OH MY GOD thank you so much for that detailed answer!! DAMN i missed out a lot and also i hope mr. elf guy becomes our butler in the future cuz im weak with white/silver-haired men đŤ
ALSO i just saw the illustration for episode 5 and i just know aknk going to hit us with so much angst AGAIN their follow up tweet sounds so ominous LIKE WHY DO YOU GUYS MEAN THE THIRD PART OF EP.5 IS THE TURNING POINT OF THE STORY 𼲠IS SOMEONE GOING TO DIE??????????????? im so nervous and excited at the same time
and also jp fans took note of the white flower/lily(?) held by the elf guy and it means "happiness will come again"
manifesting belen and elf guy to be our butlers soon PLEASE STUDIO WASABI
hiii, and youâre welcome (*â§ââŚ*)!! I hope the answer helped a bit đ!! (readers, there maybe a minor spoiler of chapter 4 below.).
and itâs rather easy to miss out on the story; they donât hold back with the length of the main story or the number of events đ
to be honest Iâd be very surprised if elf guy doesnât become playable. heâs been hyped up for so long in the main story and he also had a special encounter with Aruji too (you know when he was injured and Aruji tried to stop his blood with their handkerchief? and he returned it later, sending it to the devilâs palace. like you know well, the writers were building energy and potential for content later â¨).
I was checking the quote retweets of the follow up post on twitter and (some, not all) japanese fans were talking about how elf guy or Belen would become playable because this would be a turning point in the story and it made me confused; I thought someone was going to die in the story and thatâs what the turning point is đ𤣠i mean weâre still not sure.
Iâm so excited as well for this update \(//â//)\! [plus, thereâs thankfully some time before they drop the chapter 5 update; Iâm busy with school work so Iâll cover that by the time they drop it.]
I genuinely hope that the lilies will be used in a non-angsty context; last chapter was bad enough already. considering mr elf lost his people (as Seraphim and Cherubim took them), maybe the âhappiness will come againâ is being used in that context for him?
If Belen doesnât become our butler by the end of this year, Iâll lose it; Iâve made way too many headcanons and ideas of how he is, his interaction with us/Aruji and the Butlers and how his personality is, for him to up and die đalso, my man spent around almost 3000+ (i donât remember the number) years asleep; they better not be trying to kill him right after he wakes up.
youâre weak to light-haired men, Iâm weak for my dark-haired men â¨đ weâre both heading to our doom together. I hope they become playable together, just like the villa butlers did đ itâs going to be really crazy in the fandom if they do become playable in this chapter :D! since weâll be getting the first part in the end of august, the rest of the parts will drop in september and maybe october, (?) but thereâs going to be gap between the parts (Iâm not sure how long the gap is since I wasnât active during the time chapter 4 was dropped.). so maybe if they will get playable, itâs going to be the end of this year?
if they donât become playable, weâll go for studio wasabiâs knees ⨠also I hope they name elf guy already; my soul feels at unrest, typing elf guy every time I mention him in a serious post đ
anyway, Iâm looking forward to chapter 5! Iâll ramble about each part so let me know your thoughts too whenever you get around to reading the story in the future, anon (*â§ââŚ*)! Have a wonderful day and remember to take it easy with your work!
#solâs asks#i hope we get some time between each part to properly read the story#and I hope itâs not as angsty as the last part đ#by the way whoâs your favourite character anon?#is it miyaji (since he is light-haired)?#also keep me in your prayers; my exam results are coming out tomorrow đ#why do they have to come out right around the main story update time đąđ?

hi Ten! I noticed you don't have fics with Midorima, do you not write for him? if you do, can i please request a fluffy midorima x reader where reader is a 3rd year? thankyou so muchh
Hello, nonnie! Iâm sorry this took long to write. I adore Midorima, so Iâd like to thank you for requesting this.Â
Lucky
Scenario: On a very important match for the semi-finals, Midorimaâs lucky item was none other than you.Â
Pairing: Midorima Shintaro x 3rd year!reader
For the life of him, Midorima Shintaro lamented over Oha Asaâs lucky item for today.
Heâs been asked to bring with him the most peculiar of thingsâan old telescope, an alligatorâs tooth, an idolâs picture book, his fatherâs first toy as a child, you name it. Midorima had religiously kept up with these almost unreasonable demands without fail.
All in the name of being in his best state every day.
Today, however, on the day of his Interhigh semi-finals against Kaijo Highschool, Oha Asa had finally commanded him to do the near impossible.
âI canât believe it,â Takaoâs voice resounded from behind him.
âShut up, Takao,â he muttered in a warning voice.
âI didnât think youâd have it in you to do it!â Takao finally broke into his glee, bumping against the green-haired ace to throw his arm around Midorimaâs shoulders. âYou asked her out! That cute senpai youâve been crushing hard on!â
âI have never said that I like her,â Midorima hissed, shoving Takao off him and dropping by the bench to change into his basketball shoes.Â
âNo,â Takao sang, âbut I watched Oha Asa this morning to check if you needed help with your lucky item.â
Midorima cursed.
âThis is an important day after all,â he finished.
There were rare times when Oha Asaâs lucky item would be a person. It was rare, but he always despised those days. It was simply too troublesome.
âCome on,â Takao called, already dressed in his jersey. Midorima wanted to wipe that smug and teasing grin on his face but decided that that would be a waste of time. He promptly uncoiled the tape around his fingers, before heading out of the locker room.
Takao crossed his hands behind his head. âSenpai-chan is probably waiting for you in the stands already.â
âIf you donât shut your mouth this instance, I swear I am going to lobotomize you, Takao,â Midorima said, feeling the redness crawl up his neck.Â
Takao laughed. âChill out, man. I knew you liked her since day 1. You donât have to be so bashful about it.â
âWho says I am?â
âShin-chan, you look like a literal stop light.â Takao paused in his steps to gesture at Midorimaâs hair, face and clothes. âGreen, red and orange.â
Midorimaâs eyes widened in lividity. âYouââ
âHowâd you even do it?â
Midorima sneered at him and kept walking. âI simply invited her, as a matter of fact.â
âThatâs it??â
âI needed to return her lip balm after all.â
While Takao silently pondered on this, Midorima recalled being in a slightly similar situation before. A game against one of his previous Teiko team mates (Yosen in particular), a much needed lucky item, and the presence of a certain third year upperclassman.
Much to his horror, Midorima thought he had carefully packed his motherâs lip balm before heading out. But alas, he misplaced it. Although his suspicions of his younger sister surreptitiously stealing it from him wasn't far off the radar.
He had been tying his shoelaces, albeit with shaking hands that day when someone had tapped his shoulder.
âWhat?â he had said, caustic tone lacing the word.
The light, uncertain shuffle had made him look up, his eyes meeting a pair of curious ones as you had looked down at him. His jaws had slackened a little. You had looked so radiant even just with that innocent, tiny smile of yours. He had recovered immediately, choosing instead to clear his throat and push his glasses to his face.
âW-what is it?â he had asked.
âI heard from your captain Miyaji-san that you needed something,â you had replied.
Midorima had sworn that he had never heard a voice as lovely as yours.
Before he could ask you to clarify, you had presented him a peach-colored tube. Midorima had stared down at the lip balm in your hand, eyebrows scrunched. It had been taking his all to keep the heat from his face.
Sensing his hesitation, you had taken his wrist and placed the lip balm into his hand. You had grinned at him.
âGood luck on your game today. Iâm sure youâll win for Shutoku today,â you had enthused before giving him a small wave and pivoting around your heel.
Snapping out of reverie, Midorima had hopped onto his feet and called out, âWait. Whatâs your naâhowâwhen will I return this?â
You had turned back around and hummed. âYou can look for me in class 3-E. And don't worry, you can return it any time.â
Midorima swore he tried to return the cosmetic back a day after the game. But somehow, by some twisted plot of the universe, he couldnât catch you in the said classroom. Which then led to this dayâthe perfect excuse of asking her out by pretending that it was for your lip balm.
Midorima wanted to smash his face on the wall.
And he would have if not for his glasses.
The overly familiar voice zapped at him. His body turned to your direction before he could control it. Not a millisecond earlier, you occupied his mind wholly.Â
Beside him, Takao made a low whistle.Â
âGreat heavens,â you panted, âI was looking all over the place for you. I thought youâd be with Miyaji-san.â
Midorima stared at your reddened cheeks, the strands of har glued to your clammy skin, the cherubic smile painting your lips. He didnât notice Takao walking ahead of him as he turned his full profile to you.Â
âSeâsenpai,â he cleared his throat, nervously pushed his glasses up the bridge of his nose, âI apologize for failing to return this to you in time.â
With robotic movements, he fished out the treasured tube out of his pocket.Â
You stared at the lip balm in his hand before smiling. âYou sure you donât need it anymore?â
He shook his head, all the while holding that curious gaze of yours with his own. A breath of fresh air. Thatâs what you remind of him. The atmosphere surrounding him and his team was charged with electricity, what with the upcoming decisive match against Kise and the rest of the Blue Elites.Â
However, Midorima thought that seeing you somehow calmed the turbulent humming of his chest.
You nodded and took the lip balm from his hand, your fingers leaving feathery touches of warmth in his hand.
Midorima ventured on a small smile.
âI have all that I need right here, as a matter of fact,â he answered, meaning every word.
You chuckled and pumped a fist in the air, completely oblivious to the true meaning of his words. âThatâs the spirit. You trained hard for this. Now, go win for us, Ace! Iâll see you there!â
Waving good bye, you started to make your way to the seats to join your friends. Midorima let his gaze linger on your back for a few more moments before swearing on this game today.Â
After his assured victory, he was going to ask you out.
For real.
I read from wiki once that Shin-chan preferred mature women, right? ^^ Hope you enjoyed this!

As the Wind Blows
Title: As the Wind Blows
Anime: Cardfight!! Vanguard V
Words: 4,560
Summary:Â Having lost his bond with Vanguard, the game he so desperately clung to and loved, Kai felt he had been missing something. One exceptional night, however, is about to show him what that something is â and how he can get it back. Third person; spoilers for Cardfight!! Vanguard V Dimension.
Notes: yes hello Iâm still alive sdaklfjlsadfjasljf. You know itâs the summer season when Iâm actually updating this account again with fics again, apparently.
Anyway, I wrote this fic b/c, to put it simply, I was upset with Bushi for not letting Kai have his bond with Vanguard back even though Aichiâs bond was severed and he got his bond back. So I decided to take matters into my own hands and wrote a fic addressing that issue. Itâs my first âfull-lengthâ (over 3000 words) CFV fic in about five years, so Iâm really excited about how it turned out. \ .D. /
The irony is I finished writing this on May 30 after working on it for approximately 3 weeks. And June 1â˛s CFV episode actually showed Kaikun staring at Dragonic Overlord, and I felt like Bushi had sucker punched me in the feels. And if you read this fic, youâll understand exactly why.Â
So yeah, if youâre a CFV fan and you love Kai Toshiki or are interested in my Psyqualia on Cray theory, please read this and let me know what you think! Thank you!! <3

Plant Cray â Kagero, Dragon Empire
He wasnât in the middle of a Vanguard fight, and the fate of the world, as far as he knew, was just fine. Yet the ferocious wind surrounded Kai. Ferocious, yet . . . comforting in a way. Looking around the wasteland that laid before him, he cautiously walked, taking in the gravelly sound of his feet against the ground, the wind furiously enveloping him with the contrast of the calm of the landscape before him.
He remembered this sensation from when he fought Aichi, and his Psyqualia had awakened. He had said he didnât need this power, that he was strong on his own.
Was he dreaming of that time again? Was he that desperate to experience the Vanguard he once enjoyed and . . . and even loved that his own memories are playing tricks on him and showing him this dream? Kai couldnât help but chuckle, thinking how far his mental state had deteriorated since losing to Ibuki.
âHuh. He really thinks itâs a dream, huh?â a voice â that eerily resembled Aichiâs, only slightly higher pitched - sounded. Kai jumped, hastily looking for the origin of the comment but not seeing it. Sleep deprived, going back in time, and hearing voices of people â beings? â who can read his thoughts? Ibukiâs Deletors did more mental damage than he thought â
âIn front of you, Â Kaaaaaaaai-kun,â the voice spoke up again. Kai forced his gaze straight ahead, and he made no attempt to hide his shock from what he saw, probably also due to the sleep deprivation. In front of him was a boy who, head to toe, looked exactly like Aichi, black and red Miyaji uniform and everything. But, there was one difference, Kai figured out. Aichi would never make that mocking expression in front of anyone. Thatâs just not like him. Then again, there was so much Kai didnât know about Aichi. So, he had to be sure.
âYouâre . . . youâre Aichi, arenât you?â the brunet asked, his heart pounding.
The boy cocked his head to the side and shrugged his shoulders. âI might look like him. I might sound like him. But, too bad for you, Iâm not him. Sorry to disappoint.â
The way the Aichi lookalike the other had said âtoo bad for you,â the way he assumed what he wanted irked him. Whatâs that supposed to mean? Sure, he had a close bond with Aichi, but itâs not like he wanted to spend every waking moment with him.
âNever mind that,â Kai said evenly. âIf youâre not Aichi, then who are you and what the heck is going on in this dream?â
Bringing a hand to his forehead, the other replied, âBold of you to assume this is a dream.â He sighed. âWhatever. Instead of giving you all the convenient exposition at once, itâd be easier to just show you who I am.â The Aichi lookalike hopped off one of the rocks he was sitting on and motioned for Kai to follow him, which he did. Itâs not like he had anything else to do. Or could do, for that matter.
As the pair continued onward on their journey, Kai felt beads of sweat trickling down his neck. He hoped wherever they were going, thereâd be water. His companion appeared to adjust to the drastic change in temperature just fine, though. They walked past the fiery landscape, filled with active volcano geysers and smoke billowing from every direction. Oddly enough, the farther they walked, the less dehydrated Kai felt, which confused him. But, considering his companion wasnât in the explanatory mood, he kept that question to himself.
At last, the Aichi lookalike stopped, and the brunet took that to mean that they had in fact arrived at their intended destination. He looked up to see an overpowering black door that was decorated with flames of all colors and emblazoned with what appeared to be a symbol â the Kagero clan symbol, Kai recognized. Â
âYeesh, he asks me to bring you here, and he doesnât leave the door open? The nerveâŚ.â His companion sighed.
âHe?â
âOh, youâll meet him soon enough,â the other replied. âWait here.â
âNot like I can go anywhere else,â replied Kai, to which his companion smirked and floated through the entrance. Kai took a step back in surprise. His companion was a ghost? That couldnât be right, could it? Still, he waited for the Aichi lookalike to return.
Or, maybe not. It wasnât long before the door of flames opened to him, revealing a long, dark tunnel filled with lit torches, and the voice of his companion rang out, âAlright, waitâs up. You can come through.â The brunet stuffed his hands in the pockets of his knee-length black basketball shorts and made his way inside, the torches which were slightly above his head being his only source of light. He heard the door close behind him, so he sighed, realizing there was no going back. After being alone with the sound of the drip, drip, drip of the droplets of water behind the walls and the sound of his breathing for what seemed like an eternity, jagged rocks, lava geysers, and several Vanguard units he recognized â who bowed ever so slightly at his arrival - greeted him.
âAermo. Bahr. Genjo. Raopia,â Kai gasped, as each of the units, when named, lifted their heads slightly.
âHey, donât forget the head cheese of this place,â his companionâs voice sounded. He looked straight ahead, finding a red dragon with yellow and red claw-tipped wings towering over the rest of the units. At the sight, Kai felt a pang in his chest, overcome by a sensation, a feeling heâd been lacking ever since the fight with Ibuki: joy.
âOver . . . lord . . .â
The dragon bellowed and dropped down to a knee in response. Taking a few steps closer, Kai closed the gap between the two and reached out to touch Dragonic Overlord, gently rubbing the top of his head, which was surprisingly smooth. It really was him. It really was his Vanguard, the one who carried him through his tumultuous childhood, along with the rest of Kagero. He had dreams as a child of meeting the units, and, if this really wasnât a dream, this was a dream come true. Â
Kaiâs companion floated next to him. âOverlord normally doesnât let anyone touch him, so consider yourself lucky,â he said, sighing and with his arms crossed.
Overlord growled in annoyance in response, but Kai continued to pet him, and Dragonic Overlord stopped growling at once and made a noise almost like that of an older catâs. Kai couldnât help but laugh at his companionâs remark. That would explain why Dragonic Overlord was his Vanguard. Both of them liked and needed their space.
âBut, yeesh, where is he? I go through all the trouble to call you and heâs not even here?â the Aichi lookalike asked. âWhatâs he doing? Overlord, do you know?â
The dragon grunted in response, and Kai had absolutely no idea what he said, but his companion seemed to and whatever the answer was, it seemed like good news.
âOh, good. Took him long enough.â
Kai couldnât take this mystery any longer. His companion had said he would meet this mysterious âheâ soon enough, but how long is soon enough? And who is âhe?â
âWell, since heâs taking his time in getting here, mind telling me who youâre talking about?â Kai finally asked, making no effort to hide the impatience in his voice. Before his companion could open his mouth to speak, a strong wind filled the area, causing everyone â Kai included â to hold their ground.
âYup, heâs here,â his companion said. Whoever he was had a thing for drama, it seemed. Dragonic Overlord turned to face the backside of the cave they were in, on which had appeared a portal of some kind made of fire. Kai watched as a ball of stars popped out of the portal and took shape, a shape similar to that of a humanâs. First, the legs. The arms. Fingers. Face. Hair. Until, finally, the long-awaited guest had fully-formed.
And he looked just like Kai.
âWhat the heck?â Kai blurted out. His traveling companion howled with laughter while those of the Kagero clan looked on. The Kai lookalike, surveying the commotion, sighed.
âYou didnât tell him,â he spoke, focusing his intense, burning gaze on Kai, who took a small step backward.
His companion shrugged his shoulders. âI thought itâd be easier to just show him rather than bore him with the details,â Kaiâs companion said. âHeâs human, you know.â
The Kai lookalike looked into the brunetâs eyes for a handful of minutes before he floated downwards, feet touching the floor. Kai looked around to see the Kagero units genuflecting, as they had done when he had arrived. Just who was this person? Or being, rather. It seemed that he was the only human in the room.
âWhich leaves me to do the explaining. Very well,â the lookalike sighed. A huff could be heard on the other side of the space. âCome with me, Kai. Dragonic Overlord, you too.â
Kai glanced at his avatar, Dragonic Overlord at his Vanguard, and the two followed him past the wall and into a secluded space, surrounded by white light. Their guide threw his arms backwards. As a result, the room turned dark, revealing only a view of what appeared to be the Planet Cray, the moon, and Earth along with another planet Kai didnât recognize. The three had a thread of blue, purple, white and pink light woven through each, connecting them.
âWhat-What is this?â Kai breathed. Not that he believed fully anything he saw so far, but he couldnât believe his eyes.
âYou witnessed the fight between Aichi and Takuto under the influence of Planet Brandtâs leader, Destiny Conductor,â he mentioned. âso you know of Cray and Earthâs relationship.â
âKinda, yeah,â Kai replied, not sure where his guide was headed with that question.
âAnd, youâre familiar with Psyqualia, yes?â
Kai stood up a little straighter, his shoulders a tad higher.
âThought so,â the lookalike replied. âAll Psyqualia users, when awakened on Earth, have two selves â the earthen self who participate in Vanguard fights on Earth and the pure form Psyqualia self who takes on the appearance of the user and resides in the homeland of the userâs clan on Cray. We were created on what you humans call the moon, but thanks to a mortal error of the Concert Master before this last one, we became an intricate link connecting the three and now Brandt as well.â
âWait, does that mean he . . . ?â Kai started to ask but cut himself off once he realized the answer to his question.
âYes,â the guide answered anyway. âThe one who looks like Sendou Aichi, the one who led you here is Aichiâs pure form Psyqualia. I had him call you and bring you here.â
âIf thatâs the case, then are you ââ Kai started to say.
âIâm your pure form Psyqualia, yes.â
The brunet couldnât help but laugh a little harder than he usually did, with Dragonic Overlord looking on. He had his doubts about any of what heâd experienced being real. That answer just proved them right.
âThat-That canât be right,â he said, breathless from his laughing. âI renounced Psyqualia. I said I didnât need the power. Even if I had that connection, my bond to Vanguard . . .â Kai winced, â. . . to Crayâs been severed. Thereâs no way.â
His lookalike only stared at Kai and crossed his arms. ââI think, therefore I am,â huh? Donât underestimate Psyqualia. Once weâre awakened, we can exist with or without you humans. Our power is not to be underestimated.â
Kai raised an eyebrow. âWhatâs that supposed to mean?â
âTo put it simply, even if you donât use it, even if you choose to not take its power, your Psyqualia form still exists. From the moment the power manifests within you, it comes into being and exists for the lifetime of the wielder,â he explained.
Kai bit the bottom of his lip. He couldnât abandon Psyqualia even if he wanted to. And that would explain why Ren still had his, despite his lack of interest in using it. Â Much like . . . Much like his tie â albeit weak â to Vanguard.
âAnd, yes, the Deletors did quite a number on you, didnât they?â the lookalike nodded. âBut, itâs not all hope is lost.â
Kai gasped. There was a solution to his problem? âWhat do you mean?â
âEven if the bond to Vanguard happens to be damaged or even destroyed, each clan has its own way of restoring that bond. And, if the person who has the damaged or destroyed bond possesses Psyqualia, we Psyqualia can help as well,â came the reply.
Rather than feeling joy at hearing the news, Kai instead became irritated â not at his Psyqualia but with the whole situation.
âWhatâs taking so long then?â Kai interjected. âItâs been months and I still struggle to play Vanguard, enjoy the game like I once did, to imagine myself here. Â Itâs. Itâs embarrassing.â The boy looked downward at the view of Cray, Earth, the Moon, and Brandt.
âI understand your frustration,â said the Psyqualia lifeform. âIâm just as annoyed as you are, believe me. But, sadly, Kagero was one of the clans hit hardest during the war, so the effort is more focused on rebuilding the area. So, it may be a little while longer before your bond is fully restored.â
âThat canât be . . .â Kai muttered, clutching his chest.
Feeling a nudge on the side of his face, he turned to find Dragonic Overlord, having shrunk to the size of a stuffed animal and taken his place on his shoulder.
âOverlord, you can do that?â Kai asked in surprise. The small Overlord grumbled and nodded, nuzzling up to the boy, who, in turn, massaged the top of his head with two of his fingers. The dragon roared happily, but it was clear something was bothering him still, as his eyes narrowed and head moved downward. Kai could only guess that he, as the main unit of the clan, felt responsible for what happened to him.
âYes, itâs not just me whoâs frustrated. Itâs all of your units,â said Kaiâs companion. âEspecially Dragonic Overlord.â
A wave of sadness overwhelmed Kai. His struggle to get back into Vanguard wasnât hurting only him. It was hurting his deck, his trusted companions, the ones who got him through thick and thin, and they were fighting to get him back as much as heâs struggling to return to the game he loved.
âIsnât there anything-anything I can do?â Kai asked, his voice cracking. Â
âThatâs . . .â The expression on Kaiâs Psyqualiaâs face mirrored Kaiâs in response, and the small Dragonic Overlord gave a low grumble, which again sounded much like a cat purring. Kai looked at the miniature form of his avatar and rubbed the top of his head with his pointer finger, which made the dragon content, if only for a short while.
âAs long . . .â Kaiâs Psyqualia said, â . . . as long as you donât abandon Vanguard. As long as you keep playing, that bond will return, stronger than before. Believe in us, the Kagero Clan, and . . . believe in yourself, Kai Toshiki. Believe in your power, your existence.â
A short laugh escaped from Kaiâs lips. âReally? Is that all? Well, if thatâs so simple, then why am I still -â
âIâm sure I can start over.â
Kai jerked his head upward, with Dragonic Overlord holding on. âThose words . . .â
â. . . are what you told Ibuki after your bond was severed,â replied the lookalike. âYouâve already started the healing process. Just keep on that path, and stay with your friends. Theyâll help you.â Kaiâs Psyqualia looked at the floor below them, still showing a view of Earth, Cray, Brandt, and the Moon. Under his breath, he said, âAs a matter of fact, one of them already has,â but Kai heard it.
âWhat do you mean?â Kai interjected, but the other refused to give an answer. Instead, he waved an arm, opening a door behind them. He, his Psyqualia, and Dragonic Overlord walked out and found the rest of Kagero â as well as Aichiâs Psyqualia â expectantly waiting. Aichiâs Psyqualia smirked and made his way next to Kai, wrapping an arm around him. âSo, did that answer your many burning questions? No pun intended.â
Kai returned a smirk in response and closed his eyes. âIt did, for the most part. And I finally get that this isnât a dream, but . . .â
âBut?â
âI still have trouble believing a brat like you is Aichiâs Psyqualia.â
Aichiâs Psyqualia crossed his arms and huffed, which incited snickering on part of the present Kagero units. Even Kaiâs Psyqualia, who had seemed incapable of strong emotions up until that very moment, laughed.
âHeâs a handful, isnât he? Unfortunately, thatâs just how he is,â he said.
âOh, shut it, will ya?â Aichiâs Psyqualia interjected. âIâm a delight, thank you very much ââ
âDelightfully annoying,â Kaiâs Psyqualia dismissed him, which made the other even more irritated, with the Kagero units doubling even more over with laughter. âBut, enough about him. We need to get you back to Earth, Kai.â
At that, Kaiâs face fell. He hadnât felt this disappointed, this hurt to be leaving somewhere, since he was tossed around from relative to relative as a child. It was a strange feeling, to him, but, on Planet Cray, he felt more at home than heâd ever been on Earth, even if he was the only human, even if his time there had been relatively short. Kagero . . . they were a family to him, a family he didnât ever, ever want to lose. But, humans werenât meant to stay on Cray forever, he guessed.
But, as long as he had Vanguard, even with a weak bond, he was still connected to them. At least that was some consolation.
And maybe. Maybe he could find a home on Earth too.
âKai?â his Psyqualia asked as if he had been trying to get his attention for the last couple of seconds. The brunet jumped, having been jolted out of his train of thought, and noticed Overlord had hopped off his shoulder and become his full height once again.
âSorry,â Kai mumbled. âBut, before I go, I want to say something to these guys first.â
âOf course.â
Kai looked up, staring directly at each of the units gathered. He took a deep breath. âI know . . .â he started, âI know Iâve mentioned this before, when Psyqualia manifested for me, but Iâm incredibly grateful for all of you. I donât know how long itâll take for my connection to Vanguard to fully heal, but Iâll do my best to come back to you guys as soon as I can. Iâll pay you back. I promise.â
One of the units who had a human-like red face with blue eyes and fiery red hair but the body and tail of a dragon â whom Kai recognized as Flame of Hope, Aermo â stepped forward, and bowed his head ever so slightly. âNo need to pay us back, my Vanguard,â he said. âYour coming here has already done that and more, so weâll support you as best we can here. Just keep fighting, okay?â
âAermo . . .â Kai looked up to see the other units nodding in unison. He looked back at Dragonic Overlord, who gave a slight nod. Closing his eyes, Kai fought back tears, much to his surprise. He usually wasnât this emotional.
âOkay, timeâs up, we need to get ya outta here,â Aichiâs Psyqualia announced. At that moment, Kai was enveloped in a bright light, filled with purples and pinks and blues. He took one last look at the units â his units â closed his eyes again and smiled, letting the tears escape this time.
âIâll come back, I promise.â
Planet Earth â Kai Toshikiâs Apartment
When Kai woke up, it was still nighttime; the pitch-black, moon-absent darkness gripped his bedroom, and the only light source was the red time on his alarm clock. He groggily turned over to check: 3 A.M. He still had more time to sleep before he had to get up for school. It was a good thing too, as the journey from Cray back to Earth had taken an unexpected physical toll on his body, particularly his chest.
But, when the boy eyed his deck next the clock, without thinking, he reached for and gripped it. His friends from Cray were here, and they were supporting him. They knew how much pain he was going through, having been separated from Vanguard, and they also were suffering just as much as he was. Neither of them had to go through this alone, though. As long as the card game existed, they could reach each other somehow, someway.
Holding the deck closer to him, as a young child would hold a stuffed animal, Kai went back to sleep.
~The Next Day~ Planet Earth - Card Capital
âNot bad, Miwa,â Kai commented, placing a card in the damage zone, having survived an onslaught of attacks somehow and limiting his damage to one.
Miwa let a short laugh escape. âNot so bad yourself! You sure improved over the last 24 hours. But, on my next turn, youâre still done.â
Kai surveyed the board, noting his overwhelming disadvantage. âMaybe so. I draw.â The brunet ripped a card from the top of his deck, and, upon looking at it, smiled.
âFlame of apocalypse that burns away everything in this world! Ride the Vanguard! Dragonic Overlord!â
Kai hadnât noticed, but the rest of the shop as well as Miwa were all staring at him incredulously. Once Kai had placed his unit on the table in the Vanguard circle, though, he sensed all the stares in his direction, including Miwaâs.
âWhat?â he asked in an annoyed tone.
Miwa coughed and replied, âWel-Well, itâs just. You sounded like your old self just now, and it really surprised me.â
âMy old self, huh?â Kai glanced at his Vanguard and smiled. âI guess you could say that.â
Miwa made a âheh?â sound as a response. âSounds like something happened yesterday after our match.â
Would Miwa believe that Kai was teleported to the Planet Cray, met his Psyqualia self and Aichiâs, and some of the Kagero clan? Maybe he would, maybe he wouldnât. But, Kai didnât feel like explaining the whole thing in detail, so he just shrugged his shoulders. Maybe he would tell it to him one day.
âItâs a long story.â
Planet Cray â United Sanctuary, Royal Paladin
Aichiâs Psyqualia floated his way through the pristine white halls of United Sanctuary, filled with statues of dragons and busts of the Royal Paladin greats, including one of the current ruler Monarch Sanctuary Alfred. Heâd been going back and forth between United Sanctuary and Dragon Empire for a while, but he could never get used to how different Kagero and United Sanctuary were in atmosphere. The Dragon Empire definitely fit his aesthetic more in addition to the clan tolerating his jokes just a little more, but itâs not that he wished he belonged to that clan.
After all, he wouldnât trade being that kidâs Psyqualia counterpart for the world. Aichi had guts under that soft exterior, and he liked people who had guts.
âAh, here we are,â he said when he saw the stained glass rotunda and the tall, white thrones. Seated on the main throne in the middle were, of course, Monarch Sanctuary Alfred. Standing to his left was Blaster Blade with King of Knights Alfred sitting to the right. Aichiâs Psyqualia floated his way through the main corridor and towards the three nobles gathered, placing a hand across his chest and genuflecting to acknowledge the three nobles.
âI appreciate the welcome back party,â he said. âI was just expecting the big cheese Alfie and Bladey, so this is a real treat.â
Blaster Blade gave a sigh of what Aichiâs Psyqualia could only guess as irritation â it was the usual reaction from him â and said, âCan you at least be more respectful? Youâre talking to the rulers of not just United Sanctuary but all of Planet Cray.â
He crossed his arms and harrumphed. âYouâre no fun, Bladey.â
âItâs Blaster Blade.â
âEnough,â Monarch Sanctuary Alfred interrupted the two, his booming voice echoing throughout the throne room, sending a chill down Psyqualiaâs non-existent spine. No wonder he didnât talk much, Psyqualia realized. He canât talk in a normal pitch. âPsyqualia, I trust that you completed your task, yes?â
Aichiâs Psyqualia once again genuflected, facing the floor, and smiling. âAichiâs Psyqualia checking in. The Vanguardâs prayer has been received, delivered, Â and answered.â
                     Planet Earth â Card Capital
A high school boy wearing the red and black Miyaji Academy high school uniform walked into the shop and was immediately greeted by the chirping of the card shopâs resident black and white cat who was sitting on the counter, swishing his tail back and forth.
âHello, Sub-Manager,â Aichi greeted the cat, gently patting him, and the cat meowed again and closed his eyes, indicating his approval. Â His time with Sub-Manager was cut short, however, when he heard the grumbling and cheering towards the back of the shop. Turning in the direction of the noise, he saw a crowd of people gathered at one of the tables.
âWhatâs going on back there?â Aichi mumbled to himself. At that moment, a man with a blue apron with a yellow âCCâ, green hair, and thick-rimmed glasses appeared, carrying a box. Noticing Aichi, he said, âAh, welcome, Aichi-kun.â
âShin-san, whatâs going on?â Aichi asked.
âWell, why donât you go on and look for yourself?â was the reply. âYou might find something very interesting.â
âEhhhh,â Aichi replied. That definitely didnât answer his question. Nonetheless, he did as Shin-san suggested and walked over to the table with the crowd of people, but still couldnât see all that well because of his height, so he gently pushed his way through the crowd.
âExcuse me. Pardon me,â Aichi muttered, pushing past one taller person after another until he managed to get to the front. What he saw was more than interesting.
âK-Kai-kun?â Aichi couldnât help but blurt out.
The brunet, who had his back to the boy, turned to face him, his expression changing from wonder to a soft smile. âHi, Aichi.â
âOh, Aichi!â his blond opponent shouted out. âGet this, I think Kaiâs coming back around to Vanguard.â
âMiwa,â Kai hissed. Turning back to Aichi, he said, âI still have a ways to go, but . . .â he smiled, his eyes closed, âitâs easier for me to get through a fight without feeling exhausted, so . . . Itâs a start, right?â
Aichi could feel tears forming in the back of his eyes, and he dug his fingernails into his palms to keep from crying, but a few managed to escape and run down his face. His prayer â that Kai-kunâs bond to Vanguard could start to be healedâ had really been answered. And he couldnât have been happier. Â
âThatâs right, Kai-kun!â

Starryâ
Sky in Summer -Azusa- 7/7
Ah yes, July the seventh, the day of the Tanabata festival. Too bad for some bizarre reason the writers of this star focused franchise decided to go light on the star nerding around one of the biggest star-related festivals in Japan.
Azusa even has Hikoboshiâs hair!
But anyway, back to the storyâŚ
The team practices all the way until nightfall, and by the time Tsukiko, Azusa, Miyaji, and Kanakubo leave the dojo the stars are out. They decide to all go for a walk in the courtyard, all the while discussing how practice went and praising each other. Itâs funny how, for all Azusaâs flirting, heâs still kinda sorta pre-love epiphany here. He talks up and teases Miyaji, his other rival, just as much as he does Tsukiko. I think at this point he likes her, but he doesnât quite like-like her, if you get what I mean.
All that aside, watching Azusa and Miyaji bicker back and forth probably reminds her of Kanata and Yoh, and seeing them get along makes her happy.
They enter the courtyard and Tsukiko is the first to notice the bamboo branch display set up for Tanabata.
âOh yeah. It is Tanabata today, isnât it?â
All four of them had forgotten what day it was, since they were all so busy.
Tsukikoâs disappointed she missed her chance to write a wish, but Azusa points out that the school has left out papers and pens for students to write wishes; she still has time. Kanakubo suggests that they all write something, since they have the opportunity.
When they get closer to the display, he points out there are also Orihime and Hikoboshi decorations on the bamboo. Tsukiko is at first pleased to see them, but then she notices thereâs also been a Milky Way decoration placed between them, and is sad to see they canât even be together on the bamboo celebrating their own day. Azusa posits that maybe theyâre not supposed to be displayed together, since the legend states theyâre only allowed to meet one day of the year, after the two of them failed to do their respective jobs following their marriage to each other.
This happens to be Miyajiâs area of study, and at Tsukikoâs prompting he shares a version of the tale from Finland. In the Finnish version of the story, an elderly couple wishes to be together forever but end up separated when they die and become stars. Still desperately wishing to be together, the couple gathered as many stars as they could and built a bridge. That bridge became the Milky Way.
Once the story is over, Azusa teases Miyaji, saying he never thought heâd hear such a romantic story from him.
Miyaji takes umbrage at this but Kanakubo and Tsukiko quickly play peacekeepers, distracting the two children by pointing out they havenât written wishes yet.
Tsukiko finishes writing her wish and looks over to see Azusa and Kanakubo peering over Miyajiâs shoulder. Miyaji tries to deflect by asking what âKinoseâ wrote but no oneâs having it.
âNo fair, Miyaji-sempai. Youâre trying to get out of showing us yours, arenât you?â
Azusa teasingly says heâll show Miyaji his wish if Miyaji shows him his. Kanakubo sighs and suggests to Tsukiko that the two of them give up on the other two and hang up their wishes.
As they mark down their wishes on the special paper, Tsukiko and Azusa wonder why they put out black paper when hardly anyone ever uses it. Kanakubo guesses that it probably has to do with the five elements in Chinese fortune telling/astrology. I figure this school is super nerdy or maybe itâs a regional thing, because Iâm in a pretty darn traditional area of Japan and nowhere around where I live puts out black paper.
Itâs time to share wishes as they put them up on the bamboo. Tsukikoâs wish is for everyone to win at the Interhigh tournament. Azusa and Miyaji start vying for her to hang her wish up next to their own wishes, prompting Kanakubo to pull a Team Dad on them and declare heâs going to write a second wish asking that everyone can get along.
As theyâre all hanging wishes, Tsukiko looks up at the Hikoboshi decoration and points out that it kind of looks like Azusa.
âHuh? Does itâŚ?â
Kanakubo and Miyaji agree, itâs the hair.
Azusaâs not sure how he feels about this, but if heâs Hikoboshi, then naturally that makes Yahisa-sempai his Orihime, right? :D
Miyaji: (-â-) wat? Why?
Azusa: Just look at the Orihime decoration: itâs cute and pretty just like she is, donât you think?
Tsukiko: Donât be sillyâŚ
Kanakubo: No, heâs right. It is adorable just like you.
Azusaâs smooth but heâs nowhere near Kanakuboâs level.
No one in this franchise is at Kanakuboâs level.
Yoh and Mizushima wish they were at Kanakubo Homareâs level.
But this is not that route.
Azusa is all smiles. Heâs the dashing Hikoboshi and Tsukikoâs the darling Orihime; theyâre the perfect couple, donât you think?
Kanakubo brightly points out that this means Azusa and Tsukiko can only meet one day out of the year. Miyaji smiles too and pointedly agrees. That is the story after all. Tsukiko finds herself enjoying the two older boys turning the tables and teasing Azusa for once. Plus, Azusaâs inability to hide his surprise and disappointment is super cute.
Azusa quickly tries to cover for this oversight. If he really was Hikoboshi, heâd totally cross the Milky Way every day to meet Tsukiko-hime. Doesnât she agree that he could do that?
Tsukiko: uh...sure?
To be fair, he probably would.
Anyway, itâs getting late and they should be heading back to the dorms. Itâs dark and Tsukikoâs a girl person though, someone would walk her home. All three guys offer their services and they canât all three together do it for...otome game reasonsâŚ
Arenât your dorms like, next to each other?
Kanakubo suggests they let Tsukiko decide.
Tsukiko thinks on this. It would be nice if they could all walk back as a group, but part of her also wouldnât mind a walk alone with a certain someone.
Who might that certain someone be?
Azusa-kun
Miyaji-kun
Buchou
Tsukiko: Azusa-kun, do you mind?
Azusa: Not at all!
Itâs funny, normally this is where Iâd jokingly ship the leftover two guys but I donât really see it with Miyaji and Kanakubo. Theyâre both too infatuated with Tsukiko maybe.
The two sempais leave Tsukiko in Azusaâs hands, literally, as he takes Tsukikoâs hand in his, and they head off their separate ways. Holding hands with Azusa is making Tsukikoâs heart flutter, and she hopes she hides it well as she asks what wish he wrote for Tanabata.
âOh, I wished for Orihime and Hikoboshi to find happiness together. Pretty lame, huh?â
He shrugs and says he writes it every year, since thereâs not much he wants anyway. Tsukiko says she can see that, he seems to be having fun in practice lately too, after all.
Azusa looks surprised. That way of looking at it clearly hadnât occurred to him. But he laughs and says yeah, thatâs true. He has enjoyed meeting his first-ever two rivals.
Two? Tsukiko knows Miyaji is one rival, but whoâs the other.
Azusa turns a little more serious and tells her that first time he saw her at the dojo his heart stopped. He doesnât know how to say it, but he definitely saw something special in her. When he said she was his reason for joining the team, he meant it, sheâs most certainly someone he considers a rival. Not only that, but sheâs the first person heâs ever in his life found interesting. He...wants to get to know her better.
Tsukikoâs so surprised she stops and turns to face him, finding herself unable to look away. Azusa goes on to say that he wants to know what she likes, her favorite places and things...her favorite people⌠He wants to hear all about it.
Tsukiko clearly doesnât know what to say to this and he laughs that heâs made her uncomfortable.
But, he adds, he promises in the future heâll become someone she considers to be special to her.
They start walking again and Tsukiko thinks on this. In the end she realizes what he said makes her feel...happy.
