i have this pet peeve where city folk, who’ve literally never lived in rural communities ever in their entire lives try to tell us what we’re doing to keep our ranches successful is bad, actually.
like the idiots who insist that all outdoor cats are actually being abused? like have you ever MET a shop/barn cat??? those mfers will NOT live as a housecat. like yeah sure they’ll come say hi and want pets, but they will absolutely fuckin bite you if forced to be indoor cats. they’re not housepets!!! like animal rescues will adopt out barn cats because the cat in question doesn’t wanna be fucked with and will smack tf outta u if u try!!
god or all the ppl who freak out when they realize we put down horses with broken legs. like no, jennifer, we’re not too lazy to heal this incredibly expensive animal thats worth our life savings, this horse is going to die anyway and we’re not fucking sadists who are gonna sit here and try to force this wild animal to suffer so we can feel good about ourselves.
or the fuckin vegans who watch one animal rights documentary and assume they know everything there is to know about ranching? i’ve literally seen these mfers go up and harass local ranchers because apparently milking your cows is animal abuse or some shit. like i get it, you wanna seem righteous, but how don’t you understand the difference between commercial farmers and like,,, some guy who’s got a couple cows.
like… ya’ll do realize that local ranchers aren’t the devil right? we dont wake up at fucking four in the morning and invest hundreds of thousands of dollars for our livestocks comfort and safety just to make them suffer. even if we do butcher our herd, its never more than what the family needs, and its always done humanely. often times its done because ranchers are actually Super! Uncomfortable! with the conditions of commercial ranches and their treatment of their livestock, so owning your own herd is a way to disengage.
idk, just stay out of rural ppls business. like if you’ve never helped your family with baling hay at 4am and gotten such a miserable case of hay fever after you look like you have goddamn chicken pox, i absolutely do not fucking care about what you have to say about ranching. if your mother didn’t wake you up yellin that you aint eating until those damn cows are fed, fat, and happy i do not fuckin care about what you have to say about animal husbandry. because you’re not actually like,,, helping the imaginary abused animals you think we own, and really you’re just being ignorant, rude, and honestly probably a little classist too.
want to be an activist? do better.
