in a gentle voice. "Y/n, hey your here. You're not in danger!" Clutching my hands into fists I try scooting further away from Jay seeing the Afghanistan leader in my face. "Get away - get the hell away from me!"
Kyle tried jumping on Jay's back so the doctor tried pulling him off when he nearly bites him. Jay grabs a hold of my shoulders making me stare into his blue eyes. "Y/n, you're not in Afghanistan anymore. I'm not gonna hurt you...I'm not going to hurt you..." I don't move closer instead I try to kick him in the stomach so he pulled me to be firmly pressed to his chest. Whispering in my ear and never releasing me until my brain snapped back to reality. Tears fall from my eyes and I clutched the fabric of his tea shirt in my hands sobbing. Kyle howls lightly laying down on the carpet floor eyeing me in my weak state. "We're going home now. They're done for today." Jay sternly spoke lifting me up into his arms whistling for Kyle to follow him out with the doctor watching the three of us leave without another word.
Jay's POV
Entering my apartment I lay Y/n on the couch under a blanket that she grips tightly still releasing tears. Kyle jumps up on the couch working his head underneath her arm draped over the blanket. Closing the door I pick up the TV remote turning it on. Immediately the news appears on the screen with a reporter lady standing with Marcus in an interview. Videos of the explosion appeared on the side and Y/n leads forward wanting to listen to her command. "Turn it up." I click the volume up hearing the woman ask him about the incident. "So I'm here with tonight with Commanding officer Marcus Brooke's to answer questions about what a Marine under his leadership faced months ago." Marcus leans forward in his chair wearing a Cameo jacket and tan pants. "Yes Amy, the incident months ago simply was a bomb placed inside the church. Luckily my best Marine Y/n L/n and her dog Kyle found a way to get everyone out before they were blown to bits."
Y/n sits up more on the couch and Kyle sits up as well closely paying attention. She hadn't spoken to Marcus since the day at the hospital. He's been calling everyday for a week and everytime she declined the calls. Part of me thinks she's afraid that he might want her to do another tour. "Is there any chance that L/n would be willing to come in for an interview?" Amy questioned laying her hands on her papers. Y/n clutched her hands into fists and Kyle snarled at the TV. "Hell no!" Marcus shakes his head no answering her question. "Not at this time I'm afraid Amy. But I can say she and her dog deserve to be recognized." Her cell phone starts ringing and I answer the unknown number hearing Marcus on the other end. "Can I speak with Y/n please?" Holding it to my ear she slowly nodded yes so I put him on speaker. He's got some nerve calling still.
"What do you want, Marcus. Can't you get the hint I don't want to talk when I ignore your calls." Y/n sniped back to her Marine officer when Kyle growled under his breath. "Y/n, I'm really trying to reach out to speak with you about something important-" She shivers wrapping the blanket around herself more. "I'm not - Kyle and i can't do another tour Marcus..." The line goes silent for a minute when I lean my elbows on the couch waiting for him to reply. "I know that. I spoke with your doctor and he confirmed you and Kyle should be honorably discharged from the Marines. I'd like to schedule a ceremony for you and your fallen unit in a couple days." Y/n and I both lock eyes with one another. Y/n hasn't slept right since everything happened. She's nearly tried to hurt me in the kitchen with a knife during a bad lightning storm.
Kyle barks constantly when the furness blares when it's cold outside. He thinks it's gunshots. At least that’s what his vet doctor told us. Both of them freak out when the other is struggling. "Look Commander Brooke's what exactly are you saying?" I asked running a hand through my hair wanting this conversation to be over. "I'm saying that Y/n and Kyle will be awarded a Purple Heart."
Comments really appreciated ❤️

Play Pretend
Summary: When the chance comes to escape you're are going to play it smart to make sure you get away.
Trigger Warnings: Murder, gun usage, abuse, violence, kidnapping, imprisonment.
Jungkook
Yandere!Jungkook
Mafia!Jungkook
It's been about a week since Jungkook locked you in. Only now were the bruises on your ribs going down. And no matter how quickly he shifted back to normal and calmed down the damage was done, he’d shown you a truly terrifying side of himself and you knew he couldn’t be trusted anymore. The worst of it was that he never even feigned an apology. He didn’t think he was in the wrong to react like he did. He just went from one day to the next like nothing was different.
You felt so stupid. You had thought there was something not right with him the first time you met him. But instead of trusting your gut, you got swept up in his good looks and charm. And that lack of discernment is the reason why you've been trapped in his house for a week now. You tried to tell him that people would be looking for your eventually. But with full certainty, he assured you that wouldn’t be the case. You weren’t sure why or how, but you knew that he 100% believed it. And that made your situation even more despondent.
This evening, for the first time in 8 days, Jungkook finally left the house. You had thought it might be a chance for you to look for an escape, but to your disappointment, he left one of his ‘employees’ with you. You still can't pinpoint what he does exactly, but all of the people you have seen with Junkook have a similar dangerous vibe. This one is no exception. Tall, strong, large and mean-looking. It completely dashed your hopes of getting away. That was until you heard the clear and threatening order Jungkook gave him. For the second time, you were seeing this sweet kind young man have men double his age, who were larger and tougher looking than him, look weak and fearful. The exact wording slipped your mind, but the gist of it was if anything happens to you while he is gone, Jungkook will violently kill your guard.
After a few hours of stirring, half hesitant to try and half trying to perfect the idea, you finally decide you need to at least attempt a prison break.
Calling the guard, you drop to the bedroom floor, curling yourself tight, clutching your ribs. You knew your bruises were still purple and black there, so it would be the most convincing place to say you had pain. After a few screams, the man dashes in his face draining at seeing you writhing on the floor in agony.
“What happened?” He barks.
“I fell. It hurts.” You wheeze, knowing it's best to keep your details simple to maintain the act.
He bends to help you up and you wail a faked cry of pain, applying your years of watching dramas into practice. You’re not sure how believable your act is, but the man is so swept up in the panic of the moment, it doesn’t really matter. As he gets you onto the bed, you pull up your shirt slightly exposing your marks and bruises and it's the tipping point. He goes from worried to frantic.
"Sh-" he whispers the exclamation under his breath. He looks to ponder his options, and you hope your theory is right and that he is too afraid to call Jungkook first. "Alright, you need to go to the hospital." He declares. You have to lean more into the pained acting to stop a smile from coming onto your face, thankful that your plan is so far working.
The guard picks you up bridal style and carries you downstairs with an urgent patter to his steps. Getting you into the back seat of the car, he rushes into the front and begins driving. Despite his craze, you're surprised to see him driving so steadily and rationally. Abiding the road rules and sticking to the speed limits.
You think your best, or only option would be to get some privacy with Doctor at the hospital and tell him everything. Beg him to call the police. The one risk for going to the hospital is the possibility of the guard not leaving you to talk to the Doctor.
"Fuck." The man hisses under his breath as his phone begins to ring.
The call connects to the cars Bluetooth as he answers, blasting Jungkooks voice in surround sound.
"I'm at home, but you're not. Where are you?" He questions with an ominous tone. The drivers head flicks back to you, his uncertainty flashing through his eyes as he decides what or how much of the truth to tell.
"She hurt herself. Her chest. So I am taking her to the hospital." He reveals everything with a shake in his voice.
Jungkook bursts into a sharp laugh, the sudden piercing of it through the speakers making both of you jump. "She's fine. Bring her back now."
You spring upright, eyes wide. The car rolls to a stop at the traffic light, the man's gaze meeting yours in the rear-view mirror. Jungkook knows! He knows you're faking it. He's going to hurt you again when you get back. You can't let him take you back.
The second the car stops, you don't pause to think, yanking on the door handle and throwing yourself out of the car. Because it is nearly midnight, the suburban area is desolate, but there are a few houses that still have lights on. You know your best option is one of those.
Breaking into a sprint you run across the main road over the island and towards the first house you can see any sign of life in. In a mad frenzy, you begin to pound on the door, calling and screaming for help, begging for them to open. Behind you, you can feel the guard quickly catching up and your pleading gets more desperate.
Giving you pure relief, the front door opens on a middle-aged man looking nearly as petrified as you. You don't wait to explain or discuss anything instead barge past him, hurling yourself through the open door. You spin on your heels, slamming the entrance closed. It doesn't shut though. The full body of the guard powers through the door colliding into you and the homeowner, knocking you both onto the ground in a painful blow.
With a heavy breath and a wild look in his eyes, he stalks over top of you, sealing you all in. The guard pulls a gun and his phone from his pocket, the call to Jungkook seeing to still be active. "Alright, I have h-" he speaks into the receiver, pointing the weapon at the man, rendering him frozen.
"Where are you?!" Jungkook yells, making the guard pull the phone from his ear. Even from a few meters away you can hear his hostile voice loudly and clearly.
For 10 minutes you are sat in the living room numb with fear. You could hear how furious Jungkook was. You can see how mad and nervous your guard is, and you can feel how confused and terrorised the older man is. Without movement, the three of you are stuck in a tense stare off, none able to speak.
On the 11th minute, there is a knock on the front door. The guard peers through the side window and his breath catches in his throat.
You start to physically shake as Jungkook comes in with two more men at his back, looking like an uneven, unsettling mix of calm and intense. Walking in with his hands in his pockets, he takes the size of all three people in the room.
"You left the car in the middle of the road?" He asks the guard, his gaze staying fixed on you.
"Yes. I had to chase her down." He tries to explain shortly.
"Ah," Junkook muses with a click of his tongue. "Get rid of it." He orders one of the other men who came in with him.
The guy nods, rushing to follow the instruction. As the door slams shut, Jungkook walks towards you squatting to your level. "Your ribs hurt Kitten?" he asks with a faked sweetness. He leans down digging his forefinger and thumb into your ribcage. It brings back the true pain of your injuries, making you squeal and writhe while trying to get away from him. His hand wraps around your side, keeping you in place and pushing you to the floor, crushing and gripping your wounds, bringing shortness to your breath and tears to your eyes.
After tormenting you for a few miserable minutes, Jungkook scoffs out a short laugh, standing back up nearly stepping on top of you. "Pick him up" He orders your guard, gesturing toward the homeowner on the floor behind you. He does so, having to hold a lot of the man's weight to get him to his feet. "Anyone else in the house?"
"No, I don't think so." The guard replies with uncertainty.
"Well you're not exactly reliable, are you?" Jungkook sneers.
You jump as two incredibly loud bangs echo out. One after the other, both the guard and the older man drop to the floor. Looking up at Jungkook horrified, he is standing over you holding a gun having just shot the two men. Your stomach is churning at the realization of what he just did. There is only a weak grunt and then silence from the older man, his body slumping still and lifeless. But from the other, there are continued struggled and gasped moans. Jungkook coolly walks to him, another shot firing and the pained sounds stop. Only silence and the pulsing ringing in your ears from the sudden blasts remain.
You're motionless. Panting broken breaths. Too in shock to move. Too scared to do anything. You can't believe this is happening. You're sure you're about to die.
"Go check the house." Jungkook kneels down beside you again, throwing the order to the second man that came with him.
With just the two of you left in the room, he comes closer, speaking lowly and gruffly in your ear. "See what you did Y/n." He motions to the side of you, to the murderous and violent display. You can't bring yourself to look. You know the sounds of those two men will haunt you for the rest of your life. You don't want to add the gruesome image of it as well. "Do want to play? You want to pretend to be in pain?" His hand roughly brushes the hair from off your face. He switches the gun from one hand to the other, his now free left hand digging tightly into your jaw, turning you to him. "Well, we're going home Kitten. And you won't need to pretend when I'm done with you."

A/N: Okay no, fuck off, why did I immediately start crying at this idea:
Yes, when MC goes to the Devildom they become a sheep/ram and that's how they are 90% of the time, but it's like a howl's moving castle situation. Whenever they feel comfortable/ safe/ or loved, that's when they look more human.
Spoilers up to chapter 20 included
TW: Death
GN!MC (They/them, 3rd ppov)
Word count: 846
Tumblr media
It happens in stages, and Mammon swears he's gone crazy.
"Doesn't MC look.. taller today? Like, yesterday I had to carry them up the stairs but today they've been running around the house like crazy." Everyone turns to look at MC, sitting on the table to reach their food, and could very likely die if pushed off the table.
"No, but speaking of which, Beelzebub it's your turn to carry MC to their classes today. Don't grumble about it, it's going to take a week to finish installing all of the ramps on the stair cases so they can go up on their own."
Levi getting irritated when MC suddenly starts getting better at videogames and he cant figure out how their hooves became so dexterous all of a sudden.
Beel notices that they have to buy more food than normal, and not because he's eating it, but because MC is starting to eat a lot more than what they used to, considering their size.
Levi and Mammon watching a horror movie with MC in the living room, occasionally shushing their timid bleats. They huddle closer as the music ramps up, and right as the murderer jumps out, they're startled by a loud "FUCK" coming from between them, screaming to get away, only to see that it came from MC. The first time they've ever heard MC speak.
Lucifer get's an anxious text at 8 am, less than half an hour before school, MC desperately asking him to come to their room. He tries to walk in, but is met with a locked door and an anxious chuckle.
"I-I'm human. Kind of? I don't have anything that fits, I didn't know who else to call." He takes your word for it and gives you the day off from school, taking time later to talk with Diavolo about getting you a proper uniform and using some of the student council budget to get you a few basic clothing pieces since there was no telling how long this human-ram hybrid shape was going to last you.
MC in Satan's room helping him look for books and Satan puts them on a bookstack to look on the higher shelves. He hears a desperate "BLEH!" and looks up to see you falling off the bookcase. He reaches you in time and holds out his arms, but to his awe, he's suddenly looking at a very shocked human, only an inch from his face. He still catches you and you both tumble to the ground, but he can't even be upset because he's hearing your laughter for the first time, so he starts laughing too.
Neither the brothers nor Diavolo or Barbatos have any clue what's causing this constant shifting, but considering they don't really know why MC was turned into and animal in the first place, they decide to ignore it.
After the encounter with Lucifer and Luke in the basement, MC can go to being a full human to a sheep at the drop of a hat when they see Lucifer. The rapid and complete transformations give them aches and pains so Beel gets MC medicine and lotion while Mammon always has a second set of clothes for them in case they shift outside of the House of Lamentation.
Asmo taking MC's measurements in stages, all the way up to being a full human, to help them buy and make outfits for all the forms they could take.
The pacts, like tattoos on skin, become patches of color on their fur. Now, in their middle-stage of transformation their hair is littered with streaks of red, pink, green, yellow, and orange.
MC, shrinking back down, long ears peaking out of light pink-purple coils, and they can't give their final words, only a small pathetic "baa-" as they die in Belphegor's arms.
MC being visibly scared, shaking, as they confront Belphegor and their other body disappears, but they hold their form just as they did the night they confronted Lucifer.
Belphegor thinks about what he did constantly, and when he came to love MC too, never knew how he could forgive himself for killing them. But, seeing you snuggled against him, or feeling your fingers lace through his hair, even with elongated features and tinted hair, he thought he could maybe, consider forgiving himself if you were able to.
On that last morning, everyone was groggy and reluctant so they could be excused for seeing things wrong. Asmo went down to breakfast and could have sworn the tips of MC's hair were dyed a light pink. Beel knew everyone was shorter than him, minus Lucifer, but he could have sworn MC looked a little shorter today. Mammon noticed immediately that MC paused a bit longer when talking; he knew he was tired but he didn't think he misheard that defeated sounding "baa". Lucifer wondered why Mc was tugging at their ears on their walk to Diavolo's castle.
MC, for the first time in months, becoming a full sheep as they try to say their final goodbye.

i'm putting your ask under the cut since it was pretty long, doll 💜
You make a good point about the writers portraying the women in a bad light.—excuse me, i'm just going to sit here and have war flashbacks about all the hell i caught for agreeing with someone who made the observation that pretty much all the stories for the women in s4 served the men in their lives.
it's not that i think that their stories shouldn't intersect or serve the plot (and each other when needed) as a whole, it's that the shift seemed more obvious at the time compared to what came before it.
(i'm also not a fan of the "strong female needs no man" thing that a lot of people ascribe to, tbh, so it's definitely not that for me either. no woman is an island and it's never quite portrayed as a punishment but she very often sacrifices her love for something else, doesn't she? no thanks from me)
I would argue they are all portrayed in a bad light, and the fandoms perception of flawed women is just different to the flawed men. It’s the internalized misogyny.—for sure, they're all portrayed as flawed humans (mostly) but the flaws of men are often equated with a certain amount of grace and humanness that isn't afforded to women.
(this isn't a riverdale thing, this is an everywhere thing. i can't tell you how many times i've seen the same thing in every fandom i've been in. if the man is dramatic, oh he's a baby boy, he's just got *~emotions~*. if the woman is, god, she's just a whiny bitch. if the woman represses her feelings, she's a cold, unfeeling bitch. if the man does, they want to know who hurt him and give him a hug. and so on and so forth. and god help the woman if the male is a fan favorite)
betty's sins have been amplified a lot over the years, up to and including being accused of things she's never done, the good things she's done being ignored, and "needing to be held accountable" (by parts of the fandom? she's fictional?? make it make sense) in ways that no one else is (past, present, and future. i cannot express how little of a fuck i give about fbi crimes she commits in a show where it's been 2021 for 7 or 8 years. of all the lanes to pick, coming down on betty for that when there are plenty of other characters doing plenty of other shitty things is fairly transparent at times).
(and sure, people come at me for that but i don't care, i think it's been decently clear that i don't really pick at any of the mains for the shit they do in any serious manner. baffled, maybe. a few shitposts here or there, sure. mostly i'm impressed by the total lack of dedication to continuity in any way)
Was Betty’s “consequences ” for cheating that much different than Archie’s? Both were handled terribly I’ll give you that. 🙄 Both lost their significant others. And both eventually lost their friendships.—i agree and disagree, i think. if i had a riverdollar for every time i've been told that betty didn't apologize to jughead for kissing archie, i could probably put a down payment on a glamerge egg.
you know who didn't apologize when he told veronica? archie. he also used what he did as way to stop veronica from making long term choices regarding their future and the show tried to portray it as a noble choice instead of being like, "hey, ruining your girlfriend's senior prom is a dick move, actually. maybe wait a few hours?"
he also was going to drop a bomb on jughead 5 minutes before leaving because he felt guilty. great, he should have felt guilty but it wasn't his place. people have totally rewritten 4x18 to make archie this sort of guileless guy who was just confused and going through it.
pass.
not to mention the veronica erasure that happens in an effort to excuse archie for whatever it is he's doing. or the erasure of her in general? wildly annoying.
the point of the above is that, yes, they both lost their significant others but archie didn't pay for it nearly as much in other ways, including time jump friendships. it was presented as it being his choice with veronica as the sacrifice. and he still got to kiss his girl goodbye and get a pat on the back from his best friend.
that's not even including how s5 veronica said it was in the past and that they should move on (after the whole fwb thing) and betty got the voicemail™ reminding her of her sins after almost reconnecting with jughead platonically.
sure. platonically. ha.
But the fandom crucified Betty for it, it was outrageous. Could the show do a better job of showing these consequences equally? Yes! Or even give these women a break? Yes! But the reaction from fans was over the top internalized misogyny in my opinion.—you really only need to look at what the focus was last night after the episode and this morning to see that the pick me energy is strong with some people in fandom.
between that and that one troll who speaks very specifically and literally by believing everything they read on twitter who is obsessed with a handful of bughead blogs, i am very glad i was busy this morning and afternoon.
As a result Betty gets called a psycho murderer liar and when Jughead unleashes on her in a voice mail five years later and calls her names, and accuses her of being the very thing she’s terrified of just to hurt her, he gets a pass from the fandom!!! The mixed reaction to that voice Mail was gross. She didn’t deserve that from Jughead, but people still want to see Betty burn.—to be fair, a lot of that stuff comes from one corner of the fandom who is both loud and prolific at being terminally online with their bad takes. it does trickle down when they spam blogs with asks about it and then it goes on from there.
i didn't think the voicemail was warranted but it had to be bad enough for her not to reach out to him so i understand it. it's also a reflection of the consequences for his choices. we can talk about how he lived with and was dating another girl but let's be honest: he wanted to see betty again for a reason. he lashed out when she canceled on him because he was hurt and disappointed. her cutting off communication was his consequence (that and the rabies) for what he did and her losing her relationship with him after high school was hers.
and yeah, there are people who hate betty and can't get over something she did in high school at 18. that's fine. but they also seem to think that we're bad people for not agreeing with them and that's where i think that speaks loudly on their character, not betty's.💜

Tumblr media
Arielle’s PoV:-
You wake up to Sienna's calls which by the time you go to pick up ends. Yawning you rub your eyes and reach for your phone. You unlock it to find seven missed calls and innumerable texts from Sienna.
<!-- more -->
Tumblr media
“OMG Si! I’m sooo sorry!! I didn’t see your texts at all! Please forgive me!!🥺🥺🥺”, you text back.
"..Fine. Only cause you're my bestie. Now I'm calling you, you're going to answer and tell me word for word of what happened yesterday night as punishment!" She texts you back almost immediately.
"Deal! Just give me a few minutes.", you reply. Getting up from the bed you reach for your bag to take out the things that you need. After brushing your teeth and then combing your hair you unlock your phone again. Going through the contact list you stop at Sienna's number and video call her. "Hi!" Sienna greets you excited.
"Hi," you say.
"You've got a lot to say Ari. But before that, everything is okay, right?" Her concerned voice asks.
"Yes, everything is fine," you smile at her concern.
"Good! Now I need all the details about the "work" you were doing that kept you so busy that you couldn't even reply to my texts or pick my call." You roll your eyes even though she can't see.
"The "work" I was doing was finding out what's wrong with my godfather. And I couldn't reply because I was sleeping."
"Ooh! "
"What "ooh!"?"
"Sleeping with your... " She doesn't finish the sentence but you don't need her to, you already know what she's saying.
"God Si! He's my boss!" She snickers.
"And I’m in his guest room, he's in his room!"
"I know Ari. I was just teasing you. You don't need to explain things to me."
"I know."
"But I need all the details though. What you talked about, even Dr. Banerji's symptoms and what diagnosis you guys made. Everything!" "Fine!" I start filling her with Naveen's condition and the diseases we ruled out.
"That's all?" She asks after I am done.
"Yeah...Why?"
"Medicine can't be the only thing you talked about..."
"Si," I try to warn her to stop teasing me.
"C'mon! There must be something!"
"Umm... his dog? He's so freaking cute! I almost tripped while watching him," you start saying. Well, correction, I tripped while watching him," you laugh.
"You tripped? And you are telling that to me now! Are you hurt?" Sienna switches to mother hen mode.
"Calm down Si! I sprained my ankle slightly but that's it."
"How badly did you injure yourself?
“I think I injured myself quite bad? I couldn't even walk properly, don’t worry it’s fine now! Dr. Ramsey had to carry me inside-" you abruptly stop realizing what you just said. You see Sienna's smirk growing wider.
"He did what?!" She asked surprised.
"Nothing."
"Arielle!"
"Sienna!"
"Ari!"
“Fine! He was just helping me okay?”
"Sureeee!" She says in a teasing voice, " I mean obviously bosses invite their interns to their home and then carries them inside like their bride!”
"Sienna!" I exclaim in a shocked voice and she laughs. You both talk for a little while and then wave goodbye. After ending your phone call with Si, you head out to the empty living room. “Hmm...he must be sleeping. Thank god, or else he would have heard everything!” You open the fridge and spot a bottle of almond milk. You pour yourself a glass and just try to relax, but can’t. Yesterday’s events keep running through your mind until you can’t take it anymore. You wash your glass and keep it aside when you spot a yoga mat tucked away in the corner. You go to your room and get dressed in the simple grey and black outfit, pulling your hair into a high ponytail. Wearing your AirPods, you play a playlist of tunes and head out to stretch. You start with slowly stretching our your entire sore body, making sure not to put much weight on your ankle. Starting with a few simple positions, you slowly work your way up to the harder ones. Pulling out your phone, you quickly set a timer and flex yourself into another position, just as the flash goes off. You quickly post it on Instagram.
Tumblr media
Ethan’s PoV:-
You wake up to the alarm you set for 6:45, brushing and flossing your teeth. You pull on a dark grey v-neck and head out with a half-asleep where you see Arielle in a very twisted, complex position. Not knowing why, you find yourself mesmerised by the fluid way she moves her body from one position to the next. She arches her back and kicks her leg up, twisting her head to the side when she sees you leaning near the doorframe. Letting out a small yelp of surprise, she quickly brushes herself off, taking off her earphones and heads towards you. “Good morning! I didn’t see you there.” You can’t but help trail your eyes over her body, skin-tight leggings and all. She doesn’t seem to notice as she focuses her attention on Jenner.
“Hey, boy! Looks like somebody’s sleepy!” She looks up at you. “I hope you don’t mind, I grabbed a glass of almond milk from the fridge. You were sleeping and I didn’t want to disturb you.”, she says as she scoops him into her arms.
“That’s quite alright. You do know I have a treadmill here right? You can use it if you want, there’s also some other equipment here.” You lead her to an open but tucked away place where you’ve set up all your equipment.
“Join me.”, she says.
“I will.” You head to your room and pull on an outfit and find her using your old treadmill, talking to Jenner at the same time. You’ve never seen Jenner get along with someone this quickly.
“I don’t know why you bought a new one. This is perfectly fine.”, she says as she notices you enter.
“For your height, yes. The handlebars are quite short.”
“Hey! I can’t help it that I’m short! Plus, you’re 6’4”! That’s as tall as a basketball player!”, she says ridiculously. You laugh as you start running on the new treadmill beside her. In 30 minutes, both of you have worked up a good sweat and appetite.
“Okay, I’m done! I’m going to take a shower and then we’ll make something for breakfast.” She heads off to her room as you finish off yours and jump in the shower. After getting dressed and drying your hair until it’s damp, you head into the kitchen to find her climbing on top of the kitchen counter. She’s dressed in a very short hoodie and jeans...or leggings, you’re not quite sure.
“What are you doing?!”
She turns around as she shouts, “Don’t sneak up on a girl like that! I’m trying to grab that pan. Why do you keep everything up so high?!” Laughing, you grab the pan from the shelf with ease and hand to her as she gets down.
“You do know how to cook, right?” She gives you an incredulous look.
“I’m making banana French Toast. Is that okay? I mean you have all the ingredients.” Thank god she isn’t making pancakes.
“Okay, So what’s your recipe?” She gestures to a spread of ingredients. “I need two bowls, a fork and a electric whisk.” You pull out everything from the cabinets and hand it to her. “Okay, first we’ll start with the eggs.” She cracks a few into the bowl and whisks them vigorously until they turn pale yellow and frothy. “Now the sugar and butter.” You hand her the softened butter and sugar. Without measuring, she adds them into the eggs.
“No measuring?”, you ask.
“Naveen.”, she nonchalantly responds as she beats the mixture. You recall the times of when he would cook, never using any type of measurement.
“That man despises measuring cups.”
“Tell me about it! Him and my cousin have debates about it every single time they meet. My cousin’s a professional chef. Now, hand me those ripe bananas.” Handing them over, she quickly peels and mashes them together, adding a lot of vanilla extract. You raise an eyebrow.
“It tastes much better! Now the milk, just enough to thin out the batter.” You hand her the carton of milk. She incorporates it into the batter. Then picking up the bowl of eggs, butter and sugar, she carefully folds it into the banana.
“Okay, done! Now, hand me that pan.” She turns on the stove and adds just a touch of butter to the pan. “If you add too much butter, the bread will become too soft.” She takes a slice of bread and submerges it into the batter. Holding it for a few seconds, she places it onto the pan. Making about 5 pieces while you put away all the ingredients and brew coffee, she places two in one and three in another.
“Do you have chocolate or maple syrup?” You hand her both of them. She pours a little to yours while adding a lot to hers, bringing both the plates to the dining table, along with the coffee you brewed. Jenner starts sniffing the plates.
“No, no, no. Those aren’t for you, they have chocolate. Let’s go get you some food. Where you you keep the dog food?” You pull out Jenner’s food and set a bowl of food and water for him, then go sit down with Arielle.
She pushes the plate with 3 slices towards you. “Try it! It’s one of my special recipes.” You take a bite and you try not to show any emotion. Lord, that is good! “So...how is it?”
“It’s adequate.” She laughs as she takes a bite. Both of you start eating when suddenly her phone rings, Jenner starts barking.
She bends down, “It’s okay, boy. It’s just this.” She shows him her lit up phone. “Do you mind?”
“Not at all.”
Arielle’s PoV:-
You open your phone and see it’s Elijah. “Hey Elijah!”
“Where the hell were you, Ari! We were worried!”
“I’m so sorry! I’m at.. my friend’s house right now. I told Si though.”
“Yeah, I know. She tried calling you but you didn’t answer yesterday. Anyways, apparently you left your shift early yesterday? What happened?”
“Oh that. I wasn’t feeling well and Ines sent me home, I’m fine though now. I ended up twisting my ankle so I couldn’t drive home last night. I’ll be at the apartment in an hour.”
“K, see you.” You hang up and turn to Ethan where you find him finishing his plate. “Sorry about that. My roommates were wondering where I was. Sienna covered for me so I’m fine.”
“Why didn’t you tell me that you left your shift early?” You wince, completely forgetting what you told him.
“I didn’t exactly want to explain, plus I’m fine now.” He nods.
“How did you all get an apartment together, did you know each other before?” You recount the story of what happened as you finish off breakfast. After helping him with the dishes, you go to your room and pack all your stuff and head towards the door as Ethan follows.
“I had a nice time, although I wish we had met by Naveen introducing us. Probably would have saved me that first dressing down.” You notice a flash of regret in his eyes. “But I still don’t mind how we met.” You wave as you head down to your car, driving towards your apartment. You find Elijah, Sienna and Landry on the sofa, watching a movie. “Hey guys!” They turn to look at you.
“Where were you?”, Landry asks. You’re careful not to give away anything.
“My friend was visiting from Chicago, I went to see him.” You drop your stuff and sit near Sienna, as you watch the movie.
“So...what happened this morning?”, she smirks.
“Nothing! Now shut up!”, you say playfully, but quietly.
A few hours later, you, Sienna and Jackie are lounging on the sofa after lunch. “Guys, I’m bored and burnt out from studying. Let’s do something.”, Jackie says.
“But what? Elijah and Landry have gone to another baseball game for a guys’ night with some of the surgical interns.”, Si says. An idea strikes you.
“Guys, what if we have a girls’ night?! We could have a spa day! What do you say?!”
“That’s a great idea! But who do we invite?”, Si asks. You think.
“Let’s invite Kyra and Ines. I’ll go see if Phoebe’s in. And... I think Alyssa’s in town.”, you say.
“Who’s Alyssa?”, Jackie asks.
“My sister-in-law.”, you reply.
“OMG! Do you mean Alyssa Raines? The fashion icon of all time!?”, Si bursts. You nod.
“Yep! And I think she might bring Arabelle along too.”
Sienna shrieks, “This is going to be so much fun! Right Jackie?!” She rolls her eyes.
“Okay, So I have a bunch of products for whipping up masks and scrubs, so I’ll get them out and start organising after calling Alyssa. You two see if Kyra, Ines and Phoebe are up for it. It’s 3 right now so...tell them to come over at 5.” Both of them step outside the apartment to call Phoebe.
You go into your room and call Aly.
“Aunt Arielle! Hiiiii!”, she shouts. You can hear Aly shouting in the background to give the phone to her.
“Hi Belle. Can you do Zia a favour and give the phone to mommy please?”
“Okay!........Hey Ari!”
“Hey Aly, I was just wondering if you were in town. The girls and I were planning to do a spa day. Do you want to join?”
“I don’t know...I need someone to watch Belle”-
You cut her off. “You can bring Belle along. So, it starts at 5. Can you make it?”
“Umm...let me check.” You hear her talking to one of her assistants. “Yeah, I’ll be there. Do you want me to bring anything?”
You think. “Well...it would be nice if we all had matching robes. I’ll send you the address.”
“I should have something in the warehouse. I’ll see you at 5. Bye!” You hang up and turn around to find Si and Jackie entering.
“So, Phoebe is out of town but Kyra and Ines are coming.”, they say.
“Great! Aly’s coming with Belle and I asked her to bring us all matching robes. So that’s...6 ladies and Belle.” You quickly shoot Aly a text and turn to them.
“Okay, so we’ll need to set up an area, arrange everything and probably make some refreshments.”
“Ooh! I saw these really cute pizza bites on Insta yesterday! I’ll make those and lemonade...and then get out some snacks and make something sweet.”
“Si, that’s a lot. You sure you don’t need help?”
“Nope! I’ve got it!” She heads towards the kitchen, a bounce in her step.
“Okay, So we’ll set up in my room.” You start clearing up space in your huge room, layering blankets and pillows.
“Okay, so I’ll get out some towels, mirrors & bowls and you arrange them, Jackie.”
“She arranges them as she asks you, “You’ve done this before, you’re quite good.”
“I host most of the holidays and celebrations at home.” You open one of your cabinets, revealing boxes and shelfs full of beauty products.
“My god, Arielle! How much do you even have? No wonder your skin is so clear.”
You laugh. “There all my godfather’s secrets. His Indian heritage held so much information about natural skincare, and I’ve been interested since a very young age.” You pull everything out and arrange it on your bed.
“I mean I’m Indian too, but I don’t do any of this, but maybe I should. Wouldn’t hurt to have a little bit of natural beauty.”
“...that’s everything! Let’s go help Sienna.” You both head to the kitchen, a mouthwatering smell wafting from it. After an hour full of prepping, the doorbell rings. You open it and a tiny but strong force collides with your legs. You look up to see Aly standing there, behind her Ines and Kyra.
“Aunt Arielle! Hi!!!”, she adorably says making everything laugh. You scoop her up into your arms and give her a kiss on the cheek.
“Hey Aly!” She gives you a hug.
“Long time no see, Dr. Valentine.” You smile as you lead them inside. “Nice place.”, Aly says.
“Hey, Doc. You never told me you were famous, I mean the Alyssa Raines is your sister-in-law!” You all laugh.
“Well maybe I could have if you had stopped teasing me.”, you counter.
“Hey Arielle, are you feeling better now?”, Ines asks.
“I told you already that day itself, I’m fine. But thank you for asking!” You introduce everyone to everyone and lead them inside.
“Here Ari. I brought the robes you asked for.” Aly hands everyone the robes and everyone gets dressed.
You notice Jackie tense up when Belle walks near her. “She’s really sweet, Jackie. Just talk to her.”
“Hi! What’s your name?”, Belle asks.
“Jackie.”
“Ooh! That’s a really cool name.” You see Jackie’s eyes flash with surprise as she starts to warm up to her.
“So, why didn’t you get dressed like everyone else?”, Belle asks.
“Because I don’t like to wear them.”
“Aw! Why not! You would look really pretty! But you would look pretty in anything, like my mom and aunt.”, Belle responds. You see Jackie laugh as she leaves to go get changed. Soon everyone is changed and sitting on the makeshift area.
“Okay! Let’s get started! First, get into pairs.”, you say. Kyra picks you, as Aly and Jackie pair up. Sienna and Ines also pair up.
“I’ll help everyone with whatwever they need! Mommy has one, I forgot what they’re called.”, Belle says as you all laugh.
“They’re called an assistant, Belle.”
“As-ashis-...I’ll just help!”, Belle says as you all burst into laughter, again.
“She’s adorable Alyssa! How old is she?”, Ines asks.
“She turned 5 a few months ago. Although sometimes she can act like she’s much older, sometimes.”, Aly replies.
“Okay! We’ll start with hair, taking turns and later rinsing it off in the tub. Okay, so what kind of mask do you all want?”, you ask. After a short discussion, they each decide on a hair mask. You grab the bottle of your coconut hair mask for hydration for you & Kyra, a hibiscus one for hair fall for Si and Ines, and an almond and vitamin E for shine for Jackie and Aly. Everyone settles down and starts.
“You sure know a lot about this stuff.”, Kyra says as you massage the mask into her hair, placing a towel on her neck.
“It’s an interest of mine.”
“Well, if the doctor thing doesn’t work out, you can always turn into a spa worker. Although I’d have to find you a new nickname.”, she says.
“What nickname?”, you turn to see Jackie, Aly massaging her scalp.
“The female version of McDreamy!”, Kyra says. They all burst into giggles.
“Let’s play some music!”, Belle says.
“Great idea, Belle! Can you play some songs from my phone?” She unlocks your phone and plays the playlist you tell her to.
“Ines, there’s a speaker right beside you. Can you turn it on?” She turns it on and music starts blasting. Everyone starts singing but you keep quiet.
“Aunt Arielle, why aren’t you singing?”, Belle asks.
“That’s cause if she sings, we’ll all sounds like giraffes. No offence.”, Jackie says.
“Really, I’ve never heard you sing. If you can sing that well, then I’m making you sing one of Ariana’s songs.” She changes the song to “One Last Time” by Ariana Grande.
You start belting out the first few lines, as others start to join in. By the time you’re finished with the song, your voice is winded.”
“Damn girl, you’ve got pipes!”, Kyra says.
“Why, thank you.”, you say. All of you sing together as you finish up each other’s masks. “Is everyone done?” They all nod.
“Okay, now Jackie and Sienna, go to your bathtubs and fill them up with cold water. Then wash them with the shampoo and conditioner I’m giving you. Whoever did their mask first, wash your hair first.” You hand out all the respective soaps and towels to everyone, then lead Kyra to yours.
You plug the bathtub then turn on the water.
“Okay, So lean your head back after sitting on the stool.” She does as you say.
“So, I guess you’ve been doing this for a long time. I mean like taking care of your hair and skin.”
You nod. “I have. It’s something that my godfather taught me. My hair was always really long and thick, and I always loved taking care of it. Especially when I hit that teenage age, the tips he gave me are still so useful.”
“Oh! I remember when I hit mine, it was horrible. Braces, acne...”, she shudders.
You laugh, “Well look at you now. All done!”, you ring out her hair carefully and wrap it in a towel.
“Okay, now you sit down.” You sit down and flip your hair. She starts massaging and pouring water, cleansing your hair.
“Mmm...That feels good.”
“Your hair is so long! How do you even maintain it! I tried but my hair ended up looking like a bush by the time it got longer than my shoulders!”
“I’ve trained and took care of it from a very young age. My mother died when I was a baby, and my father always said that I always had my mother’s hair. I don’t know, it just feels right...like I’m making her proud when I do something for my hair or skin. I know that sounds silly.”
“It isn’t, it’s quite sweet. But it’s hard not having a mother.”
“It is. But luckily I was fortunate enough to have other amazing people in my life.” She wraps your head in a towel and you both head out to your room where you find the rest of the girls.
“All done?”, Si asks.
“Yep! Now it’s time for facials!” All of you spend hours pampering yourself, occasionally snacking and having a few flutes of champagne, giving Belle lemonade. By the time you’re all done with your facials, hair, nails... it’s around 8.
“Wait! I want to take a picture! Everyone pose!!” Everyone poses on your bed as Belle clicks a photo. You post it.
Tumblr media
“I had so much fun! We should do this again sometime.”, Ines says. “Definitely! Next time, you’re all invited to my house.”, Aly says as Bella yawns. “Looks like someone’s sleepy.”
“Well I’m not! Does anyone have any plans for tonight?”, Jackie asks. Everyone shakes their head.
“Oh! What do you guys think of going out, to a club?!”, Kyra says. Everyone nods in agreement.
“I don’t know...I need someone to watch Belle..”, Aly says.
“I have the perfect person to watch Belle. Can you guys start cleaning this up?” You lead Aly outside.
“We’ll drop her later at Naveen’s.” You remember Ethan saying that he takes Naveen home to his apartment after his last shift.
“You two reconciled!? I’m so happy for you two! Finally, my favourite father-daughter duo is back together!” You laugh, careful not to spill anything about Naveen’s condition. “We did.” You enter your room. “Okay, that’s sorted out!”
“I didn’t bring anything to wear!”, Kyra exclaims.
“Neither did I!”, Ines agrees.
“Calm down! I’m right here and you people are worrying about club outfits! Hmm...what do guys say to a quick trip to one of Flair’s stores here? We’ll all pick out an outfit and I’ll get one of the stylists to do our makeup!”, Aly says as everyone cheers.
“Woo! Girls’ night, Girls’ night, Girls’ night!”, Sienna chants as everyone joins in.
“Okay! Let’s go!” After taking a cab to one of Flair’s branches, you all enter the huge ritzy store, Aly staying behind for a phone call.
“Arielle, what a pleasant surprise! Are you hear to model the new autumn lingerie collection?”, Sophie, Aly’s assistant and one of your friends.
“Not today, but I might come in later when I have time. So, my friends and I are hitting the town and we need the sexiest outfits! Aly’ll be here in a sec.”
“Awesome! I’ll go get everyone a stylist and you know about Flair’s collections so you tell the stylists for what line to look in.” She calls a bunch of stylists. You direct one for each person, “Okay, for Sienna, Ines and Kyra, the Sweet but Sexy line. Then for Jackie, Leather & Lace. For me...surprise me, Sophie. You know my style better than me.” Everyone heads off in different directions as Aly comes in with Belle.
“Let me guess, Ari wants you to pick her outfit?” All three of you laugh. “Okay, I’ll go find something. Belle, will you help me?”
“Ooh! Yeah, mommy! Aunt Arielle, wait for me, I want to pick your outfit too!” She skips off, Aly following her. “Okay, I might have just the thing for you.” Sophie leads me to a dressing room and tells me to wait there. You’re scrolling through your messages when your phone chimes with a new one from Naveen.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sophie knocks and hands the dresses to you. You put them aside and reply. After texting, you quickly eye the dresses and try them on. After much deliberation, you pick two same dresses of different colours. “Ughh! I can’t decide!” Suddenly the door whips open, revealing Belle.
“I helped mommy pick out an outfit! Do you want any help?!”
You hold up the velvet dresses, one in baby pink and the other in wine red. “Which one is better, Amorina?”
“Uh...I like the red one cause you can wear matching red lipstick with it! You look really pwetty with red lipstick!”, she replies.
“Then, red it is! Can you wait outside for a minute?” She goes outside and you slip on the dress and half-coverage bra that Sophie gave you. Stepping outside, you ask her what she thinks.
“You look preeeeety!” You giggle.
“I’ll go do my makeup and then I’ll go drop you off. Guess who’s babysitting you?”, you ask. She shrugs.
“Grandpa Naveen is.” She cheers. “Now, do you want to help me in choosing some accessories?” She nods and runs off. “She has sooo much energy. I wish I had the energy of a 5 year old. My shifts would be much easier!”, you think as so run after her. You find Si and Ines standing there. “Hey!”
“You look beautiful!”, Ines exclaims. Si agrees.
“Thank you!” Just then Belle runs with something in her hand and hands it to you. It’s a gold, multi-layer body chain. “You really are your mother’s daughter! It’s beautiful!”
“Yay! Try it on, try it on!”, she exclaims. Si steps forward and helps you with the chain, securing it in place. You look in the mirror, it looks amazing.
“Ari, give me your phone!”, Si says.
“Why?”
“Cause you look really sexy right now and I’m not letting this photo op go to waste!” You laugh and give her your phone. She leads you to a plush white tufted bench and instructs you how to pose. “Okay, stay still and....Done!” She shows you the pic. “What do you think?”
“You took an amazing photo! I’ll post it.” You quickly post the sexy photo of yourself.
Tumblr media
Just then Jackie and Aly saunter in, both wearing Leather & Lace. “I knew you two would get along!”, you say.
“Okay, Arielle. We’ll do your hair and makeup first so you can drop Belle off. By the time you come back, everyone will be ready.” They all usher into a chair as Si starts with your hair and Aly with makeup. They show you the mirror.
“Wow...I look...beautiful!”, you say surprised. Your hair has been let down in thick curls, parted to the side and sprayed with sparkly hairspray. Your makeup is simple but elegant, until the bright red lip.
“You’ve always been pretty.”, Aly says.
“Okay, I’ll go drop Belle off!”
“Wait! What about your shoes, earrings and jacket?...”, Si exclaims. She runs off, returning with matching gold tipped red velvet stilettos, gold hoop earrings and a bunch of rings and necklaces. Expertly placing them, she shoos you away.
“I’ll get a jacket later, come on Belle!” She runs up and holds your hand as you walk to the car. You place her in the backseat, fastening her seatbelt and you slip in the driver’s seat. “Can we leave, Belle?”
“Yeah! But I want music! Can you play something from Frozen, please?!” You nod, playing a Frozen playlist from your phone and connect to the car. Both of you sing the whole 15 minutes of driving. Pulling up, you lead her to the top floor. “Which door?”
“1204.” She runs up and knocks on the door, Frozen style. It takes you a while to catch up, because of those heels.
“...Do you want to build a snowman?!”
Ethan’s PoV:-
Hearing knocking and singing, you open the door to find an adorable 5 year old with a huge smile on her face. “You must be Belle. Who brought you here?”
“Aunt Arielle did! Where’s grandpa?!”, she asks.
“I’m right here! Come here and give me a hug!”, Naveen says. You smile as the girl runs into your mentor’s arms.
“Hey...sorry if this was last minute. I do know a lot of other babysitters but Naveen hasn’t seen her in a while.” You look up to see Arielle, wearing a wine red short dress, her hair let down in spiraling curls and her perfect lips painted red, leaving you trying to tear your eyes away.
“It’s fine. Come in, Naveen would want to see you.” She removes her heels and steps in.
“Sunshine, what a lovely surprise! You look beautiful!”
“Thank you. Belle picked out this dress.” She turns to Belle. “Now, be a good girl for Grandpa and Ethan, okay?”
“Mhm. I will! Byeee!” She kisses her on the cheek and turns to Naveen.
“Have fun, and please don’t exert yourself too much.” She gives him a hug and turns to you, slipping her heels on. “Thank you so much for looking after her. She doesn’t have any allergies or restrictions so there shouldn’t be any problem. She also loves dogs!”....She hesitates. “I’ll see you later.”, she heads to her car and drives away.
“Hi!! What’s your name?”
“My name is Ethan Ramsey.”
“Ohh! Aunt Arielle says your name a lot! She says that you’re very smart! Are you her boyfriend?!” You almost choke at that last bit.
“That wouldn’t be appropriate.”, you respond.
“Why not?!”, Belle asks.
“Because, I’m your aunt’s boss.”
“Ohhh! So you’re Aunt Arielle’s husband! She never told me though!” Your face is now beet red.
“Now what makes you think that, Belle?”, Naveen asks. You glare at him but he cuts you off.
“Well mommy says daddy’s name a lot. She also says that he’s very very smart. When they both first met, daddy was mommy’s boss. And now he’s mommy’s husband so that’s why I asked.”, she innocently says. “But I still don’t think they’re married!”, she says.
“Well Belle, what makes you think they’re not married?”, he asks.
“Naveen!” He gestures you to be quiet.
“Well, Aunt Arielle doesn’t have a ring like mommy and she doesn’t live with Uncle Ethan either. Also, Aunt Arielle would never have her wedding without me! She says I’m her favourite person in the world.”
“I think you’ve met your match, Ethan! Look how smart she is!”, Naveen says with a huge grin on his face.
You roll your eyes. “Are you hungry?”
“Nope! Let’s play! Will you play with me please!?” She gives you the same eyes Arielle gives you when she’s asking for something.
“Alright, do you like dogs?” Her face lights up, you can’t but help thinking about a certain intern. “Damnit Ramsey! Snap out of it!”
“You have a dog?!!! Can I see!?”, she shrieks. You lead her to your bedroom, where Jenner is lazily napping.
“Hey boy! Look who’s here. You have a new friend!” He perks up and goes near Belle, they suddenly run out of the room chasing each other and in the process, knocking down one of your lamps.
Naveen laughs. “Looks like you’ve got your hands full! Let’s see if one of the world’s best diagnosticians can handle a 5 year old for a night!”
You sigh, knowing this is going to be a long night.

Baby Widow One
»———————————————————————«
Tumblr media
Natasha's trained eyes never leave you as you waddle around the living area. Your sweatpants ride low on your hips like every mother, in her last trimester, you feel heavy, sluggish and big.
Your due date is only two days away your stomach has dropped. Your hips, back and pelvis hurting more with each day and Braxton hicks are becoming a daily thing.
You hand Natasha her bowl of ice cream. The Avenger takes the bowl only to put it to the side, her hands landing on your hips. She draws circles with her thumbs and kissing your stomach.
She rest her forehead against you. Natasha could feel the gentle movements of the baby, and you comb your fingers through her hair.
"I love you and your mama more than anything in this whole world." She whispers, pressing another kiss to your stomach.
"And we love you." You slowly lower yourself into your spot. Looking at Natasha with a goofy grin on your face. You pull her into a passionate, loving kiss.
Natasha sits with the exercises ball under her legs. Getting her use out of it. Each day the two of you were trying to do something that you wouldn't be able to do as often as you would like once baby Romanoff gets here. Today was movie day.
"I'm going to miss having my own personal table." You say causing Natasha to shift her attention. Your bowel of ice cream sits on your baby bump.
She laughs, kissing your temple. "You'll have your personal table back one day."
You raise an eyebrow at her, trying your hardest not let the smile break out. "You mean..?"
"Baby one isn't even here yet, so don't go thinking of baby number two." She teases. Your smile broke free a giggle following shortly.
Your giggles were cut short when a sharp pain shot through your body. Letting out a noise of pain one hand holding on to your ice cream and the other on your stomach.
Natasha watches wide-eyed. Her heart in her throat, body tense and ready to pounce. "You okay?"
Your hair bounces as you nod. "Can you help me up?"
She doesn't need to be told twice. Natasha holds you as you try to keep your breathing steady.
"I need to move around..." you breathe slowly, "think it's just a Braxton thingy."
"Okay, do you want the ball?" She asks, her heart racing.
"Yeah. Please." You sigh softly swaying side to side.
Natasha slowly lets go of you and rolls the red excise ball over. She ushers warmly "come here."
Once you were sat and Natasha sits on the coffee table hands on top of you're thighs. One of your hands supports your stomach and the other lay on top of her hand.
Natasha goes through her mental checklist. The hospital bag is packed and ready by the front door. She remembers the birth plan and everything thing she's learnt in the past nine months.
Her thoughts must have reached her features because you give her hand a gentle squeeze. "Hey, we are more than prepared for Baby Romanoff. We'll be okay, you'll be okay." You say with a reassuring smile.
How the hell did she get so lucky?
Natasha lets out a small nervous laugh. "You're right."
"Aren't I always?"
"Don't get cocky." she teases kissing you.
You moved from couch, floor, ball and standing until you had eventually fallen asleep on the couch. Natasha had paused the movie and shifted to the dining table where she could get some work done. She'll rejoin you once you're awake.
You woke up an hour later with a dull pain ringing through your body. Not thinking much of it, you rub your eyes and sit up. Natasha still sits at the table busy with her work.
Make your way over to her the pain doesn't go it just lingers. She kisses you hello before asking. "How are you feeling?"
"The usual." You smile. "Do you want anything to drink?"
"I'm okay. I'll just finish this then we can continue the movie." She explains, turning her attention back to her laptop screen.
You hum out a yes and shuffle into the kitchen to make yourself a cup of tea. As you wait for the kettle to boil, you feel the pain growing, tightening.
You groan out hands massaging your stomach. Natasha's sharp hearing picks up on your discomfort.
"Hey, you okay?" she calls her voice full of concern.
You let out a shaky breath "Y-yeah just a little pain." The pain died down to a period cramp level pain.
You manage to make your tea and move out of the kitchen, but you were met with the intense stare from Natasha.
"What?" you question.
"You sure you're okay?" She fires back.
You cross over to her, her emotion written clearly on her face. "I'm sure. I'll let you know if I wasn't." You rub her shoulder affectionately "Shall we finish the move?"
You're grip on Natasha's shoulder tights as pain ignites every nerve in your body. "Shit..." you hiss out between clenched teeth.
"You're going to labour," Natasha states as she jumps to her feet. She checks the time 5:38 pm.
`"Movement and excises will help the baby move down." She says aloud for both of you. You nod your head as Natasha slowly walks you over to the ball.
Being who she is and what she does for a living. Natasha works well under pressure, and you were so lucky to have her.
6:20 pm
You've done several short sets of different positions on the ball. Natasha holds your hands as you rotate your hips. Your grip tightens on her hands you grunt in pain as a contraction hits.
"Breathe," Natasha says softly and checks her watch.
"Fuck!" You curse.
"Ten minutes apart and lasting for twenty seconds." She kisses you softly. "Do you want to have a warm shower?"
"Please." You say, your voice wobbles as a sob threatens to bubble up.
Natasha leads you to the bathroom, sitting you down she starts up the shower. She helps you out of your clothing.
Natasha doesn't need to be asked. She strips down and joins you.
She kisses the top of your head. You hug her tightly, the warm water numbing out some of the pain. "We going to have our baby girl in a few hours." You mumble against her skin.
A large smile settles on her face, "we certainly are." Natasha hooks a finger under your chin, lifting your head so she could kiss you. "You are absolutely gorgeous." And just like that, the spy had you blushing like a lovesick high schooler.
You giggle shyly, hiding your face in the crook of her neck. Natasha smirks at you, hands on your hips as she gently sways both of your bodies.
Natasha feels your body tense against hers. Pushing your full body weight onto her, you cry out in pain.
Natasha whispers words of encouragement, mentally counting the seconds that go by.
7:48 pm
Natasha had gotten you out of the shower. You're dressed in grey sweatpants and a black tank top. She's made sure you have eaten and that your water bottle is never less than half full.
Natasha also has been on and off the phone with your midwife, letting her know how your progressing.
Natasha sits next to you on the floor, rubbing you back as you cry. You're on your knees with your arms and chest resting on the ball.
"In and out, that's it." She coos softly eyes glued to her watch.
"It hurts!" You sniff, turning your head to look at her. "I knew it would hurt but fuck it hurts..."
Natasha wipes the tears from your cheek, kissing your nose then your lips. Your contractions are getting longer it wouldn't be too much longer till you have to go to the hospital.
8:15 pm
The hospital bag, car keys and shoes sit on the coffee table ready to go. You squeeze the plastic water bottle in your hand and try to breathe through the pain.
Your whole body feels as it's on fire. Pain and hot flushes have been drowning you for hours now. Natasha holds you tightly as you shake in her arms. You have found comfort in semi-sitting and squatting positions.
Your contractions are now 4 minutes apart and lasting for 55 seconds. Active labour, it's time for the hospital.
4:02 am
After 9 hours of labour Widow Ellie Romanoff was brought in the world at 2:38 am. Natasha held herself together through labour and delivery. It wasn't until the nurses had left your little family be that Natasha let the first tear roll down her cheek.
She sat in the stiff hospital chair her daughter cradled in her arms. The scene made you cry. It's rare to see Natasha cry. Happy or sad tears seeing her cry always made you cry.
"Hey, hey. You've cried enough today." Natasha teases with a light sniff.
"Oh, shush." With the back of your hand you wipe away the stray tears.
Natasha leans over, kissing your cheek. “I love you.”
“I love you too.”
