Until the 1980s, the Batman comics generally presumed that as an adult, Dick Grayson would either eventually succeed Bruce Wayne as Batman or remain Robin indefinitely; the idea that he might permanently adopt a third identity hadn't yet been suggested. This Imaginary Story, set maybe 20 years in the future, shows the older Robin of Earth-1 having adopted the Neal Adams-designed costume first seen in JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #92 back in 1971, which had already been adopted by the Earth-2 Robin in 1976.
