I think it would really benefit people to internalize that mental illnesses are often chronic and not acute. Some of us will never be able to jump the hurdle of managing illness, much less sustaining a sense of normalcy. Many of us will never "recover," will never manage symptoms, will never even come close to appearing normal - and this is for any condition, even the ones labeled as "simple" disorders or "easy-to-manage" disorders.
It isn't a failure if you cannot manage your symptoms. It isn't a moral failure, and you aren't an awful person. You are human. There's only so much you can do before recognizing that you cannot lift the world. Give yourself the space to be ill because, functionally, you are.

abusers when they're cruel and unjust to you: well Life Isn't Fair, you better get used to it! You better learn how to deal with it sooner than later!
abusers when life is even slightly unfair to them: throw blame left and right, demand for everyone to go above and beyond to get them Justice and Fairness, claim themselves the Biggest Victim of the Entire World, never let it go, take it out on everyone else, never attempts to find a way to deal with it

One of my favorite things about Megumi is that he isn't like, your traditional tsundere, in that he's not too proud to give Itadori praise or express care for him.
Instead he puts distance between his feelings for Itadori and himself by either being really blunt and pretending what he is saying isn't a big deal (personal feelings, itadori would win, i don't want to lose anymore...even with the start saving him itadori he kept the same expression as always) or being aggressive about it (if you die I'll kill you or the fights they had because Megumi didn't want to separate).
Like, it's almost like Megumi isn't trying to hide his feelings from other people, but from himself almost. Not in the sense that i think he doesn't know about his feelings for Yuuji (because that would be some next level denial), but because he is afraid of being completely honest and vulnerable with himself (and Yuuji) like that, you know? Idk if I'm expressing myself right.
It's like...Megumi is an intense guy, and even though he admits he is selfish and he doesn't seem to be in denial about caring about Yuuji, it's like he doesn't want to dwell in how much he cares, because he is afraid of admitting to himself that he wants something.
Because Megumi is afraid of wanting, afraid of admitting to himself that he's not as complacent about his life as he'd like to think.

I read The $12 Million Stuffed Shark: The Curious Economics of Contemporary Art by Don Thompson a couple of weeks ago, and it reminded me of this part of the Undergallery. I was already pretty sure it was a reference to the Hirst-branded formaldehyde shark, but now I'm sure-sure.
We already know that the theme of the Undergallery is "death and decay", and so is a lot of work that Hirst commissions everyone else to do for him. Now, the full title of the shark installation is the interesting part: The Physical Impossibility of Death in the Mind of Someone Living. I don't think I need to do much explaining of how it ties into CO's themes, as Sherlock is surrounded by death in both his personal life and just by... being a detective. And how people that he's lost continue to live on because he lives on.
What I love about the game's portrayal of the shark is how it criticises the original work: the first shark rotted away. So Hirst asked for like 4 more sharks. The person who caught them sent an extra shark for free. They were alive when they were sent. So his team replaced the original one, and also made another shark "art" in a pissing contest with some other dude who also made stuffed shark "art".
That is at least six sharks killed in the name of "art".
Fuck, I hate Damien Hirst so much.
Frogwares was right to call it an attempt at provocation, and reference the original shark that escaped its formaldehyde prison and decayed as all things eventually should.

given that seems to be the new popular take in the fandom at large since totk got out: let the record show that I'll gladly let myself get repeatedly manipulated by the wind waker speech and be foolishly moved by its implications over rejecting space for humanity and vulnerability in the monstrous and the dispossessed, and then feeling weirdly smug about severing that fleeting attempt at connection and deem it obviously insincere

i’m. Still so fucking pissed that mclaren won in baku. i wish they’d take this month-long break as time to bring this up more seriously because so many teams could benefit from their rightful disqualification.
Yeah, I feel like since it's a part where it's very easy to see which races it affected then it should be pretty easy to DSQ those results. It was deemed to provide an unfair advantage. But they get to keep the points and results they got with it?
And yes, it is an illegal rear wing. Passing the tests doesn't mean the part is in compliance with the rules as written, it just means the testing to enforce the rules is flawed. And even with the testing issue it was still deemed illegal. So it's pretty cut and dry at this point.
To me the fair thing would be to either DSQ them from the races that the wing was used. Or they get to keep the points but are DSQ from the WCC. Keeping the points and being able to benefit in WCC is blatantly unfair.

Mostly just throwing spaghetti at my own mental wall and seeing what sticks, but I have Unorganized And Poorly Articulated Thoughts about the fact that Ekko and Jinx are around the same age, lost their guardians and peer groups at the same time and in a deeply traumatic way, etc.; and yet I feel like Ekko's status as a victim of their broken, oppressive, and exploitative social landscape doesn't receive remotely the same acknowledgment or weight as Jinx's.
While I'm sure that that's due in large part to the fact that Ekko has been successful at building a sense of healthy, mutualistic belonging + community with others in a way that Jinx clearly hasn't, it's nonetheless worth noting that [A] he had to build that and learn how to take care of both himself and others when he was still a child, and the maturity he exhibits is a direct and tragic result of his boyhood being cut violently short; and [B] failing to acknowledge him meaningfully as a victim and a kid, just because he seems to have 'turned out okay' or some-such, reads very distinctly to me like an extension of the documented tendency in our own world for people to "adultify" young black boys due to perceiving them as older, less innocent, and more threatening/less in need of protection than their white peers.

two dogs
He closes his eyes and slowly gathers his body. he can count his ribs from the pain without touching them. lying on side makes breathing a little easier. sometimes he saw wounded or sick stray dog huddled in itself and howling. but here is only his interrupted and irregular breaths that break the silence. howling is useless here. if the dogs understood what he said, he'd tell them that no one will help you with this, you'll only make others laugh. anyway, they called him a dog ,too. could this be the end of his life? he told the foreman to inform Yeon he'll back after 15 days, but is it really only 15 days? anything could happen. his body could have rotted in this prison before a week had passed. what is Yeon doing now? what if he dies? all the nights when he sat next her until she woke up, passes through his mind. repetitive thoughts consume him always and he has no choice but to resist. maybe one day he would get tired and stop trying, but for now his destiny is to survive. the river that killed his brother didn't swallow him. maybe he was destined to drown in another river of this life. the sound of feet dragging on the ground pulls him out of his thoughts. it doesn't take much light to recognize him. it's Hwi. he doesn't expect to meet him here, the person who sent Seon-ho here. +I told him that he can't control you. but he said that any dog can be restrained. Hwi looks at him without saying anything, indifferent. +the bruises on your face got better. if there's more light, Seon-ho could definitely tell that Hwi doesn't feel good about this situation. he knew him enough, even with all that had happened, better than anyone else. +how many more lives do you think you have? -what about you? are you scared? Seon-ho laughed, hollowly. he barely moves his body and sits down. -at least we're similar in one thing. +right , two dogs that barking for others. Hwi doesn't laugh, only his serious face became more serious. +have you seen Yeon today? -she's fine. Seon-ho doesn't want to notice Hwi's anger and short hesitation when he said those words. Yeon must have been fine that Hwi could easily stand here. +how about Bang-won? -I was able to win his trust. +sorry, that I can't run because of happiness, here is too small for running. Hwi's eyes subtly subjugates him. +why did you come here?did you come to visit me in that situation? Hwi doesn't say anything. +just go. -I wanted to see if you're still alive or not, I don't trust Namjeon for not hurting Yeon. +don't worry, you're still on deal with him, this process continues without me too. -he can't fight Bang-won alone. at least as you said, he needs you as a dog. +is that so? I thought he wouldn't sleep all night because of worry about his son. Seon-ho understands what Hwi said and he was right. Namjeon needs him right now. but if supporting Seon-ho would hurt his position, he'd never risk to save Seon-ho. +anyway, don't get your hopes up too much. Seon-ho said more quietly than the rest of his words, barely a whisper. +for now, at least for Yeon's safety, don't do anything against his orders more. Hwi nods. -hold your breath when you're being tortured, that way you can endure it better. +I know how to bear the pain. Hwi nodded in approval and once again he carefully looked Seon-ho. like someone who wants to record the last image of someone in his mind. after he left, Seon-ho lays down again.

I know there are as many religious good guys as there are religious bad guys in IDW, but I think I pinned down the reason why it feels like the most prominent religious figures are all bad guys and it's pretty much due to the worldbuilding.
Maybe my memory of the comics is just really bad, but the religious worldbuilding in IDW is....kind of trash honestly. I'm not sure there's a single religion or religious custom that doesn't exist solely to further the plot along. Like, it's one thing for the Camiens to worship the Primes and that causes a lot of stuff in exRID/OP, but what does that worship actually look like? What are their holidays, customs, religious texts? What about "spectralism" which basically the only thing we know about is the Festival of the Lost Light and some hippie color coding and aura shit? Like sure, there are characters who are religious and their beliefs come into play sometimes, but it honestly feels (especially in MTMTE) more like their religiousness only exists when it's relevant to the plot and it's just kinda. Disappointing eh. Lacking in worldbuilding. Plus the more religious a character is the more it's written as their entire personality and the driving force making them evil so it just kinda made me cringe to read honestly.
#squiggposting#i think there might be more 'religious moments' than i remember since it's been a hot minute since i read#but i remember during my first read/while liveblogging it was something that disappointed me#i know it's probably unfair or whatever but it still makes me cringe so hard#that the reason tyrest suddenly became a religious zealot was because he got shot with a brain altering bullet#and his religious fervor is almost literally just a product of him being brain damaged and delusional#like oooooooooooooooooooooooof it's so fucking cringe lol#i'm not sure if i'm making sense honestly. it's not so much the NUMBER of evil vs non evil religious characters#but it's more like. the more prominently religion is part of a character's personality or motivation#the odds of them just being an evil guy shoots up to almost 100%#also then there's dr/ft who's a fucking clown and 'spectralism' is just some half baked hippie shit i can't take seriously#guess my problem isn't with IDW so much as it is with JRO lol#anyways not an objective analysis i might be wrong on some counts that was just my feelings as i read#and also i just don't like it when the worldbuilding around culture only exists when it comes to plot related stuff#it really makes the world feel less lived in/realistic when it's established that there are multiple religions#but then as far as actual customs- beliefs- texts- philosophies- etc there's hardly anything#so the good guys may be religious but there's not much about what their beliefs actually entail and how they impact their daily life#and on the other hand the bad guys are screaming about how they're god's chosen all over the place

i actually love the idea that if Thor was raised with Loki then he grew up learning more and uses the charismatic himbo vibe as a front and if Thor was raised without Loki it's not a persona and he actually is just a charismatic himbo now
#normal Thor is a thot but he's also pretty battle smart and has intuition etc. while Party Thor is just a thot#Party Thor didn't bother with good fighting he didn't need to be book smart or a good heir bc there was only 1 option lmao#didn't wind up with any protectiveness or slight enough maturity not to follow every single impulse without thought and alone#which is just. HILARIOUS.#imagine MCU Thor and Loki wind up in that universe and they're like oh sweet it's a normal world then since Thor's acting normal#but no he's not normal Thor he's not acting at all that's just Thor now#Thor is cringing and devastated#Thor like 1. THIS is what I look like from the outside? D: and 2. ohnorns there's nothing behind it. it's not a coping mechanism. norns no#Loki like ''yeah he's a little forthcoming but look at the bright side Thor! this version of you is CLEARLY more fun.''#*gestures to Party Thor drinking out of like a full jotun sized mug and he starts coughing and choking and it spilled everywhere*#''and also an idiot!''#Thor like this ISN'T funny.#he's got his arms crossed and is all pouty about it#they find out about Jotun Loki and Loki has stars in his eyes like NO WAY I'M SO COOL AND FUN TOO :0#and Thor is there face crumpling further because it feels like this universe hates him specifically#XD#like what so Loki gets to keep his magic and be way taller and fun and Thor is chasing after him in this universe???? unfair :[#Thor vows never going to downplay with Loki again and Loki is there sincerely like Thor I know you're not like that don't worry about it
