Note
I’ve never had so many thoughts about things until I’m scrolling through peoples opinions.
While I understand how sucky it is as a non female person with a non heterosexual relationship in self shipping, if you are not in the majority you will have to write your own. This just works even for females in a hetero relationship with minor or less popular characters. But it could be the fan base you’re in, such as joseimuke or otome is geared towards females with heterosexual relationships, and these complaints tend to be insulting to the majority as it is their space. Or the fan base is small or dead, sometimes that can be a huge problem for any fan. I have bl, gl, and hetero ships so literally, I know. That doesn’t mean I agree with the whining.
People shouldn’t feel ashamed to enjoy content in a healthy way because the character is the villain, the interest is unpopular, because of a dozen reasons. Nor should they be harassed. Self shippers shouldn’t accuse others of stealing lis. If you dislike anyone for the above, the block list is a thing. I can go on further, but I’m in favor of people being able to express themselves fully. I’d rather be able to navigate away from people who have content I dislike than never know because they use stupid terms to have a continuous fight over it. Just block people and get a fucking grip at this point. Every time I look at the comments, it’s the same shit I read from the anti-kink rhetoric on total nsfw blogs. “Do you tell normal people that.” Why are we discussing kinks like that’s a normal conversation? Jfc, get a damn grip you’re just as annoying.
I’m all for people enjoying themselves and self shipping, but some of you just come off as delusional and that’s not a compliment. Delusional as in please seek professional help because the internet is clearly not a safe environment for you.

Thoughts on topic of this post
Here is my thoughts on this:
Male focus games or "Male gaze" game didn't need to add male characters in their games cause there is a genre for that. BL game. So why added a female character in the game when people came for the male characters.
There was already big discussion on the option for male MC, Which you already know that it was dialog change but nothing more.
WHB is a Otome game. Targeting Female players.
Plus, people came to the game for male demons, Paimon and others will be label as Femboys, which is a very popular archetype in female games.
So Players, who are their target audiences "Female" players came to the game for male characters.
Imagine that BL added a female in the game, it would not end well.
Plus this is a game that is 18+, where you have the male characters gag and bound. Hell, you step on their dicks, spit on them, and with the angels.... Non/Dub-con elements, you honest think that people would be okay doing that to the female devils?
Most culture with people (Yes, there are shitty people, but they ain't playing an otome game with demons) don't like hurting women.
If they did add women, then this game will be label as the same as male gaze games too. Cause it would put female characters in the same position as their male characters.
Azure Lane is one example.
I agree with the OG poster, that this would just invite Controversy.
There is a reason why there is different genre in games.
Added note, it's no secret that the BL/Yaoi are popular with more of the female players, while GL/Yuri content are popular with male anime fans.
Tumblr media
Yuri Vs Yaoi: Which Genre Is The MOST Popular?
If they'll argue that Yuri can sale, I'm sad to say it isn't as unprofitable. Thus, it's hard to find GL/Yuri content.
Oh they're out there, but you really have to find them. Not to mention, when they do make Yuri/GL it isn't as raw and brutal as Yaoi/BL.
Also, there will be people who would call out Yuri/GL that treats their characters as their Yaoi/BL counterpart. Labeling it as sexist, male gaze and violent against women.
*Turning off reblogs cause I don't want people taking me out of context and label be as sexist or misandrist for pointing the reasoning that this would be a bad idea.*

Somebody replied this on my post shitting on yume being majority homophobic (which is true btw)
>kenapa bawa yumejo non-otome ke diskurs yumejo otome
Because i see the same shit your ilk does, possessive & harassing orang aseli over 2D husbando lol.
So what if there's more BL/GL yumeship? As if it's disminish the homophobic sentiment that prevalent in yumejo community, lmao.
Like Fujoshi community has a lot of queer and being more queer firendly in recent years, yet still doesn't erase there's homophobic fujos out there. So what makes yume exempt for this? Why are YOU so SALTY, people rightfully calling out most yumejo are homophobic? When a lot of people callout fujos for that? You think I don't know abt it?
dari jaman mystic messenger, kurobas, haikyuu, touken ranbu, dkk itu komplotan kalian itu kagak ada perubahan sama sekali. makanya jangan cuman di space sendiri doang. liat tuh di umum byk yume yg seenaknya bully artist BL gegara chara cowo fav mereka dihomoin dan bahkan ngeharass bbrp yumeship BL LOL.
copy paste komen temen : ''it's so crazy to me how literally ppl kept hating on fujos like we're still in the 2000s when fujos have been progressing Way better than any fan types in fandom spaces and yumefans out here Still getting uncomfy/hate bl/gl yumes lol''
I will say this again , people are so focused to hating on fujoshi like they're Agent of Homophobia in fandom but ignoring how a lot Yumejoshi (esp straight yumes) keeping the homophobia sentiment in their space and how it was fucking normalized there. Meanwhile, Fujoshi has been very queer-friendly in recent years & there's a lot of openly queer fujos out there being comfortable with their identity.
If anyone doesn't know the contcontext, ext it's from LaDS drama, usual lads yume sending death threat and homophobic comment toward BL shippers.
In my time as otaku and has been in fandom space for more than a decade, I've experienced more homophobia & misogyny within yume spaces more than fujo space lol.
Yumejos can be as deranged and misogynistic like their male waifu-loving incel counterpart.
call me when Fujos once try to jail actual gay people or author over gay fanfic.

Replaying DMMd and realizing I don't like the sex scenes. At all. It's not like I'm generally turned away by erotic content. But how it works in most visual novels...just no.
It's hard to explain, I guess it mainly comes from most VNs with romance elements in them (het otome, bl, gl sometimes too) being targeted at straight women and not queers or both audiences combined, so some amount of heteronormativity will leak into it inevitably. Dynamics that can be called heteronormative aren't bad on their own, it's the lack of alternatives I guess. The dynamic between characters can be really nice and really give you plenty of space to interpret their relationship any way you like, with few occasional stereotypes and forced gender roles moments throughout the route, but then endings and steamy scenes happen and it's just slapped right into your face.
Maybe it also just doesn't resonate with me on a personal level, because the VN narrative goes as far as possible to make you associate and identify with the main character, and the way I experience attraction (like once in a millenium) is the exact opposite of all the emotional reactions and behavior models the writers give to the focal characters in romance. Dunno. I'm not the target audience, so it's not surprising, but I'm sure there are people in the target audience who would also like to see some out-of-the-overused-trope dynamic. A bl main character who isn't shorter and frailer than the LI's, who isn't a sub bottom in every single route and compared to a woman at least at one point of the plot. A female protag who isn't a damsel in distress most of the time and who doesn't look like a kid compared to her love interests who are the same age as her. There are examples that fall out from these 'tropes', but it's still a rare thing.
I guess I'm just eating a cactus here, but I really enjoy the plot in most cases, while skipping the romance and NSFW scenes. The art is nice, so is the acting, but no thanks.

I personally don’t think that a lot of women play eroge games aimed at male gamer demographic (bishoujo game), but I think that a lot of queer people can find those games, regardless of whom they’re aimed at, attractive (not to mention that there are also specifically yaoi/bl and yuri/gl games as well in Japan). Like for example if you are a lesbian and want to play a more mature game in which you date and have sex with girls, or when you are trans and put yourself in the shoes of the character to play as yourself (though this one applies to most games, not only eroge). And I wholeheartedly agree with the message that your gender doesn’t matter in case of things you like.
Despite what demographic the medium is aimed for, the actual demographic can be vastly different from what industry prefers to think it is. For example, let’s look at shounen which is basically “media for boys ages 12-18″, but 50% of the actual demographic of shounen are girls ages 12-18. On top of that also adult men and women for whom anime industry created separate demographic and media called josei and seinen, do enjoy those stories “for kids” a lot, so they’re included in those demographic numbers as well. In the end, what person you aim your medium at doesn’t matter when real consumption of the medium is involved. Gender & age don’t matter.
Japanese (Korean too) game industry is sadly so fixated on those genres that it is rare to see elements out of certain genre in other games, and when they appear, they’re not important enough and badly made. Example: wlw romances in otome games are few and far between and often feel like queerbaiting with 0 actual impact on the story of your character and their life in the game. Which: sad.
So much lost potential due to those stupid boxes.
I like this anime more than I thought I will.
Boys can like dolls! And shoujo stuff!
Wohoo! TELL THEM!

ourlife let’s play? and other stuff
If you’re wondering where my our life, let’s play went. I decided to hold off until step 4 is officially out and replay the whole thing. Possibility on YouTube and everything.  I am a Patreon of GBpatch  at the top tier, which means I get  a beta build each month of fresh content.
I know we are all waiting with baited breath for step 4, but I actually have played a bit of it.  It would feel really weird to go back to my Steam version and play a let’splay of that when I have a more complete game that I can’t share with anyone.
so, when step 4 is out (and hopefully soon after the wedding dlc) my Verly Quinn will once again visit Sunset Bird.
In other news I have created  three different Quinn Hollands.  a female,  a male and one that goes by they.  they are are all pansexual/panromantic
I even used a simple online avatar maker to show what they look like. :)  you can find it right here
These three will be used in various visual novels going forward whatever category they belong in be it, Otome, gl, bl, and the newest term amare. I just want to do what I have always done privately, which is play a game to it’s fullest using all of it’s features including it’s gender and romantic diversity if it’s included. I’ve done the same thing with games like the Dragon age series and Mass Effect. those two were not even private. any long term followers on this blog know how many playthroughs I had of the various bioware games and how many romances I went through. :D.
Quinn Holland.(female)  total flirt. don’t let the glasses fool you, she has a bold personality, and a snarky wit. ;D   she was telling kids in elementary school that she was going to be the CEO of her own business. if the game lets me this is what she will look like. if not. her name is *still* Quinn Holland and don’t forget it. ;) gamer nerd, also knits.
Tumblr media
Quinn Holland (male)    My male Quinn is the opposite of my female Quinn as he is blushy shy, but has the same snarky wit.  He WILL get flustered if you flirt with him, but will also not back down from a challenge.  (no weird split personality- I promise!  he’s not 7, I made this dude back in the late 80′s.)  book nerd
Tumblr media
Quinn Holland (they/them)
Tumblr media
they spark joy among their friends, are into random hobbies that grab their attention for the moment until something else does. In doing so they’ve racked up a number of skills but have never really settled on a solid career goal. They have the same snarky wit (this is a Quinn Holland thing) pretty easy going with the flirting 😏 they are more likely to jokingly flirt at first to feel things out.  book and gamer nerd
I’ve mentioned before on my blog that Quinn is the name that I’ve used for games since I was a teen in the late 80′s early 90′s when I wanted a gender neutral name that worked for any character I played on the consoles growing up. Whenever my brothers would buy an action heavy game they knew it was my save because the character's name was Quinn no matter if the game main character was masc or fem.  It was much harder back then to find games with a fem main lead.
that’s why I love what’s been happening in games.. Visual novels to be honest recently.   There has been so much more diversity and it’s so damn nice to see.  Recently there is a new label for these diverse games Amare and I love it.
I’ve realized that most of the games I’ve loved in the past several years would probably fit under this label. I love my traditional Otome games and that’s never going to stop. I also love playing my bl games as well because love is love and I’m all for it.
Being a demisexual, playing romance led game just hits different for me. I get no rush of sexual excitement from any of these games so I don’t, like,  fedishize any kind of relationship straight or same sex.  What I do feel is a wholesomeness of couples finding each other, or threesomes in some cases (ex. When the night comes. ;) ) what I find in these games is the truth in reality that love is love and people are people and everyone has the same right to be their own person and to find love.

@tomochxnEnstars is the first 'otome' game that made me relate so much to the main character [subaru] , and actually feels his pain for always being alone. Trickstar is not even my favorite, but their story always has a special place in my heart. Also , enstars is the first fandom that I actually can ship BL ships. I usually like GL more than BL , and i dont really have BL ships that i really like?? But enstars made me ship everybody xD

I'm someone who agrees with your opinion on yoi completely! A lot of my friends are big fans so I don't really have anyone to discuss my issues of representation with seriously, so I'm happy to have found your blog!!! Also, what are your opinions on Flip Flappers and their LGBT representation?
Hello! Sorry for the late reply, wanted to finish watching Flip Flappers before I answered your ask ;) also I’m glad you’re enjoying my blog and yoi criticism posts!
I’m not 100% sure what you mean by your question though. Are you asking whether I think Flip Flappers is LGBT rep? Or are you asking about how I think Flip Flappers depicts Papika/Cocona’s relationship?
If its the former, I’ve talked about how anime is a gray area when it comes to lgbt representation. Particularly shinya anime. It’s just not on the same scale as tv dramas or mainstream movies or books (that are not marketed as BL or GL). So while there are probably Japanese wlws who love Cocona and Papika’s story to most Japanese ppl it just doesn’t really “register” as LGBT representation, y'know? Especially since Yuri at this point is a well-established genre.
You can kind of see that in this interview with the Flip Flappers Director, Oshiyama Kiyotaka (https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/comments/5m1p17/an_interview_with_flip_flappers_director_kiyotaka/) Note the way he talks about yuri, as something “viewers nowadays find easy to hook into” with its own rules and conventions that one shouldn’t break.
If it’s the latter that you’re asking about however, I can talk about Papika/Cocona and yuri references. I recommend that you first read a post I made on yuri media recently, including the article that I link to in that post.
Post: ( http://saotome-michi.tumblr.com/post/157599879119/i-got-these-two-similar-asks-so-i-thought-id)
Finished reading? Cool, let’s move on to Flip Flappers.
(SPOILERS!!!)
Flip Flappers is a moe anime with really obvious yuri themes and references for yuri fans. The setting has no boys who are Cocona’s age and few important male characters, and the Papika/Cocona relationship is sprinkled with romantic undertones.
The main theme in the anime is Cocona’s fear of making her own decisions and failing. For example, Episode 3 with the desert land has Cocona running into a goddess(?) who just oozes the ero sadomasochist yuri archetype. Her interactions with Cocona warn us of Cocona’s desire to submit. Not sexually, but just submit in every way possible by letting someone else take the reins and make the decisions for her, which foreshadows what Mimi does towards the end of the series. Similarly, Episode 5, which is chock full of Class S Yuri references, from the all girls school to the constant lily imagery, has Cocona and Papika fall into a loop where they become passive participants in the dimension.
Ep 7 is the fan-favorite episode for Papika/Cocona. I’ve seen meta posts here on tumblr saying that its about Cocona struggling to leave the closet which was ?? to me tbh. I can understand why people interpret it that way, but to me this episode was strictly about Cocona’s lack of confidence in herself and her relationship with Papika, placed in the format of a dating sim/otome game. At the beginning of the episode, Cocona is scared that her actions in PI have caused Iroha senpai to change. This causes her to lack faith in herself and Cocona, which is why the PI in this episode is a world that doesn’t change, where Cocona and the different Papikas can do whatever without fearing the consequences of their actions. However, after spending time with the different Papikas, Cocona realizes that such a world is not worth it. She’d rather stride forward, knowing Papika will always catch her, and live with the consequences.
Sidenote: You know that nail clippers scene in ep 7 that ppl on reddit/tumblr were saying was a sign of lesbianism? I actually thought of the Japanese horror legend thing that goes “Don’t cut your nails at night otherwise your parents will die and you’ll never see them again” especially with the creepy Papika in the scene (btw this legend freaked me out as a kid I never clipped my nails at night) Thought it was a hint that Salt was Cocona’s dad. But as it turns out, they literally just put the nail clippers there for fun lmao. No deep meaning to it at all, they just brainstormed what could be in the desk and someone suggested nail clippers and that was apparently the most interesting idea they had. Source: https://mobile.twitter.com/315ByFFK/status/819949388134957060
I’m not denying that a part of Cocona’s journey is acknowledging her ~sexuality~ but I disagree with those who focus solely on that. On a more basic level it’s about Cocona finding the courage to make her own decisions and Papika helping her do that, by assuring her she’s not alone and by pointing out the ways their world is fun. Hence why the PI at the very end of ep 13 is a dull, drab world- because Cocona thinks that its a world without Papika.
But now that I’ve finally finished Flip Flappers I’m wondering if there’s PapiCoco fic that actually acknowledges that Papika is mentally around 18 years older than Cocona and is besties with her parents. Where is that fic, I would like to read it.
