Im not truly an expert but it was just a feature among other things that fans could buy ig?? Like he wasnt actually selling them it was included in like this bracelet thing so it wasnt like intentionally predatory i guess.

my biggest issue personally with it is the inclusion of them was encouraging parasocialism. Like yeah other celebrities have done it but guess what? Celeb culture is weird too!! Including small things from your childhood can be cute when its not included in this special thing being sold to only some fans. Like i dont like people calling it predatory but it was definitely parasocial and weird

I think it was just a usb w his childhood on it, but I just hope that the baby pic of him is censured bc you never know what kind of ppl you might come across, you know? he needs to be careful there. its not creepy but there was no need to do it, but well , it was his decision I agree with you that stuff is parasocial, and dream will never escape accusations of encouraging his fans to become paranoid and fostering a sense of closeness that wont always be healthy. I think if you show such a personal part of yourself to few fans can lead to weird dynamics( but there will always be a parasocial relationship between fans and cc, its juts that some are bigger than others. dreams fans are famously very parasocial an intense, and more ppl see dream interacting with them (im not saying its 100% wrong for him to do that bc that how you build your base and audience, and many cc do that) but since dream has that reputation, they paint him as the one who makes his fans parasocical and he doesn't know how to control them (wich, for me, is somewhat true 😭) what dream did wans't intentionally predatory like some ppl make it out to be, it's strange? sure, but not as terrible as its made to seem

Okay you’re reasonable so I just want to say thank you and vent a little. I see so many people building Taron up to be this perfect Angel of a human who can never do wrong and is this precious cinnamon roll baby boy the fans need to protect. And it’s like, no??? He’s a grown man in his 30s he doesn’t need hordes of fans to defend him from the actions he’s well aware he’s taking. I just don’t understand celeb worship.

I’m a fan of his and other actors and would I meet them at a convention? Yeah! But it’s because I respect their talent, not because I’m operating under some delusion that these are perfect people. And it seems like for some reason with Taron’s fandom people are really bad about realizing he’s a human with human flaws. He’s not my friend, he’s a total stranger. But so many fans have this weird parasocical relationship with him. It’s just weird to me. I appreciate that your blog isn’t like that and you treat him like the adult he is.

Parasocial is a great word for those interactions. Those comments under his posts never fail to make me cringe. And the discourse around speculation about him being immoral and wrong because what if he comes across it??? The poor baby boy who sure as hell doesn't have thick skin after being in the industry for 10+ years??? There is no elegant version to say "bitch please" but that's what I think every time I see stuff like that floating around. He's an adult man, a big boy, he's OLDER THAN ME, he'll be fine. And it's not like anyone's calling him out to his face, or throwing conspiracy theories at him directly in his IG comments, right? 😅
