hey y'all are we ready for me to be normal about Nerdy Prudes Must Die? Are we ready?
(oh and before you tell me I'm over analyzing, that's the point. I have no clue if these are all intentional or "reading to much into it," but I enjoy reading into it a LOT so if that's too much for you, you don't have to read this)
Hahaha I tricked you!!! I'm not normal actually
so the opening number, high school is killing me, is one of my top songs in the whole show. It opens with a riff very similar to Richie's "I'm not a loser," his last sung words. This whole thing has an emphasis on last words so get ready for that. Anyway, we hear a nod to his last words and then we see his corpse/ghost, and we know he's dead because he tells us: "I'm dead. The blood is all but draining from my head. The nightmare started there, but now has spread. My pulse is certainly droppin', and my life is hangin' on by a thread." So we're gonna take this line by line!
"the blood is all but draining from my head" interesting line, as neither of the police officers spoke about a head injury (other than drowning.)
"the nightmare started there, but now has spread" partnered with the previous line, this foreshadows Max pretty well. The nightmare started with his death (blood draining, there was a lot more blood in his death than Richie's) before spreading (Max comes back, killing people. (spreading death? Like it started with his death and spreads.))
"My pulse is certainly dropping, and my life is hanging on my a thread." I'm dead/my life is hanging on? Sounds like you were dead but now you aren't quite. That's familiar.
Ruth enters! Overlapping with "thread" her first line is "I'm scared," which very obviously ties in with her anxiety and stage fright, however, it also contrasts with Richie's first line "I'm dead," saying she's not dead yet, but she's scared she will be, letting the audience know that the students are aware and terrified of the killer. It also adds a false sense of security for the Ruth fans.
"someone comes for me, I'm unprepared" someone comes for HER specifically, implying she's a target for a reason. She's unprepared, she didn't expect to be a target.
"the wait has got me sweatin', cant cut through all the tension" this line goes up with no resolution, unlike the other lines thus far, emphasizing the feeling of terrifying wait, the inevitable (heh) end to her life.
*"it's hell on earth you know" any line said by the ensemble has a double meaning. There are a few exceptions but this is a good rule of thumb. Here it's "waiting for the killer to find me is hell/high school is hell," a fun little joke that twists your expectations the first time through.
"I'm tweetin all about it" the first hint to the audience that the song is about to get a lot less dark.
"I take it blow by blow, but I'd never scream or shout it-" blow by blow, death by death, missing person by missing person. The hatchetfield high students have to take it all, because there isn't anything they can do about it. They just gotta keep going. I think screaming and shouting may be a reference to Grace telling everyone to remain quiet about the incident instead of telling the cops it was an accident, but that one is definitely a stretch.
"passing period is over, find your seats" the easy part of life (pre Maxs death) is over, find your place in the world.
ok that was the first chunk of lyrics, how are we feeling? Good? Good! This is the intermission of this wall of text, go drink some water
"high school is killing me, got me all out of rhythm and my melody" the obvious double meaning here, I fuckin hate high school/ someone is literally killing me in this high school. Also fourth wall break, it's a musical!
"it's not cool, it's a fallacy. It's a cruel and unusual brutality" 'not cool' is referencing that only nerds get killed, but it's a fallacy because everyone is a nerd in his eyes. It's a cruel and unusual way of killing, swirlies and wedgies and a fuck ton of puns.
*"and I can survive it for only so long" I just really like this line, the harmonies are so cool. Anyway, I can only survive so long before I drop out/ I can only survive so long before he gets me. A good callback to Ruth's wait and tension.
"High school is killing me" we aren't going to talk about repeat lines like this one unless they're in a new context.
"I'm so fuckin dead" figuratively/literally. This is also a great callback to Richie's first line, faking out so we might reconsider if he's actually dead.
I have literally nothing to say about Stephanie's verse/ dialogue. It moves the plot and establishes her personality.
"There's nowhere to turn, for the class of twenty twenty one" they can't turn to the cops without confessing to manslaughter. Also it was originally 2026 but got changed, but I don't know why.
"got me all out of rhythm and my melody (my melody, my melody)" despite the addition of lines, the melody stays the same. However, you could say the rhythm has changed because there are more beats.
"A cesspool, faux democracy. It's one hell of a normal abnormality" faux democracy is acting like you actually like Max Jägerman. Hell is foreshadowing his destruction, and a normal (Max bullying nerds) abnormality (he's dead and they're dead)
"I'm so fuckin dead" repeated in the background, emphasizing this line more than Richie saying it at the start of the show
ok here's my favourite part to scream about here we go. This is all speculation I don't know if there's any meat to it but I like to think
"8 o'clock bell ring place my head on my desk" eight: Grace, Peter, Steph, Richie, Ruth, Max, Officer Shapiro, and Mr Lauter. The people involved, who know about the ghost.
"12 o'clock Girl Scout, can't I just get my rest?" Our lovely Girl Scout Grace, the one who came up with the plan and the one who got them in to the Waylon place to begin with. And because she got into the Waylon place, Maxs soul cannot be at rest.
*"3 o'clock countdown, everyday lockdown, classroom arrest! Is god the one giving the test?" My school day ended at three o'clock when I was at school, so I found myself counting down until three pretty often. I feel like a lot of people interpret the "countdown" in this line as a three two one, starting with three, but I think it's a five four three. Three numbers, ending with three. Five nerds, three survivors.
"CHEATERS!!" I just wanted to say that Grace is my favourite and I love her thats all :)
"It's got me all out of rhythm and my melody (my melody, my melody)" this time the melody changes! Wow!
"It's not cool it's a tragedy, I've been thrown to the wolves of this community (*howling*)" Max, people don't think you're cool because you kill people. It's a tragedy. Anyway the fact that the students are howling means they ARE the wolves, everyone thinks that everyone else is out to get them, and the closer they are to Jägerman the truer that sentiment is.
"and I'll still despise it, when I am gone" gone as in graduated/ gone as in dead
"Fuck you biology" the biology that lets you feel pain? The biology that mean you will inevitably die?
*"grace just be cool" "never!" Are your beans not cool, Ms Chastity? Also did I mention I love her
"high school will murder me" getting heavier on the darker implications (you better have been thinking about the implications)...
"Yeah!" ...but lightening it up with a classic "everybody pose" ending! This musical definitely won't take any turns towards horror, look at it! Everybody is posing and saying yeah in unison!
If you read this whole thing please please please reblog it and put something in the tags, I'm obsessed with this musical and would be so happy to know someone read my analysis.
oh and any line with an (*) before it just means I really like that line :)

The Spy and the Liar is a Shuake song. Yes, I know I've said it before, but I'm going a lot more in depth here. I've listened to it over and over, and have noticed just how much of the song can relate to Joker and Akechi. I will be explaining my thoughts processes here today.
"From the spotlight
I can see you"
This line works so well, As both the start of the song and their relationship. It's their first meeting, With Joker in the crowd and Akechi up on the stage, and yet Joker still catches his eye.
"Play your cards right
Kill your stage fright
This could be you"
This one might be a bit of a stretch, but this line symbolizes what Joker could have become. He didn't have to help people. He didn't have to become a phantom thief. He had the same powers as Akechi, he could've done the same thing. If he had played his cards right, he could've been up on that stage alongside him.
"If the whole worlds a stage
Let’s set it on fire"
This line I don't really have much for, but I'd love to hear what anyone else has!
"So you be the spy
And I’ll be the liar"
While there is a lot here, I feel it fits a lot better with another line, so I'll save that explanation for then
"From the background
You can hear me"
This is another line I don't have much for.
"Highest billing
Makes a killing
They revere me"
This line helps to represent just what Akechi is doing with with his gift. He's using it for fame, popularity. Something he has over Joker. People know his name, Know who he is. He isn't just some nobody like Joker.
"That beautiful mask you wear
Is all I desire
So you be the spy
And I’ll be the liar"
Here we are. The chorus. Let's start with the first two lines. It helps to represent just what Akechi wants to do. He wants to tear Jokers mask away. He's supposed to be this great detective prince, So why can't he figure out some kid with fake glasses? It infuriates him, He just wants to figure it out. To tear away the mask and see who Joker really is. But in the end, he just can't. Like a spy, Joker seems to always be one step ahead of him. No matter how much Akechi lies, how many masks he wears, Joker seems to see right through him.
"Face to face to face again
And through the camera lens we ascend"
Another line I don't have much for.
"You’re a minor part
I’m the major star
Ha!
The credits arе more than just the end"
This one is a bit obvious. It's a bit more on how Joker is basically nothing compared to him. Jokers but a mere stepping stone in Akechis path, at least in his eyes. As well as he's telling Joker to not call things too early. Like Okumura for example. They thought they were done, the credits rolled... But Akechi got the last laugh.
"‘Causе the truth is
I despise you
I will tear apart
All these works of art
That disguise you"
Here it is. The big reveal. He hates Joker. He wants to tear off their mask. To see who they really are. To destroy the person who has been ahead of them time and time again.
"I’m makin’ the final cut
It’s down to the wire"
Another line I don't have much for. This is the last of those though.
"So you’ll be the spy
And I’ll be the liar
And I’ll be the liar
And I’ll be the liar
And I'll be the liar!"
The final line. The chorus one final time. And the repetition. We've already been over Joker being the spy. But Akechi. He's confessed everything. His hatred. His rage. How he truly feels. And yet, He's still lying. All he really wants is one final game of chess.
There it is! That's everything! This is the first time I've done anything like this, so if it's bad, that's completely understandable! I hope at least one person ends up enjoying my take on this though!

(And now, some Kaminari Soulmate AU Fluff XD... I started this during a Deku Sprint @bnhabookclub )
Why Did It Have to Be Me?: A Denki Kaminari x Female Shy! Reader (Soulmate AU)
Warning: Cursing
(Based off the song of the same name, please listen to it while reading this! :3 )
youtube
"Come on, guys, get a move on!" Mina shouted over her shoulder, Kaminari, Kirishima and Sero all attempting to drag a cursing Bakugou toward a karaoke bar.
"GET THE FUCK OFF ME, NERDS! I'M NOT SINGING!" Bakugou yelled as he attempted to dig his heels into the ground to prevent them from dragging him in. Out of all the stupid ass things they force him to do, why did it have to be a karaoke bar?
"No one's gonna force you to sing, man." Kirishima told him. "We're just gonna have some fun. Besides, you've been really stressed out lately, and Kaminari needs a night out with the gang to forget..."
"All right, all right, no need to bring it up again!" Kaminari interjected before Kirishima could finish. Kaminari had gone through a God awful break up about 6 months before. Despite the fact that his most recent ex had been horrible to him, Kaminari couldn't forget her. Hell, he wouldn't even flirt with any other girl.... The only good thing about the relationship ending? His Soulmate Timer tattoo finally popped up with exactly six months to go, the timer now reading 6 minutes, 29 seconds and counting. He felt a hand on his shoulder, bringing him back out of his thoughts. Turning his head, he saw Jirou.
"No worries, Kaminari, we're gonna have so much fun tonight, you won't have time to think about it." Jirou told him. Kaminari gave a half smile while Mina and the others dragged Bakugou inside, Kaminari entering behind them. Just as Bakugou was about to jump out of his seat to leave, Kirishima put his favorite soda in front of him. Bakugou automatically sat back down, though he had a pout on his face.
"Fine, but if we stay here longer than 30 minutes, I'm out of here." He grumbled. The entire BakuSquad got up on stage, except for Bakugou, and sang until their stomachs hurt from laughing so hard. While Kirishima, Mina and Sero were being goofballs on stage, Kaminari jumped a bit when he saw the time remaining. His gold eyes darted around the room. Less than a minute left on his soulmate timer, where was his soulmate? What did they look like? What were they like? Would they even like him? His mind raced with countless questions until...
"G-Guys, please don't." He heard a female voice and turned his head to see a beautiful pair of e/c eyes wide in fright as they were focused on the same stage Kirishima, Sero and Mina were now exiting.
"Aw, come on, Y/N, have a little fun." Kaminari nearly growled at the friend's tone of voice and the look on their face. Whoever it was, he hated them already. You, on the other hand....
Despite your best efforts to stay off the stage, your friends were stronger, managing to push you on stage. You were trembling with eyes like a deer caught in headlights. Your h/c hair was covering half your face as jazzy music started playing. It was obvious that you were scared, and the fact that your friends were laughing at you only pissed him off. Since he knew the song, Kaminari jumped out of his seat, racing over to the stage to get there before the introductional instrumental ended. You noticed that there were only seconds left on your soulmate timer, jumping a bit when you noticed the blond joining you on stage. Something in that blonde's gold eyes made your panicked breathing start to slow down, bringing you back down from the panic attack that was coming on... He gingerly held your hands in his, his thumb smoothing over the back of your hands.
"It's just you and me right now. Focus on me, okay?" He whispered before he started singing the song to you.
"When you were lonely, you needed a man." He flexed goofily on man, grinning just a bit when he noticed the most adorable blush cross your face. "Someone to lean on, well, I understand.
That's only natural, but why did it have to be me?
Nights can be empty and nights can be cold, so you were looking for someone to hold.
That's only natural, but why did it have to be me?" He sang, dancing with you slightly as he sang.
"I was so lonesome, I was blue.
I couldn't help it, it had to be you and I thought you knew the reason why." His smile got bigger as he notice your growing smile. You were starting to relax. He really got into dancing on stage with you, grinning when a giggle left you.
"I only wanted a little love affair, but now I can see you are beginning to care, but baby...
Believe me...
It's better...
To forget me!" You sang before laughing as Kaminari danced with you to the instrumental, grinning all the while. It was working... The BakuSquad watched Kaminari with shit-eating grins on their faces. Kaminari was forgetting about his ex, and from what it looked like, he had finally found his soulmate... Even better... Kaminari pulled you close to him when the soft melody played, softly smiling down at you. No matter what, he wanted to keep you safe... To always make you smile... He grinned and danced with you as the tempo kicked back up again.
"Falling in love with a woman like you,
happens so quickly, there's nothing to do.
It's only natural, but why did it have to be me?" Kaminari sang to you as he spun you.
"I was so lonesome, I was blue.
I couldn't help it, it had to be you and I
thought you knew the reason why.
I only wanted a little love affair, but
now I can see you are
beginning to care, but baby...
Believe me...
It's better...
To forget me!" You sang back to him, giggling as you two danced on stage, forgetting the world around you. As the song winded down, you laughed as Kaminari dipped you as everyone cheered, the BakuSquad being the loudest. He grinned down at you before noticing that your so called "friends" had ditched you. His gaze softened as he helped you back upright.
"Hey, um... Do you... maybe want to join my friends and I? If you'll allow me to, I wanna get to know you better." Kaminari asked. You blushed and nodded. He got off stage first before helping you down. "I'm Denki, by the way... Denki Kaminari." He introduced himself as he led you to the BakuSquad with an arm around you. You blushed shyly.
"I-I'm Y/N... Y/N L/N." You introduced yourself, blushing darker when he pulled out a chair for you, gently cradling your hand in his as he helped you sit down. Once you were seated, he kissed the back of your hand and sat down next to you. He made the necessary introductions before staying by your side for the rest of the night, getting to know everything about you....
"And that, my adorable little princess, is how I met your goregous mother." Denki finished telling the story to the e/c baby girl in his arms many years later. His infant daughter cooed up at him before nuzzling into his chest. He chuckled as he held her close. "My little spark." He nuzzled his nose with hers, causing her to coo happily and giggle. He chuckled.
"Denki." Denki looked up at the sound of his name to see you, your h/c hair messy with the bedhead he wasn't supposed to see until that morning. "Don't you think it's time she goes to sleep?" You asked him with an eyebrow raised. Denki pouted.
"Not my fault she's Daddy's little girl, she was crying for me, babe." Denki told you before smiling sweetly down at the little girl in his arms. "Yeah, you're Daddy's girl, huh?" He asked her, getting a smile out of her and a squeal. He chuckled.
"Well, she won't be your little girl forever, Denki." You told him. The look that crossed his face in that split second looked like you had just kicked a puppy. He held his daughter protectively close to his heart.
"No." He whined. "Why can't she stay my little princess forever?"
"She has to grow up at some point, Denki. Besides, who'll fight as a hero in your place once you can't anymore?"
"Babe, can't I just enjoy the baby years? She hasn't even got a quirk yet." Denki replied as his little girl started babbling and playing with her little toes in his arms. He grinned down at her and peppered her little face in kisses.
"Fine, but it's still her bedtime." You answered him. Denki grinned at you before shifting his little girl to one arm and holding out his now free arm for you. You obliged, coming close before Denki wrapped his arm around you while holding his daughter. As the two of you sang a lullabye together to send your little girl into the land of sweet dreams, thinking of the little family that you and Denki had made together, neither you had any idea that her quirk had already begun to develop.
And it was quite... Electric.....
(A/N: Btw, there was an Easter Egg in there! Did you catch it? I'll wait while you scroll back up to reread it)
..........
( A/N: Okay, if you scrolled down, you either know what the Easter Egg was or you're just lazy XD. Either way, I'll tell you.... It was the time on Denki's soulmate timer. The time: 6 minutes and 29 seconds, actually points to Kaminari's birthday, June 29th.... I did this one other time in the Soulmate AU one shot I did with Izuku... Can you find it? Anyways, that's it from me for now. See you on the next one shot!)

I'd say "stole the show" by parson james because it was nathan chen's exhibition skate music this year and I'm in love with it (and him lol he's so talented)
hehe. here we go ^-^ (thanks for this prompt btw, i totally got off on it)
—————————————-
They’re standing outside the barriers, only just out of sight of the cameras and the flashing lights.
This is it. The last one.
Viktor always knew it was coming, so itcomes as a surprise that he feels so intimidated. He’s never been onefor stage fright, in any area of life in fact. Even at his mosttender ages, his audiences have commented on his ability to remaincalm and focus. A natural performer.
It isstrange, then, that this tiny part of his life (which really doesn’tmatter half as much as everyone has said it does) should suddenlychange all that. He can feel something fluttering deep in hisstomach, and his palms have started to sweat. It’s uncomfortable, andit puts him off-balance.
Yuuri,on the other hand, is surprised by how calm he feels. There is noreason why he shouldn’t feel calm, of course: he and everybody elseknows he well he and Viktor are going to perform tonight, there’shonestly no way that they can mess this routine up after havingpretty much toured it worldwide.
Theglobal response to their pair exhibition skate of Stammi Vicino hadbeen electric. Not one, not two, but threevideos of it had gone viral online; they had been invited tointerview on several American talk-shows, even booking a spot on anews channel to discuss homosexual pairs skating. It had become theirone-hit wonder in a way, so they had kept on performing it again andagain at various shows they happened to attend.
Theroutine itself had not fundamentally changed, although both of themhad recognised its different variants. That first performance hadbeen shaky and uncertain in spite of its obvious symbolism of theirmutual affection, which made sense, now that Yuuri thought about it.
We were both younger then, we barelyknew each other really.
Fromthen on, every single performance had had a different meaning.Sometimes they would catch it at the right moment, like the time inRussia shortly after the second half of their wedding with Viktor’sfamily, but there had been other, less stable versions. They wouldfight in the morning over something that was or wasn’t important, andwould have to sit the rest of the day out apart from one anotheruntil just before it was their turn to glide out onto the ice, Yuurialways first.
Viktorcan’t help remembering their worst fight. I was a mess formonths after Makkachin died. They’dhad to power on through it, but Yuuri’s endless patience had run out(for one night and one night only) when Viktor had nearly set thekitchen on fire after getting distracted by…what was itagain? It doesn’t matter.
Helooks over at his husband, whose cheeks are already glowing frostypink from the cool breeze blowing off the ice. We had toskate together then too. And I remember…
Somewhere in between a lift and a spin, they had forgiven each other.
Their touch changed from firm toanchored; their laboured breaths became breathless.
To any audience member, Viktor was surethat there would have been no change at all – they had known StammiVicino inside out by then anyway – but ever since then, thatmusic has unfailingly made him cry.
“Hey.” A hand on his arm. Yuuri hasnoticed his husband is chewing his lower lip, and has decided to takeaction. “You okay?”
“You’re asking me?” Viktor repliessoftly, with a half-chuckle. “It’s your last exhibition skate incompetition, are you okay?”
“Viktor.” Yuuri pouts, andpushes himself up against his husband, nuzzling into his neck rightwhere they’ve discovered that they fit best. “Don’t make me out tobe as ancient as you, it’s not fair.”
This time he hears a real laugh huminto his hair, and he leans back for a better look at this face hehas loved for so long. I’ll never get tired of watching you laugh.Never, never.
He’s not blind tothe waver of discomfort still present behind Viktor’s grin; howironic that his last “official” exhibition skate wouldmake his partner more worried than he is. Yuuri has thought of aremedy for this, though, something even more powerful than laughter. He knows Viktor, and he knows the routine, and there issomething he can do.
I’ll surprise you, eh Viktor? You’vealways loved surprises.
They get a quickthumbs-up from a tech supervisor, before the lights start to dim andthe audience’ roar diminuendos to a hushed silence.
Viktor is about totell Yuuri that he really has to go out there now, there’s no pointkeeping anyone waiting any longer, but the star of tonight’s showlooks like he has all of the time in the world. Everyone here iswrapped around his finger, Viktor thinks, and adds includingme when Yuuri’s finger trails up under his chin and beckons himinto a quick, yet surprisingly passionate kiss.
It’s just like thenight they first met. Yuuri saunters off to the opening in the rinkbarrier, Viktor trailing him in a daze. He wonders what on earth thiscrazy, incredible boy is going to do next.
Yuuri does glide out into the middle ofthe ice as usual, and as the rose-coloured spotlights come up theyre-paint his azure jacket in blushing fuchsia, like they always do.But Viktor can tell that something is going to be different.
He gasps when the music comes on andYuuri is in the wrong pose. Instead of the expected arching neck andgraceful hands, he stands proud, weight on one hip and eyesseductively lowered.
Oh… Oh my god.
Viktor watches inastonishment, panic dissipated, as this beautiful man, this geniusthat he is so lucky to have in his life, starts to dance the Erosroutine over the trembling strings of Stammi Vicino. He feelsthe same intense pull in his stomach as when he first watched Yuuridance, years ago now. He remembers mentally choreographing almost theentire routine on the spot; never again has he managed to replicatethat thunderclap of inspiration.
No, only Yuurican do that.
Clearly, Yuuri can’t skate the wholeroutine to the wrong music, but he manages to sneak in the short stepsequence of the introduction, finishing with that infamouschallenging glance to the side of the rink where Yuuri knows Viktoris always (and now, will always be) standing.
Only a few more seconds, and Viktorwill have to skate out there himself and start his part of theroutine.
For now, though, he holds his breath, waiting for what is not, after all, an end. Oh no. This is just thebeginning.

woah dude what a #original ending amirite.
