As per the rules governing mages in Andrastian nations in Thedas, upon joining the Circle of Magi in Kirkwall (not of her own free will), she lost all (supposed) rights of inheritance and only saw her family twice more before they died (excluding her sister, who became a military and political leader and whose cause Rhaella eventually joined, but long after both became adults).

Quick Facts: (a lot of her backstory is covered in the collection anyway)

+ born a mage into the noble Trevelyan family, upon discovering her magic, she was sent to the far away circle in Kirkwall instead of Ostwick's Circle of Magi. Kirkwall's inhumane treatment of mages was well known and she attempted to escape many times. + participated in the Kirkwall rebellion and was in the Gallows when destroyed by the Apostate Mage, Anders. Survived due to the intervention of a dragon, who escaped with her south to the Frostback Mountains.

+ learned her father, supposedly, came from a land beyond Thedas, and was planning to set sail there but then this demon dude tore a hole in the sky, most of her "family" died, except her sister, who instead became this majestic hero charged with saving the world and so she joined her little club to protect her (that's basically the plot of inquisition tbh)

+ She intended once more to set sail for beyond Thedas in 9:44 Dragon after her sister disappeared intent on stopping Solas (an elf and former companion of the Inquisitor who betrayed them), but once she and her sister share a chat before going in separate directions from Skyhold, a dragon appears before her and she instead flies over Thedas towards an unknown destination

Okay, confession, I'm not really a gamer, I basically just play with my cousin's at their place, but I fell in love with dragon age, and have obsessively read through the wikia, I even watched gameplays on youtube, which I usually never do 'cause I find them boring (I may have mostly just watched Cullen romance walkthroughs, and maybe focused on romancing him every time I played with my cousins. He's just really pretty, okay, don't judge me). So anyway, I got plot down, but when it comes to literal game stats, I don't know what I'm doing. I basically smash buttons and try to move the story along. According to my cousin, that's wrong, but tell me again who managed to beat the red lyrium dragon whilst crying because dragons deserve better! According to my cousin it's 'cause she got to us to final battle in the first place, but whatever, I got us to that scene with Cullen on the table.

Standing near a ⠀⠀frozen enemy or a persistent cold spell reduces all ⠀⠀damage one takes) ⠀⠀- Blizzard (summons a freezing blizzard to chill and ⠀⠀damage enemies caught in the area) ⠀⠀- Ice Storm (progressively chills enemies until they ⠀⠀are frozen) ⠀⠀- Winter Winds (Blizzard continues without one ⠀⠀having to sustain it) - can create a magical protective barrier around herself - blood magic ⠀Spells: ⠀⠀- Blood Magic (basically a mode, when activated, ⠀⠀mages sacrifice health instead of mana when ⠀⠀casting spells, allowing more spell casting energy, ⠀⠀but health cannot be recovered via conventional ⠀⠀spells or potions) ⠀⠀- Blood Lust (blood magic consumes less health, ⠀⠀allowing for spells to be cast with great frequency) ⠀⠀- Grave Robber (consumes all residual life force ⠀⠀from nearby enemies corpses to regain health) ⠀⠀- One Foot In (drains small amounts of health from ⠀⠀living enemies as well) ⠀⠀- Sacrifice (sucks the life force from an enemy to ⠀⠀regain health) ⠀⠀- Grim Sacrifice (blood mage gains more health as ⠀⠀the party member loses healthy. If spell causes the ⠀⠀member to fall, blood mage gains extra health) ⠀⠀- Hemorrhage (corrupts the blood of all foes in ⠀⠀targeted area, damages regardless of armour or ⠀⠀damage resistance abilities) ⠀⠀- Paralyzing Hemorrhage (Hemorrhage inflicts more ⠀⠀damage, and immobilizes some enemies)   ⠀⠀- Blood Slave (allows mage to enslave a target and ⠀⠀force it fight alongside the party for a while, once the ⠀⠀spell wears off, the victim dies, unless it's ⠀⠀particularly powerful) ⠀⠀- Blood Splatter (when a blood slave dies, it ⠀⠀explodes in a shower of blood and guts, that does ⠀⠀damage to all nearby enemies)

Non-game/story-type abilities: - impervious to fire - special connection to dragons (as if I'm capable of making a character without some kind of dragon relation) - something akin to Dreamers (mages who do not need Lyrium or blood magic to enter the fade), initially thought she was a dreamer, but the ability actually comes from her father's bloodline. Although not a Dreamer in the way that other Thedosians are, she has similar abilities and can shape the Fade whilst dreaming, as well as affect the dreams of sleeping people, driving them mad or even killing them. Her dreams also allow her to see long forgotten stories, secrets, and histories, often by witnessing spirits re-enacting them, though these are not necessarily true as the dreams could be based on biases of the various spirits in the fade, and some are more metaphorical rather than literal. Rhaella has also noted that she's had conversations with her biological father and others who look like her (ie the silver hair and purple eyes), but she usually cannot remember the conversations when she wakes.
