If they are not spending much time on your website that means your content is not relevant to the target audience. There will be many reasons behind the high bounce rate, but one of the most common mistake most of the SEO Experts do is the use keywords with high traffic opportunities but are unable to identify whether that keyword is relevant or not. For example the most commonly used keyword is “How To’ which produces the develops the most confusion for the audience since How to is a very diverse keyword and if some was searching for “How to bake a cake” accidently lands on “How to design a logo”, that visitor will obviously not wait and will bounce back and leave the page to search for other options. Levels of Bounce Rates
As discussed above, the bounce rate is calculated as per the number of visitors who only visited one page of your website but this information is not sufficient since sometimes your regular customers are only interested in specific services or content on your web-page which they know you update as per requirements. To analyze further there are three types of Bounce Rates: 1. Hard Bounce Hard Bounce is the number of visitors who had no interest in the content of your website. Maybe they landed by mistake or due to the use of Irrelevant Keywords by the SEO strategist/supervisor. In such case, as soon as a visitor land on your webpage, he jumps back within first 30 seconds. 2. Medium Bounce Medium Bounce are those visitors who have some interest in your content. They visited for a while, maybe for analysis or data collection and left. There is a chance that they will come back. So this is not just a pure bounce back ratio. You never know how many of them will come back to become a successful sale. 3. Soft Bounce Soft Bounce are the visitors who do have interest in your website. They spend a whole lot amount of tie on your web page and will also interact with you website by clicking different button or viewing different pages but they will still left the website. The reasons may vary such as they did not find they relevant information, or prices were too high, or they found your services/offerings similar to someone else and they prefer that option, etc.
How to Avoid and Minimize Bounce Rate
Please read through or make a checklist and resolve the issues mentioned below one by one so that you do not miss out on anything:
1. Improve Your Website’s Layout
Try changing the layout of your website or blog. You can always find templates from which you can relate your designs and see how to they appear. There is a possibility that if you think your website’s layout is good, does not mean that it looks good to everyone else. So share it with your friends and colleague and get the feedback.
2.Optimize it to Mobile Friendly
Don’t forget that the Mobile Technology is now everywhere and with the expansion of Instagram, Twitter and Snapchat the browsing from website has rapidly increased. So your website must be mobile optimized so that your visitors do not find awkward designs on their cell phones.
3. Improve Internal and External Links
You must always include internal and external links effectively on your website and also within your content in your blogs. Links not only help your website but also other’s websites and eventually they generate back-links. (Read About Back-Links).
4. Keep your information/content updated
Always make sure that your data is not outdated or very old. For example if you are running a Tech Website, and the latest post you made was two years ago, visitors will bounce bank as they will consider your content unreliable or very old. Since people share so much stuff on Social media, having old content on your website will also do no good on social media since no one will be sharing the content.
5. Redesign Images
The first thing visitors notice on a website is the images. Images play a vital role in communicating the message in the shortest span of time. Irrelevant pictures or complex art on your website will be of no use and will be considered as Junk. Make sure your images are designed well and can easily communicate your message to the visitors. Another tip would be to design such images which people would like to share. That will generate massive traffic for your website or blog.
6. Avoid Videos on your Websites’ Landing Pages (Exception for Blogs)
This is my personal suggestion. Try to avoid the usage of videos on your website as much as you can. Especially if you are offering services to corporate clients you must not use YouTube videos. The basic reasons include restriction of Video Streaming Websites in office premises. Most of the companies in the world do not allow employees to stream videos online before prior permission. So putting in videos will do no good use as they will only be able to see some blank space. Also if you put in videos there is a chance that the visitors will not be able to listen to it if they are in office, in a meeting or in a class. So putting in images is the best source of information for the visitors.
7. A/B Testing
A/B testing is testing or experimenting with the two variations of your website content and analyzing the best performance and engagement with the visitors. The variations may include complete landing pages, text, call-action, etc. You can get free A/B testing from GuestTheTest.
Conclusion
This is a fact that you cannot directly control the Bounce Rate but with an optimized website and quality content you can absolutely avoid or minimize its effect.
