So I know you said the point of Simons character is that he NEVER lets us out of the basement buuut what if we reason with him?? Like every human needs fresh air right? What if we start getting really really sobby and crying and staying stuff like ”Im rotting away in here” while clinging to him and looking so so sad???

maybe just a few minutes outside every once in a while, pretty please Simon???

poor thing. he'd expect them to react that way, and it breaks his heart to see them soooo sad 💔 but unfortunately no amount of reasoning will make them change their mind. simon is scared to even put his hand on the doorknob most days, so the thought of just let darling outside ?????? even for a few minutes ??? is so scary. and what if they take it as a chance to run away? no no, no, it's wayyyyyy too dangerous. no.

if darling does this, simon is going to frown and run his hand over their hair with one hand, cradle their face in the other. they'll pull darling close and rock them a little, promising that it'll be okay. he'll bring something to help, okay? they'll install a tv that plays the weather outside on the screen, and he can get a sunrise lamp, and they can take pictures for them! but they can't let darling go outside :(
