Goals
I’m not getting any younger. I’ve put off my writing for a long time, but last year I did manage to recreate a first draft of one of my novels and write what I consider the first third of another. I suppose that's something.
I read a lot about an author platform and decided to start this blog to keep up with my ideas and progress this year.
Right now I really need critique buddies, someone to keep me motivated and accountable. I suck at sticking to a schedule and move from thing to thing very quickly.
I wrote best last year while binging the Weather Channel. I decided since I found a favorite gaming streamer and contradictory to most I work better with background noise, I am going to write Monday through Thursday and any other nights this streamer is on.
My goals this year are to revise that first draft I mentioned and finish the second. I want to submit to a publisher by next year.
I apologize for my thoughts not being as organized as I would like. It's late as I have a nonexistent sleep schedule and I'm starting this on a fleeting motivated whim.
I guess you guys would be curious about what I write? I have a novel series, more of a universe really. My friends know all about my characters and my wife is the most supportive person on the planet. A shame my inner critic gives her the right hook often... metaphorically speaking.
Anyway, I've never failed to keep adding on to this universe and it spans several genres from basic literary, suspense, supernatural/horror, and fantasy. I like to tackle the darker side of life as it's something I've always been drawn to. I also strive for accuracy in things like court proceedings and legitimate feelings for characters. Everything is definetly character driven.
I feel my next post should be a sample of my work, so I will post the first chapter of one of those two drafts I mentioned: Halloway's Asylum. This is the 4th (?) novel in the series and it involves a cop and a serial killer in a futuristic insane asylum. Huge props to my high school AP English teacher for this one. I worked through a lot of hate and anger in this book and it's consistently been the only draft I've been able to fully complete in my few decades of actually writing.
As this is also a journal of sorts, let me just say I just finished Persona 5 (and run a small Youtube Let's Play / Unboxing channel), I'm currently binging Ghost Whisperer on Netflix, and I have been resisting the urge to draw lately in favor of my writing. Did I mention I love to draw/paint my characters as well? I even did a short lived web comic in Paint about ten years ago...
I hope that this blog doesn't turn out to be a huge embarassment as many other attempts at similar motivators have. If you guys want to follow me, encourage me, watch me crash and burn, then click that follow button or leave a comment.
I love hearing from people, by the way. I would love to answer questions about me or my books.
Thanks for taking the time to read my words.
