#journey to the west #jttw #xiyouji #tang sanzang #tripitaka #to be fair it's more of a 'lets people get killed' situation #and definitely far from true in all cases #and it would be pretty hard to have anything for hatred for the guys who murdered your dad & assaulted your mom for well over a decade #or for the monsters who just wanted to eat or assault you #but still #let this monk be fucked upppppp #one of my greatest wishes for a jttw retelling #is that one would tackle the underlying implication that for all tsz's genuine desire to do good and be peaceful #swk does kind of let the monk vicariously experience what life is like when you're powerful and violent enough to get your way #something very fascinating & disturbing in the push and pull between the two #the journey & all the good it led to wouldn't have happened without tsz's determination to see it through & help people along the way #but it wouldn't have succeeded without swk's tricks and violence either
