It baffles me that a significant part of tvc fandom sees Lestat suffer physical abuse from his father and emotional neglect from his mother as a child that leads to him developing an oedipus complex as not a horrific and sad trauma but….as something haha funny they can make mama’s boy jokes about. Makes me feel sick tbh!

#tvc #also interesting that no one seems interested in making daddys girl jokes about claudia #even though the louis/claudia relationship is depicted pretty similarly what with the kissing and calling claudia his lover #in the books #is it a reluctance to see male children as capable of being sexually exploited by a female parent?#bc even if the physical intimacy started when lestats an adult his desire is a direct result of the trauma sustained frm that childs neglect #and gabi is still his mother and the parent bears the responsibility in that dynamic #but at the end of the day none of this matters cuz gab is just anne rice self insert wish fulfillment #and not a full character worth dissecting #but i feel confident the show will at least give her a modicum of depth and make her into a somewhat interesting character #even if they go full in on the incest which i hope they dont it will at least be a more nuanced portrayal
