So many interesting ideas! I agree that it feels likely (to me at least) that whatever deal Alastor made for his soul, it was either before he died or immediately after. At some point where he felt desperate, felt that he needed to. Or, a moment where he decided he needed more. More power, more strength, the ability to get away with more and more and not get caught. Him making a deal with someone (perhaps Lilith, perhaps Eve, perhaps someone else) makes sense.
Alastor might not have been the sort to think there'd be an afterlife, or perhaps he'd view it as a different sort of hell without free will. So why should he care about how long the deal lasts? He's smart, extremely so, but has some level of superiority complex that could have made the deal seem far more in his favour, that whoever he (might've) sold his soul too wasn't prepared for his wiles. Who knows?
The biggest reason I consider he could have sold his soul is because we don't fully know the nature of his murdering when he was alive. We know that he doesn't chase after demons, doesn't hurt kids, and does try to help, sometimes, when he feels like something unjust is happening (bad meat/lamb comic). We also know that he and Mimzy are/were friends before and after death.
I think it's likely that if he did sell his soul for power, on his end he had to agree to not use it for mindless violence, or against those that have done no wrong. He could have been murdering anyone when he was alive, but it was also during an era where many many forms of bigotry were alive and thriving, and women had few rights. Alastor has better relationships with women than men, with Mimzy being an "actual" friend, while he's more likely to judge other characters. (I'm not sure yet whether this is coincidental or important?)
It's possible that Mimzy knew Alastor killed someone while they were both alive, maybe he even killed for her protection. It's implied she's gone to him many times before with troubles, yet we don't know if that was only in hell.
Regardless, once he moved to hell Alastor wouldn't of just had the power previously bestowed to him, but also his demonic powers too. In hell far more people are ""worthy"" of being hurt, so the previous bounds of the deal would become looser. But he still took out overlords and ancient evils, evils that would have been the most despicable evils there were.
(Even if his deal was post death, it could still work. He died and realized that hell wasnt just burning to death or that post-life isn't nonexistence, but rather a new world with freedom and new targets. He seems to get quite annoyed when people don't acknowledge him as powerful, so what better a deal than gaining more power than most while having an """owner""" who is a firm believer in free will and wants some demons gone anyways?)
All of this makes me wonder if he made a deal with Lilith. Because, in a way, his chaos and morality and eagerness for death could have made him into a weapon. She gives him free reign, he can do as he pleases as long as his kills are justifiable. Evil overlords? She might've wanted them gone but couldn't do it herself without raising suspicion. He struck fear into the hearts of many demons, but if they knew he was more likely to attack if they did something he didn't like, couldn't that make them act better? More behaved?
He owns many souls, possibly thousands that he's inherited from killing old overlords, but do we really see what happens with them? With Husker it seems like he let Husker do whatever until he was "needed". Maybe he does that because Husker is a soul he got from a deal he made directly, or maybe we dont have enough information! I do think that its possi le part of why he is good at deals is because he learnt it, either from watching or from his own deal.
Also, the magic! He uses both red magic and green magic, which I want to watch the show again to see where and the possible whys, but that might be very important. Perhaps green magic is influenced by Lilith, or whoever he sold his soul too. Who knows yet!
Lilith getting him to join in on her plan to fight heaven is super interesting, and there's far too much that matches up for it to be fully coincidental. Him being sent to keep an eye on Charlie, to guide or protect her (as much as he is willing, anyways) makes sense. Perhaps he was also told to keep Lucifer out of it because Lilith doesn't want him involved or alerting heaven in any way, or maybe it's just his superiority leading Alastor to believe he'd be the better devil lol
Theres a lot of things you mention and they're all quite interesting to think about! There's going to be a lot of things happening in the next episodes, that's for sure!
It does make me wonder if Alastor setting up his radio broadcasting again is his way of rebelling. Him being tied to some duties, but finding ways around it for his own gains. Him believing, no matter if its justified, that he can outsmart whoever he sold his soul too.
I do wonder, if he did sell his soul to Lilith and she died, would it go to Charlie or would he be free? Not that I believe Lilith to be dead, but it's still curious indeed
Anyways the summary is that your theory (theories?) are quite interesting and offer many things to think about! I don't know if they'd introduce new big plot important characters in these last few episodes without foreshadowing, but it would be neat to learn about Eve!
It's funny, he's Such A Character that we don't know if any theories apply or if he is just bored and wanted new entertainment. What a guy! <- (I could keep on rambling but I shall stop myself)
My convoluted theory about who owns Alastor’s soul:
Ok so this is bit long so buckle-up.
I think Alastor tried to summon Lilith as a mortal to make a deal with her (I don’t know why, maybe he thought the cops where on him or maybe he thought his mortality was getting in the way or something), but someone else popped up pretending to be Lilith (either Eve or Roo but I’m putting my money on Eve), they made a contract and the person signed it with Lilith’s name making the deal a bit of a fraud. Alastor gets some demon powers and the person wrongfully has Al’s soul. Al dies, works for ‘them’ for a bit, finds out about ‘their’ plan to cause a war to destroy both heaven and hell, realizes the truth, goes to Lilith and tells her everything. Lilith, “The Chain-breaker” isn’t ok with this and teams up with Al to deal with ‘Them’. She technically never gave Alastor her part of the deal so she basically goes: “I’ll give you more power and your soul, in exchange: Help me fight Eve and if something goes wrong protect my daughter.” They confront and fight Eve, Shit goes sideways, Lilith is either trapped or dead and Alastor barely escapes alive using the 7 years to recuperate. When he’s healed up, he goes to protect Charlie.
There are probably some errors with this, but so far it seems pretty good.
Fun little add-ons to the theory:
Eve (Got tired of typing “Them”) might still have Alastor’s soul but I kinda doubt it, cause she would have destroyed it by now. More likely Alastor got his soul back and the powers from Lilith but he was so beat up when he left that Eve just assumed he died.
Maybe the reason Alastor hates Lucifer is because he assumed the worst by how Lilith talked about him and why she didn’t want to include him in the mess. Alastor hearing a woman say: “No! We cannot tell him, he’ll react horribly to it.” Won’t assume it’s because the husband is a softie who’s already depressed.
Eve probably doesn’t pay attention to hell’s going ons and is still hidden somewhere. BUT if someone goes around looking for her, the reason for Al’s disappearance she’ll realize he ain’t dead. Might be the reason he doesn’t want people to be nosy.
Probably kept his promise with protecting Charlie because he liked Lilith (Once on his good side people can ask a lot from him *cough* Mimzy *cough*) and because the hotel could be a good place to hide from Eve.
So…What do you guys think?
