#is it all a calculated act or does the Toymaker have multiple voices - and is there a functional difference for a being of his power?

listen. i understand that it's likely the Toymaker puts on accents because he's a cruel bigot with little concept or regard for human morality, cultural norms, or being a halfway decent person!! ...however:

i found his little 'meine kleine Doctor' moment so interesting, because in that moment it doesn't seem like he is putting on the accent...it seems like his 'typical' posh British accent is the one that's being put on, and as he gets excited it slips away, revealing the pseudo-German underneath 👀 i wonder if this was a conscious choice on the part of Neil Patrick Harris, to make it seem like with each accent-switch we can never quite tell what his 'true' voice is. logic would dictate it's his British one, the one most similar to Michael Gough's, but who's to say one is more 'authentic' Toymaker than the other? i could fully believe that the Toymaker has gotten so caught up in his own playtime and personas that he now slips in and out of these voices without a second thought; they're all just as much a part of his 'real' voice as each other. his American seems to be associated with anger, his British with gameplay, and his French with bliss, whilst his German is reserved for playful glee and teasing...and he is all of these facets, simultaneously, because what is he if not a game himself? 🔥 it's just so interesting...when he speaks in the soft British voice, you can hardly imagine that it's the same guy making ball jokes ten minutes before. his authenticity returns with the British voice in the climax, but i i think that's because they're playing a game. i desperately want to see more of the Toymaker to work out if there's an internal logic to his voices...are they associated with moods, or bound by strict rules themselves? or is he just a mocking asshole? i'd love to hear your thoughts 😉 (god help me as i gear up trying to write his dialogue-)
