on the original fiction front, in the past couple of weeks the wise professor character has gone from being a luke skywalker type insert who didn’t have much internality beyond being a legendary swordsman and knowing both judi and varas to just. blooming with characterization he’s not done but now he’s like..........a guy whose stake in changing aod is because he’s aodan but only halfway and his personality makes him less of the kind of pessimist that judi’s become but more of a behind-the-scenes person who like......that’s a good person to have in the plot. and so maybe we hear about him briefly from judi as her sword instructor and we form one idea of him as this swashbuckling type; and then we hear about some professor from varas and maybe put together that it’s the same guy but now he’s ‘the guy who doesn’t ask what varas’ research is or whether he’s even technically a student but who helps him out because he can’t resist a good intellectual challenge’ and form a different idea of him as maybe a bit of a rule avoider but a pretty chill one; and then when we finally meet-meet him he’s the guy who’s kept the movement he and judi were both only minorly involved in ten years ago from completely buckling in the wake of The Event (to be determined but it influenced judi’s decision to emigrate) and he’s been subtly radicalizing all his students for like.........twenty years. good morning class welcome to the term today we’re going to be talking about the philosopher aban. none of you have heard of him? well that’s because none of you are related to him, so please, walk with me on this journey. i’m professor en cydrunas. where’s my matronymic? don’t worry about it.
