hahaha so I was the one who asked for the brushes on anon and omfg you are amazing!! IT'S SO CUTE AND INFORMATIVE AT THE SAME TIME ARRHH THANK YOU!!!
oh my goodness this is such a late reply!! i’m not used to getting questions about anything art related (aside from the “how do you art” joke questions) so i didn’t really know what to say for the longest time. but! i will do my best to share some things that i personally have learned! keep in mind, i’m not a professional, so some tips can be kinda bad but i try my best!!
these will be for sai, as that is what i primarily use. if anyone wants me to give tips for other programs (firealpaca, or photoshop, i don’t use any others! sorry!) then feel free to ask me anything!
alright, let’s get on with it, shall we?
1. stabilizer
okay, i think there’s a lot of people who talk about it, but, i’ll do it anyways
Tumblr media
this is the stabilizer, a handy-dandy thing that has saved me more times than i’d like to admit! i have a very shaky hand, so i need it at a pretty high number.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i have st: 0 when drawing things i want to look scratchy, uneven, maybe even malicious (or when i want to draw like a child tbh)
meanwhile, i use s-7 for the complete opposite. i use it for smooth curves, soft things, generally circles tbh. you can’t draw quickly with s-7 though, so, only use that one if youre not me patient (or a lower one if youre too fast)
2. canvas
this is mostly gonna be a small message but, have a big canvas. like, not one that’s of ridiculous size (unless you want a 6000x5000 pixel canvas, u do u) but big enough so when you post it, it doesn’t look like this:
Tumblr media
do you see what i mean? it looks pixel-y, and kinda ehhhh. but if you do it on a bigger canvas?
Tumblr media
the lines are smoother! and that’s Hella Good 👌
the only time i can imagine having a smaller canvas being good is if youre making pixelart, honestly. or if your computer sucks and cant handle an overly big canvas.
3. colours
okay i can’t give you a big lection on color theory, and how to use colors well in your art, but i will link you to this fine video all about it (or if you prefer something a lil more simple and silly, here’s another video that lets you access skillshare for free!)
4. practice! makes! perfect!
i KNOOOWW everyone says this. “how do you draw?” “i practice!” but literally,, that’s. the most important tip anyone can give you. keep drawing. you draw something shitty? thats good! keep going! hell, spend more time drawing bad things than time stressing over doing good art. honestly, the stress isnt worth it. that stress is just some bully trying to peer pressure you into not doing what you enjoy. are you gonna let the bully win? (spoilers: no youre not.) so keep going!! fight your canvas! splosh digital paint all over your digital board!!! GO WILD!!!!!!! .......but, also try to take inspiration from real life when possible. learn anatomy. practice drawing a landscape. just don’t become trapped in the idea of realism (unless you want to draw realism, in which, heck! draw realism!!)
and that’s it! its all pretty generic but thats what i got! if you have more specific asks then please ask away
